Y our Phone 3 Your Phone Features of your phone Your phone is lightweight, easy-t o-use and offers many exciting features. The following list outlines a few of t he features inc luded in your phone.
Y our Phone 4 Phone layout Open view of your phone The following illu strations show the main elements of your phone: 1. Display : This screen displays all the information needed to operate your phone. 2. Navigation keys : This key allows you to scroll through phone menu options and provides a shor tcut to phone functions fro m standby mode.
Y our Phone 5 In Idle mode, the navigation keys act as shortcuts, allowing you to access other menus directly. You can cu stomize the shortcuts ( Menu 9.4.2 ) to your own personal preferences. The default shortcuts are: 3. Soft key : Performs the func tions indicated b y the screen text on the bottom of the display.

Send key : Allows you to answer calls, dial calls , and to recall the last number(s) dialed, receive d, or missed. ♦ Press once to answer calls. ♦ Enter a number and briefly press to make a call. ♦ Briefly press in standby mode to display a list of recent calls to and from your phone.

Y our Phone 8 Closed view of your phone 1. Camera lens : The camera lens is used for taking photos. For further details about the Ca mera feature, see page 80. 2. Front LCD : Your phone has an external display on the front of the phone. It indicates when you have an incoming call or message.
Y our Phone 9 Display Display layout The display has the following areas: Icons Shows the rec eived signal st rength. The gr eater the number of bars, the stronger the signal. Appears when the phone is acce ssing services in a GPRS network. When data is being transferred, this icon animates.
Y our Phone 10 Appears when the phone is ac cessing services in a 3G+ (HSDPA) network. When data is being transferred, this icon animates. Appears when a call is in progress. Appears when there is no ne twork coverage available. When you are out of the serv ice area, you cannot make or receive voic e calls.
Y our Phone 11 Appears when the phone’s profile is set to Silent . This indicates that the phone’s inco ming Alert type is set to vibrate only. This icon is ac companied on screen by the Mute icon. Appears when the phone’s profile is set to Driving .
Y our Phone 12 Appears when the speakerphone feature is being used during an active call. Shows the level of your battery. The more bars you see, the more power you have remaining.
Y our Phone 13 Backlight The backlight illumina tes the display a nd the keypad. Whe n you press any key or open the phone, the backlight turns on and remains on for a given period of time, depending on your setting in the Backlight menu.
Getting S tarted 14 Getting Started SIM card information Your Subscribers Identity Module (S IM) card contains your wireless information to authorize your GSM device to make and receiv e calls and use services on the Rogers Wireless networ k. For more information, refer to the "Your S IM Card and Service Agreement" in the box.
Getting S tarted 15 Installing the SIM card Important! The SIM card and its contacts can be easily damage d by scratches or bending. Use caution when inserting or remo ving the card and kee p all SIM cards out of reach from children. Make sure the gold contacts of th e card face into the phone, then slide the SIM card into the socket.
Getting S tarted 16 2. Press the battery down unt il it clicks into place. M ake sure tha t the battery is properly installe d before switching on the phone. 3. With the battery in position on the phone, place th e cover back on the handset and sl ide it in until it clicks.
Getting S tarted 17 Charging the battery Your phone is powered by a rechar geable Li-ion battery. Use the travel adapter to charge the batt ery, and use only Samsung approved batteries and chargers. Note: You must fully charge the battery before using you r phone for the f irst time.
Getting S tarted 18 2. Plug the adaptor into a standard AC wall outlet. When charging is finished (the battery icon beco mes still), unplug the adaptor from the power outlet.
Getting S tarted 19 Switching the phone on or off Do not turn the phone off while tr ansferring files between locations or devices. 1. Open the phone. 2. Press and hold the key until the phone switches on. 3. If you are prompted to ente r the phone password, enter the password and press the OK soft ke y.
Call Functions 20 Call Functions Selecting functions and options The roles of th e soft keys vary depending on the function you are currently using. The labels on th e bottom line of the display just above each key in dicate their current role. Use the Left soft key to do the following: ♦ In Idle mode, press to access the Rogers Musi c Player.
Call Functions 21 Use the Right soft key to do the following: ♦ In Idle mode, press to access the Internet . (See “Internet” on page 63.) ♦ When using other features, such as the web browser, the right soft key performs a context-s ensitive action such as displa ying the Back option.
Call Functions 22 Making corrections when dialing numbers Ending a call When you want to end your call, briefly press th e key or close the phone. Redialing the last number The phone stores the numbe rs you have dialed, receive d or missed if the caller is identified.
Call Functions 23 3. By default, the Al l calls list is displayed, showing all numbers made, received or mi ssed. Scroll le ft or right to access either your Missed calls , Calls made , or Calls received . 4. Use the up and down navigation keys to scroll through the numbers until the number y ou want is highlighted.
Call Functions 24 2. Press the key or the Accept soft key t o answer the incoming call. ♦ When the Any key option in the Answering mode menu ( Menu 9.5.1.4 ) is activated, you can press any key t o answer a call except for the key and the Reject soft key.

Saving a missed call number Note: When the number for the missed call is not available , the View option is not displayed.
Call Functions 26 Deleting a missed call 1. Press the Option s soft key. 2. If necessa ry, press the up or dow n navigation key to highlight the Delete option. 3. Press the Select soft key to delet e th e currently highlighted ( Selected ) call or All to delete all y our missed calls.
Call Functions 27 Options During a Call Your phone provides a number of fe atures that you can use during a call. During a call, press the Options soft key to access the fo llowing: ♦ Switch to headset/phone : Lets you switch between a Bluetooth headset and the phone during a call.
Call Functions 28 ♦ Switch to video call : Changes the call from a voice call to a video call if supported and if the person on the line is properly equipped. For more information on video ca lls, see “Video Cal ling” on page 33. ♦ End call : Allows you to end the current call .
Call Functions 29 Switching the microphone off (Mute) You can temporarily switch your phone’s microphone off so that the other person on the call cannot hear you. For ex ample, you wish to say something to another person in the room but do not want the person on the call to hear you.
Call Functions 30 4. To add a new person to the multi-pa rty call, call the person in the normal way and pre ss the Options soft key. Select the Join option. You can also add incoming callers by answering the call, pres sing the Options soft key, and selecting the Join option.
Call Functions 31 Sending a sequence of DTMF tones You can send the DTMF tones afte r entering the entire number you need to send. This op tion is helpful for entering a password or an account number when you call an automated system, like a banking service.
Call Functions 32 Call waiting You can answer an incoming call while y ou have a c all in progress, i f your network supports this ser vice and you have set the Call waiting option ( Menu 9.5.2.3 ) to Activated . For further details about call waiting, see “Call settings” on page 159.
Video Calling 33 Video Calling Video calling allows you to see and hear the person you are talking to in real-time from your video calli ng capable handset to another video calling capable handset. Both phones must be located within a UMTS/ HSDPA cov erage area.
Video Calling 34 4. When you want to end your call, briefly press t he end key or close the phone. Receiving a video call When somebody requests a video ca ll with you, the phone rings and displays the incoming video call ima ge. When the caller can be identified, the caller’s phone number or name, if stored in your Contact list, is displayed.
Video Calling 35 Options During a Video Call Your phone provides a number of fe atures that you can use during a video call. The Options soft key contai ns all the video call features and a menu bar at the bottom of th e video screen display contains the most popular features.

Entering T ext 39 Entering Text When using your pho ne, you will ofte n need to e nter text, such as when storing a name in the Contac ts list, creating your personal greeting or scheduling events on your calen dar. You can ente r alphanumeric characters by using your phone’s keypad.
Entering T ext 40 Changing the text input mode To change the te xt input mode: ♦ Press and hold the key to switch between : Alphabet mode and : T9 mode. ♦ Press the key to cycle betwee n upper and lower case (for both T9 mode and Alphabet mode) and for : Numeric mode.
Entering T ext 41 To enter a word in T9 mode: 1. When you are in T9 mode, start entering a word by pressing the 2 to 9 keys. Press each ke y only once for each letter. Example : To enter “HELLO” i n T9 mode, press t he , , , and keys. The word that you are typing appears on the displ ay.
Entering T ext 42 4. Press the Add soft key. The word is added to the T9 dictionary and becomes the first word fo r the associated ke y presses. ♦ To enter periods, hyphens or apos trophes, press the key. T9 mode applies grammar rules to en sure that the correct punctuation is used.

Menus 52 Menus The navigation key on your phone allows you to scroll through menus quickly and easily. The scro ll bar at the right of the menu keeps track of your positi on in the menu at all times. ♦ To navigate through a menu, simply press the navigation key up or down.

Internet 66 Empty cookies The Empty cookies menu ( Menu 1.5.2 ) lets you empty all the stored cookies from your brow ser. Cookies are text files given to your browser by a web serve r. Cookies are primarily used to identify users for later visi ts to the web site that pr ovided the cook ie.
Internet 67 Browser settings Browser settings ( Menu 1.6 ) let you set up a nd choose different profiles for the Internet browser. To change your browser profile: 1. In Idle mode, press the Menu soft key to access Menu mode. 2. Highlight Internet and press the Select soft ke y or the key.
Media 68 Media The Media menu ( Menu 2 ) is used to manage your collection of ring tunes, graphics, videos, music and other f iles. as well as recorded audio files. Files are or ganized in a ser ies of named folders, but you can create addit ional folders or folders within folders to further organize your files.
Media 69 ♦ Other files : Contains files that you have saved to this folde r. By default, the cale ndar files you save are saved to this loca tion. For more information, see “Other files” on page.

Camera 81 Taking photos The phone is equipped with two came ra lenses. One is located on the front cover of the phone. The other is located on the inside of the phone. You can launch the camera a nd take a photo while the phone is open or closed. Taking a photo with th e phone open 1.
Camera 82 Taking a photo with th e phone closed 1. Press and hold the camera ke y on the right side of the phone. 2. Position the shot on the fr ont LC D screen. You can flip the image left and right or up an d down us in g the volume key on the left side of the phone.
Camera 83 ♦ Timer : Allows you to add a delay time before the came ra takes the photo. Select the le ngth of time you want. When you press the camera key , the ca mera takes the photo after a specified time. ♦ Record video : Launches the camcorder so you can take a video.
Camera 84 ♦ Effects : Allows you to change the color tone or apply special effects to the photo. ♦ Partial effects : Lets you perform redeye repair and apply a partial blur effect. ♦ Adjust : Lets you adjust light, c ontrast and co lor settings.
Camera 85 Recording videos The camcorder allows you to take videos. Your came ra produces 3gp video files. To record a video: 1. Press Menu 2 to ac cess Media tools. 2. Scroll down to Media applications and press the key. 3. Press the Select soft key for the highlighted Camera item.
Camera 86 Using the Video options in Record mode In Record mode, you can use vari ous options for the camera by pressing the left soft key. The following options are available: ♦ Record video : Starts recording. ♦ Switch camera : Lets you switch betwee n using the lens on the front of the phone and the lens on the inside of the phone.
Media player 87 ♦ Lock/ Unlock : Prevents a video in your video album from being accidentally dele ted. You must unprotect a vi deo before d eleting it. ♦ Bluetooth visibility : Allows other Bluetooth-enabled devices within range to download copies of your video.
Media player 88 Adding songs to your phone Before you can play s ongs on your phone, you must load songs from your computer on to the phone’s in ternal memory or onto a microSD card. You can add songs via a Blue tooth connection, a microSD card reader or via USB connection.
Media player 89 Using Playlists Playlists are organized groups of songs. Your playlis t can contain up to 30 songs. Press the Options soft key for the following options: ♦ Play via : Lets you listen to the selected song on the Phone or a Bluetooth stereo headset .

Games & Ap ps 94 Games & Apps From this menu ( Menu 3 ), you can play game s already stored on your phone, and download additi onal games and applications. Download games This option allows you to downl oad games from your servic e provider. Follow the online instru ctions shown on your display screen.
Games & Apps 95 GameloftMEGAHits This option allows you to try out a selection of popular game demos. Follow the online instructions shown on your display screen. Wheel Of Fortune 2005 This game demo is based on the popular Wheel of Fortun e game show.
Call History 96 Call History In this menu ( Menu 4 ), you can: ♦ view calls you missed, re ceived or dialed ♦ check your voice mail ♦ add phone numbers from your ca ll history to your Speed Dial.
Call History 97 Missed calls This menu ( Menu 4.2 ) lets you view the las t 30 numbers of the calls you received, but did not answer. Use the navigation ke y to scroll through the list, and press the key to view call details. The number is displayed along with the time and date when the call was made.
Call History 98 The following options are available: ♦ Connect to voice mail : Before using the v oice mail fe ature, you must have a valid voice ser ver num ber configured in you r phone. Your service provider may have configured the number for you already or you have to enter the voice server number obtained from your service provider.
