Getting Started 4 Section 1: Getting Star ted This section explains how to st art using your SCH-r450 phone by activating your service, setting up your Voicemail, or getting an understanding of how this manual is put together .
5 1. Insert the top end of the battery first, matching the gold contacts on the inside of the batte ry to those on the phone. 2. Press lightly on the bottom e nd of the batte ry do wn into the phone un til it slips i nto place. 3. Press lightly down and inward on th e bottom of t he battery cover .
Getting Started 6 Use th e Trav el Adap ter The travel adapter included with your phone is a convenient, light-weight charger that rapidly charges your phone from any 120/220 VAC outlet. 1. Plug the large end of the T ravel Adapter into a standard 120 V AC or 220 V AC wall outlet.
7 3. Once the phone finds a sign al, the time, date, and da y appear near the top of the di splay . 4. Y ou’re now ready to pl ace and receive calls. Note: If you are outside of your carrier’ s coverage or roaming area, the No Service icon ( ) appears at the top of the phone’s display .

15 Understanding the Display Screen 1. The top line of your phone’ s display contains icons that indicate network status, battery power , signal strength, connection type, and more. 2. The center portion of the display shows information such as call prog ress informatio n, messages, and photos.

17 Lock Mode When the phone is in Lock Mode , restrictions are placed on phone use. Y ou can receive calls and messag es, but cann ot place outgoing calls (except for emer gency number s) unt il you unlock the phone. Lock Mode also rest ricts access to menus and the volume key .
Understanding Y our Phon e 18 • T o disable Speakerphone Mode: 䊳 Press and hold until “ Speakerphone Off ” appears in the display . Note: Y our phone automatically enters Speakerphone Mode when you dial a call using the QWERTY keypad and the called phone begins ringing.
19 Camera Mode Camera mode lets yo u activate your phone ’ s cam era to take pictures. In Camera mo de, you can also adjust the resolution and appearance of your pictures.
Call Functions 20 Section 3: Call Functions This section provides procedur es for making and answering calls. This section al so describes features, such as call logs and call timers, that help you make calls and manage your call time. Note: The procedures in this section can be performed using the phone keypad or the QWERTY keypad.
21 Man ual Paus e Calling T o manuall y call a number with pa use(s) without stor ing it in your Contacts list: 1. In standby mode, enter the number you wish to call. 2. Press the Options soft ke y . The f ollowing pause opt ions appear in the display: • 2-Sec P ause — A 2-second pa use after which dialing re sumes.

Press and hold the number key representing th e third digit of the desired Contact’ s speed dial number . Example: T o speed dial the Contacts entry assigned to speed dial 325, press or , press or , then press and hold or .
23 4. Say “ Ye s ” t o confirm the name or “ No ” to hear the next name, or use the keypad to se lect the correct name from the list. (See “Ch oice Lists” on page 71, for more information.) • Press the Repeat soft key to say the name again.
Call Functions 24 • If you voice dial a contact that contains W ait(s), wait for the appropriate prompt(s) from the number you are calling (credit ca rd number , bank account number , and so on) and enter the appropriate response(s).
25 Tip: Y ou can also enter the Vol u me > Voice Calls sub-menu from standby mode by pressing or , then selecting Settings ➔ Sound Setting s ➔ Vol u me ➔ Voice Calls . Use the Volume key on the right side of your phone to adjust the ringer volume setting.
Call Functions 26 Silence an Incoming Ring T o temporarily silence the in coming call ri nger: 䊳 While your phone is ringing, pres s the V olume key ( ), on the left side of the phone, up or down. Ignore an Incom ing Call Ignored calls are immedi ately forwarded to Voicemail.
27 Outgoing Ca lls The last 90 outgoing ca lls are store d in the Outgoi ng calls log. Review the Outgoing call s log for the time and da te of a call, as well as other information. 1. In standby mode, press or , then select Calls ➔ Outgoing Calls .
Call Functions 28 – Erase — Erase the selected call from your Incomin g calls list. – Lock / Unlock — Blocks/perm its erasure of the select ed call from your Incoming calls list. – Erase all — Erase all unl ocked calls from your Incoming calls list.
29 3. T o Erase al l calls, press the Ye s so ft key . T o keep the calls, press the No soft key . Call Timer View the duration of your last ca ll, total c alls, and calls made during the life of your phone usi ng the Call timer feature. Call timer is not for billing purposes.
Call Functions 30 • Lifetime Data Counter — Shows the amount of data ( in kilobytes) that yo ur phone has transmitted and rece ived since b eing activated. 2. T o reset a timer othe r than Li fetime Data Counter , highlight the timer you want to reset and press the Reset soft key .
31 Section 4: Menu Naviga tion This section explains the men u navigation fo r your phone. Menu Naviga tion Access the menus and sub-menus in your phone using the navigaTion key ( ) , the arrow keys ( , , , ), and soft keys ( or ), or use a shortcut. 1.

33 Section 5: Entering T e xt This section outlines ho w to select the desi red text entry mode when entering characters using th e phone keypad or the nested, QWERTY keyboard-style keypad. Thi s section also describes how to use the T9 predictive text entry system to reduce the number of key strokes needed t o enter text.
Entering T ext 34 Note: T9 Word does not support the QWERTY keypad, which does not need this function. • Abc — Enter letters, numbers, and symbols by us ing the QWERTY keypad or by repeatedly pressing each phone key until the desired character (as shown on the key) appears in the disp lay .
35 T9 W ord recognizes that th e most co mmonly used word for the numeric sequence you just entered is “Samsung.” If more than on e word shares the same numeric se quence, T9 W ord provides the m ost commonly us ed word, any ad ditional words appear in a pop-up win dow , in which you can select a de sired word.

39 Shortcut Key Metho d If you’ve stored a name entry in Contacts, Find allows you to find it quickly. 1. In standby mode, press the Contacts soft key or the Contacts shortcut (Up navigation) key . The Find screen appears in the display with the Go T o field and the first Contacts entry highlighted.

41 Editing a Contacts Entr y Editing Contac ts Name and N umbers 1. Find the Contacts entry you wish to change. See “Find ing a Contacts Entry” on page 38 for m ore information. 2. Highlight the entry and press VIEW ( or ). The Vie w Contact screen appears in the display showing the highlighted e ntry’ s information .
Understanding Y our Contacts 42 T o add pauses to a Contacts entry number , do the following : 1. Find the Contacts entry associated with the number you want to include one or more pau ses. (See “F inding a Contacts Entry” on page 38 for more information.

Select the desired unassigned number type. The Contacts entry information appears in t he display with th e new number posted in the approp riate number type field.

47 1. Create a Contacts entry (see “Ad ding a New Contacts Entry” on page 39 for more inform ation) that you want to add to a Group. – Or – Find a C ontacts entry (see “F inding a Contacts Entry” on page 38 for more information) that you want to add to a Group.

49 Erase a Group The Erase option lets you delete a Group, thus freeing you to reassign the Contacts fo rmerly in th e Group. 1. From the Contacts menu, select Group . The Group List screen appears in the display . 2. Highlight the Group you wish to delete, then press the Options soft key , and select Erase .
@metro 50 Section 7: @metro With @metro, you can download fu ll featured app lications over the air including games, personaliz ed ring tones, pictures, and more. Y ou can send and receive instant messa ges and email, or browse the web to catch up on all the latest news.

@metro 52 Restoring Apps Disabled apps can be quickly rest ored at no additional purchase cost. T o restore an a pp, run the applicatio n you want to restor e from the Main Menu. Y ou will be guided through the restoration process. Expired A pps Apps that were purchased based on the number of uses or time expire.
53 Section 8: Messaging This section explains how to send or receive different types of messages. This section also describes the featu res and functionality associat ed with messaging. Note: Although the procedures in this section are written for the phone keypad, you can also perform these procedures using the QWERTY keypad.
Messaging 54 – Edit Send T o — Edit the recipient’ s number or email address. – Add Quick T ext — Insert p re-composed text in you r message. – Save As Draft — Save the me ssage to your Draft folder . – Priority Level — Cho os e High or Normal .
55 2. Using the display as a viewfinde r , when the imag e that you wish to send appears in the display , press TA K E ( o r ) to take a picture. Note: For more information about using the camera feature in your phone, see “Camera” on page 75. 3. Press Send ( or ) to save the picture and begin delivery process.

57 5. Highlight the PIC: field, then pr ess the My PIC soft key . A photo gallery of thum bnail images appears in the display . 6. Do one of th e following: • Select a picture t o add it to your message . T o expand the highlighted picture for ea sier viewing, press the VIEW soft key .
Messaging 58 • Remove Pic — Remove the pi cture fr om your message . • Remove Sound — Remove the sound file from your message. • Add T o Contacts — Save the recip ient’ s number or e- mail address as a Contacts list entry . Select the des ired option and setting.
59 3. While viewing your message press the Options soft key . The following options appe ar in the display: • Replay — Play the so und file included in the pict ure messa ge again. • Forward — Send a copy of this message to an other recipient .
Messaging 60 • Save Pic — Picture Messages Only — Save the picture included in this me ssage to th e My Image s folder . • Save Quick T ext — Save the text in this message as a new Quick Te x t . • Lock / Unlock — Block/ permit erasur e of the highligh ted message.
61 Review Messages in the Outbo x 1. In standby mode, press the Messages shortcut (Down navigat ion) key or press , then sele ct Outbox . Y our list of sent messages appear in the display . 2. Highlight a message in the li st, you have the following options: • T o r emove the hi ghlighte d message fro m the Inbox, press the Erase soft key.
Messaging 62 Draft Bo x Messages in the Draft Box are t hose that ha ve been composed but never sent. Y ou can return to the Draft Bo x at any time to view , edit, or send a draft message.
63 • Delivery Ack — Cho os e On or Off — Requests conf irmat ion when your message is received. • Add T o Contacts — Save the re cipient’s number or e-mail address to your Contacts. 5. Select an option to perform its functio n. 6. When you have completed composing your message, press SEND ( or ) to send it.
Messaging 64 • T o access other opti ons, press the Options soft key. The followin g options ap pear in th e display: – Send — Send th e highlighted m essage to the number or e- mail address currently include d with the message. – Lock / Unlock — Block/per mit erasure of the highlighte d message.
65 Note: This function erases all messages in the selected message box. T o delete a single message, go to the respective message box, highlight the message, and press the Erase soft key .
Messaging 66 Editing and Entering Quick T e xt 1. In standby mode, press th e Messages shortcut (Down navigation) key or press , then select Msg Settings ➔ General ➔ Quick T ext . The Quick T ext sub-menu appears in the displa y . 2. Select a Quick T ext you want to change.
67 • Signature — Create a signature, whic h can be inc luded at the bottom of outgoing Pict ure message t ext. •R e p l y — Select type of message t o be sent ( TXT Message or Picture Message ) when you reply to Picture messages. 2. MetroWEB 68 Section 9: MetroWEB This section outlines how to launch MetroWEB, how to navigate to other pages on the web, a nd how the keys on the QWER TY keypad are used with the web application. Ad ditionally , links to other sites are briefly discussed.

Voice SVC 72 Sensitivity 1. From t he Voice Settings menu, select Sensitivity . 2. Use the Up and Down navigati on keys to adjust the selected Sensitivi ty setting incrementall y between Reject More spoken commands or names and Reject Less spoken commands or names.

Multimedia 76 Cam era S cree n When you acti vate your phone’ s camera, the sec ond line of the display is reserved for the current camera resolution setting and the picture counter . The center of the display shows a viewfinder image of the subje ct at which the camera is pointed.
77 Self Timer — Delays the camera shutter by either 2, 5, or 10 second s after you press Ta k e ( o r ) . Multi Shot — Automatically takes multiple pictures in sequence after you press Ta k e ( o r ) .

Multimedia 80 Camera Settings Camera Settings (unlike other Came ra Options) do not return to their respective defa ult values wh en you end the current Camera session. Instead, Ca mera Settings apply to future Camera sessions until you cha nge individual Settings values or until you use Reset Settings.

T ools 90 Calendar Calendar allo ws you to vie w the current, past, or future month in calendar format. While v iewing the calendar , the cu rrent date is highlighted, and days with scheduled events are surrounded by a box. View an Ev ent 1. From t he T ools menu, select Calend ar .
91 Add a Ne w Event 1. From the T ools menu, select Calendar . A calendar appears in the display with the current date highlighted. The month and year appear at the top of the display . 2. Press the Add soft key . The New Event screen appears in the displa y .
T ools 92 Memo P a d Create notes and store them in Memo Pad. Notes that you create in Return to Memo Pad anytime to review and edit your notes. Note: Memo Pad can’t be prioritized or assigned an alert. Create a Mem o 1. From t he T ools menu, select Memo Pad .
93 Alar m Clock Y our phone has three alarm clocks that can be set to go off once, or to recur daily at a specific time. O nce set, an alarm clock is easy to change or turn off completely . Note: The alarm doesn’t function when the phone is turned off.
