5 Setting up Unpacking your smartphone Y our new smartphone comes packed in a protective box. Carefully unpack the box and remove the contents. If any of the following items is missing or damaged, con.
6 Installing a SIM or microSD card T o t ake full advantage of your smartphone’s telephony capabilities, you must install a SIM card. The SIM card holders are located on the side of the device. Additionally , you may wish to increase your smartphone’s storage by inserting a m icroSD card in to the slot prov ided.
7 2. Ensure that the microSD card is inserted a ll the way into the ca rd slot and secure the microSD card cover . Micro SIM 3. Insert your fingernail and flip the micro SIM cover ope n. Insert the micro SIM card as illustrated. 4. Ensure that the micro SIM card is inse rted all the way and secure the micro SIM cover .
8 SIM card lock Y our smartphone may come with a SIM card lock, i.e., you will only be able to use the SIM card provi ded by your netwo rk o perator . T o cancel the SIM lock, cont act your network provider . Charging the battery For initial use, you need to charge your sm a rtphone for eight hours.
9 Using your smartphone T urning on for the first time T o turn on your smartphone for the first time, press and hold the Power button until the screen turns on. Y ou will then be asked to configure some settings before you can use your smartphone. Follow the onscreen instructions to comp lete setup.
10 W aking your smartphone If the screen is off and the smartphone does not react to any taps on the screen or front panel buttons, then it has been locked and i s in sleep mode . Press th e Power button to w ake your smartphone. Unlo ck your smartphone by sliding your finger horizontally across the screen (it works both ways).
11 T ap and hold : T ap and hold an item to see a list of actions available for that item. On the pop-up menu that appears, tap the action you want to p erform. Scroll : T o scroll up or down the screen, simply drag your fi nger up or down the screen in the direction that you want to scroll.
12 Swype Swype is a fast way to e nter text. It allows you to typ e with one continuous motion across the screen keyboard; you create a word by d rawing thro ugh letters. Put your finger on the first letter of the word and draw a p ath from letter to letter , liftin g up only af ter the last lette r .
13 Predictive text Both Swype and Google keyboard s provide predictive text input for the browser . As you tap the letters of a word, a selection of words are displayed above the keyboard that continue the sequence of letter s t apped, or are a close match allowing fo r errors.
14 Note: In order to search or browse the internet, you must be connected to a cellular data (if available) or wireless network. See "Going online" on page 29. V oice search If voice search is ava ilab le, tap the microphone and speak your search request.
15 T o view information about the app or widget, drag it to the App info icon at the top of the screen. T o move the item to a different Home scre en, drag it to the si de of the screen, the Home screen will switch to the screen in that direction. Rel ease the item when it is positioned correctly .
16 Changing the wallpaper From the Applicatio n menu , tap Settings > Personalize to change the wallpaper for your lock screen and Home screen. T ap Wa l l pa p e r s to change the lo ck screen and home wallpaper .
17 S tatus and notification area The Notificati on area is at the top of the screen. This area contains a variety of icons to inform you of your phone’s status. The left side of the N otification area displays event icons that indicate a new even t (such as a new message).
18 Battery icons Multitasking Y ou can have multiple apps open at the same time. T ap the Recent button to see recently opened apps. T o open a new app, tap the Home button to return to the Home screen, then start the new app. T o prolong battery life, it is better to close an app when you’ve finished using it.
19 Float apps include: Float Browser , Float Butto ns, Float Calculator, Float Camera, Float Dialer , Float Maps, Float Notes, Float S topwatch and Float T ext. Widgets can also be added to the Float menu by tapping on the Widg ets tab. AcerRAPID The AcerRAPID button is located directly below the camera.
20 Quick T ouch Quick T ouch is a fast and easy way to play music and to unlock the phone. From the Appl ication menu, tap Settings > Quick T ouch . Enable Quick T ouch by tap pi ng On and ena ble or disable Music (Z) and Unlock (I) by t apping On or Off .
21 Managing cont act s Managing your contact s Y our smartphone fea tures an address boo k that allows yo u to save contacts to your phone’s internal memory , yo ur SIM card, or your Google account. From the Home screen tap Phone and tap to view your contacts.
22 Making calls This chapter shows you how to ma ke phone calls, and the various options avail able to you during your call. Before making a call Check that the phone function is on befo re you make a call. Y ou can confirm the phone status from the Notification area.

25 V oice call options Saving a dialed number to contact s Y ou can save a number you have dialed to your contacts for future use. 1. Select the number from the Call log t ab, and tap on the contact .Y ou will then be asked if you want to add the number to your contacts.
26 Messaging This chapter shows you how to set up and use the Phone messages , Social messages and Social events functions of your smartphone. All SMS and MMS messages are accessed via Messaging. Messaging automaticall y arranges received and sent messages into threa ds.
27 Message notifications appear in two places: the Notificati on area and the message icon at the bottom of the phone displays the number of unread text messag es. Ta p Messaging on the Home screen to view the me ssage list or open the Notification area to see a summary of the message.
28 Receiving MMS messages When a new MMS message arrives, a message icon appears at the top of the screen and a notificati on message is di splayed. Note : Downloads can take a long time, depending on your conne ction quality . If you reply or open another applic ation, the download will be stopped.
29 Going online Browsing the internet In order to browse the internet with yo ur smartphone, you must be connected to a data or wireless network. Using the browser T o start browsing, open the Applica tion menu and tap Chrome . T o open a new website, tap the addre ss box at the top of the page.
30 Setting up your Google email 1. Make sure your smartphone is conn ected to a data or Wi-Fi connection. 2. From the Ap plication menu t ap Gmail . If you did not enter your Gmai l account address and password when you first started your phone, follow the onscreen instru ctions.
31 Y ou can browse the store by category o r tap the search icon to search for a specific app. Once you have sel ected an app, t ap the Inst all button to download and install the app. Y ou will be told which services (con tact information, wir e less access, GPS, etc.

36 The camera appli cation will process the images and sa ve a single exten ded image to your smartphone’s gallery . Note: Panoramic image s work best with stat ic outdoor scenes. Objects too close to the camera or wi th large straight edges may confuse the detection process.
37 Advanced settings Changing modes with Quick Mode Y our smartphone contains an app ca lled Quick Mode that makes adjusting the user e xperience for different people very easy . From the Ap plication menu , t ap Quick Mode . The first time you enter Quick Mode, you’ll need to enter a PIN.
38 Putting your smartphone in Airplane mode Y ou can enter Airplane mode (also known as flight mode) to turn off telephone, wireless, and Bluetooth functions and use your smartphone as a handheld devi ce during a flight. Ch eck with your airline to make sure this is pe rmitted onboard.
39 Important : If your phone is in Airplane mode, th e option to turn Bluetoo th on will be disabled. Please refer to "Putting your smartphone in Ai rplane mode" on pa g e 3 8 for instructi ons on turning Airplane mode on or off.
