P-660HWP-Dx User’s Guide 35 C HAPTER 6 LAN Setup This chapter describes how to configure LAN settings. 6.1 LAN Overview A Local Area Network (LAN) is a shared comm unication system to which many computers are attached. A LAN is a computer network lim ited to the immediate area, usually the same building or floor of a building.
Chapter 6 LAN Setup P-660HWP-Dx U ser’s Guide 36 6.1.2 DHCP Setup DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol , RFC 2131 and RFC 2132) allows individual clients to obtain TCP/IP configuration at start-up from a se rver . Y ou can configure the P- 660HWP-Dx as a DHCP server or disable it.

If you belong to a small or ga nization and your Internet access is through an ISP , the ISP can provide you with the Internet addresses for y our local networks.
