Assembling 11 Inser t the SIM or USIM card. 3 Place the SIM or USIM card into the devic e with • the gold-coloured contacts facing down. If you do not insert a SIM or USIM card, you can • only use your device ’ s non-network services and some menus.
Assembling 12 Charge the batt er y Before using the device f or the rst time, you must charge the battery. Y ou can charge the device with the pro vided travel adapter or by connecting the device to a PC with a PC data cable. Use only Samsung-approved char gers and cables.
Assembling 13 Plug the large end of the trav el adapter into a power 3 outlet. Y ou can use the device while it is charging , but it • may take longer to fully charge the battery . While the device is charging , the touch screen may • not funct ion d ue t o a n uns table pow er su pply .
Assembling 14 Charge with the PC data cable › Before charging , ensure that your PC is turned on. Open the cover to the multifunction jack on the top of 1 the device. Plug one end (micro-USB) of the PC data cable into the 2 multifunction jack. Plug the other end of the PC data cable into a USB port 3 on a PC.
Assembling 15 Y our device supports only the F A T le structure for • memory cards. If you insert a card formatted with a dierent le structure , your device will ask you to reformat the memory card. Fr equent writing and erasing of data will shorten • the lifespan of memory cards.
Assembling 16 Remove the memory card › Before remo ving a memory card, rst unmount it for safe removal. In Idle mode, select 1 Applications → Settings → SD card and phone storage → Unmount SD card . Remove the back cov er . 2 Push the memory card gently until it disengages from 3 the device.
Assembling 17 Attach a hand str ap (optional) Remove the back cov er . 1 Slide a hand strap through the slot and hook it over 2 the small projection. Replace the back cover . 3 F ormat the memory card › Formatting y our memory card on a PC may cause incompatibilities with your device .

Getting started 23 › Add items t o the idle screen Y ou can customise the idle screen by adding shortcuts to applications or items in applications, widgets , or folders. T o add items to the idle screen, Press [ 1 ] → Add or tap and hold the empty area on the idle screen.
Getting started 24 Use the shortcuts panel › In Idle mode or while using an application, tap the indicator icons area and drag y our nger down to open the shortcuts panel. Y ou can activate or deactivate wireless connection features and access a list of notica tions, such as messages, calls, even ts or processing status.
Getting started 25 Ac cess applications T o access your device ’ s applications, In Idle mode, select 1 Applications to access the application list. Scroll left or right to another application screen. 2 Y ou can also select a dot on the top of the screen to move to the corr esponding main menu screen directly .
Getting started 26 Drag the application icon to the location y ou want. 3 Y ou can move an application icon t o another main menu screen. Y ou can also move most-used applications next to Home . Press [ 4 ] → Save . T o change the order of the main menu screens, In the application list, place your two ngers on the 1 screen and pinch.

Getting started 28 Activate animation f or switching › windows In Idle mode, open the application list and select Settings → Display → Animation → Some animations or All animations . Select a wallpaper for the idle screen › In Idle mode, press [ 1 ] → W allpap er → an option.

Getting started 30 Lock your SIM or USIM car d › Y ou can lock your device by activating the PIN supplied with your SIM or USIM card. In Idle mode, open the application list and select 1 Settings → Location and security → Set up SIM card lock → Lock SIM card .
Getting started 31 Enter a phone number including a country code 6 (with + ). Enter a sender’ s name. 7 Enter the text message to be sent to the recipien ts. 8 Select 9 Save . Enter te xt Y ou can enter text by selecting characters on the virtual keypad or by inputting handwriting on the screen.
Getting started 32 Release the nger on the last character . 3 When the word display s correctly , select 4 to insert a space. If the correct word does not displa y , select an alternative wor d from the list that appears. Repeat steps 1-4 to complete y our text.

Communication 40 T o activate the speakerphone feature, select • Speaker . In noisy environments, y ou may have diculty hearing some calls while using the speakerphone feature . For bett er audio per formance, use the normal phone mode. T o turn o the microphone so that the other party • cannot hear you, select Mute .

Communication 42 Use F ixed Dialling Number (FDN) mode In FDN mode, your device will restrict outgoing calls, except f or the numbers stored in the FDN list. T o ac tivate FDN mode, In Idle mode, open the application list and select 1 Settings → Call settings → Fix ed D ialing Numbers → Enable FDN .
