6 Section 1: Getti ng Star ted This section explains how to st art using your ph one by first configuring your hardware, acti vating your service, and then setting up your voice mail. Setting Up Y our Phone Prior to use it is necessa ry to instal l both the batter y and SIM into their cor responding internal comp artments.
Getting Started 7 Installing the SIM Card When you subscribe to a cellular netw ork, you are provided with a plug-in SIM card loaded with your subscription details, such as your PIN, available o ptional service s, and many others features.
8 2. Gently press down to secure the batter y (2). R emoving and Ins talling the Memor y Card Y ou can use a microSD (SD) or microSD HC card to expand available memory space if you desire. This secure digital card enables you to exchange images, music, and data between SD-compatible devices.
Getting Started 9 For more information on Memory Cards, see “Memor y Card” on page 42. Installing the Bac k Co v er 1. Place the batter y cover onto the back of the phone (1) and press down (2). 2. Press along the edge of the back cover (3) until you have a secure seal.
10 3. Use a coin or other object ins erted in th e slot on the back cover (A) and turn it clockwise to lock the battery cover (B). Note: Make sure the batter y is properly installed before switching on the phone. Charging a Batter y Y our device is power ed by a rechargeable Li-ion ba ttery .
Getting Started 11 1. Plug the flat end of the T ra vel Charger into the Power/ Accessory Interface connecto r and the other end into a standard AC wall out let. 2. When charging is finished, remove the flat end from the interface connector jack on the phone.

30 Menu Naviga tion Y ou can tailor the phone’ s range of func tions to fit yo ur needs using both menus and widge ts. Menus, sub-menu s, and features can be accessed by scrolling through the available on-screen menus. Y our phone originally has five home screens but can be expanded up to seven.

38 3. T ap one of the following options: • Gallery : select a wallpaper from photographs you have taken with y our cam era. • Live wa llpapers : select an animated wallpaper . This option is not available for the Lock screen o ption. • Wallpapers : select from many still-life wa llpapers.

40 T o add a Home screen, follow these st eps: 1. Press to activate the main Home screen. 2. Press and tap Edit . 3. T ouch and hold the Home screen that contains and drag it to the new location. Note: The icon will only be displayed if a Home screen has previously been deleted.

46 1. From the Home screen, tap . 2. Enter the emergenc y number (ex: 911) and then tap . 3. Complete your call. During this t ype of call, you will have access to the Speaker mode, Keypad, and End Call features. • After completing yo ur emergency call, appears in the Notification area until you exit the Eme rgency calling mode.
Call Functions 47 9. T o make a call using Speed Dial, tap ➔ Keypad and from the Dialer , touch and hold the speed dial number . Making a Call from the Addr ess Book Y ou can store phone numbers that you use regularly on the SIM card or in the phone’ s memor y .
48 Note: Y ou can answer a call while using the Address Book or other men u feature. Af ter ending the call, the phone returns to the previously active fu nction screen. Dialing Options From the Home scr een and Application menus, you have the option to access the Dialer and initiate a call by tapping ➔ Keypad .
Call Functions 49 Viewing Missed Calls from the Loc k Screen The number of calls you have missed is displayed on the Home screen. 1. T ouch the missed call icon with the number of missed calls on it and move it in an y direction. Note: If there is a voicemail sent by the same num ber , associated ico ns are displayed and can then be selected.
50 If you want to replace the number fo r an existing contact, tap Update e xisting . 4. Enter informat ion into the various fields using the keypad. 5. Ta p Save to save when you are finished. For fu rther details about the Addr ess Book feature, see “Adding a New Contact” on page 66.
Call Functions 51 Adding a Call to the R eject List 1. From the Home screen, tap ➔ Logs . A list of recent calls is dis played. 2. T ouch and hold the call you want to add to the Reject List. 3. Ta p Add to reject list . 4. At the Add to reject list prompt, tap OK .
52 • Speaker : routes the phone’ s audio through either the spea ker or through the earpiece. – Ta p Speaker to route the audio through the speaker . (Y ou can adjust the speaker volume u sing the volume keys.) A green line will appear under the Speaker bu tton.
Call Functions 53 Switchin g Betwe en Calls When you have an active cal l and a call on hold, you may switch betwee n the two calls, changing the one on hold to active and placing the other on hold.

Call Functions 55 Switching off the Microphone (Mute) Y ou can temporarily switch your phone’ s microphone off, so that the other person cannot hear you. Example: Y ou wish to say something to person in t he room, but do not want the pe rson on the phone to hear you.
56 Call rejection 1. From the Call settings screen, tap Call reject ion . 2. Ta p t h e OFF / ON icon to turn Auto reject mode on . 3. Ta p Auto reject mode and tap one of the follo wing options: • All numbers : to reject all calls. • Auto reject numbers : to reject all calls in your Re ject list.
Call Functions 57 A uto screen of f during calls This option turns on the proximity sensor during calls so that your phone will kno w to turn the screen off to save po wer . From the Home screen, tap ➔ ➔ Call settings ➔ Auto scree n off during ca lls to create a checkmark and enable the feature.
58 Additional settings 1. From the Home screen, tap ➔ ➔ Call settings ➔ Additional settings . 2. T ap one of the following options: •C a l l e r I D : allows you to choose how your Caller ID will be displayed. Select Network d efault, Hide number , or Show number .
Call Functions 59 3. At the prompt, enter your old PIN2 code. 4. At the prompt, enter a new PIN2 code. 5. Confirm your PIN2 code. Managing the FDN l ist When this featur e is enabled, you can make calls only to phone numbers stored in the FDN list on the SIM card.
60 Y our phone is compatibl e with select TTY device s. Please check with the manufacturer of your TTY device to ensure that it is compatible w ith digital cell phones. Y our phone and TTY device will connect via a special cable that plugs into your phone’ s headset jack.
Entering T ext 61 Section 4: Entering T e xt This section describes ho w to select the desi red text input method when entering charac ters into your phone. This section also describes the predic tive text entr y system tha t reduces the amount of key strokes associa ted with entering text.
62 Changing the T ext Input Mode - K eypad There are two main keypa d layout keys that will change the on-screen keys within the QWERTY keypad. The available T ext Input modes are: Sym and Abc . Note: When i n Abc mode, the Sym button will appear . When in Sym mode, the Abc / ABC / abc button will appear .
Entering T ext 63 Using Symbol/Numeric Mode Use Symbol/Numeric Mode to add numbers, symbol s, or emoticons. 1. Rotate your phone counterclockwise to a Landscape orientation. 2. Contacts and Y our Address Book 69 Finding an Address Book Entr y Y ou can store phone numbers and their corresponding names onto your SIM card and phon e’ s onboard memory . The two locations are physically separa te but are used as a single entity , called the Address Boo k.
70 J oining Contacts J oining Contact Infor mation Many people now maintain mul tiple email accounts, social networking logins, and other similar account informa tion. For example, a Facebook account login name might differ fro m a corporate email account login because they are maintained separately and for different groups of people.
Contacts and Y our Address Book 71 Unjoining a Contact 1. From the Home screen, tap Contacts . 2. T a p a contact name (the account name from which you want to unlink an ent ry). Note : typically this is the same contact with a different name or account informa tion.
72 4. Ta p Sync all to synchronize all accounts. – or – T a p next to the account you want to sync, then tap Sync Now . The accounts are synchronized. Address Book Options Y ou can access Address Book options while at the main Address Book page or while in th e details page for a specific entry.

74 R emoving a Contact From a Group 1. From the Home screen, tap Contacts ➔ Groups . 2. T ap a group entry . 3. Press ➔ Remove member . 4. T ap all of the contacts y ou want to remove from this group. A green checkmark will appear nex t to their name.

84 Play Mo vies & TV With Google Play Movies & TV , you can rent thous ands of different movies and television sho ws. Y ou can watch instantly , or do wnload your mo vie or sho w for offline viewing at a later time. 1. From the Home screen, tap ➔ Play Movies & TV .

Camcorder Options Options are represented by icon s across both sides of the screen.
