Getting Started 1 Section 1: Getting Star ted This section explains how to start using your pho ne by first configuring your hardw are, activatin g your service, and t hen setting up your voice mail. Setting Up Y our Phone Prior to use it is ne cessary to install b oth the battery and SIM into their corresponding in ternal compartments.
2 Important! The plug-in SIM c ard information and its contacts can be easily damaged by scratching or bending, so be careful when handling, ins erting, or removing the card. Keep all SIM cards out of reach of small children. Carefully s lide the SIM c ard into the SIM card socket (as shown) unt il the card lock s into pl ac e.
Getting Started 3 R e mo ving and Installing the Memor y Card Y ou can use a microSD (SD) or microSDHC car d to expand available memory space if you desire. This secu re digital card enables you to exchan ge images, mus ic, an d data between SD-compatible devices.
4 Installing the Back Co v er 1. Place the battery cover onto th e back of the phone (1) and press down (2). 2. Press along the ed ge of the back cover (3) until you have a secure seal. Note: Make sure the battery is properly installe d befo re switching on the phone.
Getting Started 5 Note: Y ou must fully charge the battery before usin g your phone for the first time. A discharged bat tery recharges fully in appro ximately 4 hours. Note: Long backlight sett ings, sear ching for service , vibrate mode, web browser use, and other va riables may re duce the battery’ s talk and standby times.
6 Wa rning! The touch screen responds best to a lig ht touch from the pad of yo ur finger. Using excessive force or a metallic object when pressing on t he to uch screen may damage the tempered glass surface and void the warranty . Note: Failure to unplug the wall c harger before you remove the battery can damage the phone.

8 8. At the End user l ice nce agreement screen, tap “I understand and ag ree to the t erms and conditions above” to place a checkmark in t he selection box. T ap “Y es” to allow Samsung to collect error log data or “No thanks” to prevent data collection.

As you place the Widget into the T rash, both items turn red. Note: This action does not actually delete t he Widg et, it just removes it from the current Home screen.
32 A folder is displayed in the original place of the application icon with the applicat ion ic on displayed on top of it. Y ou can now drag other Apps into t he fo lder. 8. T o view information o n an App, drag the App icon u p to the App info icon to view information on t he application.

34 6. Ta p OK to delete the page and it s contents, otherwise tap Cancel . 7. Press to return to the main Home screen. Mo ving Home Screens Y ou can arrange your Home screens in any order that you want. T o move a Home screen, follow these steps: 1. Press to activate the main Home screen.

T o di splay the Status indic ator: On the Home screen, touch and hold the Notification Bar until the pull-down displays, then d rag down vertical ly .
36 Accessing Additional Panel Functions In addition to notif ications, the No t ifica tion pa nel also prov ides quick and ready access to separate device functions. These can be quickly activated or dea ctiv at ed by toggling th em on or off. Y ou can choose the functions that will be display ed.

Mounting the SD card establishes a USB connectio n with your computer . 1. Insert the SD car d int o the external, SD car d slot.

40 Making an Emergency Call with a SIM card 1. From the Home screen, tap . 2. Enter the emergency nu mber (ex: 91 1) and then tap . 3. Complete your call. During t his type of call, you will hav e access to the Speaker mode, Keypad , and End Call features.
Call Functi ons 41 Answ ering a Call When a call is received the phone rings and displays t he caller ’s phone numbe r, or name if stored in the Address Book. 1. At the incoming call screen: • T ouch and drag in any direction to answer the call. • T ouch and drag in any dir ection to reject the call and send it to your voicemail.
42 Dialing Options From the Home screen and Application menus, you have t he option to access the Diale r and initiate a call by tapping ➔ Keypad . From the Dialer and the Contacts screen, the following tab s are located at the top o f you r screen: • Keypad : dials the cu rrent number en t ered using the on-screen keypad.

Call Functi ons 45 Adjusting the Call V olume During a call, t o adjust the earpiece volume, us e the Vo l u m e keys on the lef t side of th e phone. Press the Up volume key to increase the volume level and press the Down volume key to decrease t he volume level.

50 Section 4: Entering T ext This section describes how to select the de sired text input method when ent ering characters into y our phone. This section als o describes the predictive text entry system that reduces the amount of key stro kes associated with entering text.
Entering T ext 51 Changing the T ext Input Mode - K eypad There are two main keypad layo ut keys that will change the on-screen keys within the QWERTY keypad . The available T ext Input modes are : Sym and Abc . Note: When in Abc mode, the Sym button will appear .

Entering T ext 53 Samsung K eyboar d Settings For information on how you can configure your Samsung keyboard settings, see “Sa msung Keyboard settings” on page 121. Using the Google V oice Typing F eature Y ou can use your voice to enter text using the Google V oice typing feature.
54 Section 5: Contacts and Y our Ad dress Book This section allows you to manage your daily contacts by storing their name and number in you r Address Book. Addre ss Book entries can be sorted by name, ent ry , or group. Adding a New Contact Use the following pro cedure to add a new contact to your Address Book.

58 Link Contacts Linking Contact Information Many people now maint ain multiple email accounts, social networking logins, and other simi la r account information. For example, a Facebo ok account lo gin name might differ from a corporate email account login becau se they are maintained separately and for dif f er ent groups of people.

60 Address Book Options Y ou can access Address Book options while at the main Address Book page or while in the deta ils pa ge for a specific entry . Options in Address Book 1. From the Home screen, tap Contacts then press . 2. The following options are displayed: • Delete: allows yo u to delete 1 o r more of your conta cts.

64 Copying Contacts to the Phone 1. From the Home screen, tap Contacts ➔ ➔ Import/Export . 2. Ta p Import from SIM card . 3. At the Save contact to prompt, tap Device or an account name that you would like to copy the contact t o. The phone then displays a lis t of your current contacts stored on your SIM card.

66 Section 6: Multimedia This section explains h o w to use the multimedia features of your phone, including Samsung Hub, Samsu ng Link, Music, Video, Play Movies, Gallery , Camera, and Camcorder . Samsung Hub Samsung Hub makes it easy to find, sample, and purchase movies, TV shows, books and game s, in one user-friendly location.
Multimedia 67 Tip : In some cases it might be necessary to sign in to yo ur Samsung account v ia the application . Press and then select Sign in. Note: Y our Samsung Hub account is managed by the Samsung account application . This appli cation manages your user profile information.

Multimedia 69 Samsung Link This application wirelessly synchron izes your Samsung device with your TV , streams content , and even k eeps tabs on wh o calls or sends text messages with real-time, on-scree n monitoring. Samsung Link makes st aying co nnected easy .
70 2. Press and configure the following settings as desired: •R e f r e s h : allows you to ref resh the screen. • Register storage : allows y ou to add a Web storage loca tion. Without a st orage service/l ocation added, yo u will not be able to use Samsung Link.

72 Music Opt ions T o access additional options, follow these st eps: 1. While playing music, press . 2. The follow options are available: • Via Bluetooth : scans for devices and pairs wi th a Bluetooth headset. • Play via Group Play : allows y ou to shar e your music using Group Play .
Multimedia 73 Music Settings The Music Settings menu allows you to set pref erences for t he Music Player such as whether y ou want t he music t o play in the background, sound ef fects, and how the music menu displays. 1. From the Home screen, tap ➔ Music .
74 Adding Music to a Playlist T o add files to the playlist: 1. From the Home screen, tap ➔ Music . 2. Ta p t h e Playlist s tab. 3. T ap the playlist name in which to add music. 4. Ta p Add music . 5. T ap a music fil e, or tap Select all to add all the music tracks to this p la yli st, then tap Done .
Multimedia 75 Video The Samsung Vi deo app lication plays video files stored on your mi croSD ca rd. 1. T ap ➔ Video . 2. All videos that you have on your ph one and memory card will be displayed. T ap the video that you want to play . 3. The video will begin to play .

Camera This section explains how to use the camera on your pho ne. Y ou can take photographs and shoot video by u sing the built- in camera function ality .

If no microSD is installed, all pictures are stored on the Phone.) 7. While viewing a picture, after you have ta ken it, pinch the screen outwards to zoom in or pinch the screen inwards to zoom out.

When Gall ery opens, tap the yellow frame on ea ch face, and choose t he best individual face f or the subject.
82 Camera and Camcor der Settings This section describes the dif ferent settings that you can configure on y our camera. Not all of the following options are available in both still camera and vid eo came ra modes. The available options vary by mode. 1.
Multimedia 83 – V olu me key : Choose whether the volume keys act as The Zoom Key , The camera key or The record key . – Time r : Use this for del ayed-time shots. Y ou can set the timer to Off, 2 se c, 5 sec, or 10 sec. – White balance : Select an approp riate white bal ance, so images have a true- to-life colou r range.

Multimedia 85 Using the Camcorder In addition to taking photos, the camera a l so doubles as a camcorder that also allow s you to record, view , and send videos. Note: The camera may not b e able to properly record videos to a memory card wit h a slow transf er speed.
86 Section 7: Messaging This section describes how to se nd and receive dif ferent t ypes of messages. It also include s the features and function alit y associated with messaging.
