Introduction 5 Intr oduction Congratulations on your purchase of the Samsung SCH- A670 mobile phone. The SCH-A670 offers a mixture of f eatures such as a high-resolution display , PIM (P erso nal Information Manager) fun c ti ons, a b uilt-in digital camera with flash and video capture capabilities, voice recognition applications, and more.
6 Install the battery This phone comes packaged with a partially cha rged rechargeable standard Li-Ion battery and travel charger . Important! The phone can be used w hile the batter y is charging, but must be full y charged bef ore first use, otherwise you could damage the battery .
Introduction 7 Charge the battery Y our phone is powered b y a rechargeable standard Li-Ion batter y . Only use Samsung-approved charging de vice s and batteries. Samsung accessor i es are designed to maximize batter y life. Using other accessories may in validate your warranty and may cause damage.
8 Understand y our phone The antenna A void touching the antenna while the phone is powered up. Contact with the antenna affects t he quality of your calls and may cause the phone to operate at a higher power le vel than necessar y . Before placing calls , make sure the antenna is fully extended f or best signal quality .
Understand your phone 9 P ower Sa ve mode Unless the backlight setting fo r the LCD has been changed, the backlight dims after a minute of inactivity , and then tur ns off . With P ower sa ve enab led , the backlight is alwa ys dim. After appro ximately one minute of inactivi ty , P o wer sav e turns the backlight off .
10 Right soft key Functions for the right soft k ey ( ) are defined by what appears above it in the display . Some, but not all functions of the right soft ke y are as f ollows: • Press the right soft ke y ( ) Bac k to retur n to the standby mode from an y main menu.
Understand your phone 11 Headset connector The headset connector is the input jack f or the optional hands-free headse t. The head set include s an earbud and microphone in a conv enient, lightweight unit so you can talk without using your hands.
12 Send key The SEND ke y ( ) is used to answer calls, dial calls, and to recall the last number dialed : • Press once to answ er calls. • Enter a number and press once to connect a call. • Press once in standby mode to displa y the most recently dialed number .
Understand your phone 13 Displa y screen icons Signal strength : Alwa ys appears when your phone is on and indicates the current signal st rength. More lines indicate higher signal strength. Service indicator : Indicates a call in progress. When dialing a number , this icon flas hes until the call connects.
14 Alarm cloc k : The alar m clock is set. Silent mode : Indicates your phone is in silent mode. ringer is silenced fo r all aler ts, incoming calls, and incoming messages. The phone alerts you of incoming calls, alerts, or messages by vibration and a flashing Service LED .

16 Standby mode Standby mode is the state of the phone once it has f ound ser vice and is idle. The phone goes in to standby mode: • After you po wer it on. • When you press after a call . In standby mode , you will see the time , da y , and date as well as all other icons.

Get Star ted 19 T urn your phone off • Press and hold for tw o or more second s. Y our phone powers off . If your phone is on and you press for less than one second, the phone will not power off. This pre vents your phone from being turned off accide ntally .
20 Call notific ation fea tures Y our phone notifies you of a call in a variety of wa ys. • Nine ring volume settings including 1- beep, Vibrate , Silent, or Vibrate+Ring. • Diff erent ring types or melodies to distinguish calle rs. • Name display with caller ID .
Get Star ted 21 Caller ID Caller ID allows you to see who is calling you b y displaying the caller’ s number . If the caller’ s name and number are stored in Contacts, the name also appears. If you’v e assigned a picture to the entry , it appears in the displ a y as well.
22 Ignore an incoming call Ignored calls are immediately forwarded to v oice ma il. • During an incoming call, press the left soft key ( ) Ignore . The incoming call is f orwarded to voice mail. V oice Mail V oice mail allows callers to leav e voice messages with your network.

Contacts 31 Contacts Up to 500 entries can be sto red in Contacts. Each entr y can hav e up to fiv e associated phone numbers and two e-mail addresses. Each phone number can be up to 32 digits in length, including h ard pauses, and associated names can be up to 22 characters in length.

Contacts 37 Add pauses Calls to automated systems such as banking ser vices often require a passw ord or account number . Instead of manually entering the numbers, you can store the numbers to Contacts along with special characters call ed pauses. • P pause : Stops the calling sequence until the phon e receives further input.

Contacts 39 Erase individual Contacts entries 1. In standby mode , press the left soft ke y ( ) Menu , then press , fo r Find . 2. Use the navigation k ey to display the search method that you w ant to use ( By Name , By Gr oup , or By Entry ).

42 Assign a picture to a Contacts entry When you assign a picture to a Contacts entr y , the picture that you assigned to the entr y appears in the display when you receiv e a call from the entr y . 1. In standb y mode, press the left soft k ey ( ) Menu , then press , .

Contacts 45 Three-T ouch dialing Memor y loca tions 100 through 500 are special Three-T ouch dialing locations. For e xample, to dial lo cation number 113, press , , then hold unt il the name and number appear in the display and the number is dialed. My phone # My Phone # displays the ten-digit number assigned to y our phone by MetroPCS.
46 Calls The Calls menu retains information about Outgoing, Incoming, and Missed Calls. Y ou can al so view times f or y our last call and the total of all calls. Outgoing The last 20 outgoing calls are st o red in the Outgoing call log. Revie w the Outgoi ng call log for t he time and da te of the call, as well as other inf o r mation.
Calls 47 Incoming The last 20 Incomi ng calls are stored in your phone’ s Incoming call log. Y ou can review the Incoming call log for time and date of the call, as well a s other information. 1. In standby mode , press the left soft ke y ( ) Menu , then press , for Incomin g .

50 Store number s from call logs Store numbers from y our Outgoing , Incoming , and Missed call logs to Co ntacts. Tip: In standby mode, briefly press to display the Recent Calls list. Y ou can then select any call in the list to sav e to Contacts . 1.
Messages 51 Messages Y our phone is able to send and receive te xt and picture messages to compatible phones and de vices. T ext messages can be up to 160 characters in length. Bef ore you send te xt messages, it’ s best to cov er the basics of composing them using the te xt entry mode s of Abc, Symbol, 123, and T9 Word.

54 Receive messages while in a call When you receive a message while in a call, New Message appears in the display along with the closed env elope icon ( ). T o view the message without disconnecting the call: 1. Press the left soft ke y ( ) Ignore to ignore the message and sav e it to your inbox where you can vie w it later .
Messages 55 Change text entr y modes • While composing a text message , press the left soft ke y () Option to d isplay a pop-up menu containing the f ollo wing options. The Canned option is initially hidden in the pop-up menu. Use the navigation k ey to scroll do wn and select this option.
56 • F or practice, enter the word “Samsung” by pressing each of the follo w ing keys only once : , , , , , , S A M S U N G T9 W ord recognizes that the most commonly used word f or the numeric sequence you just entered is “Samsung. ” If more than one word shares the same numeric seque nce, T9 W ord provides the most commonly used word.
Messages 57 • Press the ke y repeatedly until the desired character appears in the display . • P ause br iefly and the displayed character is accepted and inser ted into your message.
58 Symbol Symbol mode enables you to enter symbols such a s @ or % into a te xt message. 1. In standb y mode, press the left soft k ey ( ) Menu , then press , to compose a new te xt message. 2. Enter the phone number of the recipient, then press . 3. Press the left soft ke y ( ) Option to display a pop-up menu containing the following options.

The pix message composer appears in the display with the picture that you just snapped attached. 5. Enter the phone number or e-mail address of the recipient of the pix message.
Messages 61 Y ou ca n record and inser t a voice memo of up to 3 0 seconds in length if you record first before attaching a picture . If a picture is attached before recording, the size of the v oice memo is limited to the amount of remaining memor y .
62 2. Enter the phone number or e-mail address of the recipient using the keypad. Tip: Press the left soft key ( ) Option to displa y a pop-up menu that allows y ou to search your Contacts for a recipient or inser t symbols and le tters into your message .

@metro 75 Charges Charges will apply for netw ork connections. A network connection is used when you are browsing @metro Shop , downloading and restoring apps, or cancelling subscription apps. Charges will also a pply when you use apps that require network connectio ns, such as downloading inf or mati on and sending te xt messages.
76 Disabled Apps Y ou can install new apps ev en if the memor y of your phone is full by partia lly removing (disabling) apps y ou hav en’ t used recently . When you need to use a disabled app , you can restore it at no additional purchase cost. Restoring Apps Disabled apps can be quickly restored at no additional purchase cost.
Mobile Web 77 Mobile W eb This feature ma y not yet be av ailable through y our current ser vice provider . Mobile W eb with MSN ® allows y ou to surf the web from your wireless phone. • Each time you launch Mobile Web , your phone connects to the Inter net and the serv ice indicato r icon ( ) appears in the display .

Camera 81 Camera T ake full color digital pictures, display them on your phone’ s vivid color display , and instant ly share them with family and friends. It’ s fun, and as easy to use as a traditional point-and- click camer a – just take a picture, vie w it on the disp lay , and send it to up to ten people, right from your phone.
82 T ake a video Y our phone is capable of recording shor t videos (and audio) of up to 12 seconds in le ngth. Sav ed videos are stored in the Video Gallery . Depending upon their size, you can store up to 2 videos in the Video Galler y . 1. In standby mode, briefly press the camera ke y on the right side of the phone.

Dela y pictures with t he self timer Self Timer allows y ou to delay a picture long enough so you or the person taking the picture can j oin others in the picture.
86 Use Multi Shot The camera can take multiple pictures in succession at th e touch of a button. The n umber of pictures that you can take depends on the reso lution setting. See “Change picture resolution” on page 87 for more information. 1. In camera mode , press the left soft k ey ( ) Option .
Camera 87 When settings are defined in the camera settings menu ( Menu , ) , the settings are permanently saved. Howe ver , when settings are defined while the camera is in previe w mode (prepar ing to take a picture), the are only active f or the current camera session.

Camera 89 4. Now , any pictures you tak e adopt the theme of the fun frame that you’v e sel ected. Be creative wit h Color T ones Change the look of your pictures with Color T ones. Choose from fiv e availab le settings such as Emboss, Negativ e, and Sepia.

Camera 91 Zoom in on a s ubject Y our camera has digital zoom capabilities of up to x4 in Low resolution mode (x2 in Medium). Pictures may appear some w h at gra in y as you zo om in; this is a normal result of digital enhancement. 1. In camera mode, press the na vig ati on left/right keys to zoom in and out on your subject.
