Getting star ted 12 Charg ing the batter y Use the charger t o charge the battery before using it f or the first time. A computer can be also used to charge the ba tter y by connecting them via the USB cable. Use only Samsung-appro ved chargers , batteries, and cables.
Getting star ted 13 • The device can be used while it is char ging , but it may take longer to fully char ge the battery . • If the device receiv es an unstable power supply while charging , the touch screen may not function. If this happens, unplug the charger from the devic e.
Getting star ted 14 U sing a memor y card Installing a memor y card Y our device acc epts memor y cards with maximum capacities of 64 GB. Depending on the memor y card manufacturer and type, some memory cards may not be compatible with y our device . • Some memor y cards may not be fully compa tible with the device .
Getting star ted 15 Removing the memor y card Befor e removing the memory card, first unmount it f or safe remo val. On the Home scr een, tap Apps → Settings → Stor age → Unmount SD card . 1 Remove the back c over . 2 Pull out the memory card. 3 Replace the back cov er .
Getting star ted 16 T urning the devic e on and off Pr ess and hold the Po wer button f or a few seconds to turn on the device . When you turn on y our device f or the first time or after per forming a data reset, f ollow the on- screen instructions to set up your devic e.
17 Basics U sing the touch scr een • Do not allow the touch scr een to come int o contact with other electr ical devices . Electrostatic discharges can cause the touch scr een to malfunc tion. • T o av oid damaging the touch scr een, do not tap it with anything sharp or apply ex cessive pr essure to it with your fingertips.

W idgets are small apps that launch specific app functions to provide inf or mation and con venient access on y our Home screen.

Basics 22 Apps scr een The Apps scr een displays ic ons for all apps , including newly installed apps. On the Home screen, tap Apps to open the Apps scr een. T o view other panels, scr oll left or right, or select a screen indicator at the bott om of the screen.
Basics 23 Indicator ic ons Indicator icons appear on the status bar at the t op of the screen. T he icons listed in the table below are most c ommon. The status bar ma y not appear at the top of the scr een in some apps. T o display the status bar , drag down from the top of the scr een.

Camera 54 4 Show your palm t o the screen or tap to take a photo of yourself . 5 Slowly rota te the device left and then right to take a panoramic phot o . The device combines the photos int o a single panoramic image. • Make sure to keep the blue frame inside the viewfinder windo w .
Camera 55 Rear- cam selfie Use this mode to allo w the camera to detect and focus y our face automatically when you take a self-por trait using the rear camer a. 1 On the Apps screen, tap Camer a → → Rear-cam selfie . 2 Move the frame t o the position where your face will appear and adjust the frame siz e.
Camera 56 Night Use this mode to take a phot o in low-light c onditions, without using the flash. On the Apps screen, tap Camer a → → Night . Animat ed GIF Use this mode to cr eate an animated photo fr om a series of photos. On the Apps screen, tap Camer a → → Animated GIF .
Camera 57 • White balanc e : Selec t an appropriat e white balance , so images have a true -to-life colour range. The settings are designed f or specific lighting situations. These settings ar e similar to the heat range f or white -balance exposure in pr ofessional cameras .
