Getting Started 4 Section 1: Getting Star ted This section explains how to start using your Samsung Tint™ phone b y activating yo ur ser vice, setting up your Voicemail, or getting an unders tanding of how this manual is put together .

Getting Started 6 3. Lift the b ottom of the battery up (1) and away (2 ) from the phone. Char ging the Batter y Y our phone is powered by a rechar geable standard Li-Ion batter y . Only use Samsung-approved ch arging devices and batteries. Samsung accessories are designed to maximize ba ttery life.
7 Low Batter y Indi cator The batter y indicator ( ) in th e up per-right corner of the display indicates po we r level. Monito r the battery strength and ensure your batter y is adequately charged. Five bars ( ) indicate a full charge. An empty ba tter y icon ( ) i ndica tes a near empty batter y .
Getting Started 8 T u r nin g Y our Phone Of f 䊳 Press and hold for two or more seconds. Y our phone powers off. Note: If your phone is on and you press for less than one second, the phone will not power off. This prevents your phone from being turned off accidentally .
9 Section 2: Understanding Y our Phone This section outlines some key features of your phone. It also describes the screen format and th e icons that will b e displayed when the phone is in use. 11 2. Navigat ion Key — In Menu mode, lets you scroll through the phone menu options. In St andby mode, let s you acce ss preset functions and one user-defined function. 3. The sample screen shows t ha t pressing the Left soft key wi ll display the Main Menu screen, press ing OK ( ) will launch the highlighted applicat ion, and pressing the Right soft key will show the @metro screen.

Understanding Y our Phone 16 Bac klights Backlights illuminate the display and the keypad. When you press any key or ope n the phone, the backlights come on.
17 Tip : Y ou can also enter the Vo lu m e > Voice Calls sub-menu by pressing MENU ➔ Settings ➔ Sound Set tings ➔ Vo lu m e ➔ Voice Calls . Use the Volume key on the left side of your phone to adjust the ringer volume setting. Note: The Vibrate icon ( ) appears in the display when the phone is in Vib r a t e mode.
Understanding Y our Phone 18 T o place your phone in Handsfree mode, do one of the following: • Connect an optional w ired headset. – Or – • Pa ir and connect an optional Bluetooth technology heads et or handsfree car kit. (F or more information, refer to “Add New Device” on page 89.
19 Section 3: Call Functions This section provides procedures for making and answering calls. This section also describes features, such as call logs and call timers, that help you make calls and ma nage you r call time. Making a Call 1. With the ph one on, enter the number you wish to call using the keypad.

The following pause options appear in the display: •2 - S e c P a u s e — A 2-second pause after which dialing resum es. •W a i t — A hard pause (waits for input from you) . 3. Use the Up/Down navigation or arro w keys to highlight the desired pause.
21 2. Press the num ber key representing the second digit of the desired Contact’ s speed dial number . 3. Press and hold the number key representing the third digit of the desired Contact’ s speed dial number . Example: T o speed dial the Contacts entr y assigned to speed dial 325, press , press , then press and hold .
Call Functions 22 4. Say “Y es” to confirm the name or “No” to hear the next name, or use the k eypad to select t he correct na me from the list. (For more in formation, refer to “Choice Lists” on page 75.) • Press the Repeat soft key to sa y the name again.
23 Pause Dialing F r om a Contacts Entr y If you voi ce dial a contac t that contains 2-Sec Pause(s) simply wait for the pauses to pass and th e dialing to complete.
Call Functions 24 Tip : Y ou can also enter the Vol u m e > Vo i ce Calls sub-menu by selecting MENU ➔ Settin gs ➔ Sound Sett ings ➔ Vol u m e ➔ Voice Calls . Use the Volume key on the left side of your phone to adjust the ringer volume setting.
25 Silence an Incoming Ring 䊳 During an incoming call, press the Volume key ( ) on the left side of the phone up or do wn to silence the ringer . Ignore an Incoming Call Ignored ca lls are immediately forwa rded to Voic email. 䊳 During an incomi ng call, press the Ignore soft key .
Call Functions 26 The following Calls Logs appear in the display: • Outgoing Calls — Stores and lists records of the last 90 calls you originated (ou tgoing) on your ph one. • Incoming Calls — Stores and lists r ecords of the l ast 90 calls y ou recei ved and a nswered (i ncoming) on your ph one.
27 Erase Logs Y o u can erase any or all calls from individual call s logs (Outgoing Calls, Incoming Calls, or Missed Call s) or from all calls logs a t the same time (A ll Ca lls).

Entering T e xt 32 Section 5: Entering T ext This section outlines how to sele ct the desired text entry mode when entering characters using the phone keypad . This section also describes how to use the T9 predictive text entr y system to reduce the number of key stro kes needed to enter text .
33 Using T9 ® Mod e T9 Word recogn izes com monly used words for the numeric sequence of ke y presse s and inserts the word into your message. T9 Word is much faster th an the t raditional me thod of text entr y (Abc) and requires only one key press per letter of the word that you’re spelling.
Entering T e xt 34 䊳 T o replace the current ly displayed text with a n alternative, highlight the preferred alternative and press . Note: T o enter a space, press the key .
35 Ente ring Symbo ls Enter symbols such as “@” or “%” into a text message. 1. While composing a tex t message, pre ss the Left soft key , then select Symbols . The first of t hree symbol scree ns appears in the display . 2. Use the Prev and Next soft keys to pa ge through the other symbols, if desired.

Y ou can have your Contacts en tries sorted by name. Conta cts Up to 500 entries can be stored in Contacts.

49 Erase a Group The Erase option lets you de lete a Group, thus freeing you to reassign the Contacts formerly in the Group. 1. In standby mode, press MENU ➔ Contacts ➔ Group . The Group List screen appears in the display . 2. Use the Up/Down navigation ke ys to highli ght the Group that you wish to delete, then press Options .
Understanding Y o ur Contacts 50 Cha tLINK™ ChatLINK is a downloadable Push-T o-T alk (PTT) application provided by your Wireless Carrier . ChatLINK lets you conduct PTT calls with selected Con t acts or Groups. Obtaining C hatLINK 1. In standby mode, press MENU ➔ Contacts ➔ ChatLINK .

Messages 54 Section 8: Messages This section explains ho w to send or receive different types of messages. This section also describes the features and functio nality a ssociat ed with messaging. 61 Note: Y ou can record and insert a voice memo of up to 60 seconds in length, if you record first before attaching a picture. If a picture is attached before recording, the size of the voice memo is limited to the amount of remaining memory .

Multimedia 80 Cam era S creen When you a ctivate your phone’ s camera, the s econd line of the display is reserved for the current camera resolution setting and the picture counter . The cente r of the display shows a viewfinder image of the su bject at which the camera is pointed.
81 Memory Counter — Indicates the number of photos stored in the My Images folder and the maximum number of photos you can sa ve at the current Resolution and Quality settings. Multimedia 82 Series Shot Mode 1. In camera mode , press the Options soft key , then highlight // ➔ Series Shot . The icon and the Series shot counter ( ) appear in the display . 2. Press Ta k e ( ) for each of 5 pictures in the series. The Series shot counter indicates the number of pictures taken in the series.
83 • Picture ID — Lets you take pictur es the correct size and resolu tion for Contacts list picture ID s. 2. Select the desired re solution s e tting. The camera applies the selec ted Resolution setti ng to your next picture. Night Shot Night Shot lets you take pi ctures in low li ght.
Multimedia 84 • Cloudy — Use this setting when taking pictures in clou dy cond itions. • T ungsten — Use this se tting when taking pictures un der incand escent light s. • Fluorescent — Use this settin g when t aking pict ures under fluores cent lights.

91 Suppor t ed Profiles Lists the Bluetooth pr ofiles your phone supports. Selecting a profile shows a descript ion of that profil e. Device Inf o Shows the Bluetooth T y pe, Status, and Add r ess of your phone. Calendar Calendar al lows yo u to view the current, past, or futu re month in calendar f ormat.
