16 Assemble and prepare your device Before you can use your device, you must install the SIM or USIM card, install the battery , an d charg e the battery. Installing a SIM o r USIM card is optional, but may be requ ired to fully utilise so me applications and store m edia files.

18 Charge battery 1 Open the cover to the multif unction jack on the top of the device. 2 Plug the sm all end of the travel adapter into the device . 3 Plug the large end of the travel adapter in to a po wer o utlet. 4 When charging is finished, un plug the travel adapter fr om the power outlet.
19 Insert a memory card (optional) By inser ting a memory car d, you can store multimed ia files and messages or back up your impo rtant information. Your device accepts microSD™ or microSDH C™‚ memory cards up to 32 GB (depending on memory card manufacturer and type).
20 Attach a hand strap (optional) 1 Remove the battery cover . 2 Slide a hand strap through the slot and hoo k it over the sm all pr ojection. 3 Replace the battery cover .
21 T u rn on your device for first time 1 Pr ess and hold [ ] to tur n on your device. 2 Follow the on-scr een instructions. Y our device will automatically connect to the cellular networ k. Activate Sleep mode You can activate Sleep m ode to save po wer when you do not use your de vice.
22 Use the touch screen You can perform t he following ac tions on your device's touch scre en: • Tap: Touch the screen once to select commands or laun ch applications. • Tap-an d-hold: Tap and hol d an item to see a list of available actions.
23 Disa ble wireless functions 1 Ta p Start > Settings . 2 On the Basic Settings tab, tap Genera l Settings > Wir eless Manager . 3 Ta p next to Phone . • Your device will show on the Today screen. To enable wir eless functions, repeat steps 1-3 above.
