Getting Started 1 Section 1: Getting Star ted This section explains how to start using your pho ne by first configuring your hardw are, activatin g your service, and then setting up your voice mail. Setting Up Y our Phone Prior to use it is ne cessary to install both the battery and SIM into their corresponding internal compartments.
2 Note: If the card is not inserted correctly , the phone will not detect the SIM card. Re-orient the c ard back into the slot if the SIM is not detec ted. Installing the Batter y 1. Insert the batt ery into the openin g on the back of the phone, making sure the connectors alig n (1).
Getting Started 3 R e mo ving and Installing a Memor y Card Y ou can use a microSD (SD) or microSDHC card to expand available memory space if you desire. This secu re digital card enables you to exchan ge images, mus ic, an d data between SD-compatible devices.
4 Installing the Back Co ver 1. Place the battery cover onto th e back of the phone and press down. 2. Press along the edge of the back cov er until you ha ve a secure seal. Important! When placing the cover bac k on the phone, press down firmly along the edges to ensure th at the cover is flush with the phone.
Getting Started 5 Using the T r av el Charger Important! V erify that the handset bat tery is installed prior to connection. I f th e battery is not properly installed and the wall charger is con nected , the handset may power off a nd on continuously , preventing proper operation.

8 Creating a Samsung Account An active Samsung account is re quired to begin accessing applications such as Chat ON and AllS hare Play .T o create a Samsung account at any time: 1. From any Home screen, tap ➔ Settings . – or – From any Home screen, press ➔ Settings .

14 Indicator Icons This list identifies th e symbols you’ll se e on your phone’ s display and Indicator area : Displays your current sign al strength. The greater the number of bars, th e stronger t he signal. Indicates that the Flight Mode is act ive.

Understanding Y our Phone 17 Calculator : Using this feature you can use t he phone as a calculator . The calculator provides the basic arithmetic func tions; ad dition, subt ract ion, multiplication, and division. Y ou can also use this as a scientific calculator .
18 Gallery : The Gallery is where you view photos and play back videos. For photos, you can also perf orm basic editing tasks, view a slidesho w , set photos as wallpa per or contact image, and share as a picture message. For more information, refer to “Gallery” on page 70.

S Planner : With the S Planner applicat ion, you can consult the calendar by day , week, month, ye ar, create events, and set an alarm to act as a reminder , if necessary .

28 Changing the W a llpaper Y ou can change the W allpaper (backgroun d) of your home screens by following these st eps : 1. From any Home screen, touch and ho ld on an empty area of the screen. The Home screen window is displayed. 2. Ta p Set wallpaper for and select the location where you would like to c hange the wallpap er .

32 Memor y Card Y our device accepts a microSD (SD) or microSDHC card to expand available memory space. This secure digital card enables you to exchange imag es, music, and data between SD-compatible devices. This sect io n addresses the features and options of your device’ s SD functionality .

36 Making a Call from the Addr ess Book Y ou can store phone numbers tha t you use regularly on the SIM card or in the ph one’s memory . These entries are collective ly calle d the Address Book . For further details about the Address Book feature, se e “Finding an Address Book Entry” o n page 57.
Call Functi ons 3 7 Dialing Options From the Home screen and Applica tion men us, you have the option to acc ess the Dialer and initiate a call by tapping ➔ Keypad . From the Dialer and t he Co ntacts screen, the following tabs are located at the top of your screen: • Keypad : dials the current number entered using the on -scre en keypad.
38 Note: If there is a voicemail sent by the same number , associated icons are displayed and can then be selected. 2. The Call log is di splayed. Missed calls are identi fi ed by the icon next to the number . Calling Bac k a Missed Call T o call back a missed call number: 1.

42 Switching Betw een Calls When you have a n active call and a call on hold , you may switch between the two calls, changing the one on hold to active and placing the oth er on hold.

44 Switching off the Microphone (Mute) Y ou can temporarily switch your phone’ s microphone off, so that the other person cannot hear you. Example: Y ou wish to say something to pe rs on in the room, but do not want the person on the phon e to hear you.

46 A uto screen of f during calls This option turns on the proximity se nsor during calls so that your phone will know to tu rn the screen off to sav e power . From the Home screen, tap ➔ ➔ Call settings ➔ Auto screen off during calls to create a checkmark a nd enable the feature.
Call Functi ons 4 7 Additional settings 1. From the Home screen, tap ➔ ➔ Call settings ➔ Additional settings . 2. T ap one of the following options: • Caller D : allows you t o choose how your Caller ID will be displayed. Select Network defa ult, Hide number, or Show number .
48 3. At the prompt, enter your old PIN2 code. 4. At the prompt, enter a new PIN2 code. 5. Confirm your PIN2 code. FDN List When this feature is enabled, you can mak e calls only to phone numbers stored in the FDN list on the SIM card. Note: Before you can ma nage an FDN list a list must be created.
Call Functi ons 4 9 2. T ap Receive incoming calls to allow calls to be received while using internet c all. This will use mor e battery power . 3. T ap Add account . 4. Enter the required informat io n. Contact your SIP account representative for the necessary information.
50 Section 4: Entering T e xt This section describes how to select the de sired text input method when ent ering characters into y our phone. This section als o describes the predictive t ext entry syst em that reduces the amount of key stro kes associated with enterin g text.
Entering T ext 51 Changing the T ext Input Mode - K eypad There are two main keypad layo ut keys that will change the on-screen keys within the QWERTY keypad . The available T ext Input modes are: Sym and Abc . Note: When in Abc mode, the Sym button will appear .

If you want to add a phone number that is not a mobile number , tap the Mobile button and select from Mob ile, Home, Work, Work Fax, Ho me Fax, Pager , Other, Cust om (ad d your own label), or Callback.

58 J oining Contacts J oining Contact Infor mation Many people now maint ain multiple email accounts, s ocial networking logins, and other simi la r ac count information. For example, a Facebo ok account lo gin name might differ from a corporate email account login becau se they are maintained separately and for dif f er ent groups of people.

Multimedia 67 Music Play er Options T o access additional options, follow these steps: 1. While in the Music Player , press . 2. The follow options are available: • Add to playlist: allows you to add the current music file to a selected pl aylist. • Delete : delete t he current s ong.
68 • Music auto off : when acti vated, mus ic will auto matically t urn off after a set interval. Using Playlists Playlists are used to group song s in lists for lat er play back.
Multimedia 69 Video Player The Video Player application play s video files stored on y our phone or microSD card. 1. T ap ➔ Video Player . 2. All videos that you have on your ph one and memory card will be displayed. T ap the video that you want to play .

For photos, you can also perform basic editing tasks, vi ew a slideshow , set photos as wallpaper or contact image, and share as a p icture message.
Multimedia 71 For video player controls, see “V ideo Playe r” on page 69. Camera This section explains how to use the camera on your pho ne. Y ou can take ph otographs and shoo t video by using th e built- in camera function ality . Y our 5 megapixel camera produces photos in JPEG format.

74 Focus mode : allows you to set the focus method to Auto focus or Macro. Tim er : allows you to set a tim er for how long to wait before taking a picture. Options includ e: Off, 2 sec, 5 sec, and 10 sec. Effects : allows you to change the colour to ne or apply special eff ects to the photo.
