CONTROLS AND FUNCTIONS 3 INTRODUCTION 1 MASTER ON/OFF Press inward to the ON position to turn on the power of this unit. Press again to release it outward to the OFF position to turn off this uni t. See page 14 for details. Even when this unit is turned off, this unit consumes a small amount of pow er to preserv e the memory .

CONNECTIONS 10 • Do not connect this unit or other compon ents to the main power until all connections between c ompon ents are complete. • Do not let the bare speaker wires touch each other or do not let them touch any metal part of th is unit. T his could damage thi s unit and/ or the speakers.
11 CONNECTIONS PREP ARA TION 1 Remove ap pro ximately 10 mm (3/8 in) o f insulation from the end of each speaker cable and twist the ex pose d wires of the cable together to pr e vent shor t circuits. 2 Unscre w the knob. 3 Insert one bare wire into the hole in th e side of each terminal.
12 CONNECTIONS Both AM and FM indoor antennas are include d with this unit. In general, these antennas should pro vid e sufficient signal strength. Connect each antenna corre ctly to the designated terminals. • A properly installed outdoor antenna provides clearer reception than an indoor one.
13 CONNECTIONS PREP ARA TION ■ Connecting the AM loop antenna 1 Set up the AM loop antenna . 2 Press and hold the tab. 3 Inser t the AM loop antenna lea d wires into the AM ANT terminal. 4 Release the tab. 5 Repeat steps 2 to 4 to insert the AM loop antenna lead wires in to the GND terminal.

PLAYING AND RECORDING 15 BAS I C OPERA TION l Extreme caution shou ld be exercise d when you play back CD s encoded in DTS. If you play back a CD encoded in DTS on a DTS-incompatible CD pl ayer, you will only h ear some unwanted noise that may damage your speakers.
16 PLAYING AND RECORDING ■ Adjusting the B A LANCE contr ol Adjusts the sound output balanc e of the left and right speakers to compensate fo r sound imbalance caused by speaker locations or lis tening room conditions.
17 PLAYING AND RECORDING BAS I C OPERA TION • The VOLUME, BAS S, TREBLE, BALANCE and LOUDNESS controls and the PURE DIRECT buttons have no effect on the source being recorded. • Check the copyright laws in your co untry to record from records, CDs, radio, etc.
18 PLAYING AND RECORDING Use this feature to automa tically set this unit to the standby mode after a certain amount of time. The sleep timer is useful when you are goi ng to sleep while this unit is playing or recording a s ource. The sleep timer also automatically turns off any ex ternal components connected to the AC OUTLETS.
19 PLAYING AND RECORDING BAS I C OPERA TION 1 Press MUTE on the remote control to mute the sound output. The MUTE indicator flas hes in the front panel display . After a few seconds, MUTE ON disappears from the front panel display . 2 Press MUTE on the remote control again to resume the sound output.
FM/AM TUNING 20 There are 2 tuning methods; automatic and manual. Select either met hod according to your preference and the strength of station signals.
21 FM/AM TUNING BAS I C OPERA TION Manual tuning is effecti ve when station signals are weak. 1 Rotate the INPUT sele ctor (or press TUNER on the remote control) to select TUNER as the input sour ce . 2 Press FM/AM on the fr on t panel to select the reception band (FM or AM).
22 FM/AM TUNING Y ou can use the automatic preset tuning method to automatically st ore FM stations. This function enabl es this unit to automatically tune in to FM stations with strong signals and store up to 40 (8 stations in each of the 5 groups, A1 to E8) of those rece iv ed stations in order .

30 XM SATELLITE RADIO TUNING 1 Rotate the INPU T selector on the fro nt panel (or press XM on the remote control) to select XM as the input source. The XM information (channel number/name, category or artist name/song title) for the currently selected cha nnel appears in the front panel display .
