Plug the larg e end of the T ravel Adapter into a standard 120 V AC or 220 V AC wall outlet.
Getting Started 6 Install the Batter y Note: Y our phone comes packaged with a partially charged rechargeabl e standard Li-Ion batter y and travel adapter . Impo rtant!: Y ou must fully charge the batter y the first time you use your phone, otherwise you could damage the batter y .

Note: As with any other radio-transmitting device, do not touch the antenna (behind the hinge) while using your phone as this can affect call quality and can cause the phone to operate at a higher power level than is necessar y .
Getting Started 8 Listen to V oicemail 1. In standby mode, press and hold or dial your own mobile numbe r to dial Voic email. (F or more inform ation, refer to “Making a Call — Number Entry Dialing” on page 20..) After connecting, yo u will hear your voice greeting.

Understanding Y our Phone 16 Input mo de Input mode determines how you enter text, numbers, and symbols. While a t any text ent ry screen, press the Left soft key , then choose the input mode from the pop-up menu using the Navigation key . Optional in put modes are T9 Word , Abc , ABC , Sym bols , and 123 .
17 R eceive Messages in Standby Mode While your phone is in stan dby mode, new incoming messages automaticall y a ppear in the screen as they ar e received. Use the Naviga tion key t o scroll through tex t or to view complete ima ges. Ta l k M o d e Y ou can place and rece ive calls only when your p hone is on.

Call Functions 20 Section 3: Call Functions This section explains how to make or answer a call. This section also inc ludes the features and functionality as sociated with making or answe ring a call. Making a Call — Number Entr y Dialing 1. With the phone on, enter the nu mber you wish to call using the keypad.
21 T o manually call a number with pause(s) without storing it to your Contacts: 1. Enter the number yo u wish to call. 2. Press the Options soft key . A pop-up menu containing the f ollowing options appears in the disp lay: • P P a use — a hard pause (awai ts inpu t from you) .
Call Functions 22 Pause Dialing From a Co ntacts Entr y • If you speed dial a co ntact tha t contains four -second (T) pause(s) simply wait for the pauses to pa ss and the dialing to complete.
23 2. Say , “ Call ” . Y ou are prompt ed to “ Say the name or # ”. 3. Speak clearly and say the name of a perso n in your Contacts list, fi rst name followed by last name. If the name is recogniz ed, V o ice Dial re peats the na me and dials the n umber .
Call Functions 24 4. Say “ Ye s ” to confi rm the number or “ No ” to hear the next one, or use th e keypad t o se lect the correct number from the list. (For more information, refer to “Choice Lists ” on page 98..) • Press the Repeat soft key to sa y the name again.
25 Adjusting the Call V olume In standby mode, repeatedly press the volume key ( ) down until the Call Volume Level desired appears in the display . The volume key is on the left side of phone. Calls Log The Calls log retains information about Outg oing, Incoming, and Missed calls.

Call Functions 28 All Calls Y ou can revi ew all of the calls log entries (outgo ing, incoming, and missed calls) for the time and date of a ca ll, as well as other information. 1. In standby mode, press Me nu , then select Calls ➔ All Calls . A list of all lo gged calls a ppears in the display .
29 • Erase — Erase the se lected data call fro m your Data C all log. • Lock / Unlo ck — P rotect the s elected data call fro m being erased. • Erase All — Er ase all ca lls from you r Outgoin g call log.

The following options a p pear in the display: • T r ansmitted — Vie w the total amount of data tran smitted by your phone sin ce the last reset. • Received — View the total amount of data re ceived b y your phone since the last reset .

Menu Navigation 32 Section 4: Menu Na vigation This section explains the menu navi gation for your phone. It also includes an outline of the menus a vailable with yo ur phone. Menu Naviga tion Access menus usin g the MENU-OK key ( ), the Navig a tion key ( ), the soft keys ( ), or a shortcut.

If desired, assign th e new Contact to a Group . This lets you send messages to and find this Contact and other related contacts.

Entering T e xt 48 Section 6: Entering T ext This section outlines how to sele ct the desired te xt inpu t mode when entering characters into your phone. This section also describes how to use the T9 pred ictive text en tr y system t o reduce the amount of key strokes associated with entering text.
49 Entering T ext in Alpha ( Abc) Mode 1. Enter characters while in Alpha (Abc) mode by pressing the key with the de sired charac ters (such as, pressing once for “G”). 2. Press the key repeatedly unt il th e desired character appears in the display (suc h as, pressin g two times for “H”).
Entering T e xt 50 T9 W o rd recognizes that the most commonly used word for the sequence of keys you j ust pressed is “ S amsung.” Tip : T o enter words not likely to be in the T9 Word dictionary , such as uncommon abbreviations or slang, tr y changing the text entry mode from T9 W ord to Abc , abc , or ABC .
51 䊳 While in 123 mode, press the key lab eled with the number tha t you wish to insert into your message. F or example, press to enter the number ‘4’ in your message. Ente ring Symbo ls Symbol mode enables you to enter symbols such as @ or % in a text message.
Messaging 52 Section 7: Messaging This section explains ho w to create, send, receive, and view different types of messages. Thi s section also describ es the features and fun ctionality associated with messaging. Creating and Sending New Messages This section guides yo u through procedu res for crea ting and sending text, picture, and pos tcards.
53 5. At any point wh ile composi ng a mess a ge, you can set message send options by pressing the Options soft key . (For more information, refer to “Message Send Options” on page 59..) 6. Once you’re finished compos ing your message, press SEND ( ) to send your message.

Messaging 60 • If Auto V iew and Auto Scroll are both set to On — An alert sounds (unless turned off) and the mess age text automatically appears in the display and scrolls slowly to the end of the message. (For m ore information, refer to “T ext Messa ge Settings” on page 65.
61 Tip : Y ou can also access your voice mail by selecting an entr y in the Voicemail folder . Message Fol der s Inbo x Received messages o f all types (ex cept Voicemail) are stored in the Inbox. 1. In standby mode, press the Message soft key , then select Inbox , to open the Inbox folder .
