Disp lay 17 Backlight The display is illuminated by a backlight. When you press an y key , the backlight illuminates. It turns off if no key is pressed within a giv en period of tim e, depe nding on the Back Light menu opti on. T o specify the length of time for wh ich the back light is activ e , set the Back Light menu opti on ( Menu 6.

Gettin g Sta r te d 19 Getting Started Installing the SIM Card When you sub scri be t o your serv ice provi der ’s network, you are provided with a plug-in SIM card loaded with your subscription details, such as your PIN, an y optional services av ailable and so on.
G e t t i n g S t a r t e d 20 3. Slid e the SIM c ard int o the SIM card so cket so tha t it l ocks t he card into position. Mak e sure that the notched co rner is top left and the gold contacts of the card face into the phone.
Gettin g Sta r te d 21 4. Place the battery back, taking care to match the tabs on the battery with the grooves on the phone. 5. Press the battery down until it clicks into place. Make sure that the battery is properly installed before switiching on the p ower.

Press the UP key t o increase and the DOWN key to decrease the volume. Answering a Call When y ou receive a call, the phone rings and show s the incoming call animation.

Phoneb ook 33 Phonebook Y ou can store phone numbers and thei r corresponding names i n the memory of your SIM card. In addition, you can store up t o 1000 num b ers in th e pho ne m emory . The SI M card and p hon e memories, although physically separa te, are used as if they were a single en tity , called the phoneb ook.
P h o n e b o o k 34 The phon e no w displays the first free location in the last mem ory used to sav e a numb er and name. If that memo ry is full, the first free locati on in the ot he r mem ory is disp layed.
Phoneb ook 35 Using Phonebook Entry Options While accessing any phon eboo k entry , press the Options sof t key to access the op tions for the entry . The following options are av ailable. Paste : allows you to paste the s elected numbe r into the normal dialing mode.

When the idle screen is displayed, select the Ph.Book soft key to scroll to Group Searc h by pressing the Up or Down key and press the Sele ct soft key . Y ou are asked to enter a group name. 2. Enter the first few letters of the group nam e that you wish to find.

E n t e r i n g T e x t 42 Using t he T9 Mode The T9 pred icti ve te xt in put mode all ows you to key i n any character using single keystrokes . This text input mode i s based on a bu il t - in d ict io na r y . 1. When you are in the T9 predic tive text input mode, start entering a word by pressing keys 2 to 9 .
