Getting star ted 10 U sing the SIM or USIM card and ba tter y Installing the SIM or USIM card and batt er y Inser t the SIM or USIM card provided b y the mobile telephone ser vice provider , and the included battery . • Only nano-SIM cards work with the device .
Getting star ted 11 2 Inser t the SIM or USIM card with the gold- colour ed contac ts facing down wards. Use caution not to lose or let others use the SIM or USIM car d. Samsung is not responsible f or any damages or inconv eniences caused by lost or stolen cards .
Getting star ted 12 4 Replace the back cov er . Removing the SIM or USIM car d and battery 1 Remove the back c over . 2 Pull out the ba tter y . 3 Pr ess the SIM or USIM card with your finger , and then pull it out.
Getting star ted 13 Charg ing the batter y Use the charger t o charge the battery before using it f or the first time. A computer can be also used to charge the ba tter y by connecting them via the USB cable. Use only Samsung-appro ved chargers , batteries, and cables.
Getting star ted 14 • The device can be used while it is char ging , but it may take longer to fully char ge the battery . • If the device receiv es an unstable power supply while charging , the touch screen may not function. If this happens, unplug the charger from the devic e.
Getting star ted 15 T urning the devic e on and off Pr ess and hold the Po wer button f or a few seconds to turn on the device . When you turn on y our device f or the first time or after per forming a data reset, f ollow the on- screen instructions to set up your devic e.
Getting star ted 16 L ock ing and unlock ing the screen Pr essing the Po wer button turns off the scr een and locks it. Also , the screen turns off and automatically locks if the device is not used f or a specified period.
17 Basics U sing the touch scr een • Do not allow the touch scr een to come int o contact with other electr ical devices . Electrostatic discharges can cause the touch scr een to malfunc tion. • T o av oid damaging the touch scr een, do not tap it with anything sharp or apply ex cessive pr essure to it with your fingertips.
Basics 18 T apping and holding T ap and hold an item or the screen f or more than 2 seconds to access a vailable options. Dragging T o move an it em, tap and hold it and drag it to the target position. Double -tapping Double -tap on a webpage or image to zoom in.
Basics 19 F licking Flick left or right on the Home screen or the A pps screen to see another panel . Flick up or down to scr oll through a webpage or a list of items , such as contacts. Spreading and pinching Spread two fingers apart on a webpage, map , or image to zoom in a part.
Basics 20 Home screen la y out Home screen The Home screen is the starting point for acc essing all of the device’ s featur es. It displays widgets, shortcuts to apps, and mor e. W idgets are small apps that launch specific app functions to provide inf or mation and con venient access on y our Home screen.

Basics 23 Apps scr een The Apps scr een displays ic ons for all apps , including newly installed apps. On the Home screen, tap Apps to open the Apps scr een. T o view other panels, scr oll left or right, or select a screen indicator at the bott om of the screen.

Network connectivit y 40 Adding Wi - Fi networks If the desired network does not appear in the Wi-F i networks list, tap Add W i-F i net work at the bottom of the list. Ent er the network name in Network SSID , select the securit y type and enter the passw ord if it is not an open network, and then tap Connect .
Network connectivit y 41 Download boost er Use this f eature t o download large files fast er via Wi-F i and mobile networks simultaneously . A stronger Wi-F i signal will provide a faster do wnload speed. On the Apps screen, tap Settings → Download booster , and then tap the Download booster switch to activate it.
Network connectivit y 42 Using the mobile hotspot Use your devic e as a mobile hotspot to share your device ’ s mobile data connection with other devices. 1 On the Apps screen, tap Settings → T ethering and M obile hotspot → Mobile hotspot . 2 T ap the Mobile hotspot switch to activate it.

P ersonalising 61 Changing the scr een lock method Y ou can change the way that you lock the scr een to prev ent others from accessing y our personal information. On the Apps screen, tap Settings → Lock scr een → Screen lock , and then select a screen lock method.
P ersonalising 62 F inger Scanner F or better fingerprint r ecognition When you scan y our finger prints on the device , be aware of the f ollowing conditions that may aff ect the feature ’ s per formance: • The Home button c ontains a fingerprint recog nition sensor .
P ersonalising 63 3 Place y our finger on the fingerprint area at the bottom c entre of the screen. 4 T ap and hold the screen in the fingerprint area, and then drag y our finger downwar ds over the Home butt on. Repeat this action using the same finger until the fingerprint is register ed.
P ersonalising 64 Changing the alt ernativ e password Y ou can change the password that you use as an alt er nativ e to scanning your fingerprints . 1 On the Apps screen, tap Settings → F inger S canner → Change backup passwor d . 2 Scan a register ed fingerpr int or tap Enter backup passw ord .

P ersonalising 66 P rivate mode About priva te mode Use this mode to pr event others from using or acc essing specific conten t, such as images and documents, st ored on the device . Y ou can sav e conten t to a specific location and deactivate private mode to hide it ems securely .
P ersonalising 67 V iewing hidden cont ent Y ou can only view hidden items when private mode is activated. 1 On the Apps screen, tap Settings → Priv ate mode , and then tap the Priv ate mode switch to activate it. A lternatively , open the quick setting panel and tap Priv ate mode to activate it.
