Fir st Things First 4 Step 1: Unp ack the Bo x The following items come packed in the box: • VCR • Remote control • RF coaxial cable STEP 2: Inst all Ba tteries In the Remote C ontrol Follow these steps whenever you need to install or change the batteries in your VCR remote.
Fir st Things First 5 STEP 4: PLUG IN THE VCR Match the wide blade of the plug with the wide slot in the outlet. Be sure to insert the plug completely . STEP 5: TUNe THE TV T une the TV to the VCR viewing channel. The VCR viewing channel is channel 3 or 4 or the TV’ s video input, depending on the connection you’ve chosen.

7 Setting Up the VCR Set-up fea tures Belo w is a list of features that y ou ma y want to set up befor e you begin using y our VCR for the first time .
8 Setting Up the VCR USING THE MENU to set up fea tures Y ou can set up features by using the menu system. The featur es you may want to set up before you begin using your VCR are explained in this section. langu age Select your preferred language, and the on-screen displays will appear in that language.
9 Setting Up the VCR CABLE BOX SETUP Do you use your cable box to receive ALL channels or only SOME Channels? 1 ALL channels 2 Only SOME channels 3 Cancel setup 4. If you selected ALL channels, enter the output channel of your cable box, usually 03, 04, or video line input and press MENU.
10 Setting Up the VCR VCR CHANNELS LIST If you use a cable box for all channels , this step is not necessary . Y our VCR may come with a channel list pr eset at the factory . Even though your VCR may come with a list, it’ s possible that you may want to add or eliminate some channels depending on whether they are active.
11 Setting Up the VCR AUTO CHANNEL SEARCH Now scanning channel 14 Press any key to cancel The VCR begins scanning for the available channels—this takes about one to two minutes. The lowest channel is tuned once the search is complete. Now pressing CHANNEL up or down should only select the active channels.
12 Setting Up the VCR Time and D a te The VCR gives you two ways to set the time and date. The Auto Clock feature which enables the VCR to update the clock each time you tur n off the VCR. The Auto Clock feature is advantageous because it updates the time for you automatically .

14 Setting Up the VCR SET THE TIME AND D A TE Manuall y If the AUTO CLOCK SET was unsuccessful, set the clock through the menu option. The AUTO CLOCK SET feature is set to OFF automatically when you set the clock this way . 1. Press MENU to display the VCR MAIN MENU.

16 Setting Up the VCR *Check your local or cable listing for the channel number you r eceive this station on. **Check your local listing for br oadcast or VCR Plus+ channel number assigned.
17 Setting Up the VCR REMOTE VCR1/VCR2 Option If you own a compatible RCA, GE, or ProScan remote that has a VCR2, VCR2•LD, or VCR2•DVD button, this feature allows you to set this VCR to respond to that button. Press 1 to select the Remote Control item.
18 Setting Up the VCR The VCR will only r espond to the compatible r emote’ s VCR2, VCR2•LD, or VCR2•DVD button. If you change the remote setting to VCR2, the remote that came with your VCR will no longer control it. Use the compatible remote to change the remote setting back to VCR1.
19 Setting Up the VCR Front p anel (vcr displa y) Y ou can change the brightness level of the fluorescent display panel on the front of the VCR. Press 4 to switch between the options. • AUTO brightens the display when the VCR is on and dims the display when the VCR is of f.

21 VCR BA sICS learn the b asics To get y ou st arted These VCR basics should be enough for y ou to begin enjoying y our VCR. Learning the r emote contr ol functions, pla ying a recor ded tape , and r ecording a program should do just that.
22 VCR Ba sics Remote Buttons The remote control is capable of controlling your VCR and many brands of televisions. If you have an RCA, ProScan, or GE TV , you may be able to control it without having to program the remote. C omponent Butt ons OFF T urns off VCR when r emote is set to contr ol the VCR.
23 VCR BA sICS Numbers (0 thr ough 9) Select a channel up to 99 by pressing two numbers. Select a cable channel over 99 by pressing and holding 1 until 1 – – appears on the screen. Then press the other two numbers. OFF T urns off the VCR when the r emote is set to control the VCR.
24 VCR Ba sics Pla ying a T ape 1. T une the TV to your VCR viewing channel (3, 4, or TV’ s video input). 2. Insert a tape in the VCR. POWER EJECT CHANNEL TRACKING TV•VCR INPUT RECORD STOP PAUSE FWD REV PLAY•PAUSE If the Auto Play feature is set to ON, the tape automatically begins playback (if the safety tab on the cassette is removed).
25 VCR BA sICS Check the Safety T ab No matter which recording option you use, you need to make sure there is a tape in the VCR, and that the tape’ s safety tab is in place. Y ou cannot record on a tape with the safety tab removed. If the safety tab is removed and you want to record over it, simply cover the hole with vinyl tape.

28 REC ORDING Recording fea tures There are four ways to record programs: • Recording lets you press one button to start recording a program. (See VCR Basics section.) • Express Recording lets you start recording a program you are watching, and then set the VCR to automatically stop recording after a designated period of time.

36 Programming the Remote Using the Remote with a TV Y our remote can control most RCA, ProScan, and GE TVs. T o use the remote with other manufacturer’ s brands, it must be programmed. If the TV does not turn on when you press the TV button, the remote needs to be programmed.

38 OTHER FEA TURES C OMMERCIA L ADV ANCE COMMERCIA L AD V ANCE is a patented technolo g y that detects and marks most commercials on your tape for any recording that is more than 15 minutes long. After recording, the VCR rewinds the tape to the beginning of the recording and determines where the commercials are located.

41 OTHER FEA TURES 1. Insert a tape that has been previously recorded. 2. Press 4 to select the Mark an unmarked tape feature. 3. Position the tape where you want the marking to start using PLA Y , FWD , and REV buttons. Set the tape to the point at which you want to start marking.

Pressing 2 or 3 gives the same response and takes you to a diff erent sear ch f eature . If y ou accidentally make a wr ong selection, press GO BACK to return to this screen.

44 OTHER FEA TURES FRAME ADV ANCE Frame advance lets you view one-stop action frame after another during playback. Frame advance works best for tapes recorded at the SP or SLP speed. 1. Pr ess P A USE to “fr eeze” the action. 2. Pr ess F.AD V each time y ou want to vie w a frame of the scene .

46 OTHER FEA TURES ON-SCREEN DISPLA YS The INFO button sho ws the status of the VCR (ST OP , PLA Y , RECORD , etc .), channel n umber , time counter , date , time , and tape speed on the TV screen. The date and time must be set before they can be displayed.
