[ 4 ] 1 Contacting Nokia To help Nokia promptly answer your questions, please have your phone’s model number , IMEI number , and your postal code ready when you call Customer Care. The IMEI and model number are o n the back of your phone under the battery .
[ 5 ] General information 2 2 General information Congratulations on purchasing your Nokia 3600 series mobile phone. Y our phone provides many functions which are practical for d aily use, such as a digital camera, a video recorder , messaging, e-mail, a clock, an alarm clock, a calculator , and a calendar .
[ 6 ] 2 2 Find the SIM car d slot ( 3 ). Place the SIM card carefully into the slot. Make sure that the beveled corner on the SIM card faces the bottom of the phone and that the golden contact area on the card faces downw ard. 3 Slide the silver catch over the SIM card to secure it.
[ 7 ] General information 2 4 When the battery is fully charged, the bar s tops scr ollin g. D isc onne ct the char ger fr om the AC outlet and then f rom the phone. Se e also “Battery statements” on page 154 in th e User Guide. Note: Remove the battery only when the phone is switch ed off.

[ 13 ] General information 2 •M E N U Press (M enu key) to open the main Menu. I n the Menu, you can access all the applications in your phone. Options in the M enu are: Open , List view / Grid view , Move , Move to folder , New folder , Hel p , an d Exit .
[ 14 ] 2 Rearrange the Menu Y ou can r earra nge the M enu in a ny or der you like. Y ou can move applications that you use more often from a folder to the Menu, and place applications you use less often in folders. Y ou can also create n ew folders. 1 Scroll to the item you want to m ove and select Options → Move .
[ 15 ] General information 2 • MOVE THE NAVIGATION BAR HORIZONTALLY In the navigation ba r , you can see: • small arrows or tabs which tell you if there ar e more views, fo lders, or files you can move to. • editing indicators, see “Write text” on page 72.
[ 16 ] 2 • Mark multip le items - Press and hold and at the same time move the scroll key down or u p. As the selection m oves, a check mark is placed next to the items. To end the selection, stop the scrolling with the scroll key and then release .
[ 17 ] General information 2 • V OLUME C ONTRO L When you have an active call or are listening to a sound, press or to increase or decrease the volume level, respectively .
[ 18 ] 2 • SHARED MEMORY The following features in your phone use shared memory: contacts, text, text messages, multimedia messages, images and ringing ton es, video recorder and player , calen dar and to-do notes, a nd downloaded applications. Using any of these features leaves less memory for other features.
[ 19 ] Y our phone 3 3 Y ou r phone • MAKE A CALL 1 Key in the phone number , inc luding the area code. P ress or to move the cursor . Press to remove a number .
[ 20 ] 3 Call your voice mailbox The voice mail box (system ser vice) is an answeri ng machine w here callers who are unab le to rea ch you c an leave yo u voice messa ges. • To call your voice mailbox, press and in standby mode. • If the phone asks for the voice mailbox number , key it in and press OK .
[ 2 1 ] Y our phone 3 1 Make a call to the first participant. 2 To m ake a call to a new participant, select Opti ons → New c all . Key in or search the memory for th e phone number of the participant a nd press OK . T he first call is automatically put on hold.
[ 22 ] 3 Tip: If you have activated the Call forward → If busy function to forward calls, for example, to your voice mailbox, rejecting an incoming call will also for ward the call. See “Settings for call forwarding” on pa ge 23. When a call com es in, press Mut e to quickly m ute the ringing tone.
[ 23 ] Y our phone 3 Tra n s fe r is used to conn ect a n incom ing c all or a call on hold with an acti ve call and to disconnect yourself from both calls. Send touc h tones is us ed to send touch tone strings, for example , passwords or bank account numbers.
[ 24 ] 3 Note: Y ou cannot have rejection of incoming calls and call fo rwarding active at the same time. See “C all rest rictio n (Sy stem serv ice) ” o n page 4 5.
[ 25 ] Y our phone 3 Missed calls and received calls To view a list of the last 20 phone numbers from which somebo dy has tried to call you without success (system service), go to Log → Recent calls → M issed calls . When you see a note in standby mode about missed calls, press Show to access the list of missed calls.
[ 26 ] 3 Call costs (system service) Go to Log → Call cos ts . Call costs allows you to check the cost of the last call or all c alls. The call costs are displayed separately for each SIM card.
[ 27 ] Y our phone 3 SET A CALL CO ST LIMIT FOR YOURSELF 1 Select Opti ons → Settings → Call c ost limit → On . 2 The phone requests you to e nter the limit in units. For this you may need the PIN2 code. Depen ding on the Sho w costs in settin g, en ter either the amount of charging u nits or currency .

[ 29 ] Settings 4 4 Setti ngs • C HANGE GENERAL SETTINGS Go to Menu → To o l s → Se ttings . 1 Scroll to a setting group and press to open it. 2 Scroll to a setting you want to change and press to • switch between options if there are only two ( On / Off ).
[ 30 ] 4 • Writing l anguage - Y ou ca n change the writing language of your phone permanen tly . Chan ging the language aff ects • the characters available when you press any key ( - ), • the predictive text dictionary used, and • the special characters that are available when you press the and keys.
[ 3 1 ] Settings 4 • Left selecti on key and Righ t selection key - You can change th e shortc uts that appear over the left and right selection keys in standby mode. In addition to the applications, you ca n have the shortcut point to a function, f or example, New message .
[ 32 ] 4 Call waiting: (system service) The system will notify you of a new incoming call wh ile you have a call in progress. Select Ac ti v at e to request the system to activate call w aiting, Cancel to request the system to deactivate call waiting, or Check status , to check if the function is active or not.

[ 34 ] 4 GSM D ATA CA LLS A GSM data call enables data transmission rates to a maximum of 14.4 kbps. For availability and subscr iption to data services, contac t your service provider .
[ 35 ] Settings 4 Minimum settings needed to make a packet data connection • Y ou need to s ubscribe to the GPRS service. For availability and subscription to GPRS, contact your service provider . •G o t o T ools → Settings → Connection → Access points and select Options → New a ccess point → Edit .
[ 36 ] 4 Edit an acc ess poin t When you open Access points, the list of already available access points opens. Scroll to the access point you want to edit, and press . [ 37 ] Settings 4 • Dial-up number (for GSM data and high speed da ta only) - The modem telephone number of the access point. • User name - Wri te a user name if required by the service provider . The user name may be needed to make a data connection, and is usually provided by the service provide r .
[ 38 ] 4 • Data call ty pe (for GSM data and high speed data only) - Analog , ISDN v .1 1 0 , or ISDN v .120 de fines whether the phone u ses an analog or digital connection.
[ 39 ] Settings 4 Note: Charges may apply for certain types of received calls, such as roaming and high speed data calls. Contact your GSM service pr ovider for more information. Note: The phone expects the callba ck call to use the same data call settin gs that were used in the callback-requesting call.
[ 40 ] 4 GPRS connection - I f you select When available and you are in a sys te m tha t supports pac ket data, th e phone r egisters to t he GPRS syst em and sendin g text messages will be don e via GPRS. Also, starting an active packet data connection, for example, to send and receive e-mail, is quicker .
[ 4 1 ] Settings 4 Phone and SIM Explanations for the different security codes that may be needed: • PIN cod e (4 to 8 digit s) - Th e PIN (P ersonal I dentifica tion Num ber) code protects your SIM card against unauthorized use. The PIN code is usually suppli ed with th e SIM card.
[ 42 ] 4 Autolo ck period - Y ou can set an autolock period, a time-out after which the phone is automatically locked an d can be used only if the correct lock code is entered. Key in a nu mber for the tim e-out in minutes or select None to turn off the autolock period.
[ 43 ] Settings 4 Confirm SIM s ervices - T o set the phone to display confirmation messages when you a re usi ng a SIM ca rd service. Certif. management Menu → To o l s → Setti ngs → Secu rit y → Cert. mana geme nt In the Certificate management main view , you can see a list of authority certificates that have been stored in your phone.
[ 44 ] 4 Viewin g cert ificat e de tails - che cking authen ticity Y ou can only be sure of th e correct identity of a br owser gateway or a server when the signature and the period of validity of a browser gateway or server certificate have been checked.
[ 45 ] Settings 4 Importan t: Before changing these settings, you must make su re that you really trust the owner of the certificate and that the certificate really belongs to the listed owner . • CALL RESTRICTION (SYSTEM SERVICE) Call restriction allows you to restrict the making and recei ving of calls with your phone.
[ 46 ] 4 Glossary: Roaming agreement - An agreement between two or more system service providers to enable th e users of one service provider to use th e services of other service providers.
[ 47 ] Contacts 5 5C o n t a c t s To open Contacts, press in standby mode or go to Me nu → Contacts . In Contacts, yo u can store and m anage contact information, such a s names, phone numbers, and addresse s. Contacts use share d memor y . See “Shared memory” on page 18.
[ 48 ] 5 • EDIT CONTAC T CARDS Options in the Contacts d irectory are: Open , Call , Cr eate message , New cont act , Edit , Delete , Duplicate , Add to group , Belo ng s to gr oups , Mark/Unmark , Send , Contacts info , Help , and Exit .
[ 49 ] Contacts 5 Insert a picture in a contact card There are two different types of pictures you can add to a cont act card. See “Camera and Images” on page 55 for mor e information on how to take and store pictures.
[ 50 ] 5 Example: Scroll to Phone number and press Assign . A list of phone numbers in the selected contact card is shown. Scroll to the one you want to have as the defa ult and press . When you re turn to the contact card view , you can see the default number underl ined.
[ 5 1 ] Contacts 5 3 The text Pres s Start, then speak after t one is displayed. When recording, hold the ph one at a short distance away from your mouth. After the starting tone, say clearly the word(s) you want to record as a voice tag. •P r e s s Start to record a voice tag.
[ 52 ] 5 REPLAY , ERASE, OR CHANG E A VOICE TAG To replay , erase, or change a voice tag, open a contact car d and scroll to the number that h as a voice tag (in dicated by ) and select Opti ons → V.
[ 53 ] Contacts 5 1 Press to open a contact card or go to the Groups list and select a contact group. 2 Select Opti ons → Ringing ton e . A list of r inging tones opens. 3 Use the scroll key to select the ringing tone you wish t o use for the contact or group and press Select .

[ 55 ] Camera and Im ages 6 6 Camera and Ima ges With th e camera you c an take pic tures of pe ople or events w hile on the m ove. Th e pictures ar e automatically saved i n the I mages ap plication, where you can rename them and organize them in folders.
[ 56 ] 6 Note: Do not move the phone bef ore the Camera application starts to save the photo. The photos are saved automatically in the Images application. The Camera goes into battery saving mode within a minute if t here have been no key pres ses. To co ntinu e tak ing pictures, press .
[ 57 ] Camera and Im ages 6 CAMERA MOD E AFFECTS IMAGE SIZE AND OR IENTATION With the different Camera modes, you can affect the size and orientation of the picture to be taken. When you are ta king a picture, press or to change between th e different modes.
[ 58 ] 6 • When you are viewing images, they are scaled to fit the display , which has 176x208 pi xels. T his means th at Standard an d Nigh t mode pict ures will appear more detailed when viewed on a higher resolution screen, for example, a computer or when z oomed in Images.
[ 59 ] Camera and Im ages 6 • STORE PICTURE S IN IM AGES Go to Menu → Images . Note: Y our phone must be switched on to use this function. Do n ot switch the phone on when wireless phone use is prohibited or when it may cause interference or danger .

[ 64 ] 7 • W ATCH A V IDE O CL IP To watch a video clip from the Video recorder video clip li st: 1 Open the Video r ecorder . 2 Scroll to a video clip and select Options → Play . Once a video clip is playing, you have similar options available to you as when playing a video clip in ‘RealOne Player™’ .
[ 65 ] RealOne Player™ 8 8 RealOne Pla yer™ Go to Menu → RealOne Player . With the RealOne Player you can play m edia files stored in the phone’s memory or on a memory card, or play music and video files and stream live conten t from the intern et.
[ 66 ] 8 To play a media file directly , or stream live conten t from the inter net: 1 Select Opti ons → Open → URL address . 2 Enter the URL of the site you want to play or st ream cont ent from. Before your me dia file or stream begins playi ng, your phone will connect to the site and load the file.

[ 85 ] Messaging 9 MULTIMEDIA MESSAGE O BJECTS Options in the Object s view are: Open , Save , Send , Call, and Exit . To see what kinds of media objects have been included in the multimedia message, open the message and s elect Option s → Objects .

[ 9 1 ] Messaging 9 View e-mail attachments Options in the A ttachments view are: Open , Retrieve , Save , Sen d , Delete , Help , and Exi t . Open a message that has th e attachment i ndicator and se lect Options → Attach ments to open the Attachments view .
[ 92 ] 9 SAVE ATTACH MENTS SEPARATE LY To sa ve an attachment, select Options → Save in the Attachments view . The attachment is saved in the corresponding application. For example, sounds can be saved in Recorder and te xt files (.TXT) in Notes. Attachments such as images can be saved on a memory card, if on e is used.
[ 93 ] Messaging 9 • W aiting/Queued - For example, if there are two similar types of messages in Outbox, one of them is waiting until th e first one is sen t. • Resend at (time) - Sending has failed. The phone will try to sen d the message again after a time-out period.
[ 94 ] 9 • the status of the topic: - for new , subscribed messages and - for ne w , un subscribe d messag es. • the topic number , topic name, and whether it has been flagged ( ) for follow-up. You will be notified when m essages belonging to a flagged topic have ar rived.
