Getting Started 4 Section 1: Getting Star ted This section explains how to start using your Samsung F inesse™ phone by activating your service, setting up your V oicemail, o r getting an understanding of how this manual is pu t together .
5 Use the T ra v el Adapter The travel adapter included with your phone is a convenient, light-weight charger that rapidly charges your phone from any 120/220 V AC outlet. 1. Plug the large e nd of the T ravel Adapter into a standard 120 V AC or 220 V AC wall outlet.
Getting Started 6 Install the Batter y Note: Y our phone comes packaged with a partially charged rechargeable standard Li-Ion battery and tra vel adapter . Import ant!: Y ou must fully charge the battery the first time you use your phone, otherwise you could damage the battery.
7 T urn Y our Phon e On 1. Press and hold the LOCK key ( ), on the top of the phone. Note: As with any other radio-transmitting device, do not touch the antenna (at the bottom of the device) while using your phone as this can affect call quality and can cause the phone to operate at a higher power level than is necessary.

In standby mode, touch the Dialer soft key , then touch and hold or d ial your own mobile number to dial Voicemail. (For more information, refer to “Making a Call — Number Entry Di aling” on page 21.

Understanding Y our Phone 14 Soft Keys Functions fo r the soft keys a re defined by what appears above each in the display . There are four soft keys across t he bottom of the display . Send Key The Send key ( ) is used to answer calls, dial calls, and to recall the las t number(s) dialed, rec eived, or missed.

21 Section 3: Call Functions This section explains ho w to make or answer a call. This section also inc ludes the features and function ality associated wit h making or ans wering a call. Making a Call — Number Entr y Dialing 1. In standby mode, press the Dialer soft key .
Call Functions 22 Manu al Paus e Calling When you call aut omated systems ( like banking ser vices), you are often requir ed to enter a password or ac count number . Instead of manu ally entering th e numbers each time, you can store the numbers in your Contacts along with special characters called pauses.
23 4. T o select a number other than the marked Co ntacts entry’ s default number , select the Contacts entry . The entry’ s information appears in the display . • Select th e radio but ton for the number you wish to dial. 5. Press the Add soft key .

25 V oice Dialing Tips: • Wait for the beep before s peaking. • Speak clearly at a normal volume, as if you were talk ing to someone on the phone. • When saying a name, say th e first name then the last name. Dialing a Name T o dial a name, do the follow ing: 1.
Call Functions 26 2. Say “ Call ”. VoiceSignal prompts you to “ Say the name or # ”. 3. Speak c learly and say the telephone numbe r of the person you want to call. For example, s ay “7 8 1 9 7 0 5 2 0 0." If it recognizes the number , Vo ice Dial repeats and d ials the number .
27 Tip: Y ou can set your phone to answer calls automatically or when you press any key but . (F or more information, refer to “Call Settings” on page 140.) Ignoring a Call When you ign ore an incoming ca ll, the call is i mmediately forwarded to yo ur voice mail.

The call information screen shows t he caller’ s name (Contacts only), the number c alled received from, the time and date t he call was received, and the duration of the call. 4. The call information screen offers the follo wing options: • — Press to dial this number .

33 5. T o revi ew another Data call, press the Left and Right arrow keys at the top of the scre en. Call Timer View the duration of yo ur last call, total ca lls, and calls made during the life cyc le of you phone using the Call T imer feature. Note: Call Timer is not for billing purposes.
Call Functions 34 • Lifetime Data Counter — View the total amount of data sent or received by y our phone sin ce activa tion (Lif etime Data Cou nter cannot be reset) . 3. Press the Reset soft key to reset all counters except Lifetime Data Co unter .
35 Section 4: Menu Naviga tion This section explains the men u navi gation for your phone. It also describes the menus availa ble with your phone. Main Menu Naviga tion Access menus using the Menu soft key , other soft keys, or icons on the Widget Bar or Shortcut Bar .
Menu Navigation 36 3. Press, hold, and slide th e icon to the right until it is free of the Widget Bar . The icon now displays on the standby screen and expands in siz e. Note: Y ou can position a Widget icon as needed by pressing, holding, and sliding it.
37 Soft Keys The following soft keys are available during a call: • Dialer — Opens the Dialer s creen to enable you to place another cal l while the current call remains acti ve. • Contacts — Opens the Conta cts list screen. • Add T o Contacts — Lets you add the other party’ s number to your Contacts list.

45 Group This option lets you find a Contacts list entry with a specific Group name. 1. In standby mode, press the Contacts soft key . The Contacts screen appears in the display with an alphabeti cal list of Contacts showing. 2. Press the Down arrow button at the top right corner of the screen.

Adding Pause s to Contacts Numbers When you call au tomated systems (lik e banking services), you are often required to enter a password or account number .

Press the Change Order soft key . The Fav or it es list changes, as shown. Note: The Voicemail favorite (1) is deactivated to prevent you changing it.

51 Renamin g a Contacts Group Use this option to rename a Gro up in your Contacts list . 1. In standby mode, press the Menu soft key and select Contacts . The Contacts screen appears in the display with an alphabetical list of Contacts showing. 2. Press the Down arrow button at the top right corner of the screen.

53 Section 6: Entering T e xt This section details how to select the type of text entry screen (phone-style touch ke ypad, QWER TY touch keypad, or divided or full-screen handwriting recogniti on p anel).
Entering T ext 54 The following options ap pear in the display: • 3X4 Keypad — Displays the phone -style touch keypad. •Q W E R T Y — Displays the keyboard -style touch keypad, in landscape mod e. • Handwriting box — Displays the divided tex t entry screen with the handwritte n text entry field at th e bottom.
55 Handwriting R ecognition S creens Y our Finesse™ also can recogniz e print handwriting. Just print letters or numbers, and F inesse™ tran slates it to text in a screen font.

Entering T ext 58 If more than one word shares the same numeric sequence, T 9 Word provides the most com monly used word, any additional w ords appear in a scro llable pop-up list, in w hich you can select a p referred word. Note: T o enter a space, press .
59 䊳 While composing a text messa ge, enter symbols by using one of following keypa ds: • Using the ph one keypad: – Press the Symbols soft key . The first of four symbol screens appears in the display . – Use the Prev and Next soft keys to page through the other symbols, if desired.

Thi s section also describes the features and functi onality associated with messaging. Creating and Sending New Messages This section guides yo u through procedures for creating and sending text, picture, and postcards.

Messaging 70 Outbo x Y our phone stores outgoing messag es in the Outbox, regardless of whether the message was successf ully sent to, or received by , the addressee. Tip: Verify whether and when a message or e-mail was successfully received by enabling the Delivery Ack message send option.
71 • T o delete one or more messages, press the Erase soft key , select the message( s) to be deleted , then press the Erase soft key again. • T o access other options, press the More soft key. Finding Applications With @metro, you can download full featured applications ov er the air including games , personalized ring tones, pictures, and more.

When the battery is low, an empty battery icon flashes and the phone sounds an alert, which indicates your phone is about to shut down.

Shutter Sound Choose from four different sounds whenever you t ake a picture. Aside from being a cool sound ef fect, Shutter Sounds acts as an audible reminder t hat your camera has taken a picture.

Accessing the Music Playe r Note: A microSD™ Memory Card must be installed for the Music Player to launch.
Music Player 100 5. Elapsed Time and T otal Time — Show how many hours, minutes, and seconds of the music file have been play ed and shows how long the music file is in hours, minutes, and seconds.
101 4. T o add a file to a Playli st, press the Add to Playlist soft key . The Add to playlists screen appears in the display . • Select a music f ile to add to a Playlist . A check mark appea rs in the check box for that file. • Press the Save soft key .
