Getting Started 5 Section 1: Getting Star ted This section explains how to start using your phone b y configuring yo ur hardware and setting up your voice mail. Understanding this User Manual The sections of this manu al generally follow the features of your phone.
6 Installing the Batter y Remo ving th e Batter y C o ver 1. Remove the battery cover by placing your thumbnail in the slot at the bot tom of the phone. If you have fragil e nails, use a pointed object. 2. Lift the co ver up and off the phone. Installing the Ba tter y 1.

8 Charging a Batter y Y our phone is powered by a rechargeable Li-ion battery . The T ravel Adapter that is used to charge the battery , is incl uded with your phone. Use only Samsung- approved batteries and chargers. Y ou can use the phone while the battery is charging, although doing so requires additional charging time.
Getting Started 9 Important!: Verify that the handset battery is installed prior to connection. If the batter y is not properly installed and the wall charger is connected, the handset may power off and on continuously , preventing proper opera tion. 6.
10 Switching the Phone On or Off 1. T o turn the phone on, press and hold or until the phone s witches on. The phone launches the activation spl ash screen and searches for the network. Once the network has been found, you can make or receive calls. 2.

Display : S hows informa tion needed to oper ate your phone: signal strength, batter y level, time and date, and more. 2. Left Soft key : Press to se lect the option d isplayed above the Left Soft Key .

Understanding Y our Phone 15 Qwer ty View Sliding the phone open in Landscape Mode provides access to a QWERTY keypad. 1. Left Soft key : allows you to select soft key actions or menu items corresponding to the bo ttom left line on the displ ay screen.

Understanding Y our Phone 17 Side Views The following illustrati on shows the side details of your phone. 1. Volume keys : F rom the Home screen, press to adjust volume. During calls or music playback, press to adjust volume. Press to mute the ringtone of an incoming call.

Understanding Y our Phone 19 Display Layout Y our display screen provides information about the phone’ s sta tus, alerts for calls and messages, time and date , options an d soft keys for navigating your phone menus. The icons on your phone d ispla y are described as follows: Shows the received signal strength.
20 Backlight A backlight illuminat es the internal display and the ke ypad. When you press any key , th e backlight comes on. It goes o ff when no keys are pressed within a given period of time, depending on the setting in the Backlight Time menu. The display turns off af ter one minute t o conserve battery power .

Menus and sub-menus can be accessed by sc rolling using the Navigation keys or by using the sh ortcut keys. Accessing a Men u 1. 22 Using Shortcut Numbers Numbered menu items, such as menus, su b-menus, and op tion s can be quickly accessed by using thei r shortcut nu mbers. In Menu mode, Main Menus can be accessed by pressing th e number keys (1 to 0, * and #) corresponding to thei r location on the screen.

24 Section 3: Call Functions This section describes how to make or answe r a call. Note: Keys shown in this section represent keys shown on the front of the phone. If you have the phone open in landscape mode, then press the corresponding key . Displaying Y our Phone Number 䊳 Press Menu ➔ Settings ➔ Phone ➔ Own number .
Call Functions 25 Manu al Paus e Dialing T o manually call a number with pa use(s) wi thout storing it in your Contacts list: 1. From t he Idle screen, use the keypad to enter the ph one number . 2. Press and hold to a dd a two-second pause ( P ). Use the keypad to enter the additional numbers.
26 Making a C all Using Spee d Dial Y ou can assign a shortcut number to a phone number fo r speed dialing. 1. Press Menu ➔ Contacts ➔ Speed Dial List . The Speed Dial screen displays showing the numbers 1 through 9. The num ber 1 is reserved for Voice Mail.

Entering T e xt 33 Section 4: Entering T ext This section outlines how to select the desired text entry mode when entering characters using the QWERTY keyboard-style keypad. This section also descri bes how to use the T9 predictive text entry system to reduce the number of key strokes needed t o enter text.

Entering T e xt 35 Changing the T ext Input Mode The availabl e T ext Input modes a re: T9 Predictive T ext, Fn ( 123 numeric), Abc , and Symbols (Sym) .

For more information on sending messages, see “Creating and Sending Messages” on page 39. Using SYM (sym bol) Mode Symbol mode enables you to insert sy mbols and punctuation marks into text.
Entering T e xt 37 2. Begin entering a word by pressing the 2 to 9 keys. Press each key onl y once for each letter . The built-in dictiona ry lists words that match the entered keystrokes. 3. Example: T o enter “Hello”, press , , , , The word that you are typing displays on the scr een.

Note: This feature may not be available for some langua ges. • T o enter periods, hyphens, colons , or parenthesis, press and hold the key . T9 mode applies grammar rules to ensure that correct punctuation is used.

Messages 41 Attaching Busine ss Card to a Message T o attach your Business Card to an outgoing message, fo llow these steps: 1. Create a contract entry (the information st ored in the en try is used as a business card). 2. Press Menu ➔ Contacts ➔ Contacts .
42 Using Message Options Message options at the Inbox level differ according to the message type, wha t you have done with the me ssage, and whether you are viewin g the message.
Messages 43 Deleting Messages When your ph one’ s memory is full, an no tification message di splays and you cannot receive any new messages. Use the Delete option to erase obsolete messages, freeing memory for new messa ges. Y ou can delete the me ssages either individually or all at one time.
44 Multimedia M essage The following Mult imedia message options are available: • Delivery Options : – Priority : you can select the priority level of you r messages. – Expiration : select the length of time you wish the me ssage you sent to remain on the MMS ser ver .

50 Adding Pa uses to Contact Nu mbers When you call automa ted systems, you are often required to en ter a password or account number . Instead of manually entering the numbe rs each time, you can store the numbers in your Contacts along with special characters called pauses.
Managing Y our Contacts 51 Using Contacts Diali ng a Number from C ontacts Once you have stored phone numbers in Co ntacts, you can dial them by us ing their SIM card location number or by using th e Search field to loca te the entr y .

Managing Y our Contacts 53 FDN Mode FDN (Fixed Dialin g Number) mode, if supported by your SIM card, restricts your outgoing calls to a limited se t of phone numbers. When th is feature is enabled, yo u can make calls only to pho ne numbers stored in the FDN list on the SI M card.
54 Creati ng New FDN Numbe rs With the Fixed Dial mode On, follo w these procedures: 1. In Idle mode, press Menu ➔ Contacts ➔ FDN Contact s . 2. Press Options ➔ Create FDN contacts . 3. Enter your PIN2 password and press the key . Note: The PIN2 code is provided by your Service Provider .

My Folder 63 Section 8: My F older The topics co vered in this section inc lude Audi o, Games&Apps, Pictures, Video, Other Files, and Used Space. 1. Press Menu ➔ My Folder . 2. Select from one of the following f unctions: Audio , Games&Apps , Pictures , Vid eo , Other Files , or Used Space .
64 Audio The Audio menu option allows you to shop t o nes, answer tones, and music using AppCenter . Y ou can also access previously st ored (pre-recorded) audio files from your internal microSD card. 1. Press Menu ➔ My Folder ➔ Audio . 2. Highlight an option ( Ringtones , Music , or Recorded Audio ).
My Folder 65 Music This menu displays all of your purchased songs. 䊳 Press Menu ➔ My Folder ➔ Audio ➔ Music . Re corded A udio This menu shows a list of sa ved voice memos. When a voice memo is reco rded and saved, it is stored in the Recorde d Au dio folder .

The Music applicat ion can organize and play musi c files s tored on your phon e and memor y card. Create playlists, add, rearrange and remove files, and launch the browser to shop for more music.
72 Music Option s The Music options menu configures your phone’ s music playing options s uch as shuffling the music files, lo oping music files, and adding son gs to the playlist. 1. In Idle mode, press Menu ➔ T ools ➔ Music . 2. Navigate t o a music file and press t h e key .

Applications 77 Say a Comm and Options • Call <Name or #> : dials a name or number listed in y our contact list. If multiple num bers exist (i.e. home, work, or other) sa y the name and the number type (location). • Send Message <Name or #> : displays the Create T ext Message screen.
78 V oi ce Recogniti on Tips • Wait for th e tone before you speak. • Speak clearly an d at a normal volume. • There is no need to use paused speech. The voice recognition softw are has been trained to recognize natural speech, and performs best when you speak naturally .

80 Alarms This feature al lows you to set an alarm to ring at a specific time. 1. Press Menu ➔ T ools ➔ Alarms . The following op tions displa y: • Wake-up Alarm : the al arm ring s to wake you u p at the specifi ed time. •A l a r m 1 : primary alarm sett ing.

82 Calendar The Calendar feature al lows you to view the Month, Week, and Day layo ut views. It also shows any Missed Alarm Events that occurred. T o display your calendar: 䊳 Press Menu ➔ T ools ➔ Calenda r . The Calendar displays in the default (Month) view.

90 Timer Y ou can use this menu to set a countdown timer . Use a timer to count down to an event based on a preset time le ngth (hours, minutes, and seconds).

92 Editing the Normal - Call Profile The phone’ s profile defaults to Normal whe re the incom ing Alert T ype is set to melody. 1. In Idle mode, select Menu ➔ Settings ➔ Sound Profile 2. Highlight Normal and press Edit . 3. Highlight the Call tab.

Changing Y our Settings 97 Time and Date By default, your device re ceives time and date informat ion from the wireless network. The T ime and Date menu allows you to modify the form atting for the time and date: 1. In Idle mode, sele ct Menu ➔ Settings ➔ Time and Date .
98 5. Select the Tim e field and enter the time in the following format: HH:MM. 6. Select the Date field and enter the date i n the following forma t: MM/DD/YYYY . 7. Select the Tim e Fo r ma t field and press the Left or Right Navigation key t o select the 12 Hours or 24 Hours format.
