5 Section 1: Getting Star ted This section explains how to st art using your phone by first configuring your hard ware, activating your service, and then setting up your Voicemail. Setting Up Y our Phone Prior to use it is necessary to insta ll both the battery and SIM int o their corresponding inte rnal compartments.
Getting Started 6 䊳 Carefully slide t he SIM card in to the SIM card socket (as shown) until the card locks into place. • Make sure that the c ard’ s gold contacts face downward and that the upper-left angled co rner of th e card is posi tioned as shown.
7 Installing the Bac k Co ver 1. Place the battery cover onto the back of the phone (1) and press down (2). 2. Press all along the edge of th e back cover until you have a secure seal. Note: Make sure the battery is properly installed before s witching on the phone.
Getting Started 8 1. Push the mic roSD card into the s lot until it c licks (as shown). • Make sure the microSD’ s gold cont act pins face downw ard and the card is securely in serted. 2. T o remove, push on the memory card until it clicks and is released.
9 1. Plug the flat end of the T ra vel Charger into the Power/ Accessor y Interface connector an d the other end into a standard AC wall outlet . 2. When charging is finished, remove the flat end from the interface connector jack on the phone . Warning!: Please note that a touch screen responds best to a light touch from the pad of your finger .

11 Resetting y our Google Account Pass word A Google account password is required for Google applications. If you misplace or forget your Go ogle Account password, follow these instructions to reset it: 1. From your computer , use an In ternet browser to navigate to http://google.

17 Indicat or Icons This list identifies th e symb ols you’ll see on your phone’ s display and Indicator area: Displays your curre nt signal strength. The greater the number of bars, the stronger the signal. Indicates that th e Airplane Mode is active.

Displays when your conne ction to a UTMS, HSDP A, HSP A, or HSP A+ network is active. Displays when your phone is communicating with the UTMS, HSDP A, HSP A, or HSPA+ network.

21 A T&T Ready2Go : A T&T Ready2Go allows yo u to quickly and easily setup your pho ne by using the web browser on your PC. Y ou can set-up email acco unts, import contacts, set wallpaper , configure Wi-Fi a nd many more fea tures. For more informatio n, refer to “Setting up your Phone with Ready2Go” on page 10.
Understanding Y our Phone 22 Featured Apps : The Featured Apps application allows you to see the l atest featured applications available o n the Android Market. For more information, refe r to “F eatured Apps” on page 146. Gallery : The Gallery is where yo u view photos and play back videos.
23 Maps : Depending on your locati on, you can view basic, custom, and sate llite maps and local business information, including location s, contact information, and driving directions. Y ou can al so post public messages about a locat ion and track your friends.

25 Ta l k : Google T alk is a free Wind ows and web-based application for instant mess aging offered by Google. Conversation lo gs are automatic ally saved to a Chats area in your Gmail account . This allows you to search a chat log and store them i n your Gmail accounts.

35 T o add a Ho me screen, follo w these steps: 1. Press to activate the Home screen. 2. Press and tap Edit . 3. T ouch and hold the Home screen that contains and drag it to the new lo cation. Note: The icon will only be displayed if a Home screen has previously been deleted.

Y ou must mount (install) the S D card prio r to use. Mounting the SD card establishes a USB connecti on with your computer .
Call Functions 38 Section 3: Call Functions This section describes how to make or answer a c all. It also includes the features and functional ity associated with ma king or answering a call . For more informat ion, refer to “Call Settings” on page 102.

Call Functions 40 Making a Call from the Address Book Y ou can store phone numbers that you use regularly on the SIM card or in the phone’s memor y . These entries are co llectively called th e Address Book . For further details about the Address Book feature, see “Finding an Address Book Entry” on page 58.
41 Dialing Options From the Home screen and Appl ication menus, you have the option to access the Dialer and init iate a call by t apping ➔ Keypad . From the main Contacts page or from the Di aler , the following tabs a re located at the top of your screen: • Keypad : dials the current number entered using the on-s creen keypad.

Call Functions 44 Adding a Call to the R eject List 1. From the Home screen, tap ➔ Logs . A list of recent ca lls is displayed . 2. T ouch and hold the call yo u want to add to the Rej ect List. 3. Ta p Add to reject list . Future calls from this number wi ll be rejected and sent to your voicemai l.
45 • Speaker : routes the phone’ s audio through either the speaker or through the earpiece. – Ta p Speaker to route the audio through the speaker . (Y ou can adjust the speaker volum e using the volume keys.) A gr een line will appear under the Speaker button.
Call Functions 46 1. Ta p Swap . The current call (calle r #2) is placed on hold and the previous call on hold (caller #1) i s then reactivate d so that you can continue co nversing with that person. The active call will appear in a green box. 2. T a p to end the currently active call.

49 Section 4: Entering T ext This section describes how to select the desired text input method when entering characters into your phone. Th is section also describes the pred ictive text entry syst em that reduces the amount of key strokes associ ated with entering tex t.
Entering T ext 50 Changing the T ext Input Mode - K eypad There are two main keypad la yout keys that will change t he on- screen keys within the QWERTY ke ypad. The available T ext Input modes are: Sym and Abc . Note: When in Abc mode, the Sym button will appear .
51 Using Symbol/Numeric Mode Use Symbol/Numeric Mode to add numbers, symbols, or emoticons. 1. Rotate your phone counterclockwise to a Landscape orientation. 2. Ta p at the bottom of the scre en. The follow ing screen displays: 3. T ap the desired number , symbol, or emoticon char acters.

If you want to add a phone number that is not a mob ile number , tap the Mobile button and select from Mobile, Home, Wo rk, Work fax, Home Fax, Pager , Other , Custom (add yo ur own label), or Callback.

Media Hub Samsung Media Hub is your one st op for the hott est movie and TV content.

Music With the Music application, while online, you can play music that you have added to yo ur music file as we ll as an y music you copied from you r PC.
71 Qik Lite Qik Lite is a mobile vide o shari ng ser vice that lets you record and share experiences with your friends, family , and your favorite social networks. Y our video is automatic ally saved as you record. Y ou can also use Qik Lite to Video Chat with your friends.
Multimedia 72 Videos The Videos applic ation play s video files stored on your microSD card. 1. Ta p ➔ Vid eo s . 2. All videos that y ou have on your memory card will be displayed. T ap th e video that you want to play . 3. The video will begin to play .

Note: If your device displays that the memory is full when you access Gallery, delete some of the files by using My Files or other file management applications and try a gain. Multimedia 74 Camera This section explains ho w to use the camera on your phone. Y ou can take photographs and shoot video by using th e built-in camera functi onality . Y our 5 Megapixel ca mera produces photos in JPEG format. Import ant!: Do not take photos of people without their permission.

While viewing a picture, double-ta p the screen to zoom in or out. – or – Pinch the scre en inwards to zo om out or pinch it outwards to zoom in. 9. Press to return to the view finder . Camera Options Options are represented by icons across both sides of the screen.
Multimedia 76 Settings (continued): • Single shot : takes a single photo and view it before returning to the shooting mode. • Smile shot : the camera focuses on the face of your subject. Once the camera de tects the person’ s smile, it takes the picture.
77 Settings (continued): White balance : allows you to set this optio n to one of the following choices: Aut o, Daylight, Cloudy , Incandesc ent, or Fluorescent. ISO : ISO determines how sensitive the light meter is on your digital camera. Choose from Auto, 100, 200, or 400.
Multimedia 78 Pictur e Ima ge Viewer Opt ions After you take a photo, you can access various options from the Image Viewer . Available op tions are: • Share : offers several ways to sh are your picture or video. Options are: AllShare, Bluetooth, Email, F acebook, Gmail, Google+, Messaging, Picasa, Social Hub, and Wi-F i.
79 • Create folder : create a new sub-folder in the current folder . Can be on either the Phone or Memory Card. • Delete : allows you to delete selected pictures. T ap the checkmark, to turn it green, next to any file or folder you want to delete, then tap Delete.
Multimedia 80 Using the Camcorder In addition to taki ng photos, the camera also doubles as a camcorder that also allows you to record, view, and send videos. Note: The camera may not be able to properly record videos to a memory card with a slow transfer speed.
81 Flash : allows you to set the flash options to O ff or On. When you set the flash to On, it st ays on continually whil e you are taking a video. Settings: Edit shortcuts : allows you to set shortcut icons for the settings that you use the most. Flash : allows you to set the flash options to O ff or On.

Options are: AllShare, Bluetooth, Email, Fa cebook, Gmail, Messaging, Wi-Fi, and Y ouT ube.

Messaging 84 Section 7: Messaging This section describes how to send and receive different types of messages. It also includes the features and function ality associated with messaging.
85 Note: For the Group option, if the number of recipients is less than 10, all members in the group will be added. Y ou will need to delete any unnecessary members in the list by selecting the trash can icon and deleting unwanted entries.
Messaging 86 • Add slide : allows you to add a new page to a messag e. • Delete message(s) : allows you to a delete a message. This option only appears i f you have one or more me ssages i n your i nbox.

Messaging 90 Synchronizin g a Corpor ate Em ail Account Use the following procedure to configure your phone to synchronize wit h a corporate email ac count. 1. From the Home screen, tap Email . Y our accounts screen displays with an Email setup screen displayed.
