Getting Started 6 T ext Conv entions This manual provides cond ensed information a bout how to use your device. T o make this possible, the fol lowing text conventions are used to represen t often-used steps: Setting Up Y our Phone Prior to use, it is ne cessary to install both the battery and SIM into their corresponding intern al compartments.
7 Installing the SIM Card When you subscribe to a cellular network, you are provided with a plug-in SIM card loaded with yo ur subscription details, such as your PIN, available o ptional services, and many others features.

Inst alli ng the Batter y T o instal l the batter y: 1. Insert the battery into the opening on the back of the phone, making sure the connectors align (1).
9 Charging a Batter y Y our phone is powered by a rech argeable Li-ion batt er y . The T ravel Charger that is used to ch arge the ba tter y is included with your phone.

15 T roubleshooting If your device has fatal errors , hangs up, or freezes, you may need to c lose all programs o r reset the device to regain functionalit y . • If your device is still res ponsive, but a program is frozen, c lose the program using the T ask Manager .

Home Screen : The starting point for using your device. F or more information, refer to “Home Sc reen” on page 20.
19 Side View of Y our Phone The Vol u m e K e y can be found on the side of your device . It allows you to adjust the ring er volume while in standby mode or adjust the voice volume during a call. When receiving an incoming call, briefly press down either end of the volume key ( ) to mute the ring tone.
Understanding Y our Phone 20 Home Screen The Home screen is the starti ng point for using your device. Place shortcuts, widgets, and ot her items to customize your device to your needs. Note: Unless stated otherwise, instructions in this User Manual start with the device unlocked, at the main Home screen.
21 Extended Home Screen The Home screen consi sts of the Home pane l, plus four panels that extend beyond the display wi dth to provide more space for adding shortcuts, widgets, and folders. Slide your finger horizont ally across the screen to scroll to the left or right side panels.

Y ou can change the Phone, Me ssaging, and Web application shortcuts to any icon that is di splayed in the Applications menu. Understanding Y our Phone 28 Shor tcuts Use Shortcuts for quick access to applications or features, such as Email or other applications. Shortcuts are different than th e current Home screen Widgets that only launch an application. Shortcuts activa te a feature, action, or launch an application.
29 Note: T o move a Shortcut from one Home screen to another , touch and hold the Shortcut, drag it to the left or right, and drop it on the new Home screen. Adding Shortcuts from a Home Sc r een 1. Understanding Y our Phone 30 Re mo ving Shortcuts 1. T ouch and hold the App Shortcut until Remove appears at the bottom of th e screen, then drag the Shortcut to the Remove icon. When the shortcut turns red, release it. Note: This action deletes the icon used to access an app, not the app.

33 Gallery : The Gallery is where y ou view photos and play back videos. For photos, yo u can also perform basic editing task s, view a sl ideshow , set photos as wallpaper or contact image, and share as a pictu re message. For more in formation, refer to “Gallery” on page 88.

Understanding Y our Phone 36 Home Scre en Over view The main Home screen is the star ting point for many applications and functions, and it allows you to add it ems like applica tion icons, shortcuts, folders, or Goog le widgets to gi ve you instant access to in formation and applic ations.
37 Navigating Using Sub-Menus Sub-menus are availa ble when you are at any Home screen or have selected a feature or application such as Phone, Cont acts, Messaging, or Web. T o access a sub-menu: 1. Press the Menu Key . A sub-menu appears at the bottom of the phone screen.

Understanding Y our Phone 40 Mounting the SD Card T o store photos, music, videos, and other applications. Y ou must mount (install) the SD c ard prio r to use. Mounting the SD card establishes a USB connectio n with your computer . Import ant!: Y ou must disable USB stora ge to mount the SD card.

43 Changing the Input Method When entering text, you can se lect the text input meth od. 1. From a Home screen, touch Applications ➔ Settings ➔ Locale and text ➔ Select input method . – or – T ouch and hold an input fiel d until the Edit text pop-up displays, then touch Input method .

45 Editin g Keyboard The Editing Keyboard provides a qui ck way to move the cursor and highlight text. If the applic ation in which you are workin g supports editing, you can cut, co py , or paste highlighted text. T o display the Editing Keyboard: 䊳 Swype from the Swype key to th e Symbols key .

Call Functions 56 Viewing Missed Calls from the Notifications P anel If you have missed calls, displays in the Status Bar . Any calls that you have missed are displayed in the Notifications Pan el . 1. T o displ ay the Notifica tions Panel, sweep your finger downward from the top of the screen.

59 Adjusting the Call V olume During a call, to adjust th e earpiece volume, use the Vol ume key on the left side of the phone . 䊳 Press Up (top of the volume key) to increase the volume level and press Down (bottom of t he volume key) to decrease the vo lume level.
Call Functions 60 Placing a Call on Hold Y ou can pl ace the current call on hold a t any point during a conversation. Y ou can also make another call while you have a call in progress, if your network supports this service. 1. While on a call, touch Hold .

63 Thr ee-W ay Calling (Multi-Party Calling) The Three-Way or Multi-Party feature allows you to ans wer a series of inco ming calls and place th em on hold. If this se r vice is supported by the network, all call s can be joined together . Y ou are notified of an incoming ca ll by a call waitin g tone.
Contacts and Y our Address Book 64 Section 5: Contacts and Y our Address Book This section allows you to manage your daily contacts by storing their name and number in your Address B ook.

A pause is displayed as a comma (,) and a wait is displayed as a semi-colon (;). Contacts and Y our Address Book 68 Finding an Addr ess Book Entr y Y ou can store phone numbers a nd their corresponding names onto your SIM card and phon e’ s onboard memory. Th e two locations are phy sically separate, but are used as a single entity , called th e A ddress Book.
69 If one of your contacts (Amy Sm ith, for example) has a regular email account tha t you maintain in Gmail, but also has a Facebook account under her maiden and ma rried name, as well as a Y ahoo! cha t account, when you m erge these accounts into your Contacts list yo u can join all of her entries and view the information in one record.

85 Viewi ng Photos with the Ima ge Viewer After taking a photo, use the Image viewer to view, share, delete, or edit photos. 1. T ouch Image viewer to view the photo. 2. T ouch the screen to show or hide Ima ge viewer options. 3. T ouch the screen with two fi ngers or double-tap on the screen to zoom all the way in or out.
Multimedia 86 Camcorder Use your device’ s built-in Camco rder to recor d, view, and send videos. Note: The camcorder may not be able to properly record videos to a memor y card with a slow transfer speed. 1. From th e main Home screen, touch Camera .
87 Important!: Do not take videos of people without their permission. Do not take videos in places where cameras are not allowed. Do not take videos in places where you may interfere with another person’ s privacy . Camcorder Options Before you start reco rding videos, use the camcorder options to configure the camcorde r for best results.

91 -S h o w o n m a p : This option displays if a Location exists for the photo. A Location is added to the photo if GPS is enabled i n the Camera settings. T ouch this option to open th e Map app and display the Location where the photo wa s taken. For more information, refer to “Camera Options” on page 83.

93 My Files Music files, photo files, video fil es, and so on, are saved on your memory card. These files are kept in folders. Use the My Files app to manage and view the folders and files on y our microSD card. Note: If you have not installed a memory card, opening My Files causes a message to display: Y our phone does not have SD card inserted.
