Intr oduction Thank you f or choosing the Wi P A TH TM SX7 as your wireless data connection solution. The SX7T V oice/F ax/Data T er minal and the SX7M Modem each provide high-speed wireless W AN conn.
SX7 Connections: An Over view Set Up Y our SX7 1. Install the Rechar geable Battery Pac k into the batter y compar tment. Remov e the batter y compar tment door .
2. Connect and hand-tighten the TNC Antennas . Once they are installed, orient the antennas so they point upw ard (ver tical or ientation). This is the typical desktop application.
3. Connect the P ower Supply Adapter to the unit’ s P ower Input and connect the P ower Line Cord to the P ower Supply Adapter . Then, connect the P ow er Supply Adapter plug into a pow er outlet.
5. Connect the Ethernet (RJ-45) cable to the Ethernet P or t on the SX7. (This cable will ser ve as the connection to y our computer in most configurations, including the primar y Wireless W AN data connection.) 7. Depending on your usage needs , connect RJ-11 phone cables to the Phone (J1) and Phone/F ax (J2) por ts (SX7T only) .
P ower Up the SX7 1. With the Ether net cable connected to both your computer and the SX7, ensure that y our SX7 is off , and pow er up your computer . 2. Slide the P ow er Switch from r ight to left to pow er up your SX7. 3. W ait a fe w minutes f or the SX7 to initialize .
Using the T elular Device Manager The T elular Device Manager will allow y ou to configure all your connections, vie w your status, and manage all your connection options in one place . 1. Connect to the T elular Device Manager . Launch your Web bro wser (Inter net Explorer or FireF o x).
2. On the Home screen (see below) , y ou will see the unit’ s Model number , the Time, and your Wireless W AN connection status. 3. Click an item in the column on the left (1) to displa y a Main Menu subject screen (such as Setup , below).
Activ ating Y our Wireless Services on the SX7 Bef ore you can set up a data connection, y ou will need to enter your account activ ation inf or mation in the T elular De vice Manager . 1. Connect to the T elular Device Manager . (See “Using the T elular Device Manager” on page 6.
Setting Up Y our Wireless W AN Data Connection Once the computer and the SX7 are connected and pow ered up , you will need to set up y our Wireless W AN data connection. The Wireless W AN connection is the pr imar y data service connection f or your SX7.
6. T o confir m your data connection, clic k Status (1) . The Status > Router page will auto-refresh e v er y fe w seconds. Y our W AN address from your wireless service provider will be displa yed ne xt to W AN IP Address (3) . 7. Close the browser windo w , reopen it, and go to a website (such as www .
Status LEDs In addition to checking y our status through the T elular Device Manager on y our computer , you can also use the LED indicators on the unit f or a quick chec k of valuab le connection and cov erage inf or mation.
Using the USB Connection Option The pref erred method f or establishing a data connection with the SX7 is through the Ethernet P or t (see “Connect the SX7 to Y our Computer” on page 4). Howe ver , you ma y also use the supplied USB cable instead of the Ethernet connection.

With your computer and the SX7 po wered on, connect the ter minal end of the USB cable to the USB T ype B P or t on the SX7. 2. Connect the other end of the USB cable to an a vailab le pow ered USB T ype A por t on your computer .
On the Select a Device screen, select Modem - SX7 USB Modem and deselect an y other hardware listed. On the Connection Name screen, enter a name f or the connection (such as SX7 USB Modem ). On the Phone Number to Dial screen, enter *telular* (with asterisks).
4. The Connect dialog will open. Click Pr oper ties > Options . Uncheck Pr ompt for phone number and Pr ompt for name and pass wor d, certificate , etc. . Set Time between redial attempts to 10 seconds and click OK . 5. Y our computer will dial the new connection.
Using the V oice and Fax Options (SX7T Onl y) The Wi P A TH SX7T V oice/F ax/Data ter minal lets you use y our wireless ser vice provider f or v oice calling and f axing (similar to standard PSTN telephone operation) in addition to using the Wireless W AN data features .
Using the F ax Function on Y our SX7T 1. T o use your SX7T’ s f ax f eature, y ou will first need to set up your de vice to suppor t f ax data. The T elular De vice Manager allows y ou to configure the necessar y settings . F rom your W eb browser , launch the T elular Device Manager .
F or RJ-11 Jack Mode (4) select the appropriate combination of J1 V oice, J2 V oice or J2 F AX, J2 Data . Click Sa ve (5) , and then click Restart (6) to sav e your settings and restar t the SX7T . 2. Plug an RJ-11 cable into the Phone/F ax input on the back panel.
V oice/Fax Pr ogramming The T elular Device Manager allows y ou to program all the v oice and f ax options f or ser vice on your SX7T . 1. F rom your W eb browser , launch the T elular Device Manager . (See “Using the T elular Device Mana ger” on page 6.
Basic (cont.) RJ-11 Jack Mode Select a configuration f or the Phone jack (J1) and the F ax jack (J2): J1 V oice , J2 V oice to set both jacks f or voice calls only (def ault setting). J1 V oice , J2 F AX to set the phone jack f or voice calls and the f ax jack to send and receiv e fax data.
Tip Y ou can also program certain voice and f ax options for y our device using PO TS (Plain Old T elephone Set) commands on your phone. Note Y our SX7T also allows Circuit Switched Data (2G) access across the CDMA netw ork via the RJ-11 connections on the unit.
Ad v anced Data Connection Options The f ollowing pages outline all the adv anced programming options and settings a v ailable through the T elular Device Manager interf ace. F or inf or mation about accessing and using the T elular De vice Manager , please see “Using the T elular Device Manager” on page 6.
DHCP Settings DHCP Server (Ethernet only) : Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol. Select Enable to allow the unit to receiv e IP address, subnet mask, def ault gate wa y , and other settings dynamically through a ser ver . Number of DHCP Users: Maxim um number of connections allow ed.
Setup > Keep Alive Keep Alive lets y ou prev ent the wireless networ k from closing your data connection during e xtended periods of inactivity by ha ving the unit ping a DNS address at set inter vals . Keep Alive: Select Enab le to enable this f eature.
Setup > DDNS DDNS (Dynamic Domain Name Ser ver) settings allo w the SX7 to be accessed via the Inter net e v en when dynamic IP addresses are being assigned. DDNS allows a static domain name to be used in place of the unit’ s IP address. DDNS Service: Select a DDNS ser ver option (such as T elular ) or select Off to disable .
Activ ation Options The Activation settings ma y be preconfigured by y our wireless provider . ESN: This is your unit’ s Electronic Serial Number . It is generated inter nally and cannot be changed. Activation Status: This reflects your wireless account activ ation status.
Netw ork Options Netw ork > Routing Routing settings allow y ou to control the unit’ s network routing configuration. There are two primar y options av ailab le, b y selecting a W orking Mode (1) : Gatewa y (NA T on) and Router (NA T off) .
Router (NA T off): (Def ault setting) In addition to the options av ailable under Gate wa y mode, Router mode off ers the f ollowing options: ● Dynamic Routing (RIP): Select Enable to use Dynamic RIP (Routing Inf or mation Protocol) to adjust to changing network environments .
Netw ork > Firewall/Filter s The Firewall/Filter s settings allow y ou to customize the f ollowing access settings f or the SX7 on your netw ork. Firewall (SPI): Select Enab le to use the SPI (Stateful P ack et Inspection) firew all to monitor network connections and reject any that do not match its criteria.
Netw ork > P or t Forwarding This screen allows y ou to enter an Application Name , P or t Extension range, select TCP or UDP protocols (or both), and complete an IP Address f or up to 10 f orwarded por ts.
Administration Options Admin > Management The Administration > Management screen allows y ou to change the follo wing settings. Device Mana ger User Name: For security pur poses, y ou ma y want to change y our user name f or the T elular De vice Manager from the def ault (telular) .
Admin > F actory Defaults Click Restore Defaults to reset all the de vice settings to the f actor y default settings . Any settings you ha ve customiz ed through the T elular De vice Manager will be reset.
Status Options The screens av ailable under the Status men u provide inf or mation about your unit. The fields in the Status screens cannot be edited directly , but they ma y be changed as a result of other settings you select using the T elular De vice Manager .
Radio Service T ype: This displa ys y our current data ser vice type (such as EVDO D A T A fo r full EVDO ser vice or 1X D A T A for 1xR TT CDMA data ser vice).
