Owner’s Manual: Treadmill Safety Features 10 Entering the Safety Code The treadmill provides a safety code to help prevent unauthorized use. Y ou have the option to enable or dis able the feature using the OPTI ON S key . Refer to S etting Display Preferences Before Exercising .
Owner’s Manual: Treadmill Safety Features 11 Location It is important to keep the area around the treadmill open and free from encumbrances such as other equipment. The minimum space requirement needed for user safety and proper maintenance is three feet wide by six feet deep (one meter wide by two meters deep), directly behind the running belt.
Owner’s Manual: Heart Rate Features 12 Heart Rate F eatures Heart rate and SmartRate ® features are available when you wear the chest strap or grasp both touch-sensitive handrail grips.

Owner’s Manual: Heart Rate Features 15 Using the Heart Rate T ouch-Sensitive Handrail Grips W hile exercising, you must grasp both touch-sensitive handrail grips for a minimum of five to ten seconds to transmit your heart r ate to the display . Refer to Diagram 10.

While your heart rate remains within these zones, the corresponding lights b link and provide a visual cue. The calculation used to determine your maximum aerobic heart rate is (220 minus your age).

W hen you reach your goal, the program ends and the automatic cool- down period begins. After selecting the Distance Goal Progr am, specify your distance goal at the blinking prompt.

Changing the target heart r ate or speed affects the unit’s ability to maintain your t arget heart rate in the preferred zone.
