Getting Started 19 T o avoid short-circuiting the speakers Short-circuiting of the speakers may damage the system. T o pre vent this, be sure to follo w these precautions when connecting the speakers. Make sure the bare wire of each speaker cor d does not touch another speaker terminal or the bare wire of another speak er cord .

24 Speaker Setup For the best possible surround sound, all the speak er s other than the subwoofer should be the same distance from the listening position ( A ). Howe ver , if necessary , this system allows you to place the centre speak er up to 1.6 meters (5 feet) closer ( B ) and the rear speakers up to 4.

Getting Started 29 Presetting Radio Stations Y ou can preset 20 stations for FM and 10 stations for AM. Before tuning, make sure to turn do wn the volume to minimum. 1 Press BAND repeatedly until the band you want appears on the front panel display . Every time you press B AND, the band changes to AM or FM alternately .

31 Playing Discs Playing Discs Depending on the D VD or VIDEO CD , some operations may be different or restricted. Refer to the operating instructions supplied with your disc. 1 T urn on your TV . 2 Switch the input selector on the TV to this system. 3 Press POWER on the system.
32 Resuming Playback from the Point Where Y ou Stopped the Disc (Resume Play) When you stop the disc, the system remembers the point where you pressed x and “ RESUME ” appears on the front panel display . As long as you do not open the disc tray , Resume Play will work ev en if the system enters standby mode by pressing [ / 1 .
33 Playing Discs Notes • Depending on where you stopped the disc, the system may not resume playback from exactly the same point. • The point where you stopped playing is cleared when: – you turn the power of f by pressing POWER on the system. – you change the play mode.
34 Playing VIDEO CDs with PBC Functions (PBC Playback) W ith PBC (Playback Control) functions, you can enjoy simple interacti ve operations, search functions, and other such operations. PBC playback allo ws y ou to play VIDEO CDs interactiv ely by following the menu on the TV screen.

If the D VD is recorded in multiple audio formats (PCM, Dolby Digital, MPEG audio, or DTS), you can select the audio format you want while playing the D VD .

59 Other Operations Controlling the TV Y ou can control your TV using the b uttons belo w . By pressing Y ou can TV [ / 1 T urn the TV on or off. TV/VIDEO Switch the TV ’ s input source between the TV and other input sources.

74 Glossary Bit rate V alue indicating the amount of video data compressed in a D VD per second. The unit is Mbps (Mega bit per second). 1 Mbps indicates that the data per second is 1,000,000 bits. The higher the bit rate is, the larger the amount of data.
75 Additional Inf ormation Dolby Pr o Logic Surround As one method of decoding Dolby Surround, Dolby Pro Logic Surround produces four channels from two-channel sound. Compared with the former Dolby Surround system, Dolby Pro Logic Surround reproduces left-to-right panning more naturally and localizes sounds more precisely .
