5 Section 1: Getting Star ted This section explains how to start using your phone by fi rst configuring your hardware, activating your service, and then setting up your voice mail.
Getting Started 6 4. Carefully slide the SI M card into the SIM ca rd socket until the ca rd locks into plac e. Make sure that the card ’ s gold contacts face into the phone and that the upper-left angled corner of the card is positioned as shown below.
7 3. Reinstall the battery cover by sliding it back onto the phone until you here it secu rely click. Make sure the batter y is properly installed before s witching on the phone. Char ging a Batter y Y our phone is powered by a rechargeable Li-ion batter y .
Getting Started 8 2. Plug the adapter’ s power plug into a standard AC wall outlet. Note: The previous illustration displays the incorre ct method for connecting the charger . If attempted, damage to the accessor y port will occur therefore voiding the phone’ s warranty.
9 Low Ba tter y Indicator When the battery is weak and onl y a fe w minutes of talk time remain; a warning tone sounds and the “Battery lo w” message repeats at regular in tervals on the displa y . In this condition, your phone conserves its remaining battery power , not by turning off the backligh t, but by entering the d imming mode.
Getting Started 10 Accessing Y our V oice Mail Y ou can access your voice mail by either pressing and holding the key on the keypad or by using the phone’ s menu. T o access voice mail using the menu: 1. In Idle mode, press Menu ➔ Messages ➔ Voice m ail and pres s the Call or soft key.

Understanding Y our Phone 12 Open View of Y our Phone The following illustrati ons show the main elem ents of your phone: Ke ys The following list correlates to the illustrations. 1. Earpiece allows you to hear the other caller and the different ring tones or sounds offered by your phone.
13 3. Volum e keys allow you to adju st the Ring volume in standby mode (with the phone open) or adjust the Speaker vol ume during a call. When receiving an incoming call, if you press the volume key , you can mute the ring tone. If you press and hold the vo lume key , you can reject the cal l.
Understanding Y our Phone 14 In Idle mode: • Down key : allows you to dire ctly acce ss your Contact list. • Up key : allows you to directly access the Call records. Tip: When entering text, use the Left or Right Navigation key to mark the position of the cursor .
15 3. External display indicates when you have an in coming call or me ssage. It also displays date, ti me, reception, battery po wer , and an y icons associated with alerts, such as messages, or a set alarm. 4. Camera k ey allows you to t ake pictures when yo u are in camera mode.
Understanding Y our Phone 16 View T ab When you receive new messages, icons di splay in two locations: on the phone’s screen, View T ab, and in the icon bar at the top of the scree n (see “Display Layout” on page 15.
17 Backligh t A backlight il luminates the in te rnal display and the keypad. When you press any key , the backlight comes on. It goes off when no keys are pressed wi thin a give n period of time, de pending on the setting within the Backlight menu. The display turns off after one minute to conserve battery po wer .
Understanding Y our Phone 18 T o specify the length of time the backlight is active, acc ess the Backlight menu: 1. In Idle mode, press Menu ➔ Settings ➔ Display s ettings ➔ Backlight and press the Select soft key or the key . 2. Highlight the Duration and press the Select soft key or th e key .
19 Help Help is designed to work with t-zones to show you some of the uni que features of your pho ne. Y ou can search help files on the f ly while traveling, at home or anywhere, using help.wap.t-mobile.com. 1. In Idle mode, press Menu ➔ Help and press the Select soft key or the key .
Call Functions 20 Section 3: Call Functions This section describes how to make or answer a call. It also explains the fea tures and functionality assoc iated with making or answering a ca ll. For more information on Ringtones see “Ring tone” on page 65.
21 2. Press the Up Navigation key to di splay a list of the most recent numbers used in the order you dialed or received them. 3. Use the Up and Down Navigation keys to scroll through the nu mbers and highlight th e number you want. 4. T o view details of the number , press the key .
Call Functions 22 Answ ering a Call When some body calls you, the phone rings and disp lays the incoming call image. The caller’ s phone numbe r , or name if stored in Phonebook, is then displayed. 1. Press the key or the Acce pt soft key to answe r the incoming call.
23 Missed calls This menu lets you view the 20 most rece nt calls you received, bu t did not answer . The name and number , if already stored in your Phoneboo k, displays with the number of occurrences f or each number .
Call Functions 24 Outgoing calls This menu lets you view the 20 most recent calls y ou dialed. The name and number , if alre ady stored in your Phonebook , displays with the number of occurrences for each number .
25 Vibr ation Mode Vibration Mode is con venient when yo u wish to stop the phone f rom making an y noise, in a thea ter for example. In Idle mode, press and hold the key until the “Vibration Mode On” me ssage and the Vibration Mode icon ( ) displays.
Call Functions 26 Selecting Options T o view the various functions and options avai lable, you must select the one you want by: 1. Press the appropriate soft key . 2. T o select the function displayed or the option highlighted, press the Select soft key or th e key .
27 Putting a Call on Hold Y ou can place the current ca ll on hold whenever you want. Y ou can also make another call while you have a call in progress if your network supports this service. T o place a call on hold: 1. Press the Options soft key , highlight the Hold option, then press the Select soft key o r the key .
Call Functions 28 Muting or Sending Key T ones These options allow you to turn the key tones off o r on. If you set the Vol u m e level to zero, t he keytones a re muted and your phone does not tra nsmit t he DTMF (Dual T one Multi-F requency) tones of t he keys, which then allows you to press keys without hearing annoying key tones during a call.
29 2. T o switch between the two calls, press the Options soft key , highlight Swap and press the Select soft ke y or the key . 3. Press the Options soft key and select the End held call option to end a call on hold. Then press t he Select soft key or th e key .
Call Functions 30 Having a Private Con versation W ith One Par ticipant When you have two participants in a multi-part y session, yo u might be necessar y to place one of t hose participants on hold so that a private conver sation can be held with a si ngle caller .
31 Section 4: Menu Na vigation This section explains the menu navigation for your phone. Menu Naviga tion Y ou can tailor the phone’ s range of functions to your needs using me nus and sub-menus. Menus and s ub-menus can be accessed by sc rolling using the Naviga tion keys or by using the sho rtcuts.
Menu Navigation 32 Using Shor tcuts The menu items, such as menus, sub-men us, and options, are numbere d and can be accessed quickly by using their shortcut numbers. For the main men us, you can access any one of them by pressing the number keys (1 to 0) corresponding to their location on the screen.
33 Section 5: Entering T ext This section outlines how to select th e desired text inpu t mode w hen entering characters into yo ur phone. This section also describes how to use the T9 predictive text system to reduce th e number of key strokes associated with entering text.
Entering T ext 34 1. T o change the text input mode, press the Right soft key ( ) and se lect an Input mode. The following optio ns are available: : T9 mode : ABC mode : Number mode Using T9 Mode T9 is a predictive text input mode th at allows you to key in any character us ing single keystrokes.
35 2. Enter the whole word b efore editing or deleting the k eystrokes. 3. When the word correctly displays, go to step 4. If the word doesn’t displ ay correctly , press the key to di splay alternative wo rd choices for the key s that you have pressed.
Entering T ext 36 Using ABC Mode Press the 2 to 9 keys to enter te xt in ABC mode. 1. Press the key labeled with the letter you want: • Once for t he first letter • T wice for the second lett er • And so on 2. Select the othe r letters in the same way .
37 5. T o insert the symbol(s) into your mess a ge, press the OK soft key or the key . Ke y s By default, the first lett er of an entry is capitalize d.

41 Finding a Phonebook Entr y Y ou can store phone numbers and their corresponding names onto either your SIM card or phone’ s built-in memory. They are physically separate but are used as a single entity , called Pho nebook.

Y ou can also add an email add ress and notes. • Send message : allows you to send a message to the select ed number . Y ou ma y choose between T ext message, Send pict ure, Audio postcard , or Voice note.
43 •I c o n s : displays a list of pre-defined icons. • Remove Picture ID : allows yo u to remove the se lected Pic utre ID (available on ly if you set P icture ID ). 7. T o change the ringtone associated with the Ca ller group, press the Down key to highlight the Ringtone icon.

45 2. Highlight Delete all and press the Select soft key or the key . 3. Press the key to place a check mark ne xt to All , Phone , SIM card or SIM card(FD N) and press the Delete soft key . 4. Press the Ye s soft key at the Delete prompt. 5. Enter a password at th e prompt and press the OK soft key or press the Back soft key to cancel.
Understanding Y our Phonebook 46 Management The Manage ment menu allo ws you to select where yo ur contacts are sa ved, copy yo ur SIM contacts to your phone and phone contacts to your SIM card, sort by contacts, delete your contacts, or check your memory stat us.
47 Memor y Status Y ou can check how many names and numbe rs are stored in the Phoneboo k, within both SI M card and the ph one memory. Y ou can also see the current storage ca pacity of both memories. 1. In Idle mode, press Menu ➔ Phonebook ➔ Management and press the Select soft key o r the key .
Messages 48 Section 7: Messages This section describe s how to send or receiv e different types of m e ssages. It also ex plains the features and functional ity associated with me ssaging.
49 View T ab The View T ab is an area that display s on the screen w hen a missed call, new message, or v oicemail is sent to the phone. There are three View tabs that display icons: Y ou can search t.
Messages 50 The Message icon ( ) displays when you have received a new text messa ge. Whe n the memo ry is full, the message icon flashes on your phon e and you cannot receive any new messa ges. Y o u must delete a me ssage before you can receiv e additi onal messages.
51 •E x i t c o m p o s e r : displays the following o ptions: – Save message – Don’t save – Continue writing 5. Press the Send T o key . 6. Highlight on e of the following send options: • Recent recipients : allows you to select a numb er or an ad dress from the l ast 20 destinat ions you enter ed.
Messages 52 Using the Picture Messaging feature, your phone can receiv e and send messages that co ntain multimedia files, such as photos, sounds and images that you downloaded from the Internet and voice notes you recorded. This function is available only if it is supported by your service provider .
53 10. Press the Add soft key to add your audio message , sound or voice list to the message. 11. T o add a text message, highlight Message and press the key . 12. Enter your message and press the key . 13. T o change the Subject or Message, select a category and press the key .
Messages 54 Audio P ostcar ds The Audio menu allows you to send an Audio postcard to a recipient. 1. In Idle mode, press Menu ➔ Mess ages ➔ Create new ➔ Audio postcard and press the Select sof t key or the key . 2. Center a subject in the frame and press the Camera soft key to take a photo for th e postcard.
55 4. Press the Stop soft key when you are finished. Or , when the re cording time expires, th e display switches to the next screen. 5. Press the Options soft key for the following options: • Send to : allows you to send the Voice note. •P l a y : plays bac k your Voice note.
Messages 56 Inbo x The Inbox stores messages that you have received. Y ou can tell what kind of mess age it is by the ico n displayed. If the open envelope ic on displays then the messag e was read, otherwise the closed envelope icon disp lays.
57 • Move to phone/SIM card : allows you to move the messa ge from the SIM card into t he phone’s memory . Th is option i s only availa ble for messa ges stored in the SIM card. Depends on where the current message was saved. •S o r t b y : allows you to sort messag es by Read/Unr ead, Date, Na me, T y pe, Size, or Subject.
Messages 58 •L o c k : allows you to pro t ect the message from being deleted. •P r o p e r t i e s : shows you information about the message, such as da te and time the message was received, From, T o, Cc, message s ize, and priori ty . Listening to a V oice Note from the Inbo x 1.
59 Vie wing a Pi ctur e Messa ge When You Receive It When a new picture message come s in, the display shows the Pi cture Messaging Message icon. 1. Press the Vie w soft key to view t he message. Press the Exit soft key if you want to view the message later in the In box.
Messages 60 Outbo x This message box stores messages that you atte mpted to send but have not actually sent. When you en ter this menu, the list of messages in the box displays with the recipients’ phon e numbers or names, if availa ble in your P honebook.
61 6. After selecting a re cipient, press the Send soft key. The template message sends to the select recipient(s). V oice Mail This menu provides you with a way of accessing your voice mailbox, if pro v ided by your network. 1. In Idle mode, press Menu ➔ Messages ➔ V oice mail and press the Sel ect soft key or the key .
Messages 62 • Reply path : allows the recipient of your message to send yo u a repl y message using your message center , if your network supports this service. • Delivery report : allows you to activate or deactivate the report function. The netwo r k informs you whether or not your message was delivered when this function is activated.
63 4. Press the Delete soft key to delete the m arked obje cts. 5. After you receive the Delete all unlocked messages? confirmation, press the Ye s soft key or press the No soft key . Memor y status Y ou can check the amount of the memory being used and the memory remaining for picture messages.
Messages 64 Note: The information required for sign on varies depending on the Instant Messaging provider you use. 5. With all of the appropriate fi elds filled i n, press the Sign in soft key or the key .
65 Section 8: Changing Y our Settings This section explains the sou nd and phone settings for your phone. It inc ludes such sett ings as: display , security , memory , and an y extra settings associated with your phone. Sound Settings Y ou can customize va rious sound settings.
Changing Y our Settings 66 Aler t type This menu allows you to specify how you are to be inform ed of incoming calls. Use the Right or Left key to select a Alert type. The following opt ions are availabl e: – Melody : the phone rings u sing the ring melody selecte d in the Ringtone menu.
67 Extra tones Y ou can customize addition al tones for the phone. 1. T o turn a given tone on, press the key . A chec k mark displays in front of the option. Press the Save soft key to save the setting. 2. T o turn a given tone off, press the key . The check ma rk no longer displays in front of the option.
Changing Y our Settings 68 Home Scre en In this menu, you c an choose to disp lay the calendar on th e Main Screen, or set the screen to None to leave the screen blank. Info display This menu allows you to se t text st yle (Outline, Sha dow , or Normal) and text color (White, Y ellow, Blue, Green, R ed, or Black).
69 T o change the background color: 1. Highlight the Background color option and press the Select soft key or the key . 2. Use the Left or Right key to select between 19 different colors or None. 3. Press the Save soft key or the key to save your change.

Changing Y our Settings 72 HA C Mode Enabling HAC (Hearing Ai d Compatib ility) Mode adjusts the volume for HAC comp lian t devices used with this handset. Important!: Enabling the HAC mode can affect the quality of the phone (voice) conversation. 1. T o turn a feature on, highlight HAC mode and press the Select soft ke y or the key .
73 2. Press the key to place a check mark on the selected item and lock the cont ents. • T o lock all of the co ntents , select A ll application. 3. Press the key to remove the check mark. Change password The Change password feature allows you to change your current p h one password to a new one.
Changing Y our Settings 74 Set FDN mode FDN (Fixed Dial Number) mode, if supported by y our SIM card , allows you to re strict your outgoing ca lls to a limited set of phone numbers. The following opt ions are availabl e: • Disable : you can call any number .
75 4. Enter the 4- to 8-digit password and press the OK soft key or the key . Y ou receive a reset confirmation message. T o c hange the password, see “Change password” on page 73. Restore factor y settings From this menu y ou can reset your phone and sound settings to the factory default settings.
Changing Y our Settings 76 Memor y Status Y ou can check the am ount of the memor y being used and the memor y remaini ng for Shared memory , IM, Messages, Files , Games, Organizer , and Phonebook. The display shows the total space inc luding the used and free space.
77 Feat ur es Actually, the Bluetooth specification is a protoc ol that describes how the short-range wi reless technology works, whereas individual p rofiles describe the services support ed by individual devices. Profiles reduce the chance tha t different devices will not work togethe r .

Note: Y ou can select a network other than your home network only if there is a valid roaming agreement between the two.
81 Sync now Once you establish the information you want to synchroniz e, this feat ure allows you to sy nchronize with the T - Mobile network. 1. In Idle mode, press Menu ➔ Settings ➔ Synchronization and press the Select soft key o r the key . 2. Highlight Sync now and press the Select soft key or the key .

Fun & Apps 84 Sounds Highlight an item in the Sounds menu and press the Options soft key . The follo wing options are availa ble: • Download new : opens your web browser where you can download new sounds . • Send via : allows you to send the sound file via a Picture mes sa ge.

89 Alarm This feature allows you to: • Set up to 3 alarms to ring at specified times. • Set the phone to switch on automatically and ring the alarm even if the phone is switched off, set to vibrate, or mute. The following opti ons are availabl e: – Alarm1 : set the day , time, and tone for this alarm.
Fun & Apps 90 9. T o stop the alarm when it rings, pres s any key or press the Snooze soft key . Note: The Snooze alarm rings every five minutes until it is turned off. 10. Press the key to return to Idle mode. Note: Y our phone is preset to a 12-hour format.

95 Notes Optio ns While accessing any Notes entry , press the Options soft key to use the options for the entry . The following opti ons are availabl e: • Edit : allows you to edit the notes. • Create new note : creates a note. • Send via : attaches the note to a T ext or Picture message.

99 4. Enter the quantity yo u want converted. Note: T o include a decimal point, press the key . 5. Use the Navigati on keys to select the From and To units of measure for the qua ntity you want co nverted. 6. Press the Back soft key to return to the Unit conversion menu.
Camera 100 Section 10: Camera This section explains how to use the camera on your ph one. Y ou can take photographs by using the built-in camera functio nality . Using the Camera Using the camera m odule in your phon e, you can take photos of peopl e or events whil e on the move.
