Your phone 14 Icons Icon Description Shows the received signal strength. The more bars, the stronger the signal. Appears when a call is in progress. Appears when you are out of a service area. Your phone 15 Appears when you are connected to a GPRS-enabled network. Appears when the call diverting f eature is activated. When your SIM card suppo rts ALS (Alternat e Line Service), t his icon may appear with t he number 1, 2, or both. For exam ple, , , or .
Your phone 16 Backlight The display and the k eypad are illuminated by a backli ght. When you pre ss any key , the backli ght illuminates. It turns off if you don’t press any key withi n a given peri od of time , dependi ng on the Backlight menu optio n.
Your phone 17 Plug-in speaker With the plug-in speaker , you can hear sounds more loudly . T o use it, take off the cover a nd then conne ct the plug-in speaker to the ear- microphone jack at the right side of the phone. Built-in antenna Y our phone has a built-in antenna.
18 Getting started Inserting/Removing the SIM card When you subscribe to a cellular network, you are provided with a SIM card loaded with your subscription details, such as your PIN, an y optional services av ailable and so on. • K eep all miniature SIM cards out of the reach of small ch ildren.
Getting started 19 Removing the SIM card T o re move th e S IM ca rd, sl i de it out , as sho wn , a nd remove it from the sock et. Installing/Removing/Charging the battery Y our phone is powered by a rechargeable Li-ion battery . Use only approv ed batteries and chargers.
Getting started 20 2. Press the battery against the back of the phone until it clicks i nto place. Removing the battery 1. Switch off the phone by pressing and ho lding the key . 2. T o remove the b attery , push the battery c atch and hold it in that position.
Getting started 21 Charging the batt ery by using the trav el adapter Note : The phone can be used whi le the battery i s being charged, but this causes the battery to charge mo re slowly . 1. Plug the travel adapte r connector i nto the jack at the bottom of the phone.
Getting started 22 3. When charging is finished, disconnect the adapter from the pow er outlet and from the phone by pressing the grey tab s on both sides of the connector and pulling the connector out.
Getting started 23 Switching the phone on or off T o switch the phone o n: 1. Hold down the key until the phone switches on. 2. If the phone asks for a PIN, enter the PIN and press the OK soft key . For further details, see page 174. The phone searches for your network and the current date and tim e a ppear on the displa y .
Getting started 24 Selecting functions and options Y our phone offers a set of functions that allows you to customise your phone. These functions are arranged in menus and sub-menus, accessed via the two soft k eys marked and . Each me nu and sub-menu allow you to view and alter the settings of a particular function.
Getting started 25 T o view various functions/options av ailable, or select the one is required: 1. Press the appropriate soft key . In some functions, you may be asked for a password or PIN. Getting started 26 Locking or unlocking the keypad Y ou can lock the soft keys, navigation keys, W AP brower key , volume keys and camer a key to avoid pressing keys b y accident. T o lock the keys, slide the folder down. Note: Be careful with your finge r when you s lide the folde r dow n.
27 Call functions Making a call Using the number ke ypad When the idle screen is displayed, ente r the area code and phone number , and p ress the key . Note: If you have set the Auto redial option to On , the number is redialled au tomatically up to ten times if the person y ou called do es not answ er , or the line is busy .
Call functions 28 Making an internation al call 1. Press and hold the 0 key for the international prefix. The + char acter will appear when the phone is ready for further input. 2. Enter the country code, area code and pho ne number and press the key .

Call functions 30 Ending a call When you want to finish y our call, briefly press the key . Note : If you select t he Continue o peration from the Down option in the Slide setting s menu, you canno t finish y our call b y sliding th e folder dow n. Answering a call When somebo dy call s you, the phon e rings an d displays the incoming call image.
Call functions 31 Adjusting t he volume During a call, if you wish to adjust the earpiece volume, use the v olume k eys on the l eft side of the phone. When you hear a sound, such as ringtone, you can also adjust the earpiece volum e. The adjusted volum e level will be tempor ary .
Call functions 32 Switching the microphone off (Mute ) Y ou can temporarily switch your phone’ s microphone off so that the other person cannot hear you. Example : Y ou may wish to say something to another person in the room but do not want the calling person to hear y ou.
Call functions 33 3. Select the Find name option and press the Select soft key . The Phonebo ok entries are l isted. 4. Enter the first a few letters of the name that you want to find. The Phonebo ok entries are l isted starting with the first entry matching y our input.
Call functions 34 T o send the D TMF tones: 1. When you are connected to the teleservice system, press the Opti ons soft k ey . 2. Press the Up or Down k ey to highlight the Send DTMF option. Press the Select soft key . 3. Enter the number you wa nt to send and press the OK soft k ey .
Call functions 35 The phone turns on the voiceclarity feature automatically after a while when you are in a noisy place and the voiceclari ty is set to on. Turn on / off the voiceclarity 1. Press the Options soft key . 2. Press the Up or Down key to highlight the Voiceclarity on / Voiceclarity off option.
Call functions 36 Putting a call on hol d Y ou can place the current call on hold whenever you want. Y ou can make another call while you have a call in progress if this service is supported by the network. Of these two calls , one is active and the other is on hold and you can switch between the calls.
Call functions 37 Note : If you select the Continue o peration from the Down option in the Slide settings menu, yo u cannot finish your call by s liding the folder down.
Call functions 38 Making a multi- party call Multi-party call ing is a feature of some net works that allows up to six people to take part simultaneously in a multi-party or conference call. For mor e information, cont act your service provider . Setting up the multi-party call 1.

41 Entering text At many times while you are using y our phone, you need to enter text, such as whe n storing a name in Phonebook, writing a new message, creating a personal greeting, or scheduling events on your calendar .
Entering text 42 Changing the text input mode When you are in a field that allows char acters to be entered, you will see the text input m ode indicator at the bottom of the display . Example : Entering a name in Phonebook T o change to another text input mode: 1.
Entering text 43 Quickly changing the text input mod e Using T9 mode T o type a word in T9 mode: 1. Start entering the word by pressing keys 2 to 9 . Press each key only once for each letter . Example : T o enter “hello” in T9 mode, press the 4 , 3 , 5 , 5 , and 6 keys.
Entering text 44 If Spell appears above the left soft key while you are entering text, the word does not exist in the T9 dictionary . T o type words not found in T9 mode, change the text input mode to ABC mode, or proceed as follows: 1. Press the Spell soft key , or press the right soft key and select the Add word option.
Entering text 45 Inserting a space T o insert a space between words, press the key . Entering a nu mber directly T o enter a number , press and hold the number key . Scrolling T o mov e the cursor to t he left, right, up , or dow n within the text, press the navigation keys.
Entering text 46 Note : The cursor moves to the rig ht when you press a different key . When entering the same letter twice or a differ ent lett er on the same key , just press the Right key or wait a few seconds f or the cursor to move to the right autom atically , and then enter the next letter .
Entering text 47 Changing the case T o change the case of the next letter(s) that you type, press the key . There are three cases: • Lower case (no indicator) •I n i t i a l c a p i t a l ( ) • Capital lock ( ) Inserting a space T o insert a space between words, press the key .

49 Using the menus The phone offers a range of functions that allows you to tailor the phone to your nee ds. These functions are arranged in menus and sub-menus. Accessing a menu function The menus and sub-menus can be accessed by pressing the Menu or Phonebook soft k ey in id le mode, then scrolli ng with the navigation keys.

56 Phonebook menu The Phonebook offers the following features: • Phonebook : allows you to find, cre ate, or set up the speed-dialling feature and manage Phonebook entries. • Management : allows y ou to create or remov e your own number , set up caller groups and check the memory status.
Phonebook menu 57 Changing the phone memory entries Scroll to the c ategory that y ou want to edit by pressing the Left or Right key . The following categories are av ailable and you can edit information for each catego ry by pressing the Options soft key .
Phonebook menu 58 Changing the SIM me mory entries T o change the SIM memory entr y’s information, press the Options soft key . The following options are availab le: Edit number This option allows you to change the number . Y ou can also add a new number if none has been stored for the selected category .
Phonebook menu 59 Add entry (Phonebook 1-2) Y ou can store phone numbers and the corresponding names in the memory of your SIM card. In addition, you can store up to 1000 names in the p hone memory and each name ca n be associated with up to five numbers.
Phonebook menu 60 6. When you are satisf ied, press the OK soft key . 7. If you select Phone in step 3, go to step 8. If you select SIM in step 3, enter the location number and press the OK soft k ey . 8. If you want to change the entry , use the opti ons.

Phonebook menu 62 Dialling a nu mber stored in the SIM ca rd Once you have stored phone numbers in your SIM card, you can dial them easil y whenever required. T o dial a number stored in the SIM card: 1. Enter the number of the SIM card location w here the number you want to dial is stored.
Phonebook menu 63 Send all via infrared (Phonebook 1-5) Via the infrared connection, you can send your Phonebook entries to another IrDA- com pliant devices and vice versa. Note : This feature may not be available depending on the devices. Sending your phonebook entries 1.
Phonebook menu 64 Receiving phonebook entries from another device 1. Align the IrDA po rts on both sides. 2. Access the Infrared activa tion menu (see page 167) and se lect On to activ ate the port.
Phonebook menu 65 Delete all (Phonebook 1-6) Y ou can delete Phonebook entries selectively depending on the memory location, or a ll entries at once. 1. Scroll to a desired memory selection and place a check mark next to it by pressing the Select soft key .
Phonebook menu 66 Own number (Phonebook 2-1) T o store your own phone number(s) w ith a name: 1. Scroll to an empty location by pressing the Up or Down key and press the Select soft k ey . 2. When Edit number highlights, press the Select soft key . 3.
Phonebook menu 67 Group setting (Phonebook 2-2) Y ou can change the settings of the ten predefined caller groups. 1. Select a caller group by pressing the Up or Down key and press the Select soft key . 2. Scroll to a se tting option b y pressing the Up or Down key and press the Select soft key .
Phonebook menu 68 Memory status (Phonebook 2-3) Y ou can check how many names are stored in SIM card and phone’s m emory . When you hav e finished checking, press the soft key or the key to e xit. Service directory (Phonebook 3-1) Note : This feature may not be available depending on your SI M card.
69 SAT (SIM Application Toolkit) If you use a SA T card that provides additional services, the SA T menu displays. For further details, see your SIM card instructions.
70 Call records Via this menu, you can view: • calls you h ave misse d, received, or dialle d. • the cost of your calls. • the length of your calls. Note : Y ou can access the numbers in the three types of call records by pressing the key in idle mode.
Call records 71 By pressing the Options soft key , you can also: • delete the current call record from t he list. • delete all of the calls. • paste the number into Phonebook. Dialled calls (Menu 2-3) This op tion le ts you vi ew the la st 20 di alled numbers.
Call records 72 Call time (Menu 2-5) This option lets y ou view the timers for ca lls made and received. Notes: • If your SIM card supports the AL S (Alternate Line Service) feature, yo u must first select the appropriate line.
Call records 73 The following options are availab le: Last call cost : cost of the last call made. Total cost : total cost of all calls made since the cost counter was last reset. If the total cost exceeds the maximum cost set via t he Set max cost option, you cannot make any calls until you reset the counter .
74 Network services These menu functions are network services. Please contact your service provid er to check their av ailabilit y and subs cribe to them , if yo u wish. Call diverting (Menu 3-1) Note : The call divert options ma y be different depending on you r SIM card and those not supported by y our network oper at or may not be shown.
Network services 75 Example : Y ou can divert voice calls to your colleague if you are already using the phone. Setting ca ll divertin g options 1. Select the type of call diverting by pressing the Up or Down k ey and then press the Select soft key . 2.
Network services 76 Deactivating specific c all divert ing options 1. Select the call diverting op tion to be deactiv ated. 2. Select the type of calls to which this opti on applies. 3. Press the Remove soft key . The phone will send your setti ngs to the network and display the netw ork’ s acknowledgement.
Network services 77 Cancel all : all call barring options are deact ivate d; calls can be made and received normally . Change barring password : allows you to chang e the barring password.
Network services 78 Deactivating specific c all barring o ptions 1. Select the call barring option to be deactiva ted. 2. Select the type of calls to which this opti on applies. 3. Press the Deactivate soft key . 4. Enter your call barring password supplied by your servic e provider .
Network services 79 Call waiting (Menu 3-3) This network servic e informs you w hen someone is trying to reach you during another call. Y ou can specify individ ual call waiti ng options for each of the fo llowin g call t ypes: • V oice calls only • Data calls on ly (not av ailable when line 2 is in use) Activating the call w aiting feature 1.
Network services 80 Network select ion (Menu 3-4) The Network selection feature enables you to automatically or manually select the network used when roaming outside your home area. Note : Y ou can select a network other than your home network only if it h as a val id roaming agreement with your home network.
Network services 81 Caller ID (Menu 3-5) Y ou can prevent your phone number from being display ed on the phone of the p erson being called. Note : Some networks do not allow the user to change this setting. The following options are availab le: Default : the default setting pro vided by the network is used.
Network services 82 1. When Band selection displays, press the Select soft key . 2. Press the Up or D own key until the appropriate option (GSM 900/1 800, GSM 1900, or T riple band) highlights and press the Select soft key .
83 Sound settings Y ou can use the Sound setti ngs feature to customise v arious settings, such as the: • ringtone, v olume and type for incomin g calls or messages. • sounds made when your call is connected or when you press a key . • quiet mode which your phone switches to when you hold down the key in the idle mode.
Sound sett ings 84 Ring volume : allows you to adjust the ring volume. Use the Up and Down key s or the volume keys on the left sid e of the phone. The m ore bars you see, the louder the volume. Alert typ e : let s you spec ify ho w you are infor med of any incoming calls.
Sound setting s 85 Vibration : the phone vibrates but does not ring. Vibration then tone : the phone first vibrates and then plays the tone selec ted via the Tone option . Repetition : allows you to specify how often the phone informs you of a new message.
Sound sett ings 86 Key tone (Menu 4-5) This menu option allows you to select the tone that the keypad sounds when you press a key . T o turn the sound off , select Off . T o adjust the key tone volume, press the v olume keys on th e left si de of t he pho ne in i dle mo de.
Sound setting s 87 Slide tone (Menu 4-8) This me nu allows y ou to select the slide tone that the phone emits when you slide the folder up or down. T o turn the sound off , select Off . Alerts on call (Menu 4-9) This menu allows y ou to set the phone to all al erts while calling.
88 Messages This menu allows you to create, send, read and save messag es with the Short Message Se rvice (SMS: text message), Enhanced Message Service (EMS: message including simple image, animation .
Messages 89 T o read the new message(s ) immediately , press the View soft key . A list of the messages will appear . Note: T o clear th e new m essag e notification on the display , press the key .
Messages 90 2. While entering your message, press th e Optio ns soft key to use the following options. • Send : allows you to send the message. R efer to the next step . • Add media : allows you to add pictures, animations an d/or melodies to the messa ge.
Messages 91 Note : T o cle ar all of your in put, pre ss or pr ess and hold the C key . When you have no t enter ed any text, pressing and holding the C key wi ll return the disp lay to the pr evious scre en. T o send the message to multiple destinations up to 5, press the Add soft key and repeat step 4.
Messages 92 T o view a message, scroll to it and press the Selec t soft key . The screen shows the: • date and time when the m essage wa s received. • memory where the message was stored; for the SIM card, or for the phone’ s memory . • message contents.
Messages 93 Transfer : allows you to tr ansfer the message from the SIM card to th e phone’ s memory or v ice versa. Outbox Outbox stores an y messages that you ha ve already sent or just save d without sending.
Messages 94 Send : allows you to send the messag e to another person. Edit : allows you to edit the message. Transfer : allows you to tr ansfer the message from the SIM card to th e phone’ s memory or v ice versa. Delete all Y ou can delete all messages stored in the SIM card and phone’s memory in this menu.
Messages 95 Multimedia messages (Menu 5-2) Multimedia message service (MMS) is a messaging service very similar to Short message service (SMS). It provides asynchronous deliv ery of personal multi media messa ges from between phone and phone, phone and e- mail, phone and web(by URL).
Messages 96 Notes : • while retrieving a new message, you cannot acces s WAP sites, and cannot also enter the Downloads menu (see page 125). • T o clear the new message notifi cation on the display , press the key .
Messages 97 Notes : • Y ou can only receive up to 150 messages. • Multime dia messa ge box es, Camera, and Media b ox share a given amount of memory in your ph one. Y ou can also use the Delete or Delete all option to delete some sounds or images in the Came ra or Media box.
Messages 98 Picture (continued) 3. Select one of the pictures you want to add. The picture is display ed. 4. Press the Add soft key . T o add a picture in the Media box ; 1. Select one of the picture categories. The picture li st of the category is displayed .
Messages 99 2. Press the Opt. soft k ey to u se the followi ng o p t i o n s . • Preview : shows your mes sage as it wi ll display on t he recipient’ s phone. T o go back to the message screen, press the Edit soft key . T o send the message, press the Send soft key and go to step 4.
Messages 100 • Add page : allows you to add up to 10 pages. Y ou can move to each page us ing the Left or Right key on the me ssage screen. • Page timing : allows you to set how long one page of the received messages displa ys. After the specified t ime, the displa y automatically scrolls to the next page.
Messages 101 Note : T o clear all of your input, press, or press and hold the C key . When you have no t enter ed any text, pressing and holding the C key wi ll return the disp lay to the pr evious scre en. 5. T o send the message to up to 20 destinations, repeat step 4.
Messages 102 T o scroll through the mess age contents, press the Up or Do wn key . When th e message has mor e than one page, yo u can press the Left or Right key to move through the pages or a predefined page timer will move through the message automatically .
Messages 103 Outbox Outbox stores messages that y ou have sent, you failed to send and you cancelled sending. When the Outbox menu option is selected, the list of messages you have sent or sav ed displays with the: • message’s subject or No subject if the message has no subject.
Messages 104 Y ou can choose the following options by pressing the Opt. soft key: Delete : deletes the message. Replay : replays the me ssage. Send : sends the message. Properties : shows you the detailed information about the message. Move to My folder : mov es the message to the My folder for later u se.
Messages 105 My folder Y ou can move the m e ssages stored in the Inbo x or Outbox to the My folder b y using the Move to My folde r option. While making a new message, you can also save it to My folder by using the Save message option. T o view a message, scroll to it and pres s the Selec t soft key .
Messages 106 2. If necessary , repeat step 1 to check another box. 3. When you hav e finished checking, press the OK soft key . 4. When a confirming message appears, press the Yes soft key to delete all of the m essages in the box(es). Otherwise, press th e No soft key .
Messages 107 1. Scroll to a message o r an empty entry by pressing the Up or Down key . 2. Press the Select soft key and enter a new message or change the old m essage. For further d etails about entering char acters, see page 41. 3. Press the OK soft key to save the me ssage.
Messages 108 Edit number : enter a voice mail serv er number or press the Phonebook soft key to enter a number from Phonebook. And then press the OK soft key . Change name : enter a server name and press the OK soft key to sa ve it. Delete : when the confirming message appears, press the Yes soft key .
Messages 109 Record my greeting : Y ou can record the message to guide. T o stop recording before the t ime is up, press the Stop soft key .
