Your phone 11 Key (s) Desc ri pti on In Menu mode, scrolls through the screen menu options and Phonebook. In Idle mode, accesses your favourite menu options directly . For further details about shortcuts, see page 11 0. When entering text, m oves the cursor to the left or right, depending on which side you pu sh.
Your phone 12 Ends a call. Also switches the phone on and off when held down. In Menu mode, cancels your input and returns the phone to Idle mode. In Idle mo de, acce sses you r voice mail when held down. Enters numbers, letters, and some special ch arac ters.
Your phone 13 Display Display layout The display has four areas: Area Descriptio n First line Displays various ico ns. See page 14. Second line Shows the current time on a digital clock. Middle lines Displays messages, instruct ions, and any information that you enter , such as the number you are dialling.
Your phone 14 Hard icons These icons appear on the icon area: Icon Description Shows the received signal strength. The greater the number of bars, the stronger the signal. Appears when a call is in progress. Appears when you are out of your service area.
Your phone 15 Soft icons These icons appear on the text and graphic area: Backlight The backlig ht illuminates the display and the keypad. Wh en you press a ny key , the backli ght comes on. It goes off when no keys are pressed withi n a given per iod of t ime, depen ding on the setting in the Back light menu ( Menu 4.
Your phone 16 Service light The service light is a rect angular light around the Navigation keys. It f lashes when services are available on the phone. T o activate or deactivate the servic e light, use the Service light menu ( Menu 4.2.5 ). See page 103 for further details.
17 Getting started Installing the SIM card When you subscribe to a cellular network, you are provided with a plug-in S I M card loaded with y our subscription details, such as your PIN, an y optional services av ailable, and so on.
Getting started 18 3. Slide the SIM card into the SIM ca rd socket, as shown, so that the card locks into position. Make sure that the gold-co loured contacts of the card face into the phone. Note : When you need to remov e the SIM card, slide it, as sh own, and tak e it out of the socket.
Getting started 19 5. Press the battery down until it clicks into place. Make sure that the batter y is properly installed before switching on t he power . Charging the battery Y our phone is powered by a rechargeable Li-ion battery . A trav el adapter comes with y our phone for charging the battery .
Getting started 20 2. Plug the adapter into a standard AC w all outlet. 3. When charging is finished, unplug the adapter from the power outlet and disconnect it from the phone by pressing t he bu ttons o n both sides of the connector and pull ing out the connector .
Getting started 21 Switching on or off the phone 1. Press and hold the key until the phone switches on. 2. If the phone asks you to ente r a password, enter the password and press the Ok soft key or key . The password is preset to “00 000000” at the factory .
Getting started 22 Locking or unlocking the keypad Y ou can lock the keypad to avoid pressing keys by mistake. Press and hold the key in Idle m ode until the icon and "K eypad locked" appear on the wallpaper . Y ou can answer incoming calls using any k eys, even if you l ock t he keypad.
23 Call functions Making a call When the idle scre en displays, enter the area code and phone number , then press the key . Note : When you activ at e the Auto redial option in the Extra settings menu ( Menu 4.7 ), the phone will autom atically red ial up to ten times if the person d oes not answer the c all or is already on the phone.
Call functions 24 Ending a call When you want to end your call , bri efly pre ss the key . Redialling t he last number The phone stores the numbers of the call s you’ve dialled, rece ived, or missed if the call recipient o r caller is identifi ed. See “Call records” on page 91 for further details.
Call functions 25 Making a call from Phonebo ok Y ou can store phone numbers that you use regularly on the SIM card or in the phon e’ s memory . These entries are collectiv ely calle d Phonebo ok. Once you have a stored number in Phonebook, you can dial it by pressing a few k eys.
Call functions 26 Answering a call When somebo dy calls you, the phone rings and displays the incomi ng call image. The caller ’s phone number or name, if stored in Phonebook, displays. 1. Press the key or the Accept soft key to answer th e incomi ng call.
Call functions 27 Viewing misse d calls When you are unable to answ er a call for any reason, you can find out who called you so that y ou can cal l the per son back . The number of calls you hav e missed displays on the idle sc reen immediately after a call is m issed.
Call functions 28 Deleting a miss ed call 1. Press the Options soft key or key . 2. If necessary , press the Up or Down k ey to highlight the Delete option. 3. Press the Select soft k ey or ke y . Y ou can press the key at any time to exit the Missed Call feature.
Call functions 29 Quickly switching to S ilent mode Silent mode is convenient when y ou wish to stop the phone from ringing, in a the atre for example. In Idle mode, press and hold the key until the “Silent mode” message and the Vibr ation icon ( ) display .
30 Selecting functions and options Y our phone offers a set of functions that allow you to customise it. These functions are arranged in menus and sub-menus, accessed using the two soft keys, and . Each menu and sub-menu allows you to view and alter the settings of a particular function.
Selecting functions and options 31 In each main menu, one of the most popu lar sub menus is assigned to the left soft ke y for example, if you select the Sound settings menu, Ring tone is assigne d to the left so ft key . This allows you to quickly access the most popular menus.
Selecting functions and options 32 In some functions, you may be asked for a password or PIN. Enter the co de and press the Ok so ft ke y o r ke y . Note : When you access a list of options, y our phone highlights the currently acti ve option.
33 Phonebook Y ou can store phone numbers and the ir corresponding names in both your SIM card and your phone’s memories . They are physically separate but are used as a single entity , called Phonebook. Note : Depending on y our particular SIM card, the maximum number of phone numbers th e SIM card can store may differ .

Phonebook 37 Caller group : allows you to organise your Phonebook en tries in caller groups so that th e phone alerts you in a specific way when a person from one of your groups ca ll s you. Se lect one of the ten groups av ailable. T o remove an entry from a group , select the No group option.

Phonebook 40 Searching for and dialling a number in Phonebook After storing numbers in Phonebook, you can search for them in two ways; by nam e and by caller group. Searching for a number by name 1. When the idle screen displays, press the Phonebook soft k ey .

46 Entering text When using your phone, you w i ll often need to enter text, such as when storing a name in Phonebook, creating your p ersonal greeting or scheduling events on your calendar . Y ou can enter alphanumeric characters by using your phone’ s keypad.
Entering text 47 Changing the text input mode When you are in a field that allows characters to be entered, you will notice the tex t input mode indicator on the display . Example : Writing a text message Note : Additional text input modes may be av ailable, depending on your country .
Entering text 48 Using T9 mode T9 is a predictive text inp ut mode that allows yo u to key in an y character using single keystrok es. This text input mode is based on a built -in dictiona ry . T o enter a word in T9 m ode: 1. When you are in T9 mode, start entering a word by pressing the 2 to 9 keys.
Entering text 49 T o add a new word into the T9 dictionary: 1. After pressing the k eys corresponding to the word you want to add, press the 0 key o r t he Down key to disp lay the alternative words. 2. When you press the 0 key or the D own key at the last alternative word, the display show s Add on the botto m line.
Entering text 50 Using Alphabet mode Use the 1 to 0 keys to ent er you r t ext . 1. Press the keys labe lled with the letter you w ant: - Once for t he first lette r - T wice for the second letter - And so on 2. Select t he other letters i n the same way .

52 Options during a call Y our phone provides a number of co ntrol functions that you can use during a call. Putting a call on hold Y ou can place the current cal l on hold whenever you want. Y ou can mak e another call while you have a call in progress if your network sup ports this service.
Options during a call 53 When you have an activ e call and a call on hold, you may switch between the two calls, changing the one on hold to active and placing the other on hold.
Options during a c all 54 Switching off the microphone (Mute) Y ou can temporarily switch off your phone’ s microphone so that the other person on the pho ne cannot hear you. Example : Y ou wish to say something to person in the room, but d o not want the person on the phone to hear you.
Options during a call 55 Muting or sendi ng key tones These options allow yo u to turn off or on the key tones. If the Mute keys option is select ed, your phone does no t tran smit the D TMF (Dual T one Multi- Frequency) tones of the keys, which allows you to press keys without hearing annoying key tones during a call.
Options during a c all 56 Searching for a number in Phonebook Y ou can search for a number in Phonebook during a call. 1. Press the Options soft key or key . 2. Press the Down key to highlight the Phonebook option. 3. Press the Ok soft key or key . The Phonebo ok entries are listed.
Options during a call 57 Call waiting Y ou can answer an incoming cal l while you have a call in progress, if your network sup ports this service and you hav e set the Call waiting menu ( Menu 6.3 ) to Activate ; see page 125. Y ou are notified of an in coming call by a call wait ing tone.

T o add a new person to the multi-party call, call the new pers on in the normal w ay and press the Optio ns soft key or key .

60 Using the menus The phone offers a rang e of functions that allow you to tailor it to your needs. These functions are arranged in menus and sub-menus. The menus and sub-menus can be accessed by scroll ing us ing the Navi gation keys or by usi ng the shortcuts.

Messages 68 Creating a simple text message 1. Create your message. Note : For further details about entering characters, see page 46. 2. When you finish entering the m essage, press the Options soft key or key . The foll owing options are av ailable: • Send only : allows you to send the message.

Messages 74 Default type : allows you to set the default message type to Text , Fax , Email , or Paging . The network can convert the messages into the selected format. Messages 75 Multimedia messages (Menu 1.2) This menu allows you to use the Multimedia Message Service. Multimedia Message Service (MMS) is a messaging service very similar to Short Message Service (SMS). It provides automa tic and immediate delivery of personal multimed ia messages from phone to phone or from p hone to e-mail.

Messages 85 Auto down load : you can set whether o r not your phone retrieves new incoming messages from the MMS serve r without notifications. Off : you need to manually download new messages by using the Retrieve option. On : the phone autom atically retrieves n ew messages from the server .
Messages 86 MMS profile (Menu 1.2.7) In this menu, you can configure v arious network settings that are required when you send or receive multimed ia messages. Notes : • The last profile you accessed is a utomatically acti vated for sendi ng subseq uent messag es.
Messages 87 Push messages (Menu 1.3) In this menu, you can receiv e and access web messages from the server . The following options are availab le: Inbox : allows you to read the messages receiv ed from the w eb server . Receive : allows you to set whether or not your phone receives w eb messages.
Messages 88 4. When a confirmation message display s, press the Yes soft key or key to confirm . 5. When the phone asks for confirmation again, press the Yes sof t ke y o r key . Voice mail (Menu 1.5) This menu allow s you to access your voice mail box, if your network supports this service.
Messages 89 Broadcast messages (Menu 1.6) This network service allows you to receive text messages on v arious topics, such as the weather or traffic. Cell Broadcast (CB) messages display as soon as they are received, provided that: • the ph one is in Idle mo de.
Messages 90 Edit : use to change the ID and title of an e xisting channel. Language : allows you to select your preferred language to display cell broadcast me ssages. Please contact your service provid er f or further details. Memory status (Menu 1.7) Y ou can check the amount of memory being used and the amount remaining for messages.
91 Call records In this menu, you can view the: • calls you missed, received, or dialled. • length of your calls. • cost of your calls, if your SIM card supports it. Notes : • Y ou can acce ss the call records of all three ty pes of calls by press i ng the key in Idl e mod e.
Call records 92 Received calls (Menu 2.2) This menu lets you view the 20 most recent calls you rece ived. The number or name, if av ailable, displays together with the time and date the call w as received. By pressing the Options soft k ey or key , you can: • edit the number , if av ailable, and dial it or save it in Phonebook.
Call records 93 Delete all (Menu 2.4) This menu allows you to dele te all of the reco rds in each call record s e parately . You can also delete all of your call reco rds at one time . 2. Press the Delete soft key to delete the marked records. 3. When a confirmation message display s, press the Yes soft key or key to confirm .
Call records 94 Call time (Menu 2.5) This menu le ts you view t he time log for calls made and received. Note : The actual time inv oiced by your servi ce provider may v ary , dependi ng on network features, rounding-off for billing pu rposes, and so on.
Call records 95 Call costs (Menu 2.6) This network feature lets you v i ew the c ost of calls. This menu may not be av ailable depending on your SIM card. The following options are availab le: Last call cost : shows the co st of the las t call you made.
96 Sound settings Y ou can use the Sound Settings feature to customise v arious settings, such as the: • ring melo dy , volum e, and type . • sounds made when you press a key , receive a message, or switch o n or off your phone.
Sound setting s 97 Alert ty pe (Menu 3.3) This menu allows you to specify how y ou are to be informed of incom ing calls. The following options are availab le: Light only : the service light flashes; the phone neither rings nor vibrates. Melody : the phone rings using the selected ring tone or alarm melody .
Sound setti ngs 98 Vibration : the phone vibrates. Single beep : the phone beeps once. SMS tone x : the phone uses one of several SMS tones. SMS-CB tone (Menu 3.5.2) The following options are availab le for alerting you to new cell broadcast (CB) messages: Off : the phone does not use a CB tone.
Sound setting s 99 Repetition (Menu 3.5.4) This menu allows you to specify how often the phone informs you of a new m essage. Y ou can choose either Once or Periodic . Power o n/off (Menu 3.6) This menu allows y ou to select the melody that the phone sounds when it is switched on or off .
Sound setti ngs 100 Extra tones (Menu 3.8) Y ou can customise additional tones for the phone. The following options are availab le: Error tone : sets whether or not the phone informs you when a mistake is made.
101 Phone settings Man y differen t features of you r phone ca n be customised to suit your preferences. All of these features are accessed in the Phone settings menu. Activate infrared (Menu 4.1) This feature a llows you to se nd or receive da ta through the infrared port.
Phone settings 102 Display setti ngs (Menu 4.2) In this menu, you can chang e va rious settings for the display or backlight. Wallpaper (Menu 4.2.1) This menu allows you to change the background image to be display ed in Idle mode.
Phone settings 103 Auto key lock (Menu 4.2.3) This menu allows y ou to set the phone to automatically lock the keys if no k ey is pressed within a given period of time. This f eature is useful to avoid pressing ke ys by mistake. T o use this feature, sel ect the length of time for which the phone waits before it locks the keypad.
Phone settings 104 Graphic log o (Menu 4.2.6 ) This menu allows you to display your service provider’s logo instead of i ts name. Off : the service provider’s name displays in Idle mode. On : the serv ice provider’ s logo stored in y our phone displays in Idle m ode; if no logo h as been stored, the service provider ’s name displays.
Phone settings 105 Language (Menu 4.5) Y ou can select a di splay language. When the language option is set to Automatic , the language is automatically selected according to the language of the SIM card used. Note : Depen ding on your c ountr y , servi ce provi der , or the software version of the phone, the Autom atic option may not display .
Phone settings 106 Change PIN (Menu 4.6.2) This feature allows you to change your current PIN to a new one, provided that the PIN Check feature is enabled.
