3 1 Getting started 1 GETTING ST AR TED This chapter provides basic inf or mation for using the copier . INTR ODUCTION This copier has been designed to provide intuitiv e operating ease while requiring a minimum amount of space. T o get full use of all copier f eatures, be sure to f amiliarize y ourself with this manual and the copier .
4 1 Getting started CAUTIONS ● Place the copier on a fir m, le v el surf ace. ● Do not install the copier in a humid or dusty location. ● When the copier is not used f or long time, f or e xample for consecutiv e holidays , tur n the pow er s witch off and remov e the power cord from the outlet.
5 1 Getting started MAIN FEA TURES Substantial copying functions ● Zoom cop ying from 50% to 200% in 1% increments can be perf or med. ● Continuous cop ying of maximum 99 sheets can also be perf or med. ● T oner sav e mode reduces toner consumption b y appro ximately 10%.

8 2 Installation 2 INST ALLA TION F ollow the installation procedure below to use the copier properly . COPIER INST ALLA TION Improper installation ma y damage the copier . Please note the f ollowing during initial installation and whenever the copier is moved.
9 2 Installation Be sure to allow the required space around the machine for servicing and proper ventilation. A small amount of ozone is produced within the copier during operation. The emission level is insufficient to cause any health hazard. NO TE: The present recommended long term exposure limit for ozone is 0.

11 2 Installation REMO VING PR O TECTIVE P A CKING MA TERIALS 1 Remov e pieces of tape , , , , and and protectiv e cov er . Then open the original cover and remove protective materials and . a f b c d g h e 2 Use a coin (or suitable object) to remo v e the screw .
12 2 Installation INST ALLING THE TD CARTRIDGE 2 Remov e the CA UTION tape from the front cov er and remov e the two protective pins from the fusing unit by pulling the strings upward one at a time. Protective pins CAUTION tape 3 Push gently on both sides of the front cov er to open the cov er .
13 2 Installation INST ALLING THE TD CARTRIDGE 6 Gently inser t the TD car tridge until it locks in place . 7 Close the front cover and then the side cover by pressing the round projections near the side cover open button. When closing the covers, be sure to close the front cover securely and then close the side cov er .
14 2 Installation LO ADING COPY P APER 2 Remove the pressure plate lock. Rotate the pressure plate lock in the direction of the arrow to remov e it while pressing down the pressure plate of the paper tra y .
15 2 Installation LO ADING COPY P APER 6 Gently push the paper tra y bac k into the copier . After loading cop y paper , to cancel the blinking “ P ” without restar ting copying, press the clear ( ) ke y . The “ P ” in the display will go out and the ready ( ) indicator will light up.
16 2 Installation PO WER ON T ur n the power s witch on the left side of the copier to the “ ON ” position. The ready ( ) indicator will light up and other indicators which show the initial settings of the operation panel will also light up to indicate the ready condition.
17 3 Making copies 3 MAKING COPIES This chapter describes basic copying functions and some other cop ying functions using the manual b ypass. 18 3 Making copies NORMAL COPYING 1 Ensure that paper of the desired size is set in the paper tr a y . See page 13, LO ADING COPY P APER . When cop ying onto 8-1/2" x 11" paper or a larger size , pull out the paper output tra y extension. 2 T ur n the power s witch on.
19 3 Making copies NORMAL COPYING 6 Set the number of copies using the two cop y quantity ( , ) ke ys. ● Press the clear ( ) k e y to clear an entr y if a mistake is made. ● A single copy can be made with the initial setting, i.e ., when “ 0 ” is display ed.
20 3 Making copies EXPOSURE ADJUSTMENT/PHO T O COPYING Cop y density adjustment is not required for most originals in the automatic e xposure mode. T o adjust the cop y density manually or to cop y photographs , the e xposure le vel can be adjusted in five steps man ually .
21 3 Making copies REDUCTION/ENLARGEMENT/ZOOM T o select a preset copy ratio: T o select a zoom ratio: Preset reduction and enlargement ratios are: 50%, 64%, 78%, 129%, and 200% When a zoom ( or ) ke y is pressed, the ZOOM indicator will light up and the zoom ratio will be displa yed in the displa y .
22 3 Making copies TW O-SIDED COPYING T wo-sided cop ying can be made on this copier using the manual b ypass. Example: The f ollowing two originals will be copied onto two sides of cop y paper . F ace up First original Second original F ace up or f ace down F ace down 1 Place the first original on the original table and make a cop y .
23 4 Special functions SPECIAL FUNCTIONS DESCRIPTION OF SPECIAL FUNCTIONS This chapter describes the special functions of this copier . Use these functions as needed.
24 4 Special functions T ONER SA VE MODE 2 Press and hold down the e xposure mode selector ke y f or appro ximately 5 seconds. The manual ( ) indicator will go out and the photo ( ) indicator will begin to b link. The exposure indicator mark ed “ 5 ” will light up , indicating the standard toner mode is activ e.
25 4 Special functions USER PROGRAMS 3 Press the print ( ) ke y . The entered progr am number will be steadily lit and the currently selected parameter number f or the program will blink on the right side of the displa y . 4 Select the desired parameter using the right cop y quantity ( ) ke y .
26 5 Supplies and user maintenance 5 SUPPLIES AND USER MAINTENANCE This chapter describes how to replace the TD car tr idge and the dr um car tr idge and how to chec k the total number of copies. TD CAR TRIDGE REPLA CEMENT The TD car tr idge replacement required ( ) indicator will light up when toner is needed.

28 5 Supplies and user maintenance DRUM CAR TRIDGE REPLACEMENT 4 Remov e the new drum car tridge from the protective bag and remov e the protective cov er from the car tridge. Then gently install the new drum car tr idge. Do not touch the surface of the drum (green portion) of the car tr idge.
29 5 Supplies and user maintenance Original table and original co ver Stains on the glass or cov er will also be copied. Wipe the glass and the cov er with a soft, clean cloth.

Close the side cov er by pressing the round projections near the side cov er open b utton. 5 T ur n the power s witch on. When copier is not in use T o prev ent entr y of dust and foreign matter , store the copier as f ollows.
31 6 Copier trouble? 6 COPIER TR OUBLE? This chapter describes misfeed remo v al and troubleshooting. MISFEED REMO V AL When the misf eed ( ) indicator b links or blinks in the displa y , the copier will stop because of a misf eed. 1 Open the side cov er while pressing the side cov er open button.
