Display 15 Display Display Layout The display is comprised of three areas. Area Descripti on First line Displays v arious icons (see page 16 ). Middle lines Display messages, instructions and any information that you enter (number to be dialed, for example).
Display 16 Icons Icon Descrip tion Shows the receiv ed signal strength. The greater the number of bars, the better the signal strength . Appears when a call is in progress.
Display 17 Backlight The display is illuminated by a backlight. When yo u press any key , the backlight illu minates. It turns of f if no key is presse d within a given p eriod of time, depend ing on th e Back Light menu option. Getting S tarted 19 Getting Started Installing the SIM Card When you subscribe to your service provider’ s network, you are provided with a plug-in SIM card loaded with your subscription details, such as your PIN, any optional services av ailable and so on.

Getting S tarted 21 4. Place the battery back, taking care to match the tabs on the battery with the grooves on the phon e. 5. Press the battery down until it clicks into place. Make sure that the battery is properly installed before switiching on the power.

The travel charger allows you to use the phone while the battery is c harging, but this ca uses the phone to charge more slowly . Note: Y ou must fully charge the battery before using your phone for the first time.

Call Functions 26 Redialing th e Last Number The phone stores the numbers you dialed, received or missed.T o recall any o f these numbers, proceed as follo ws. 1. If you have t yped any characters on the displa y , clear the display by holding down the key for more than one second.
Call Functions 27 Answering a Call When somebody calls you, the phon e rings and shows t he incoming call animation. If the call er can be identifi ed, the caller ’s phone number or name, if stored in your phone book, is displa yed. 1. Selecting Functions and Options 31 Selecting Functions and Options Y our phone offers a set of functi ons that allow you to custo mize your phone. These functions are arranged in menus and sub- menus, accessed via the two soft keys marked and . Each menu and sub-menu allows you to view and alter the settings of a particular function.

Phonebook 35 Phonebook Y ou can store phone numbers and their corresponding names in the memory of your SIM card. In addition, you can store up to 1000 numbers in the phone memory . The SIM card and phone memories, although physically separ ate, are used as if they were a single entit y , called the phonebook.

Entering T ext 43 Entering Text When using your phone, you will often need to enter text. For example, when storing a name in the phonebook, creating your personal greeting or scheduling events in y our calendar . Y ou can enter alphanumeric char acters by using your phone’ s keyp ad .
Entering T ext 44 Using the T9 Mode The T9 predictive text input mode allows you to ke y in any character using single k eystrokes. This text input mode is based on a built -in dictionary . 1. When you are in the T9 predictive text input mode, start entering a word by pre ssing keys 2 to 9 .

In-Call Options 47 In-Call Options Y our phone provides a number of control functions that you can use du ring a call. Putting a Call on Hold Y ou can place th e current call on hold whenever you w ant. Y ou can make another call while you ha ve a call in progress if your network supports this service.
In-Call Options 48 Switching the Microphone Off (Mute) Y ou can temporarily switch your phone’ s microphone off so that the other person cannot hear you. Example : Y ou wish to say some thin g to another person in the room but do not want th e other person to hear you.

T ext Messages 61 Text Messages The SMS (Short Message Servic e) function is a network service and may not be supported by y our network. Messages can be se nt by te xt, fax, Email and paging messaging system s, provided that these se rvices are supported by your network.
T ext Messages 62 Forward : allows you to send a message that you have received or saved. F or further information on how to send a message, see page 62 . Text Reply : (inbox only): allows you to reply to the sender by sendin g a text mess age. Y ou can also change the SMS center number , if required.
T ext Messages 63 Send Only : allows you to send th e message. The message will be delete d after sending. Save and Send : allows y ou to sa ve a copy of th e message and then send the message to the required destination. Y ou can read t he message in your outbox u sing the Read Messages option.
T ext Messages 64 Text Formatting : allows you to format the style of the text. For the Size attrib ute, the Nor mal , Large and Small sizes are available. For the Underline and Strike throug h attributes , select On or Off . The attributes c an be combined.

Picture Messages 69 Picture Messages Multimedia Message Service (MMS) is a messaging service very si milar to Short Message Service (SMS). It provides automatic and immediate delivery of personal multimedia messages from phone to phone or from phone to e-mail.
Picture Messages 70 While viewing the i nformation, press the Options soft key to use the follo wing options: Retrieve : shows you the m essage contents. Delete : delete s the message. More Information : shows you detailed information about the message.
Picture Messages 71 Cut Address : allows you to extract the destination number from the mess age, so that you can call the number or save i t in your Phonebook. Forward : allows you to forward the message to another person. Save Picture : allows you to save an image from the message into y our phone.

Organizer 93 Organizer The Organizer feature enables you to: ● view the calendar and organize your schedule. ● define a lis t of things to do. ● set the cu rrent date and time. ● set an alarm so that the phone rings at a specific time, such as to remind you of an appointment.

The screen sh ows the: ● city name. ● current date and time. ● time difference between the sel ected city and your city if you have set the local time (see below for further details) or GMT (by default).

Press the Yes soft key to confirm the del etion. Otherwise, press the No soft key . Push Message In this menu option, you can receive and access web messages from th e server .
Funbox 109 Images In this menu, you can view the list of pictures downloade d from the server . Y ou can set the downloaded pict ures as the current background image, but cann ot send them to other phones. When the memory is full, a warning message is displ ayed and the phone rejects addition al pictures until you erase obsolete ones.

Solving Problems 111 Solving Proble ms Before contacting the after- sales service, perform the following simple checks. They may sa ve you the time and expense of an unnecess ary service call.
