7 1 Introduction How to Use this Manual This manual describes the operation of the Ag ilent 14761A Harm onic/Flicker Test System (HFTS) software when used in conjunction with the Agilent 6800-Series AC Power Source/Analy zers. Its primary function is as a reference manual.
1 - Introduction 8 The A gilent 6800-Series A C Pow er Source/A naly zers The Agilent 6800- Series AC Power Source/Analyzers are specifically designed for testing products compliant to the I EC low- frequency em issions regulations for quasi- stationary current harmonics, fluctuating current harm onics, and voltag e fluctuations and flicker.
Introduction - 1 9 EN 61000-3-2 and EN 60555 Part 2 Regulations EN 61000-3- 2 and EN 60555 Part 2 regulate the m agnitude of harm onic currents drawn by products from the ac line. For exam ple, harmonic currents can occur as a result of hig h peak currents drawn by switch- mode power supplies.
1 - Introduction 10 EN 61000-3-3 Regulation EN 61000-3- 3 regulates the m agnitude, rate, and tim e-duration of voltage fluctuations and f licker caused by products connected to the ac line. Voltag e fluctuations are created by time- vary ing current drains working against branch circuit impedance that exists in all power distribution network s.
11 2 Installation Install the Softw are NOTE: A README.TXT file is included on the installation disks. I t contains product updates or corrections that are not documented in this m anual. Use any text editor to read this file. The Agilent 14761A HFTS software (p/n 5063-2363) com es on two disks.
2 - Installation 12 Installing Interface Card Drivers for Windows 3.1 or 3.11 Sy stems ñ If y ou are using an Agilent 82335 GPI B card, install the driv er software from the I /O Libraries CD-R OM (E2094) that came with the card. Open the win31 disk1 directory on the CD- ROM and run setup.
Installation - 2 13 icon to run the software.) When the software is run, it autom atically searches for an interface card and queries the Agilent 6800- Series AC Power Source/Analyzer for its m odel number. Verify that your configuration is correct as follows: 1.

Running the Tes t - 4 33 value of the wav eform by a one- shot rm s current value obtained from the wav eform data record. The quality of this m easurement is a function of the v ariability of the current waveform crest factor over the integ ration period used for the corresponding rms current m easurem ent.
4 - Running the Tes t 34 3. Select Perform post processing automatically at end of test execution to process test data imm ediately after the com pletion of the test. Post processing is required to g enerate test reports and to generate data for the Statistics and Probability displays.
Running the Tes t - 4 35 Manual On/A uto Off (see caution) The ON pushbutton is activ e, letting the operator m anually turn the output of the Agilent 6800- Series AC Power Source/Analyz er on from the Test window. The pictured control indicates that the output is presently off.
4 - Running the Tes t 36 Validation Mode Validation Mode is a special mode used to v alidate the software, hardware, and test method used to test to the harmonic current em issions regulation. I t is not intended to be a formal proof of perform ance. Validation Mode should only be used with the Quasi- Stationary Harm onics test type selected.
37 5 View ing Test Data During test runs, data is continuously acquired and displayed in the various Display windows. Use the menu tabs on the bottom of the screen or the View menu to access the v arious displays.
5 - Viewing Test Data 38 Search Parameters This control is only active when the display is set to Fixed. It puts up a dialog box that lets you search for specific item s in the test data that you are presently viewing. Click ing on the red button initiates a search backward in tim e from the present cursor location.
Viewing Test Data - 5 39 The Graph display presents the following test data in a graphical form at: ñ 40 harmonics including the fundam ental, along the X axis. ñ the harmonic magnitude along the Y axis in absolute v alues. 5 - Viewing Test Data 50 Light g reen indicates that the maxim um v alue is within the regulation’s specification. Light red indicates that one or more m easured values are outside the reg ulation’s specification. The maxim um component percentiles are alway s light green, since no failure criteria is specified for these by the reg ulation.
Viewing Test Data - 5 51 The Probability display presents the following test data: ñ the magnitude of flicker perceptibility along the X axis (Pst = 1 is the threshold of irritability ). The value is the flicker perceptibility level that is exceeded for x% of the sam ples as indicated by the corresponding Y- axis values.
5 - Viewing Test Data 52 Distribution Display The Distribution display presents a sum mary of the Voltage fluctuations and Flicker test data. When the test is running, the Distribution display is updated at the completion of each integ ration period. Note that the amount of test data display ed may be limited by the Span control.
Viewing Test Data - 5 53 ñ the Rms Measurement area on the bottom of the screen provides a sum mary value of Dmax , Dc , and Dt voltage fluctuation failures. Sum mary values are the maxim um value for each type within the presently displayed integ ration period.
5 - Viewing Test Data 54 A green bar m eans that all values sum mariz ed by the bar are within the reg ulation’s specification. A red bar means that one or m ore values sum mariz ed by the bar are outside the regulation’s specification. ñ detailed rms information can be obtained by holding down the Shift key and double- clicking on a bar.
Viewing Test Data - 5 55 The Flicker display presents the follow ing data: ñ the total time of the selected rang e along the X axis. ñ the magnitude of flicker perceptibility units along the Y axis.
5 - Viewing Test Data 56 Editing the Graph A ttributes To change the attributes or the settings of a ny of the graphs, ñ Click w ith the right mouse button on any area of the g raph. This puts up the Edit Graph Attributes dialog box. From this dialog box y ou can select: ñ the Maximum v alues of the x and the y axes.
Viewing Test Data - 5 57 Copying Graphs and Tables to the Clipboard Using the Print Screen key board key The easiest way to put screen inform ation into the clipboard is to use the Print Screen keyb oa rd key. This puts all of the information that is display ed on the screen into the Clipboard.
5 - Viewing Test Data 58 View ing Reports Reports are available in either Short form or Long form , and can be previewed in the Report window. User remarks can be added to a test file by selecting the Rema rks menu tab. Menu tabs on the bottom of the screen let you quickly access each area.
Viewing Test Data - 5 59 Short For m Report The Short Form report includes summ ary information about the current test. This inform ation fits on one page.
