- 8 - Before Use ∫ When i nner s ide of t he lens i s fog ged (co ndensati on) This unit has been designed to p revent condensation by Anti-fog glass, ho wever it may be cau sed by the en vironment in which the camera is used. It is not a malfunctio n or failure of the camera.
- 9 - Before Use Y our Panas onic Lumix digital still camera is GPS-equipped which can automatically record the precise location coordinates of where the phot o was taken. The specific physical address of this location can eas ily be derived from th is information.

- 11 - Before Use ∫ Handli ng of the camer a • Wat erproofin g is not guarante ed if the unit is subject to an impa ct as a result of bei ng hit or dropped etc. If an imp act to the camera occu rs , it should be in sp ected (subje c t to a fee) by Panasoni c to verify that the wate rpro ofing is still effective.
- 12 - Before Use 1 Check that there are no foreign objects o n the inner side of the side door . • If there is any foreign obje ct, such as lint, hair , sand, etc., on the surroundin g area , water will leak within a few seconds causing mal fu nction.
- 13 - Before Use • Use the camera und erwat er to 13 m (43 feet) with the water tempe rature between 0 o C and 40 o C (32 o F and 104 o F). • Do not u s e for sc uba divi ng (Aqualung). • Do no t us e the ca mera at a de p th of ov er 13 m ( 43 f eet) .
- 14 - Before Use 2 Drain water by ho lding the camera upside down and shaking it lightly a few times. • Make sure to put your hand thr ough the strap to prevent the came ra from fal ling. 3 Wipe off water drop s on the camera with a soft , dry cloth and dry the camera in a sh aded area that is well ventilated.

- 18 - Prepar ation Charging the Bat tery ∫ About batteries that you can use with this unit • Use the dedicate d charger and batt er y . • The batter y is not char g ed when the cam er a is shipped. Charge th e battery bef ore use. • Charge the bat tery with the charg er indoors.
- 19 - Prepar ation ∫ About the [CHARGE] indicat or • When the [ CH ARGE] indicat or flashes – The battery t emperatu re is too hig h or too low . It is rec ommended to c harge the bat tery aga in in an ambient t emperature between 10 o C and 30 o C (50 o F a nd 86 o F).

- 21 - Prepar ation ∫ Record ing moti on pictures • These ti mes are fo r an ambien t t emper ature of 23 o C ( 73. 4 o F) and a humidity of 50%RH. Ple as e be aware that th ese times ar e app roximate. • T ime of record ing without using the GPS fu nction.
- 22 - Prepar ation Inserting and Removing t he Card (optional)/t he Battery • Che ck th at this un it is tur n ed off. • Confirm that there is no foreign objec t. (P12) • We rec ommend us ing a P anasonic car d. 1 1 : Slide the [LO CK] switch A , and re l eas e the l ock.
- 23 - Prepar ation • Remove the battery af ter use. (The ba ttery will be exhausted if lef t for a long perio d of time afte r being charge d. ) • T urn the camera of f and wait for the “LUMIX” dis pl ay on the LCD monitor to clea r before removing the card or batt ery .
- 24 - Prepar ation About the Built-in Memory/ the Card • Y ou can copy the record ed pictures to a card. ( P172) • Memory size: Approx. 10 MB • The access time fo r the built -in memory may be lo nger than the a ccess time f o r a card. The following card s which conform to t he SD video s tandard can be used with this unit.

Furthermo re, do not subject the camera to vibration, imp act or static electrici ty .
- 26 - Prepar ation ∫ About the displ ay of the numb er of recordable pictures an d available recording t ime • Switch the dis play (number of recorda ble pictures, availa ble re c ording time , etc.) by pressing [DIS P .]. (P62) • The number of rec ordable picture s and the ava ilab le recording time are an appro ximation.

- 28 - Prepar ation Setting Date/Time (Clock Set) • The clock is not set when the camera is shipped. 1 Press came ra [ON/OFF] button . • If the lang uage selec t s creen is not displa yed, proce ed to [Require ments for Unde rwater use] below . 2 Press [MENU/SET].

- 30 - Prepar ation Tip s for t aking g ood pictures Hold the camera gently with both hands, k eep you r arms stil l at your s ide and st and with your fee t slightly ap art. • T o prevent droppin g, be sure to attach the supplied strap a nd fit it to your wrist.
- 31 - Basic Selecting the Recording Mode ∫ List of Recording M odes • When the mode has been switched from Pla y back Mode to Reco rding Mode, the p reviously set Recording Mode will b e set. 1 Press [MO DE]. 2 Press 3 / 4 / 2 / 1 to selec t the Record ing Mode.
- 32 - Basic T aking Pictures using the Automa tic Function (Intelligent Auto Mode) Recording Mode: The camera will set the m ost appropriate settings to match the subject and the recording conditions so we recommend th is mode for beginners or those who want to leave the s ettings to the camera and take pictures easily .
- 33 - Basic When the camera identifies the optimum s cene, the icon of the scene concerned is displayed in blue for 2 se conds, after which its color c hanges to the usual red. - 34 - Basic Following menus can be set. • For the setting metho d of the menu, refer to P4 8 . ¢ Settings may be diff erent from ot her Rec ording Modes . ∫ [Burst] (P11 1) [ ] can be set in [Burst]. In this setting, the burst speed is autom atically adjusted based on the movement of the subject.
- 35 - Basic ∫ [iHDR] When [iHDR] is set to [ON] and the re is, for example, s trong contrast between the background and the subject, multiple still pi ctures are recorded with diff ering exposures and combined to create a single still picture rich in gradation.
- 36 - Basic T aking Pictures with Y ou r Favorite Settings (Program AE Mod e) Recording Mode: The camera automatically sets the shutter speed and the aperture value according to t he brightness of the subject. Y ou can take pictures with greater freedom by changing various set tings in the [Rec] m enu.
- 37 - Basic Focusing Aim the AF area at the subj ect, and then press the shutter button halfway . • The AF area may be disp layed larger for certain z oom mag nifications and in dark plac es. ∫ About focus range The focus range is displayed wh en operating the zoom.
- 38 - Basic ∫ When the su bject is not i n focus (such as when it i s not in the center of the composition of the picture you want to take) 1 Aim the AF area at the su bject, and press the shutter button halfway to fix the focus and exposure. 2 Press and hold the shutter button halfway while moving the camera as you compo se the pict ure.
- 39 - Basic Recording Motion Pictures Appl ica ble m odes : This can reco rd full high definition motion pictures com patible with the A VC HD format or m otion pictures record ed in MP4. Audio will be recorded in stereo. 1 St art recording by pressing the m otion picture button.
- 40 - Basic • When a mot ion picture is recorded in a high temperature e nvironment or is reco rded con tinuousl y , the record ing may stop af ter [ ] is displayed t o protect this uni t. • The available re c ording time di splayed on the screen may no t decrease reg ularly .
- 41 - Basic • If you end moti on pictu r e rec ording af ter a short time when using [ M iniat ure Effect] of the Creativ e Control Mode, the c amer a may go on record ing f o r a certain pe riod. Please continue to hold the camera unti l the recording finishes.
- 42 - Basic Playing Back ∫ Playing Back Motion Pictu res Select a picture with a Motion Picture icon (such as [ ]), and then press 3 to play back. - 45 - Basic Select a pi cture with the group pic ture icon ([ ˜ ], [ ]), and th en press 3 . • If you have f iltered images for playbac k by using [S lide Show] (P147 ) or [Filterin g Play] (P149) , the selection s creen appea rs. Pres s 3 / 4 to select [Burst Play]/ [ Sequential Play ], and then press [MENU/SET] .
- 46 - Basic Deleting Pictures Once deleted, pictu res cannot be recovered. • Pictures on t he bui lt-in memory or the card t hat are being playe d bac k will be deleted. • Pictures th at are not in the DCF st andar d or th ose tha t are protec t ed cannot be deleted.
- 47 - Basic • Picture group s are t reated as a single picture. (All the pictures in the selected pict ure group will be del eted.) (P4 4) • Do not turn the came ra of f while deleting. Use a bat t e ry with suffic ient battery power or t he AC adaptor (opt ional).
- 48 - Basic Setting the Menu The camera comes with menus that allow you to choose the settings for taking pictures and playing them back jus t as you like and menus that enable you to have m ore fun with the camera and us e it more eas ily .
- 49 - Basic ∫ Close the menu Press [Q.MENU/ ] until the screen returns to the recording/playback screen or press the shutter button half -way . • There a re fu nctions t hat cannot be set or used de pending on the modes or menu s ettings being used on the camer a due to the specifi ca tions.

- 64 - Recording Using the Zoom Appl ica ble m odes : Y ou can zoom in to make people and object s appear closer or zoom out to record landscapes in wide angle. ∫ Screen display Example of display when Extended Opt ical Zoom (EZ), Intelligent Zoom and Digital Zoom are used together .

- 69 - Recording T aking Close-up Pictures ([AF Macro]/[Macro Zoom]) Appl ica ble m odes : This mode allows you to take close-up pictures of a s ubject, e.g. when taking pictures of flowers. 1 Press 4 [ # ]. 2 Press 3 / 4 to s elect the item a nd then press [M ENU/SET].

- 71 - Recording Compensating th e Exposure Appl ica ble m odes : Use this function when you cannot achieve appr opriat e exposure due to the difference in brightness between the subject and the background. • EV is an abbrevi at ion of [Exposure V alue], a unit indic at ing the amount of expo s ure.
- 72 - Recording T aking Pictures Using Auto Brack et Appl ica ble m odes : In this mode, 3 pic tures are automat ically re corded in the selected exposure compensation range each time the shutter button is pressed. - 73 - Recording T aking picture b y setting the expo sure manually (Ma nual Expo sure Mo de) Recording Mode: Determine the expos ure by manually s etting the aperture value and the shutter speed. The Manual Exposure Assistance appears on the lower portion of the screen to indicate the exposure.

- 75 - Recording T aking Pictures with different ima ge effects (Creative Control Mode) Recording Mode: This mode records with additional image effects. Y ou can set the effects to add by selecting example images a nd checking them on the sc reen. 1 Press [MO DE].
- 76 - Recording ¢ These pic tures are ex amples to s how the effect. This effect emphasizes the color t o make a pop art picture. This effect gives a faded image. This effect adds a bright, airy and soft feel to the overall im age. This effect adds a dark and relaxing feel to the overall image and enhances bright parts.
- 77 - Recording This ef fect creates a se pia image. This effect gi ves a higher contrast to create an impressive black and white picture. This effect gi ves your photo a dramatic contrast look. This effect produces the optimum brightness for b oth dark and b right part s.
- 78 - Recording This effect gi ves your photo a dramatic color look. This effect reduces peripheral brightness to give th e impression of a toy camera.
- 79 - Recording This effect blurs the overall image t o produce a s oft feel. This effect transforms pin-points of light into a star effect. This effect l eaves one selected color to emphasize impressiveness . [Sof t Focus] • Display of the recording scre en will be delayed more tha n usual and the screen will look as if frame s are dropping .
- 80 - Recording T ake the Outdoors Scene Expres sively Recording Mode: By setting the Recording Mode to [ ], [ ], [ ] or [ ] pictures can be taken more effectively matching the conditions such as spor ts, snow , beach & snorkeling. • T one of the col or of the image may ch ange when picture is taken with un matched usage .
- 81 - Recording This is optimal f or taking pictures underwat er and at the beac h. Depth meter will aut omatically operate. It can be a rough indica tion of how deep you have gone underwater . Y ou can use [Color Reproduction] (P1 15) in the [Rec] m enu and take pictures underwater without losing the red tinge.
- 82 - Recording ∫ About the white balance Y ou can adjust the hue to your pref erred setting using [WB Adjust.] (P101) . ∫ T o beautifully record the underwater red tinge (Underwater color reproduction) Subjects appear blue in pictures taken underwate r .
- 83 - Recording This is optimal f or taking pictures underwat e r deeper than 13 m (43 feet) by the use of the marine case (DMW-MCFT5: optional). Y ou can use [Color Reproduc tion] (P1 15) in the [Rec ] menu and take pictures underwater without losing the red tinge.
- 84 - Recording T aking panorama pictures (Panorama Shot Mo de) Recording Mode: Pictures are recorded continuously while moving the camera horizontally or vertically , and are combined to m ake a single panorama p icture. 1 Press [MO DE]. 2 Press 3 / 4 / 2 / 1 to selec t [Panorama Shot], and then press [MENU/SET].
- 85 - Recording 7 Press th e shutter b utton fully an d record a picture while moving the camera in a small circle in the direction sele cted in Step 3 . 8 Press th e shutter b utton once ag ain to end the still picture recor ding. • Recording can also be ended b y keeping the camer a still while recording.
- 86 - Recording • The zoom posit ion is fixed to Wide. • [S tabilizer] is fixed to [OFF]. • The focus , white balance, and exposu re are f ixed at the optimum values fo r the first pictu re.
- 87 - Recording T aking pictures that match the sc ene being recorded (Scene Mode) Recording Mode: When you se lect a Scene Mod e to match t he subject and recording situation, the ca mera sets the optimal exposure and hue to obtain the desired picture.
- 88 - Recording When taking pictures of people outdoors during the day , this mode allows you to improve the appearance of the persons and mak e their skin tones look healthier . ∫ T echnique for Portrait Mode T o mak e this mode more effective: 1 Press and hold down the zoom button as far as possible to T ele.
- 89 - Recording This allows you to take pictures of a per s on and the background with near real-life brightness. ∫ T echnique for Night Portrait Mode • Use the flash. ( Y ou can set to [ ‹ ].) • Ask the subj ect not to move while ta k ing a pict ure.
- 90 - Recording Y ou can combine several pictures with different levels of exposure into a single picture with rich gradation. Y ou can minimize the loss of gradati ons in bright areas a nd dark areas w hen, for example, the contrast between the background and the s ubject is large.
- 91 - Recording This takes pictures of a baby with a healthy complexion. When you use the flash, the light from it is weaker than usual. It is possible to set di fferent birthdays and names for [Baby1] and [Baby2]. Y ou can select to have these appear at the time of playback, or have them stamped on the recorded image using [T ext S tamp] (P160) .
- 92 - Recording Select this when you want to t ak e pictures of a sunset view . This allows you to take vivid pictures of the red color of the sun. This mode minimizes the jitter of the subjects, and enables you to take pictures of these subjects in dimly lit rooms.
- 93 - Recording Pictures are recorded continuously while moving the camera horizontally , and two pictures selected automatically are combined to make a single 3D picture. T o view 3D pictures , a television that supp orts 3D is required. (This unit will play back in 2D) Refer to P217 for det a ils about the playback method.
