page 11 Y ou do not need an y special knowledge or experience to set up the treadmill. How ev er , you will need assistance. Because of the siz e and weight of the treadmill, it is recommended that at least three adult persons assemble it. Installation Requirements Follo w these installation requirements when installing the treadmill.
page 12 Diagram 4 Diagram 3 6. Attach the left side upright support to the base assembly . Diagram 3. Locate the left upright suppor t. This is the one y ou want to install first. Place the upright suppor t into the base assembly and align all 5 mounting holes (3 on the side, 2 in the front).

Place the hood ov er the motor and slide it under the upper 4 screws (see Diag ram 11 #1) and over the 2 low er screws (1 found on each side) of both upright suppor ts.
page 17 Diagram 13 Adjust the rear f oot. Impor tant : If you need to mak e adjustments, adjust one rear f oot at a time. Do not use the rear f oot to raise or lower the unit more than 1/4” in height. Check the lev el of the unit after each adjustment.
page 18 Checking the Alignment of the Running Belt The belt is aligned at the factory before shipment. Ho wev er , during shipment or by using the treadmill on an une ven surf ace, the belt might mo ve off center . Proper belt alignment is impor tant because it allows the belt to remain centered and assures smooth operation.
page 19 A special f eature of the M9.55 is its interactive displa y which lets you select a user I.D . (1 of 4) and enter work out specific infor mation such as, w eight, preferred course , and age. Each person that uses the treadmill (up to four people) can hav e their own user I.

A shor t descr ip- tion appears in the left margin with the more thorough explanation f ollowing on the right. Tips to consider dur ing your w or kout are shown belo w: • Check that the unit is turned ON.
page 21 1. For y our hear t rate to appear on the display , you need to wear a POLAR ® chest strap . Refer to Chapter 7 f or more information. 2. Locate the ON/OFF (I/0) s witch at the front of the treadmill and tur n ON the treadmill. The Precor banner appears on the displa y console.
page 22 9. Use the Incline ▼▲ and Speed ▲▼ keys to change the incline and speed during your w or kout. Hold onto the handrail with one hand while y ou touch the ke ys with the other . Note that the ke ys are v er y sensitive, y ou barely need to press the ke y f or a change to occur.
page 23 Using the Quick Start Feature The words “Quick Star t” imply that y ou can star t your workout immediately . Once you attach the security clip to your clothing, pressing Quic k Star t , while your user I.D . is display ed, causes the running belt to star t automatically after the warning message “ Belt Starting 3, 2, 1,.

The running belt slows to a gradual stop . Note that y ou may also press the Speed ▼ ke y until zero appears on the displa y .
page 25 The display console lets y ou control your M9.55 treadmill. The directions on the console and the prompts on the display guide y ou through y our workout session. Before using the treadmill, we recommend that y ou f amiliarize yourself with it so that you can use it saf ely and effectiv ely .
page 26 Changing the User Display Fields When a user I.D . is display ed, you hav e the option to change the WEIGHT , COURSE, and A GE displays by pressing a Change ke y and highlighting the information. If you press the Change k ey to highlight WEIGHT , the inf or mation that appears on the display changes accordingly .
page 27 When the User’ s # or Name appears in the Upper Display and y ou press the Change ke y found directly belo w the WEIGHT indicator , the information in the WEIGHT field begins to blink indicating that the treadmill is a waiting input. Y ou can change the number (from 1 to 999) using the ▲▼ k eys or number k eys.
page 28 Smart Rate ® Displa y Y ou must enter y our “ AG E ” after selecting a user I.D ., and wear a POLAR ® chest stra p, while in a course program, bef ore the blinking segment in the bar gr aph can show which z one y our hear t rate is in: Weight Loss or Cardiov ascular .
page 29 CALORIES: Provides the cumulativ e number of calories currently being bur ned. SEGMENT TIME: Indicates the amount of time, in min utes and seconds (MM:SS), that remain in the highlighted column (or segment) before the ne xt column begins blinking.

page 31 ST OP : When the red Stop button is pressed, the running belt slows to a gradual stop . The treadmill remains in P ause mode. If the lift w as moving when the Stop button was pressed, the lift stops also and remains at its current incline le vel.

page 36 infinite Speed and incline changes are completely under your control. The profile is initially a flat line. Each segment (column) equals 1 minute. If changes are made to the incline, the course profile reflects the changes in all subsequent segments.
page 37 T ype of cour se Description infinite Ev ery time a Random course is selected, a diff erent course profile appears. The 1-minute segments that appear in the course profile maintain a set incline that y ou can override using the Incline ▼▲ ke ys.

page 39 Utilizing the Smart Rate ® Feature Add the benefit of Smar t Rate ® to ev er y course on the treadmill. Using Smar t Rate ® as a visual cue helps you adjust y our ex ercise routine to suit specific needs. Smart Rate ® simplifies the correlation between hear t rate and ex ercise.
