7 Section 1: Getting Star ted This section explains how to get started with your phone by installing and ch arging t he batter y , in stalli ng the SIM card and optional me mor y card, and setting up your voi ce mail. Before using your phon e for the first time , you’ll need to inst all and charge the battery and install the SIM card.
Getting Started 8 Ba tter y Before using your phone for the first ti me, install the batt ery a nd charge it full y . Important !: Before removing or replacing the batter y , make sure the phone is switched off; hold do wn the key until the power - off image displays, then press Po w er o f f .
9 Char ging the B atter y Y our phone is powered by a rechargeable Li-ion ba tter y . A wall charger , whic h is used for charging the battery , is inc luded with your phone. Use only approved batteries and chargers. Ask your local Samsun g dealer for further details.
Getting Started 10 3. When charging is finished, first unp lug the charger’ s po wer plug from the AC wall outlet , then disconnect the charger’ s connector from the phone.
11 1. To install the SIM card , carefully slide t he SIM card in t o the SIM card socket until the ca rd clicks into place. Make sure that the card’ s g old contac ts face into th e phone and th at the upper -left angled corner of the c ard is positioned as shown.

Inst all the me mor y c ard by sliding it into the the slot (3), be ing sure to alig n the gold contact pins on the ca rd with the phone’ s contacts. 3. Gently push the memory card cover (4) down to cl ose, and slide the cover back into the lock pos ition.
13 Switching the Phone On or Off 1. Press and hold the key until the phone s witches on. 2. If the ph one asks you to enter the phone pa ssword, use the ke ypad to enter this pass word and press OK . 3. If the ph one asks for a PI N, use the keypad to enter the PIN an d press OK .
Getting Started 14 Phone Options Phone opti ons is a shortc ut method for putting the phone in Silent mode, Ai rplane mode, or turning the phone power off. 1. Press and hol d the key unt il the Phone op tions screen displ ays on the Home pa ge. 2. T ouch one of the f ollo wing options: • Silent mode : turns of f all the phone so unds.
15 Locking a nd Unlocking the Phone By default, the phone lo cks when the backlight turns off. Wh en the device is lock ed, press the Lock button (on the right side of the phone) to un lock the p hone. Y ou can cho o se to configure lock settings to prevent u nauthorized use of your phone.

The display ind ica tes your conne ction status, signal strength, battery status an d time. It also displays notifications, the Widge t bar and a Quick List (or shortcut) bar .

33 Quick Li st The Quick List provide s access to commonly used items, such as Dialer (for making a phone call), Cont acts (accessing the Contacts list), W eb (o pening a browser via web2 go), and Quick List (for appl ica tion ac cess). Some ite ms on the Quic k List are cont ext-sensitiv e.
Understanding Y our Phone 34 Sta tus Bar The Status Bar shows informat ion about the connection stat us, signal strength, phone ba ttery level, and time, and displays no tifications about incom ing messages and calls and oth er actions. This list identifies the icons you’ll see on your phone’ s display screen: Displays the signal strength.

Understanding Y our Phone 38 3D Cube Naviga tion The 3D Cube navigation is another way to quickly navigate a few of th e most visited menu s or applications. When you first launch the C ube (by pr essing the key) both a 3D cube and a quick laun ch menu display .
39 Applica tions offere d on the Cube are: Tips Tips was des igned to work with the web to show you some of the unique f e a tures of your phone. Tips contains user help ab out the following subjects: 1. Open the Widget bar and tap the Ti ps widget. Note: Tips displays in landscape mode only .
Memor y Card 40 Section 3: Memor y Car d Y our device le ts you use a mic roSD ™ (SD) card to expand avai lable memory space . This secure digi tal card enables you to exchange images, music, and da ta between SD-compatibl e devices. This section addresses th e featu res and options of your device’ s SD functionalit y .
41 3. Connect the USB cable to the phon e a nd connect the cable to the computer . As soon as the co nnection is establ ished a drive letter is assigne d to the flash stora ge and the “ USB connected ” message displays at the top of the phone. 4. F rom the Home screen, pull down the Notification window .

45 Using the V oice Dialer Voice dialer is a voic e recognition sof tware used to activate a wide variety of functions on your phone. 1. F rom the Home screen, open the Widget bar and touch the V oice Dialer widget.

49 Amplify v oice 䊳 Press ➔ Amplify v oice . Y our voice amplifies during the call. Web During a call if you sele ct this option you conne ct to the Web. 䊳 Press ➔ Web . Automatic screen lock If you configured your phone with the Automatic scre en lock option, during a ca ll your screen l ocks to prevent accidental screen presses.

The two call s are now joined i nto a multi-party ca ll and display in the orde r in which they were called. Important !: A maximum of two callers can be joined to a single multi-party line.

Call Func tions and Contac ts List 54 Storing a Number on th e SIM Card The default storage location for saving phone nu mbers to yo ur Contacts list is your p hone’ s built-in memory . T o save a number to your SIM ca rd, you need to change the Save new contacts to option first.
55 2. When you l ocate the en tr y , press the key to di al the numb er . My Profile My Profile contains your contac t in forma tion, and can be se nt to rec ipients as a Virt ual Business Card (V-card) at tachment. My Profile is the first Contac t listed in the Contacts list.

For more info rmation, refer to “Delet e” on page 52. Y ou can delete all your ent ries from your p hone’ s memor y , your SIM card, FDN, or All.

59 Speed Dialing Once you have stored phone numbers from your Contacts Li st, you can set up to 8 speed dial entries and then dial them easily whenever you want, simply by touching the a sso ciated numeric key . F rom the Home scre en, to speed dial the numbers assigned to keys (2 to 9), touch and hold the app ropr iat e ke y .
Entering T ext 60 Section 5: Entering T ext This section outlines how to se le ct the desired text inp ut mode when enteri ng characters into yo ur phone. This section also describes how to use the T9 predicti ve text entr y system to reduce the nu mber of key stroke s associa ted with entering text.
61 Changing the T ext I nput Mode When using your phone, you ofte n need to enter text, such as wh en storin g a name in your Contacts List, creating your personal greeting or scheduling ev ents on your calendar . Y ou can enter alphanumeric characters by using your phone’ s keypad.
Entering T ext 62 toggle between Symbol/N umeric, or ABC mode. Using T9 Mode T9 is a predictive text in put mode that allows you to key in any character us ing single keystrokes. This text input mode is based on a built-in dictionary . T o enter a word in T9 mode: 1.
63 If the word doesn’t display correctly , other word choices display on th e screen from which to choose. If thes e choices do not inc l ude the word you want to use, add a new word to the T9 dictionary . 4. Insert a space by touching Space and start entering the next word.
Entering T ext 64 The 123 mode enables you to ente r numbers into a text message. 䊳 T ouc h SYM/123 then press the numeric keys you want to enter . Using ABC Mode T o use ABC mode: 1. T ouch ABC until the keypad displays. 2. T ouch the key labeled with the letter y o u want.
65 Section 6: Messages This section describes how to send or receive d ifferent types of messages. It also explains the features and func tionality associa t ed with messaging.
Messages 66 T ext Messages Short Messa ge Ser vice (S MS) allo ws yo u to send and receive short text me ssages to and from other mobile phones. The Message icon ( ) displays when yo u receive a new t ext messa ge. When the me mory is full, the me ssage icon flashes on your phone and you cannot receive any new messages.
67 Ti p: Tilting the phone to a horizontal position displays a QWERTY keyboard . Note: For further details about entering characters, see “Using T9 Mode” on page 62. T ext messages are one pa ge long with a total of 640 characters. When your message exceeds 640 characters, the message type automatically changes to Picture messa ge.
Messages 68 Sa ving a Messag e as a Draft 1. From the Home screen, open the Wi dget tray and ta p the Messaging widget, then tap New messa ge . – or – F rom the Home screen, touch Quick Lis t ➔ Messaging ➔ New message .
69 Picture Messa ges This menu allows you to use the Mu ltimedia Message Service (MMS). Picture messaging is a messaging ser vice that prov ides delivery of personal multimedia me ssages from phone t o phone or from phone to email.
Messages 70 Ti p: Tilting the phone to a horizontal position displays the QWER TY keyboard, while holding the phone in the vertical position displ ays the numeric keypad. T ouch Writing langua ge, then select the language to change the input langua ge.

Messages 74 – ISO : allow s you to adjus t the ISO sen sitivity of th e came ra imaging se nsor . Sele ctions are: ISO Auto, ISO 5 0, ISO 100 , ISO 200, ISO 400, or IS O 800 speed. – Imag e Quality : allows you to set the image qualit y to: Normal, Fine, or Supe r Fine.
75 When you ente r the folder , the list of messa ges displays with the se nder ’ s phone numbers, or names, if available in your Cont acts list as wel l as th e time the me ssage was re ceived. If the folder is full when a new messa ge is re ceived or se nt, or the SIM card is full, the message saves to the phone.
Messages 76 •M e m o : allows you to attach a memo to this message. Note: When your message exceeds 160 characters, a page is automa tically added. If you add a page using the ➔ Add Page feature, or you Attach an item or modify the message in any way using the key , then the message type automa tically changes to Picture message.
77 Email Email enab les you to revi ew and create email us ing AIM ® , AOL ® , Y ahoo! ® Mail, Comcast, Compu ser ve, Earthlink, Gmail, HotPOP , Juno, Mac, NetZero, S BC Y ahoo!, V erizon and several other emai l services. Y ou can al so receive text message alerts when y ou receive an important ema il.

T ime Management 86 Section 7: Time Man a gement This section descri bes how you can manage time using time-related a pplications such as the Calendar , Alarm Clock, Ana log or Digit al clo ck, and the W orld c lock. Calendar With the Ca lendar feature, yo u can: • Consult the calendar by day , week, or month.
87 • S ettings : allows you to se lect the Starting day for this calendar as well as whether you view the calendar by Month, W eek, or day . • My calendars : displays the created calendars i n a list. • Missed alarm events : displays a li st of missed alarm events.

Google T alk Google T alk is a free W indows and we b-based applica tion for instant messa g ing offered by Google. Conversation logs are a utomatically saved to a Cha ts area in your Gmai l account.
