Getting Started 7 Special T ext In this manual, you’ll find text that is s et apart from the rest . These are intended to point ou t important info rmation, share quick methods for acti vating fe atures, to define terms, and more.
8 Setting Up Y our de vice Install the 4G L TE SIM (Subscriber Identity Module) card, battery, and optional memory card, then charge the battery to begin using your device. Back Co ver The batter y , SIM card, and optional memory card are installed under a removable cover on the back of the device.
Getting Started 9 SIM Card Y our device uses a 4G L TE SIM (Subscriber Identity Module). The 4G L TE SIM is a small, rectangular plast ic card that stores your phone numbe r , information a bout your wireless service, and other inform ation such as messages.
10 Batter y Y our device is powered by a re chargeable, standa rd Li-Ion battery. A W all/USB Charger (Charging Head and USB cable) is included with the device, for charging the battery . The batter y comes partially charged. Y ou must fully charge the batt ery befor e using your de vice for the firs t time.

14 Setup W izar d The first time you turn your device on, Setup Wizar d will guide you through the basics of setting up your device. Follow the prompts to choose a def ault language, set up accounts, choose locati on services, and learn mo re about your device.
Getting Started 15 Roaming When you tra vel outside your home networ k’ s coverage area, your device can use roaming to acquir e service on o ther compatible digital networks. When roa ming, the Roaming icon displays in the Status bar . Tip : Y ou can set your device’ s roaming behavior .

22 Home Screen The Home screen is the starting point for using your device. • Status Bar : Presents icons to show network sta tus, battery power , and connection details. For a list of icons, see “Status Bar” on page 35. • Shortcuts : Shortcuts to apps.
Understanding Y our Device 23 Extended Home Screen The Home screen consists of th e Home panel, pl us panels that extend beyond the display width to provide more space for adding shortcuts, widgets and folders. Slide your finger horizontally across the scr een to scroll to the left or right side panels.
24 Menu Navig ation Navigat e your device’ s featur es using the command keys and the touch screen. War n i ng ! Please n ote that a t ouch scree n responds best to a light touch from the pad of you r finger or a non- metallic stylus.

26 Hand Gestures Y our device recognizes motion, to allow you to navigate and access features by moving t he device in specific gestures. T o use gestures, enable the Mo tion settings. For more information, se e “Motions and Gestures” on pa ge 161.

28 Activ ate Motion 1. From the Home screen, press Menu and then ta p Settings ➔ My device ➔ Motions and gestures . 2. T ap the ON /OFF slider located to the right of Motion to turn it on . 3. Read the on-screen notification and tap OK . Note: At least one feature must be activated before Motion can be activated.
Understanding Y our Device 29 Smar t Scr een With Smart screen activated your phone automatically adjusts screen time-out, rota tion when it detects you are looking at the screen, and controls s crolling and playback when you are facing the screen.
30 V oice Contr ol Use voice commands to control and interact with the phone: • Incoming calls : When enabled, use th e voice commands Answer or Reject to answer or re ject calls. When you answer , the Speaker automatically turns on fo r hands-free conversation.

Scroll the se ttings at the top of Notifi cations , then touch Multi wind ow to enable it. Use the B ack Key Press and hold the Back key to hide the Multi Window tab.
32 Note: This is a quick way to get the tab out of the w ay if you can’t get to a button or option behind it. R epositioning the Multi Window The Multi window contains tw o components: the tab and the applications panel. Y ou can move the tab to other locations and lock it onto any of the four sides of the screen (top/bottom/left/right).

34 • Sync : When enabled, this featu re synchronizes accounts and data. • Smart scroll : When enabled, the ph one scrolls the screen di splay according to the tilt of the phone and your face position.

Airplan e Mode Active : All wireless communications are disabled. See “Ai rplane mode” on page 129. USB Connec ted : The device is connected to a computer usin g a USB cable.
36 Signal Strength Roaming, CDMA : Current signal strength, when the device is roaming on CDMA networks. The greater the num ber of bars, the stronger the signal. Wi-Fi Active : Wi-Fi is active, and connected to a Wi-Fi network. The greater the number of rays, the stronger the signal.

Understanding Y our Device 43 Entering T ext using Swype Swype™ is a new way to enter text on touch screens. Instead of touching each key individually , use your finger to trace over the letters of a word. For each word, place your finger on the first letter and g lide to the subsequent letters, lifting on the last letter .
44 Editing Keyboard The Editing K eyboard provides a quick way to move the cursor and highlight text. If th e applicatio n in which you are working supports editing, yo u can cut, copy or paste highlighted text. Swype from Swype to . Using Swype V oice Input Enter text by speaking.

Depending on the account, you can choose to synchronize your calendar , contacts, and other types of content.

52 Sending Namecards (vCards) Y ou can send a contact namecard as a v Cards via Bluetooth to other Bluetooth devices, or as an a ttachment via Gmail or Email. Important! Not all Bluetooth devices will accept contacts, and not all devices support transfers of multipl e contacts.

Messaging 75 Emergency Aler ts This device is des igned to receive Wireless Emergency Alerts from the Commercial Mobile Alert Ser vice (CMAS). Emergency Alerts are geographically-targeted, and alert customers of imminent threa ts to their safety with in their area.
76 Deleting Email Acc ounts 1. From the Home screen, touch 2. Apps ➔ Menu ➔ Settings and then touch . 3. T ouch the email account to delete. 4. T ouch the email account listed und er the Accounts heading. 5. T ouch Remove account . Syncing Email Accounts Syncing refreshes your device wit h the account ’ s s ervers.

78 Gmail Send and receive emails via Gmail, Google’ s web-based email. From the Home screen, touch Apps ➔ Gmail . Setting Up Y our G mail Account The first time you launch Gma il, your device will prompt you to set up your Google account, if you ha ven’t already set it up.
Messaging 79 V oicemail All unanswered calls to your de vice are sent to voice mail, even if your device is turned off, so you’ll want to set up your voice mail and personal greeti ng as soon as you activa te your device.
80 Google T alk Chat with other Google T alk users. Note: T alk requir es that you hav e a Google account set up on your device. For more info rmation, see “Y our Google Account” on page 13. If you set up your Google account, you are automatically logged in.
Applications 81 Section 6: Application s Managing A pplica tions Apps displays all a pplications installed on your phone, including apps you d ownload and install. From Apps, you can ch ange the way apps appear on the screen, uninstall apps you’ve do wnloaded, and share apps with friends.
82 Customizing the Apps Screens Choosing a view By default, app icons appear in Grid view. Y ou can change the view to list view. 1. From the Home screen, touch Apps .
Applications 83 Amazon Shop with Amazon. From the Home screen, touch Amazon . Amazon Kindle Use the Amazon Kindle TM application to do wnload books for reading, right on your phone. Note: Y ou must be registered with Amazon to use th e Kindle application.

Sharing yo ur photos and videos Y our device has exciting new features for sharing your photos with your friends and family: • Use Share Shot to automatically share your ph otos and videos with your frie nds and family via Wi -Fi Direct.
