5 1 USING YOUR NOTEBOOK COMPUTER Placement of your notebook PC It is important that you c hoose a good location to set up your notebook so that both you and y our new computer are saf e. Make sure y our working position is comfortable and that it encourages good posture while y ou are at your notebook.
6 Installing your battery W ARNING: Do not attempt to open your bat tery ’ s plastic casing — there are no user -serviceable parts inside and hazardous c hemicals may be released if the case is damaged. Do not dispose of batteries in fire, they may explode or release hazardous c hemicals.
7 Using and maintaining your battery Y our notebook comes equipped with an intelligent Lithium Ion bat ter y that can be rec harged many times. Y our bat ter y is used only when your notebook is not connected to an A C outlet.
8 Connecting the AC adapter Y our bat ter y will need to be c harged when you first unpac k your notebook. T o c harge the bat ter y , plug in the A C adapter and plug the A C adapter jac k into the pow er connection on the back of y our notebook. F ully c harge the bat ter y before using the notebook without the A C adapter .

19 2 TROUBLESHOOTING If you have any problems with your vpr Matrix notebook, please take a moment to find some of the common problems that can be fixed with a few simple steps. Windows XP has a useful built-in troubleshooting function that can be accessed from the Control P anel.
20 Solution: T he notebook may be in hibernation mode. If the po wer indicator light is blinking, wake up y our notebook by pressing the red po wer but ton briefly . Solution: Chec k that the bat ter y is properly inst alled and that the bat ter y gauge is full.
21 Audio Problem: S ound is too loud or too sof t. Solution: V olume is t urned up or down. Use the two v olume control but tons at the top of the ke yboard to adjust the output. Alternately , Clic k St art, then clic k My Computer . Clic k Control Panel.
22 DVD/CD-RW combo drive Problem: CD or D VD disc is not recognized by the dri ve. Solution: CD/D VD disc is not centered in the drive. Eject CD/D VD disc and position it in the center of the CD tray , then reload the CD/D VD . Solution: CD/D VD disc is upside down.
