[ 5 ] 2 • FIND INFORMATION ABOUT YOUR PHONE When you ca ll Nokia Customer Service or your service prov ider, you will need to provid e specific information about your phone. This info r matio n is record ed on the phone’s type la bel .
2 [ 6 ] Contac t your s ervic e provi der You may want to save your service provide r’s customer support telephone number into your phone . T his will le t you easily c ontact your provider if you have ques tions or issues with your phone service.
[ 7 ] 2 HOW THE LOOPSET WORKS The LPS-3 L oopset uses induct ive technology to transmit sound to a hearing aid equipped with a T-coil. The sound from the phon e is amplified more efficiently and back ground noise is eliminated. The loopset is eas y to use.
3 [ 8 ] 3 Pho ne set up • I NSTALL THE BATTERY Before you ca n use your phone, you must install and c harge the battery. Remove th e back cover 1 Press the tab at the botto m of the phone’s back cov er .
[ 9 ] 3 • C HARGE THE BATTERY Charge the new b at tery for three hours before using the p hone. Use the phone until the battery is fully discharged. You s hould do this for a total of three charging cycle s. 1 With your phone turned off, connect the lead from the charger to the bottom of the phone.
4 [ 1 0 ] 4 Pho ne bas ics This section give s a brief introduction to the phone a nd s hows quick steps for making, answering, and managing your calls.
[ 1 1 ] 4 • AB OUT THE ANTENNA Your phone has a built-in antenna. As with any other radi o t ransmitting dev ice , do not touch the antenna unneces sarily when the phon e is switche d on.
4 [ 12 ] • L EARN TH E KEYS Key What it does Po w er : Press and hold this key to switch the phone on or off. Also, briefly press this key to display a list of profiles. For more information, see “Profiles” on page 53. Selection: Your phone has one selection ke y with a right a nd a left arrow.
[ 13 ] 4 Start screen When you turn on your phone , a Nokia welcome and the Start screen ap pears. The Start screen is the “home base ” for your phone. Press to re turn to the St art screen fro m any other screen.
4 [ 14 ] • NAVIGATION KEYS Selectio n keys The selec t ion key allows you to select various phone options . At the bottom of the Start scre en , two options appear: Menu and Names . The selection key is located just below these options. The left portion of the selection k ey is located under Me nu .
[ 15 ] 4 Icons are graphical representations of a specific ite m or situation. For example , an icon appears when you have a voice mes sage in your mailbox. Indicators 1 Signa l stre ngth – shows the signal strength of the wire less ne twork at your current location.
4 [ 16 ] Digital service is ava ilable. Standard tex t input mode for ente ring alph a c hara cters. Press t o switch betw een uppercase and lowerc ase input. Predictive text mode for quickly e ntering text mes sages. Press to switch between up percase and lowercase input.
[ 17 ] 5 5 Making an d an swering calls Adjust th e earpiece vo lume You can ad just the earpiece volume during a call, or at any time , by pressing the vol ume key located on the upper le ft side of the phone.
5 [ 18 ] Use caller I D When C aller ID is active, your phone shows the caller’s phone number during an incomin g call. Not e: Caller ID is a network dependent feature. Contact your service provide r for more information on this feature. The wire less network lets you know if it doesn’t recognize the calling number.
[ 19 ] 6 6 Phone me nu s • NAVIGATE MENUS Your phone has 8 main menus . Each main menu contains various submenus that allow y ou to customize various features of your phone and phone book . You can get to thes e menus and submenus by scrolling or by using shortcuts .

7 [ 22 ] 7 Entering le tters and numbers There are two ways to enter letters and numbers into your phone: • Standard text input for making entries in the phone book, ent ering calendar notes, and renaming caller groups. • Predictive text input for writing text messages, picture messages, and e-mails.

7 [ 24 ] To switch bac k to capital letters again, press . USE PUNCTUATION AND SPECIAL CHARACTERS In the ABC mode , you can enter spec ial characters by pressing and holding .
[ 25 ] 7 Create Spe cial Numb er Stri ngs in 123 Mo de Your phone allows you to create s pecial s ets of numbers known as strings which will dial a series of digits after a “wait” or a “ pause.
8 [ 26 ] 8 Phone book • ABOUT T H E PHONE BOOK The phone book can store up to 250 names , associated phone numbe rs and e-mail addresses . Stored names can be up to 22 characters, numbers can be up to 28 characters and e-mail addresses can each be up to 50 char acters.
[ 27 ] 8 Note: There are no shortcuts for accessing the menus and submenus under Names . View ing y our ph one bo ok You can v iew your phone book in t hree different ways: 1 Name list. Shows a ll t he names that ar e stored in y our phone book.
8 [ 28 ] • ADD NA MES AND N U MB ERS 1 Press Names and scroll to Add new . Pr ess Select . 2 Using the keypad , enter t he name a nd press OK . 3 Enter the phone number and pres s OK . You also ca n also enter numbers int o your pho ne book by us ing a shortcut.
[ 29 ] 8 7 Press OK . The asso ciated number appears. 8 Edit the number if needed and p ress OK to s ave the new number . Tip: Use the scroll key to move within the digits in the number or the letters in the name.
8 [ 30 ] • CHECK MEMORY STATUS You can check to see the status of the available memory loc ations in your dire ctory. 1 Press Names and scroll to Options . 2 Press Select . 3 Scroll to Memory status . Press Select . A message appears, Phone: xx free, xx in use indicating the number of memory loc ations (phone entries) available and in use.
[ 3 1 ] 9 9 Voi ce ma il Voice m ail is a network service that allows callers to record a message to your phone’s vo ice mailbox if you are not availab le. You can call your voice mailbox a nd retrieve your messages at a later time.

[ 33 ] 10 10 Call log The call log keeps track of: • Missed calls • Received c alls • Dialed calls • Call timers • CALL LOG OPTIO NS 1 Press Menu 2 (Menu > Call Log.
10 [ 34 ] Tip: Y ou can save numbe rs from the missed, dialed or received cal l logs by pressing O ptions > Save . You also can dial any numbers that appe ar on the phone screen by pr essing . Check m issed call s If you do not answer a c all, the message Missed calls appe ars on your phone’s s creen, along wi th the number of calls misse d.
[ 35 ] 10 From the Start screen, press for a list of the last ten numbers dialed from the pho ne. 2 Press or to scroll through the list. 3 Press if you want to dial the number . Chec k receiv ed cal ls Your phone s tores the last 10 numbers associated w ith calls that you have answered.
10 [ 36 ] • CHE CK CALL TIM ERS Your phone tracks the amount of time you spend on each call. T o obtain information about time spent on ph one calls: 1 Press M enu 2 -5 (Menu > Call log > Call timers) .
[ 37 ] 10 Clear call timers 1 Press Menu 2-5- 5 (Menu > Call log > Call timers > Clear timers) . 2 At t h e Secu rity code promp t, ent er your f ive -digit s ecurity code and press OK . Caution: The Clear t imers option cannot be undone.
11 [ 38 ] 11 Advanced cal ling features • USE IN-CALL OPT IONS Your phone allow s you to use a number of features during a call; howe ver, you may not be able to use all options at all times. This section explains the options and when they can be used.
[ 39 ] 11 •U S E C A L L W A I T I N G During a call, ca ll waiting beeps to let you know that someone els e is calling you. Depend ing on your caller ID setup, the phone might also display the number of the inc oming call.
11 [ 40 ] Make a conference call While in a call, you can call another number to add a third party to the call. Not e: Conference calling is a provide r dependent feature. Contact your service provider for availabi lity and details. 1 While in a call, you c an either dial the number you want to add and press .
[ 4 1 ] 11 • CALL FORWARDI NG With call forwarding , yo u can forward incoming calls to another pho ne number. Before yo u can use call forwarding, you must first store its feature c ode.
11 [ 42 ] 4 Select Ac tivate . 5 At th e Number prompt , e ither enter the number to receive forwa rded calls or press Search to find a number that has been saved in your phone book. Pres s OK . Your phone ca lls the network to confirm the feature code that you entered.
[ 43 ] 11 • AUTOMATIC REDIAL Automatic red ial enables your phone to c ontinue trying to call a numbe r that is busy due to wirel es s network problems .
11 [ 44 ] 6 Input the necessary card information s uch as access number , card number and PIN number . 7 Once you finish entering the information, press OK at the Save changes? message. 8 Scroll up or down to Ca rd Na me and pr ess Select . 9 Enter t he card name and press OK .
[ 45 ] 11 Make a call using a calli ng card 1 Following the instructions on yo ur calling card, enter the phone number as well as any r equired prefix s uch as 1 or 0. 2 Press and hold until your phone dis plays the message Card c all and shows W ait fo r tone .
11 [ 46 ] Store the Send Own Number feature code 1 Press Menu > Settings > Network services > Network feature se tting . 2 At t he Feature code prompt, enter the feature code your service provider giv es you and press OK . 3 Scroll to Send own number and press Select .
[ 47 ] 11 Sel ect the pho ne number 1 Press Menu > Settings > Network services and press Select . 2 Scroll to Own number selection and pres s Sele ct . 3 Scroll to the phone number you w ant t o use a nd press OK .
11 [ 48 ] Store t ouch ton e sequences (strings) You store touch tone s trings the same way that you s tore names and numbers in your phone book. You can store an entire digit sequenc e and send it as touch tones for freq uently used strings of numbers.
[ 49 ] 12 12 Personalization • PROFILES Profiles let you set your phone’s sound s ettin gs to match your environment, w hether i t’ s a m ee tin g o r a so cce r g am e. Just pick the profi le tha t s uits you r current environment: Normal, Silent, Outdoor , Meeting or P ager .
12 [ 50 ] You can return to the original settings at any t ime by selec ting the Nor mal profile. • CUSTOMIZE A PROFI LE 1 Press Menu 3 (Menu > Profiles) . 2 Scroll to the desired profile in the list. 3 Press Options to view the opt ions for the selected profile.
[ 5 1 ] 12 3 Scroll to Customize and press OK . 4 Scroll to Ringing options and press Select . 5 Scroll to one of the ringing options listed bel ow and press OK . Set the ringing v olume You can set the ringing volume for incoming voice calls and message alert tones.
12 [ 52 ] to u se, press OK . Note: Although the sample ringing tone for le vel 4 and level 5 is the same, level 5 produc es very loud ringing. Set the ringing t one You can set your phone ’s ringing tone to a sp ecific sound—or tune—for incoming v oice calls.
[ 53 ] 12 Set keypad tones Keypad tones are the sounds you hear when you pre ss your phone’s keys. You can set th e volume for those tones. 1 Press Menu 3 (Menu > Profiles) . 2 Scroll to the profile for which you want to set the keypad tone s, and press Options .
12 [ 54 ] 2 Scroll to the p rofile for which you want to set the message alert tone, and press O ptions . 3 Scroll to Customize and press OK . 4 Scroll to Message alert tone and p ress Select . 5 Scroll through the choices. T he phone plays a samp le of each choice as you scroll to it.

12 [ 56 ] 3 The time is set when you pres s OK . Select the time format You c an choose wh ether your clock shows time in an am/pm format or a 24-hour format. 1 Press M enu 4-2-1-3 (Menu > Settings > Time settings > Clock > Time format) . 2 Scroll to 24-hour or am/pm and pr ess OK .
[ 57 ] 12 T urn off au tomatic update of date and time When you turn off th e date and time update , the phone uses the date and time that you have manually e ntered instead of getting the information from the network.
12 [ 58 ] • AD D A WELCOME NOTE You can set your phone to display a w elcome note each time you sw itch on your phone. This note could say, for ex ample: Have a nice day ! It could include y our name, a reminder or more. The maximum length o f this note is 36 characters .
[ 59 ] 12 3 Scroll to the name and nu mber to which y ou want to assign this key and press Sele ct . Repeat these steps as many t imes a s necessary . 4 To call a number using 1-touch dialing, press and hold the appropriate key f or a few seco nds.
12 [ 60 ] Add n ames to a caller group Before you c an create a caller group, you mu s t include the na mes that will make up a caller group in your phone book. 1 At t he Start screen , p r ess until you see the na me or number you want to assign to a caller group.
[ 6 1 ] 12 3 Scroll to Caller groups and press OK . 4 On the ne xt screen, pres s Mark to ch oose (or Unmar k t o eliminate) the caller group that wi ll be allowed to ring when that particu lar Profile is chose n.
12 [ 62 ] Receiv e a dow nload ed grap hic If you have this se r vice, your phone may receive a dditional downloaded caller-group graphics . Contact your service provider t o get more information on this service. View the new graphic 1 When your phone shows Group graphic received , pres s Options .
[ 63 ] 13 13 Security • TYPES OF SEC U RITY Your phone has four differe nt types of security to protect aga inst accide nt al or unauthorized use. When you get y our phone, y ou should change the access cod e and security code from their defa ult settings.
13 [ 64 ] • K EYPAD L OCK The k eypad lock disables y our keypad to prevent accide ntal key presses (for example, when your phone is in your poc ket or purse) but it does not prevent unauthorized use of your pho ne .
[ 65 ] 13 Change your sec urity c ode 1 Press Menu 4- 5-2-4 (Menu > Settings > Security s ettings > Access codes > Change security code) . 2 At t he Security code prompt, enter your five-digit default security code (12345) or your current security code and pres s OK .

13 [ 68 ] • R ESTRICT C ALLS You can create your own list of restrictions t o restrict incoming and outgoing calls . To restrict the calls, you apply the ap propriate restriction as desired. The maximum num ber of call restrictions you can define is ten.

14 [ 7 0 ] 14 Ne twork services Depending on your service provider, the network- provided services shown below ma y be available. (These services may not be available from all providers or i n all areas.
[ 7 1 ] 15 15 Select a sys tem Your phone is capable of working in residential, private, and public systems (such as your home system ). You can choose how y our phone selects a netw ork to use. Note: T he options des cribed here may not be available for your phone.
15 [ 72 ] •R O A M I N G The term roaming indicates that your phone is not in its home a rea. Your service provid er pr ograms a list of preferred systems into your pho ne. These are s ystems with which your service provid er has roaming agreements.
[ 73 ] 16 16 Text message inp ut The text message network service allows you to write, send, forward and reply to tex t messages . Your pho ne has spac e to store up to 40 text message s, depending on the length of each me s sage .
16 [ 74 ] •PREDICT IVE TEXT INPUT With predictive text input, you only need to press a number key once for each lett er. Your pho ne uses a built-in d ictionary to predict or guess what your are writing. You a lso can add ne w words to the dictionary.
[ 75 ] 16 T urn off p redictive text input To switch off the predictive text input and re turn to traditional text input, repeat steps 1 through 3 abov e and select Dictionary off .
16 [ 76 ] WRI TE COMPOU ND WORDS 1 Write the first part of t he word an d press t o accept it. 2 Write the la st part of the compound word and p ress to e nter the word in your phone’s memory . ADD A NE W WORD T O THE D ICTIONAR Y If the ? characte r appears aft er the word , the word y ou intended to write is not in the phone’s dictionary .
[ 77 ] 17 17 Text messages • RECEIVE A TEXT MESS AGE When you receive a text message , the phone s ounds a me ssage alert tone and the tex t messa ge icon appears in addition to one of the following mes sa ges : • Message receiv ed – an unread message or page.
17 [ 78 ] Choose o ptions for a te xt message When you press Options while reading a mes sage, the following cho ices are availa ble: Erase a message 1 While reading a message , press Options . 2 Scroll to Erase and press OK . 3 Y our phone a sks yo u to confirm that you want to eras e the messa ge.
[ 79 ] 17 Save messa ges in the outbox After you w rite a text message, it’s a g ood idea to save it in the outbox before you send it. T hen, if there is a message delivery proble m, you can easily rese nd the message.
17 [ 80 ] • SEND TEXT MESSA GES You can specify whether your phone sends messages as text messages or e-mail message s. To send a text message: 1 Press Menu 1 -1-1 (M enu > Mes sages > Text me ssages > Write message) . 2 Enter your message of up to 160 characters and p r ess Options .
[ 8 1 ] 17 • SEND PI CTU RE MESSAGE S 1 Press Menu 1 -2 (Menu > Message s > Picture Message s) . 2 Scroll to the picture you want to send. Press Show . The pict ur e appea rs. To choos e a differen t picture, press Back , scroll to another pict ure and press Select .
18 [ 82 ] 18 E-mail me ssages In addition to text messages , you can use your phone to send and rece ive e-mail messa ges . This me ans you no longer need to be at your computer to send or receive e-mail. Note: E-ma il messages may not be available in all wireless systems.
[ 83 ] 18 scroll to Send . Pre ss OK to send immediately . If your message was sent successfully, you will get a confirmation saying Message Sent .
18 [ 84 ] 3 Y ou have the following Options wh ile reading your e-mail mes s age: 4 Scro ll to the opti on you want. Pres s OK . In your inbox, e-mail messages are shown in the order in w hich they were received unles s one is an emerge ncy message. An emergenc y message overr ides any order a nd appears first.
[ 85 ] 18 2 Scroll to the message yo u r eceiv ed and press Re ad . 3 Press Options , scroll to Forwa rd or Reply and press OK . 4 Scroll to As e-mail and pres s Select . If forwarding an e-mail mes sage, go on to step 5.
18 [ 86 ] The mess age Saved appears briefly , co nf irming your action. Add a n ew e-mail add ress 1 At t he Sta rt screen , press Names , scroll to Add new and press Select . 2 At t he Na me prompt, enter the name and press OK . 3 At t he Nu mbe r prompt, enter the phone number and press OK .
[ 87 ] 19 19 Personal digital assi stant Your phone als o can be used to wake you up in the morning and remind you of meetings, birthdays , and tasks. You can check the c urrent time, calculate a ti p at dinner and convert currencies.
19 [ 88 ] Notes This calend ar option allows you to make, v iew and edit notes for a selected day . You can also set an alarm for any note. MAKE NO TE With this option, you can make notes for Birthdays , Reminders, Calls a nd Meetings. Your phone w ill ask you for s peci fic information depending on the opti on you choose.
[ 89 ] 19 VIEW ALL NOTES This option lets you scroll through all stored notes . Birthday notes appear first in chronological order, followed by other notes, also in chronologica l or der.
19 [ 90 ] Send or receive c alendar notes When someone s ends you a calendar n ote , your p hone dis plays Calendar note received . You c an s ave the note in your calendar and wo rk with it in the same way a s any other note in your calendar, including s ett ing an ala rm.
[ 9 1 ] 19 • SEND AN D RECE IVE BUS INE SS CA R DS Your phone ca n send or receive electronic “business cards” consisting of a name and phone numbe r. You can save received busi ness cards in your phone book .
19 [ 92 ] Delete a viewed busi ness card After viewing the busines s card: Press Bac k and t hen pr ess Exit . OR Press Disc ard and then press OK . • DOWNLOAD R INGING TONES You can download up to five ringing tones to replace the personal entries in your list of ringing tones.
[ 93 ] 19 •A L A R M C L O C K The ala r m clock operates off your phone’s internal clock and s ounds an alert at a time you specify. It even works if your phone is t urned off.
19 [ 94 ] If the phone is turned off, it will switch i t self on at alarm time and the alarm will sound. If you p ress Stop , the phone display s Keep the phone on? Pres s Ye s t o keep it on o r No to switch it off. If you let the alarm ring for 1 minute or more without pressing a key , it stops ringing, waits 10 minutes and rings again.
[ 95 ] 19 4 Enter the second number in the calculation. 5 Press Options . Scroll to Equals and press OK .
