Your phone 12 Ends a call. When pressed and held, switches the phone on or off . In Menu Mode, cancells your input and returns to Idle Mode. When pres sed and held in Id le Mode, quickly accesse s your voic e mail server . Enter numbers, letters and some special char acters.
Your phone 13 Display Display layout The display has three areas: (on the right s ide of the phone) When pre ssed a nd held , turn s the camer a capture mode on. In capture mode, works as a camera shutter . Area Description First line Displays v arious icons.
Your phone 14 Icons Icon Description Shows the received signal strength. The more the number of bars, the stronger the signal. Appears when a call is in progress. Appears when you are out of a service area. When it displays, you cannot make or receive calls.
Your phone 15 Appears when you are connected to the GPRS network. Appears when your S IM card supports the Call diverting status indica tion and the Call dive rting feature is acti vated. Wh en your SIM card supports ALS (Alternate Line Service), this icon may appears wi th the number 1, 2, or both.
Your phone 16 Backlight The display and the k eypad are illuminated by a backli ght. When you pr ess any key , the bac kligh t illuminates. It turns off if you don ’t press any key withi n a given per iod of t ime, depe nding o n the Backlight menu optio n.
Your phone 17 Built-in antenna Y our phone has a built-in antenna. As wi th other mobile radio tr ansmitting equipment, do not touch the antenna unnecessarily when the phone i s switched on. Contact with the antenna affects call quality and may cause the phone to oper ate at a higher power level than ne eded.
18 Getting started Inserting/Removing the SIM card When you subscribe to a cellular network, you are provided with a SIM card loaded with your subscription details, such as your PIN, an y optional services av ailable and so on. • Keep all miniature SIM cards out of the reach of small ch ildren.
Getting started 19 Removing the SIM card T o remove the SIM card, sl ide the card out of the holder , as shown. Installing/Removing/Charging the battery Y our phone is powered by a rechargeable Li-ion battery . Use o nly approved batteries and chargers.
Getting started 20 2. Press the battery against the back of the phone until it clicks int o place. Removing the battery 1. Switch off the phone by pressing and ho lding the key . 2. T o remove the battery , pull the battery catch toward t he top of the phone and hold it in that position.
Getting started 21 1. Plug the connector o f the tra vel adapter into the jack at the bottom of the phone. Check that the arrow on the connector is facing towards t he front of the phone.
Getting started 22 3. When charging is finished, disconnect the adapter from the pow er outlet and from the phone by pressing the grey tab s on both sides of the connector and pulling the connector out.
Getting started 23 Switching the phone on or off T o switch the phone on: 1. Hold down the key until the phone switches on. 2. If the phone asks for a PIN, enter the PIN and press the Ok soft key . F or further details, see page 185. The phone searches for your network and the current date and tim e a ppear on the display .
Getting started 24 Selecting functions and options Y our phone offers a set of functions that allow you to customise your phone. These functions are arranged in menus and sub-menus, accessed via the two soft k eys marked and Each menu and sub-menu allows you to view and alter the settings of a particular function.
Getting started 25 T o view various functions/op tions available or select the one is requi red: 1. Press the appropriate soft key . In some functions, you may be asked for a password or PIN.
Getting started 26 locks the ke ys automatically when yo u slide the folder d own. Otherwise, if you set the Continue operation option in the Slide down operation menu (see page 162), the confirming message appears on the display when you slide t he folder down in t he Idle Mode.
27 Call functions Making a call Using the number ke ypad When the idle screen is displayed, e nter the area code and phone number , and p ress the key . Note: If you have set the Auto redial option (Menu 9-5) to On , the number is redialled automatically up to ten times if the per son you called does not answer or the li ne is bus y .
Call functions 28 2. Enter the country code, area code and pho ne number and press the key . Making a call from phonebo ok Y ou can store the name s and phone numbers called regularly in the SIM card and p hone’s memory , which are jointly called the Phonebook.
Call functions 29 Viewing m issed calls If you have a subscription that includes the Caller Line Identification (CLI) f eature and you are unable to answer a call for any reason, you can find out who was calling y ou so that you can call the person back.
Call functions 30 Ending a call When you want to finish your call, briefly press the key . Or , slide the folder down if you set the Stop operation option in the Slide down operation menu (see page 162). Answering a call When somebo dy calls you, the phone rings a nd displays the incomin g call anim ation.
Call functions 31 Adjusting t he volume During a call, if you wish to adjust the earpiece volume, use the vo lume key s on the left side of the phone. When you hear a sound, such as ringtone, you can also adjust the earpie ce volume. Bu t it is not fixed.
Call functions 32 CAUTIONS : Do not hold the phone near to your ear when you use the loudspeaker . Because the volume may be extremely loud. Note : Y ou can turn on / off the loudspeaker by pressing the Right soft key during a call.
Call functions 33 1. Press the Options soft key . 2. If necessary , press the Up or Down k ey to highlight the Phonebook option. Press the Select soft key . 3. Select the Find name option and press the Select soft key . The Phonebo ok entries are list ed.
Call functions 34 Sending DTMF tones Y ou can send the DTMF(Dual T one Multi-Frequency) tones of the number on th e display during a call. This option is helpful for entering a password or account number when you call an automated system, lik e a banking service.
Call functions 35 Using the voiceclarity The voiceclarity feature ma kes received sound loud and clear during a call. It is useful when you are in a noisy place. The phone turns on the voiceclarity feature automatically after a while when you are in a noisy place and the voicec larity is set to on.
Call functions 36 T o place a call on hold, 1. Press the Options soft key . 2. Press the Up or Down key to highlight the Hold option. If you want to reac tivated the call , press the Retrie. soft key . T o make a call wh ile you hav e a call in progress : 1.
Call functions 37 Answering a second ca ll Y ou can answer an i ncoming call while you have a call in progress, if this service is supported by the network and you hav e activated the Call waiting option (see page 83). Y ou will be notified of an incoming call by a ca ll waiting tone.
Call functions 38 Making a multi- party call A multi-party call feature is a network service that allows up to six people to take part simu ltaneously in a multi-party or conference call. For m ore information, contact your service provider . Setting up the multi-party call 1.

T o make a call whe n you hav e the multi-part y call: See “T o make a cal l while you have a c all in progress:” on page 36. 41 Entering Text The phone allows yo u to enter characters for messages and names in Chinese and Engli sh. T o enter Chine se text, the phone provi des sever al widely used pronunciation based (Pi nyin) and character shape based (St roke) input methods to meet the p references of differen t users, allowing for greater convenience and ease of use.
Entering Text 42 Changing the Text Input Mode When you are in a field that all ows character entry , you should notice the text input mod e indicator on the bottom of the display . Example : Entering a name in Phonebook T o change to another text input mode: 1.
Entering Text 43 Using Pinyin Mode Pinyin is a system to mark Chinese pronunciation in Latin alphabets. With the p inyin input method, y ou can enter Chinese char acters by entering the pin yin string from the phone keypad and the phone automatically pres ents the matching alt ernatives.
Entering Text 44 3. If you cannot find the char acter you want from the displa y , press the Up or Down k ey to scroll through choices in the Char acter Selection map . When the character y ou are typing appears in the Char acter Selection Ma p, you may select it, without com pleting the P inyin spelling or entering the tone for the char acter .
Entering Text 45 Inserting a Space Insert a space between the characters, press the key in T ext Area. Clearing Strok e s and Characters Press the C key or more t imes to r emove strokes t o the left. On ce the Pinyin Area is empt y , pressing th e C key remov es characters from the T e xt Area.
Entering Text 46 The table shows the stroke/key relati onship: Typing Strokes and Ch aracters in Stroke Mode 1. T o type a character , press ke ys corresponding to its component strok es. Press keys on the handset in the order that you would write the strokes, using one press per desired stroke.

Start entering the word by pressing keys 1 to 0 . Press each key only once for each letter . Example : T o enter “hello” in Quick Eng lish mode, press the 4 , 3 , 5 , 5 , and 6 keys .

53 Using the menus The phone offers a rang e of functions that allow you to tailor the phone to your needs. These functions are arranged in menus and sub-menus. Accessing a menu function The menus and sub-menus can be accessed by pressing the Menu or Phonebook soft key in Idle Mode, then scrolling with the navigation k eys.

60 Phonebook menu Phonebook offers the following features: • Phonebook : allows you to find, create or set up the speed-dialling feature and manage Phonebook entries. • Management : allows y ou to create or remov e your own number , set up caller groups and check the memory status.
Phonebook menu 61 Changing the phone memory entries Scroll to the c ategory that yo u want to ed it by pressing the Left or Right key . Fol lo wi ng c at eg or ie s are available and yo u can edit information of each category by pressing the Opti ons soft key .
Phonebook menu 62 Changing the SIM me mory entrie s T o change the SIM memory entry’s information, press the Options soft key . The following options are availab le: Edit number This option allows you to change the number . Y ou can also add a new number if none has been stored for the selected category .
Phonebook menu 63 Add entry (Phonebook 1-2) Y ou can store phone numbers and the corresponding names in the memory of your SIM card. In addition, you can store up to 1000 names in the p hone memory and each name can be associated with up to five numbers.

73 SAT (SIM Application Toolkit) If you use a SAT card that provides additional services, the SAT menu displays. For further details, see your SIM card instruct ions.
74 Call records Via this menu, you can view the: • calls you missed, received or dialled. • cost of your calls. • length of your calls. Note : Y ou can access the numbers in the three types of call records by pressing the key in Id le Mode.
Call records 75 By pressing the Options soft key, you can also: • delete the current call record f rom the list. • delete all of the call s. • paste the number into Phonebook. Dialled calls (Menu 2- 3) This option lets you view the last 2 0 dialled numbers.
Call records 76 Call time (Menu 2-5) This option lets you vie w the timers for calls made and received. Notes: • If your SIM card supports the AL S (Alternate Li ne Service) feature, yo u must first select the appropriate line.
Call records 77 The following options are available: Last call cost : cost of the last call made. Total cost : total cost of all calls m ade since the cost counter was last reset. If the total cost exceeds the maximum cost set via t he Set max cost option, you can no longer make any calls until you reset the counter.
78 Network services These menu functions are network services. Please contact your servic e provider to check their availability and subscribe to t hem, if you wish. Call diverting (Menu 3-1) Note : The call divert options ma y be different depending on you r SIM card and those not supported by y our network oper ator may not be shown.

Network services 80 Deactivating specific ca ll diverting options 1. Select the call diverting op tion to be deactiv ated. 2. Select the type of calls to wh ich this option applies. 3. Press the Remove soft key . The phone sends your settings t o the network and displays the network’ s acknowledgement.
Network services 81 Cancel all : all call barring options are deactivated; calls can be made and received normally. Change barring password : allows you to change barring password.
Network services 82 Deactivating s pecific call barring option s 1. Select the call barring option to be de activated. 2. Select the type of calls to wh ich this option applies. 3. Press the Deactivate soft key . 4. Enter your call barring password supplied by your servic e provid er .
Network services 83 Call waiting (Menu 3-3) This network service informs you when someone is trying to reach you during another call. You can specify individual call waiting options for each of the fo.
Network services 84 Network select ion (Menu 3-4) The Network selection feature enables you to automatically or manually select the network used when roaming outside your home area. Note : Y ou can select a network other than your home network only if it has a valid roa ming agreement with your home network.
Network services 85 Caller ID (Menu 3-5) You can prevent your phone number from being displayed on the phone of the person being called. Note : Some networks do not allow the user to change this setting. The following options are available: Default : the default setting provided b y the network is used.
86 Sound settings You can use the Sound settings feature to customise various settings, suc h as the: • ringtone, v olume and type for inco ming calls o r messages. • sounds made when your call is connected or when you press a key . • quiet mode which your phone switches to w hen you hold down the key in the Idle Mode.
Sound setting s 87 Ring volume : allows you to adjust the ring volume. Use the Up and Down keys or the volume keys on the left side of the phone. The more bars you see, the louder t he volume. Alert typ e : lets you specify how you are informed of any incoming calls.
Sound setti ngs 88 Vibration : the phone vibrates but does not ring. Vibration then tone : the phone first vibrates and then starts ringing . Repetition : allows you to specify how often the phone informs you of a new me ssage. You can choose either Once or Periodic .
Sound setting s 89 Key tone (Menu 4-5) This menu option allows you to select the tone that the keypad sounds when you pr ess a dial key. T o turn the sound off , select Off . To adjust the key tone volume, press the volume keys on the left side of the phone in Idle Mode.
Sound setti ngs 90 Slider tone (Menu 4-8) This me nu allows y ou to select th e slider ton e that the phone sounds whe n you slide the folder up or down. To turn the sound off, select Off . Alerts on call (Menu 4-9) This menu allows you to set the phon e to all alerts while calling.
91 Messages This menu allows you to create, send, read and save messages with the Short Message Service (SMS: text message) , Enhanced Message Service (EMS: message including simple image, animation o.
Messages 92 You also hear an alert, depending on the message sound setting; for further details, see page 87. To read the new message(s) immediatel y, press the View soft key. The list of the messages appears. Note: T o clear the ne w messa g e notification on the display , pre ss the key .
Messages 93 2. While entering your me ssage, press the Optio ns soft key to use the following options. • Send : allows you to send the messag e. Refer to the next step. • Text : allows you to form at the text. Follow ing text attributes can all be combined as required.
Messages 94 3. When you have finished entering your message, choose Send from the o ptions. 4. Enter a destination number on the Address screen. Y ou can search for a number in Phonebook by pressing the Phonebook soft k ey . Note : T o clear or clear all your input, press or pre ss and hold the C key .
Messages 95 • sender’s phone number , or name if stored in Phonebook. • message status; for a read message, for a message to read or for an incomplete message. To view a message, scroll to it and press the Select soft key. The screen shows the: • date and time when the me ssage was receiv ed.
Messages 96 Extract m edia : you can save media (except the predefined EMS animations and sounds) from the message into Media box. You can use these items when writing a message; for further details, see page 93. Transfer : allows you to transfer the message from the SIM card to the phone’s memory or vice versa.
Messages 97 Delete : allows you to delete the mess age. Cut address : extracts phone numbers, em ail addresses or URL addresses in the text, so that you can call the number or send a message to the number or save it in your Phonebook. Send : allows you to send the message to another person.
Messages 98 4. When a confirming message appears, press the Yes soft key to delete all of the mes sages in the box(es). Otherwise, press th e No soft key . Multimedia messages (Menu 5-2) Multimedia Message Service (MMS) is a messaging service very similar to Short Message Service (SMS).
Messages 99 the message appear on the display. You also hear an alert, depending on the message sound setting; for further detail s, see page 87. To read th e new me ssage in Id le Mode, p ress the View soft key. And then you see the list in the Inbox.
Messages 100 Notes : • Y ou can only receive up to 150 messages. • Multime dia messag e box es, Camer a, and Media box share a given amount of memory in your ph one. Y ou can also use the Delete or Delete all option to delete some soun ds or images in Camera or M edia box.
Messages 101 Picture (continued) 3. Select one of pictures you want to add. The picture is display e d. 4. Press the Add soft key . T o add a picture in the Media box ; 1. Select one of the picture categories. The picture li st of the category is displayed .

Y ou can move to each page using the Left or Right key on the me ssage screen. • Page timing : allows you to set how long one page of the received messages displays. After a specified time, the display automati cally scrolls to the next page.

Messages 105 To view a message except re trieving, scroll to it and press the Select soft key. To scroll through the message contents, press the Up or Down key.
Messages 106 Properties: shows you detaile d information about the message. Move to My folder : moves the message to th e My folder for later u se. Outbox Outbox stores messages that you sent, you failed to send and you cancelled sending.
Messages 107 To scroll through the message, press the Up or Down key. When the message has more than one page, you can press the Left or Right key to move through the pages or the pages are m oved through as paging timing that sender fixed autom atically.
Messages 108 Delete: dele te s the message. Properties: shows you detaile d information about the message. My folder You can move the m essages stored in the Inbox or Outbox to the My folder by using the Move to My folde r option.
