7 Section 1: Getti ng Star ted This section explains how to ge t started with your device by installing and charging the battery, installing the SIM card and optional memory card, and setting up your voice mail . Before using your phone for the firs t time, you’ll need to install and charge the batter y and install the SIM card.
Getting Started 8 Special T ext Throughout this manual, you’ll find text that is set apart from the rest. These are intended to point out important information, share quick method s for activating features, to define terms, and more.
9 T o replace the battery co ver: Position the battery cover over the batter y compartment and press down until you hear a click. SIM Card Over view Important! Before removing or replacing the SIM card, make sure the device is switched off.
Getting Started 10 Installing and R emo ving the SIM car d T o install the SIM card: 1. Carefully slide the SIM card into the SIM card socket until the card clicks into place. 2. Make sure that t he card’ s go ld cont acts face into the device and that the upper -left angled corner of the card is positioned as shown.

Getting Started 12 Installing the microSD Memory Car d Y our phone suppor ts an optional (external) microSD™ or microSDHC™ memory card for stor age of media such as music, pictures, video and other files. The SD card is designed for use with this mo bile phone and other devices.
13 R emoving t he microSD Memor y Card 1. Locate the microSD card slot on the side of the device and carefully remove the micr oSD card slot cover . 2. Firmly press the card into the slot and release it. The card should pop partially out of the slot. 3.
Getting Started 14 2. Insert the USB cable into the device’ s Charger / Accessory jack. 3. Plug the ch arging head in to a standard AC power outlet. The device turns on with the screen locked and indicates both its charge state and percent of charge.
15 Important! If your handset has a touch scre en display , please note that a touch screen r esponds best to a light touch from the pad of your finger or a non-m etallic stylus. Using excessive force or a met allic object when pressing on the touch screen may damage the tempered glass surfac e and void the w arranty .

19 Locking an d Unlocking the De vice By default, the devic e screen locks when the backlight turns off. Place your finger on the screen and swipe the glass in any of the directions shown unlock the device. Note: Y ou can choose to configure lock sett ings to prevent unauthorized use of your devi ce.
Getting Started 20 Note: If you already have a Goo gle account, you only need to sign in. T o create a new Google Account from the W eb: 1. From a computer , launch a Web br owser and navigate to www. google.com . 2. On the main page, click Sign-in ➔ Create a n acco unt for free .
21 Confir ming the Default Image and Video Stor age Location Although the device is configur ed to store new pictures and videos to the Memor y card, it is a very good idea to confirm this location befor e using your device. Important! T oo man y users can overlook this storage destination until something goe s wrong.

Volume ke y allows you to adjust the ringer volume in standby mode (with the phone open) or adjust the voice volume during a call. When receiving an incoming cal l: • Pressing the volume key do wn mutes the ring tone.

Understanding Y our Device 30 Status Bar The Status Bar shows infor m ation about the connection status, signal strength, batter y level, and time, and displays notifications about incoming messages, calls and other actions .
31 Displays your current batter y charge level. Icon shown is fully charged. Displays when the current battery is 100 percent charged and the Display batter y percentage option is e nabled. This icon is followed by an audible beep. Displays your batter y is currently charging .

35 Notification Bar The Notification area indicates new me ssage events (da ta sync status, new messa ges, calendar events, call sta tus, etc). Y ou can expand thi s area to provide more detailed information about the current on-s creen notification icons.

43 Using Context Menus Context menus (also called pop- up menus) contain options that apply to a specific ite m on the screen. They function similarly to menu options tha t appear when you right click your mouse on your desktop computer . T ouch and hold an item on-s cree n to open its context menu.

For example, one screen could contain the Music Player shortcut and other forms of media, while anot her screen might contain communication a pps such as Gmail.

47 Sharing Applic ation Information The device’ s Applica tions menu now comes with a feature that allow s you to share information a bout your selected applications with external users. 1. Press and then tap ( Apps ). 2. Press and then tap Share apps .

49 T o pla ce a widget onto a di fferent screen: 1. T ouch and hold the widget until it becomes transparent. 2. Slowly drag it past the edge of the screen until the adjacent page appears high lighted and it then snaps onto the new page. 3. Drag the widget to its de sired position on the new screen.
Understanding Y our Device 50 Managing Wallpapers Wallpapers consist of either Galler y image s (user taken), Live wallpapers (anima ted backgrounds), or Wallpaper gallery (default phone wallpapers). Note: Selecting animated Live wallpa pers will require additional ba ttery powe r .

Memory Card 52 Section 3: Memor y Car d Y our device lets you use a microSD (SD) or microSDHC card (also referred to as a memor y card) to expand ava ilable memory space. This secure digital card enables you to exchange images, music, and data between SD-compatible devices.
53 Important! DO NO T remove a microSD card while the device is accessing or transferring fi les. Doing so will result in loss or damage of da ta . Make sure your ba ttery is fully charged before using the microSD card. Y our data may become damaged or lost if the battery runs out while you are using the microSD card.
Memory Card 54 5. Confirm the new mounted dr ive appears as a new drive on your computer . As soon as the connection is established a drive letter is assigned to th e device’ s storage device. 6. T o disconnect the new drive, simply remove the USB cable from your device.
55 Facto r y Dat a Reset From this menu you can reset your phone and sound settings to the factor y defa ult settings. 1. From the Home screen, press and then tap Settings ➔ Backup and reset .

57 Quick Dialing a Number fr om the Contacts List 1. From the Home screen, tap ( Contacts ). 2. Locate a contact from the list. 3. In a single motion, touch and drag your finger over the number by going to the righ t. This action places a call to the reci pient.

59 Making an Emergency call with a SIM card installe d The Emergenc y calling mode makes redialing an emergency number a 1-tap process. Before you can resume normal calling operations, you should firs t exit this mode. 1. Swipe the Lock screen to unlock the device.
Call Functions and Contacts List 60 T o view additional dialing options: After entering a numb er , tap : • Send message to send the current caller a text message while still maintaining the current call a ctive. • Add to Contacts to add the current number t o either a new or existing Contacts entry .
61 Managing Reject Calls This feature allows you to categorize both known and unknown callers as rejected contacts. These Contacts a re then added to you Rejection list which can b e managed for individual entries from within the Contact s list or as a whole from the Call rejection screen.
Call Functions and Contacts List 62 Adding numbers to the rejection list Entries can be added to the list via either the Contacts menu or via the Auto reject li st menu. The Contacts menu option assigns all numbers for an individual as rejected. Th e Auto reject list allows t o assign individual numbers.
63 Pause Dialing Y o u can dial or save ph one numb ers with pauses for use with automated systems, such as voice mail or financial phone numbers. • 2-Second Pause automatically sends th e next set of numbers after a two-second pau se. This is indica ted in the number st ring as a comma ( , ).
Call Functions and Contacts List 64 Speed Dialing Once you have stored phone numbers from your Contacts List, you can set up to 99 speed dial entries (2-100) and then dial them easily whenever you want , simply by touching the associated numeric key .
65 R emo ving a Speed Dial Entr y 1. From the Home screen, tap . 2. Press and then tap Speed dial setting . 3. T ouch and ho ld a existing on-screen speed dial location and select Remove from the context menu. – or – Press and then tap Remove . T a p an entry and select ( Remove entry ).

69 Launching Wi-Fi Calling Note: Verify you are currently connected to a Wireless Access Poin t. 1. Ensure that the Wi-Fi conne cted icon displays on the status bar . 2. Confirm ( Wi-Fi Calling Re ady ) displays in the Status Bar . 3. Use the phone Keypad, Logs, or Contacts list to mak e a call.
Call Functions and Contacts List 70 In Call Options Y our phone pr ovides a number of features that are available for use dur ing a call. Adjusting the Call V olume During a call, use the Volume keys on the left side o f the phone, to adjust the earpiece volum e.
71 Placing a Call on Hold Y ou can place the current call o n hold whenever you want. If your network supports this ser vice, you can also mak e another call while a call is in progr ess. T o place a call on h old: 1. Ta p Hold to place the current call on hold.

While on a call, switch to the Bluetooth h eadset inst ead of speaker by tapping ( Headset off ). 3. At the prompt, tap OK to enable Bluetooth if it is not already activate d.
73 Multi-P ar ty calls Making a Multi-Par ty Call A multi-party call is a network ser vice that allo ws multiple people to participa te in a multi-party or conference cal l. For further details about this ser vice, contact T -Mobile customer ser vice.

Ta p Manage ➔ to the right of the number to drop. The participant is discon ne cted and you can contin ue the call with th e other participant.
75 Important! The currently active call is displayed wit h a green background. 4. Ta p Swap again to sw itch back. Logs T ab The Logs tab is a list of the phone numbers (or Co ntacts entries) for calls you placed, acce pted, or missed. The Logs tab makes redialing a number fast and easy.
Call Functions and Contacts List 76 Accessing Call log from T he Notifications Area 1. Locate from the Notifications area of the Sta tus bar . 2. T a p the Status bar to reveal the Notifications tab, and then drag the tab to the bott om of the screen to open the Notifications panel (1).

Entering T ext 78 Section 5: Entering T ext This section describes ho w to select the desi red text input method when entering charac ters into your phone. This section also describes the predic tive text entr y system tha t reduces the amount of key strokes associa ted with entering text.
79 Entering T ext Using Swype Swype™ is the defa ult text input method th at allows you to enter a word by sliding y our fing er or stylus from letter to letter , lifting your finger betw een words. SWYPE uses error correcting algorithms and a la nguage model to predict the next word.

Log into the avai lable accounts to add help personalize your personal dictionar y with commonly used words or names from your available accounts. • Edit Dictionary : allows you to edit your current personal Swype dictionary .
Entering T ext 82 Selecting a T ext Input Mode in Swype 1. From a screen where you can enter text, tap the text input field to reveal the on-screen keyboard. 2. With Swype as your text en try method, select one of the following text mode option s: • 123 ABC to use Swype w ith alphanumeric characters from the on -screen ke yboard.
83 Using 123ABC Mode in SW YPE In 123ABC mode, you can enter only letters and a few common punctuation marks from the on-screen keyboard. The text mode key shows . 1. From a screen where you can enter text, tap the text input field to reveal the on-screen keyboard.
Entering T ext 84 By default, the first letter of an entr y is capitalized and the following lette rs are lower case. Aft er a word is entered and you lift your fing er , the cursor automatically adds a spac e after the w ord.
85 Using the Samsung K eyboar d This QWERTY keypad can be used to enter text in either a Portrait or landscape orienta tion. The only difference between the two orientations are the sizes of the keys. From a screen where you ente r text, rotate yo ur phone counterclockwise to a landscape orienta tion.
Entering T ext 86 Entering T ext using Different Input Options Although the default text input method with the Samsung keyboard is to use the on-screen keys you have other options .
87 By default, the first letter of a new entry is ca pitalized and the following letter s are lowercased . After a character is entered, the cursor automatically advances to the next space. 89 • T9 T race like using Swipe, allow s you to enter text by sliding your fingers across the on-screen keyboard. Thi s feature is optimized for use with the on-scre en QWERTY keyboard.

91 Configure Goog le V oice Typing 1. From the Home screen, press and then tap Settings ➔ Language and input . – or – From a screen where you can enter text, in a single motion, touch and drag the Status bar down to the bottom of the screen , then select ( Choose input method ) ➔ Set up input methods .
Contacts 92 Section 6: Contacts This section explains how to use and manage your Contacts List. Y ou can save phone numbers to your phone’ s memor y . Accounts From the Acc ounts menu you decide if you want applications to synchronize, send, and receive data a t any given time, o r if you want the a pplications to sy nchronize automa tically.
93 • Phone contacts are stored locally on the device. Note: If the phone is ever reset to its facto ry default parameters, contacts stored on the phone can be lost. • SIM contacts are stored within the SIM Card. Note: SIM contacts only store the Name and Phone number for an entry .

97 3. Edit the contact information then: • Ta p Save to complete and store the new entr y or • Ta p Cancel to delete the current en try . Adding a Number to an Existing Contact 1. From the Home screen, tap . 2. T ouch and hold an entry and select Edit to reveal the Contact entry’s details screen.

T a p the label button (to the left of the new phone number) and scroll through the list to select a ca tegory type.
