3. Pull out the SIM card holder, and insert the SIM card. Ensure that the gold-colou red contact area on the card is facing down and that the bevelled corner on the card is facing the b evelled corner on the ho lder. Push the SIM card holder back in. 4.
Insert the memory card A memory card may be alread y inserted in the devic e. If not, do the following: 1. Remove the back cover of the device. 2. Insert a compatible memory card in the slot. Ensure that the contact area on the card is facing down and towards the slot.
Switch the device on and off To switch on the device: 1. Press and hold the power key. 2. If the device asks for a PIN code or lock code, enter it, and select OK . The preset lock code is 12345 . If you forget the code and your device is locked, your device will require service and additi onal cha rges may ap ply.

Nokia Switch Transfer content You can use the Switch applicat ion to copy content such as phone numbers, addresses, calendar items, and images from your previous Nokia device to your device. The type of cont ent that can be tr ansferred depends on the model of the device from which you want to transfer content.

Your device Welcome When you switch on your de vice for the f irst time, the Welcome application is displayed. To access the Welcome ap plicatio n later, select Menu > Applications > Welcome . Select from the following: ● Settings wizard — Configure various settings of your device.
To move an item, select Options > Edit content , select the desired item, and drag and drop it to a new location. Remove an item from the home screen Select Opti ons > Edit content and the item to be removed. Select Options > Remove and Done .
By addi ng the Share online w idget to your ho me screen, you can quickly ac cess your fa vourite Share online feed. 1. In the home screen, select Options > Edit content > Option s > Add content > Share online . 2. Select the feed you want to add.
A packet data connectio n is active in a pa rt of the network that su pports EG PRS (network service). indicates that the connection is on hold and that a connection is avai lable. The icons indicate that EGPRS is available in the network, but your device is not necessarily using an EGPRS co nn ection to transfer da ta.
To enter accented lette rs, for example á, press the sym key and then th e A key repeat edly until á is displayed. To change the writing language, press and the sym key. Search About Search Select Me nu > Applications > Search . Search enables you to us e various internet-based search services to find, fo r example, we bsites, and images.
Volume and loudspeaker control Warning: Listen to music at a moderate level. Continuous exposure to hi gh volume may damage your hearing. Do not hold the device n ear your ear when the loudspeaker is in u se, because the volume may be extremel y loud.
Fast downloading High-speed downlink packet access (HSDPA, also called 3.5G, indicated by ) is a network service in UMTS networks and provides high-speed data downloads.
Make calls Proximity sensor Your device has a proxim ity sensor. To prevent accidental selections, t he touch screen is disabled automatically during calls when you place the device next to your ear. Do not cover the p roximity sensor, for example, with pr otective film or tape.
To switch between th e active and the held call, select . Tip: When you have only on e active voice call, to put the call on hold, press the call key. To activate the call, press th e call key aga in. To send DTMF tone strings (for example, a password), select Options > Send DTMF .
Make a conference call Your device supports conference calls between a maximum of six participan ts, including yourself. 1. Make a call to the first part icipant. 2. To make a call to another participant, select Options > New call . The first call is pu t on hold.
4. To end the active call, p ress the end key . 5. To end both calls, select Options > End all calls . Voice dialling Your device automatically cre ates a voice tag for the contacts. To listen to the synthesised voice tag, select a contact and Option s > Voice tag details .

Video sharing Use video sharing (network se rvice) to send live video or a video clip from your mobile device to another compatible mobile device during a voice call.
5. Enter the SIP address in th e format username@domainname (you can use an IP address instead of a domain name). If you do not know the SIP address for the contact, you can use the phone number of th e recipient, including the country code, to share video (if supported by the ne twork service provider).

Contacts (phonebook) To open Contacts, select Menu > Co ntacts . You can save and update contact information , such as phone numbers, home addresse s, or e-mail addresses of your contacts. You can add a personal ringing tone or a thumbnail image to a co nt act.
1. In the contacts list, se lect a cont act. 2. Select Options > Default s . 3. Select a default to which yo u want to add a number or an address, and select Assign . 4. Select a number or an address you want to set as a default. 5. To exit the Def aults view and save the changes, tap outside the view.
T o d e f i n e a c a l l t e x t f o r a c o ntact, select the contact and Options > Add call alert text . Tap the t ext field to enter the call text, and select . To add an image for a contact saved in the device memory, select the cont act, Options > Add image , and an image from Photos.
When fixed dialling is acti vated, calls may be possible to the official emergency number programmed into your device . You need your PIN 2 code to activat e and dea ctivate fixed dialling or edit your fixed dialling contacts. Contact your service provid er for your PIN2 code.
Messaging Messaging main view Select Me nu > Messagin g (network service). To create a new message, select New message . Tip: To avoid rewriting messages that you send often, use texts in the T emplates folder in My folders. You can also create and save your own templates.

Multimedia mes sages Important: E xercise caution when opening messages. Messages may contain malicious software or otherwise be harmful to your device or PC. You may receive a notification that a multimedia message is waiting in the mult imedia me ssage cen tre.
When you open the mailbox, t he device asks if you want to connect to the m ailbox. To connect to your mailbo x and retrieve new e-mail headers or messages, select Yes . When you view messages online, you are con tinuously connected to a remote mailbox using a data connection.

Some or all message centre s or access points may be preset for your device by your service provider, and you may not be able to change, create, edit, or remove them. Text message settings Select Menu > Messaging and Options > Setti ngs > Text message .
● Allow anonymous msgs. — Select whether you want to reject messages from an anonymous sender. ● Receive adverts — Select whet her you want to receive multimedia message advertisements. ● Receive reports — Select wh ether you want the status of the sent message to be shown in t he log (network service).
● Security — Select the security option used to secure the connection t o the remote m ailbox. ● Port — Define a po rt for the connect ion. ● APOP secure login (for POP3 only) — Use with the POP3 protocol to encry pt the sending of passwords to the remote e-mail se rver while connec ting to the mailbox.
● Retrieval amount — Define how many new e-mail messages are retrieved to the mailbox. ● IMAP4 folder path (for IMAP4 only) — Define the folder path for folders to be subscribed. ● Folder subs cription s (for IMAP4 only) — Subsc ribe to other folders in the r emote mailbox, and retrieve content from those folders.
Select from the following: ● Save sent messages — Select whether you want to save copies of the text, multim edia, or e-mail messages that you send to the Sent folde r. ● Number of saved msgs. — Define how many sent messages are saved to the sent folder at a time.
Connectivity Your device offers several op tions to connect to the internet or to another co mpatible device or PC. Data connections and access points Your device supports packet dat a connections (network service), such as GPRS in the GSM network.
A roaming agreement is an agreement between two or more service providers to enab le the users of on e service provider to use the servic es of other service providers. ● Operator selection — Select Automatic to set the device to search for and se lect one of the available networks, or Manual to manua lly selec t the network from a list.
A WLAN connection is establ ished when you create a data connection usin g a WLAN internet ac cess point. The active WLAN conn ection ends when you end the data connection.
In the ad ho c operating mo de, device s can send and receive data directly wit h each other. Wireless LAN settings Select Menu > Settings and Connectivity > Wireless LAN > Options > Settings . Select from the following: ● Show WLAN availability — Select whether is displayed when a wireless LAN (WLAN) is ava ilable.
● Connection name — Enter a name for the connection. ● Data beare r — Select the data connec tion type. Depending on the data connection you select, only certain setting fields are avail able. Fill in all fields marked with Must be defin ed or with a red *.
● Prompt password — If you must enter the password every time you log in to a server, or if you do not want to save your password in the device, select Yes . ● Password — A password may be needed to make a data connection an d is usually provided by your service provider.
● WLAN security mode — Select the en cryption used: WEP , 802.1x (not for ad hoc networks), or WPA/WPA2 . If you select Open network , no encryption is us ed. The WEP, 802.1x, and WP A functions can be used only if the network supp orts them. ● Homepage — Enter the web addre ss of the starting page.
Active data connections Select Menu > Settings and Connectivity > Connection mgr. . In the active dat a connecti ons view, yo u can see the open data connections: data calls packet data connecti.
Since devic es with Blue tooth wireless tec hnology communicate using radio waves, they do not need to be in direct line-of-sight. H o w e v e r , t h e y m u s t b e w i t h i n 10 metres (33 feet) of each other, although t he connection may be subject to interference from obstructions such as walls or from other electronic devices.
D o n o t p a i r w i t h o r a c c e p t c o n n e c t i o n r e q u e s t s f r o m a n unknown device. Thi s helps to protect you r device from harmful content. Send data using Bluetooth connectivi ty Several Bluetooth connections can be acti ve at a time.

Internet With the Web browser, you can view hypert ext markup language (HTML) web pages on the inte rnet as originally designed. You ca n also browse web pages that are designed specifica lly for mobile devices, and use extensible hypertext markup lan guage (XHTML), or the wireless markup language (WM L).

To update a web feed, in th e Web feeds view, se lect a feed and Options > We b feed option s > Refresh . To define whether the web feeds are updat ed automatically, in the Web feeds view, selec t Options > Edit > Edit . This option is not avail able if one or more feeds are marked.
To delete th e information the network server co llects about your visits to various web pages, select Options > Clear p rivacy data > Cookies . Connection security If the security indicator ( ) is displayed during a connection, the data transmission bet ween the device and the internet gateway or server is encrypt ed.
● Java/ECMA script — Enable or disable the use of scripts. ● Java/ECMA script errors — Sel ect whether you want to receive sc ript notifications. ● Open while downloading — Select whether you want to be able to open a file while it is bei ng downloaded.
Positioning (GPS) You can use applications such as GPS da ta to find out your location, or measure distances and coordinates. These applications requ ire a GPS connection. About GPS The coordinate s in the GPS are exp ressed in the degrees and decimal degrees format using the international WGS-84 coordinate system.
Positioning settings > Positioning meth ods > Assisted G PS > Disable . You must have an internet access poi nt defined in the device to retrieve assistance data from the Nokia A-GPS service over a pac ket data connec tion. The access poin t for A-GPS can be defined in positioning settings.
● If you are indoor s, go outdo ors to rece ive a bet ter signal. ● If you are outdoors, move to a more open space. ● Ensure that your hand doe s not cover the GPS antenna of your devi ce. ● If the weather conditions are bad, the signal strength may be affected.
GPS data GPS data is designed to provide route guidance information to a selected destination, position information about your curre nt location, and tr aveling information, such as the ap proximate distance to the destination and approximat e duration of travel.
Positioning settings Select Me nu > Applications > Location and Positionin g . Positioning methods Select from the following: ● Integrated GPS — Use the integrated GPS re ceiver of you r device. ● Assisted GPS — Use Assisted GPS (A-GPS) to receive assistance data from an assistance data server.
Nokia Maps Maps Select Menu > Maps . With Maps, you can see your current location on the map, browse maps for different cities and countries, search for addresses and diffe rent points of interest, plan routes from one location to another, and save locations and send them to compatibl e devices.
Compass Select Me nu > Maps . Your device has an internal compass. When the compass is enabled, the circle around the compass is green, and the map view rotates automatic ally according to the direc tion to which the top of the device is pointing. The compass is active by default.
To zoom in and out on the map, se lect + and - . Display indicators The GPS indica tor shows the availability of the satellite signals. One bar i s one satellite. When the device tries to find satellite signals, the bar is yellow. When the device rec eives enough data from the satellites for GPS to calculate your location, the bar turns green.
Example: To find restaurants cl ose to your location, select Option s > Search > Places > Eat & Drink > Restaurants . Example: To find a specific hotel, select Options > Search > Places > Accommoda tion . Enter the name of the hotel in the search field, and select Search all .
To view the sele cted location on t he map, select Sho w on map . To add the location to a rou te, tap the location, and select Add > Add to route . History To check which locat ions you hav e searched fo r on the map, select History . To view the sele cted location on t he map, select Sho w on map .
Walk to your destination The walking route ignores any possibl e limitations to car navigation, such as one-way streets and turn restrictions, and includes areas such as pedestrian zones and parks. It also prioritises walkways and smaller roads, and omits highways and motorways.
To stop navigating, select Stop navi gation . Traffic information Select Menu > Maps . The real-time traffic info rmation service provides information about traffic events that may affect your travel.
To select whether to allow Maps to open an in ternet connection when you start the application, sel ect Go online at start-up . To select the access point to be used when connecting to the inte rnet, select Def ault access point .
memory use . When the memory li mit is reached, the oldest data is removed. To select whether to use the metric or impe rial system, select System of m easuremen t . Update maps To update the maps on your device, select Option s > Tools > Settings > Map > Options > Check for map updates , or use Nokia Map Loader.
Camera Your device supports an image captur e resolution of 2592x1944 pixel s (5 me gapixels). The image resolution in this guide may appear different. To ensure good quality photos, wipe the c amera lens carefully with a clea ning cloth. Activate the camera To activate the camera, op en the lens cov er.

To make your own scen e suitable for a certain environment, scroll to User defined , and select Edit . In the user defined scene y ou can adjust different lighting and colour settings. To cop y the settings of another scene, select Based on scene mod e and the desired scene.
Video recording o n-screen controls and indicators The video viewfinder di splays the following: 1 — Capture mode indicator 2 — Audio mute on indicator 3 — Capture icon. Select to record video clips. 4 — Video light indicator 5 — Recording settings.
● Memory in use — Select where to stor e your images. ● Show GPS info — To add GPS location coordinates to each image file, select On . Receiving a GPS signal may take time, or the signal may not be a vailable.
Photos About Photos Select Menu > Phot os and from the following: ● Captured — View all the images and video c lips you have captured . ● Months — View images and video c lips categorised by the month they were capture d. Applicable only for content capt ured or re corded with your devi ce.
View and edit file details Select Me nu > Photos . To view and edit the properties of an image or a video clip, select the file, Op tions > Details , and from th e following: ● Title — View th e thumbnail image of the file and the current file name.
Create a new album. Albums Select Menu > Phot os and Albums . With albums, you can co nvenient ly manage your images and video clips. To create a new album, select . To add an image or a video clip to an album, select the item and Optio ns > Add to al bum .
● Image order — D i s p l a y i m a g e s f r o m o l d e r t o n e w e r or vice versa. ● Song — Select a music file from the list. ● Transition speed — Adjust the tempo of th e slide show. To adjust the volume duri ng the slide show, use the volume keys.
Edit images Image editor To edit an image, in Phot os, scroll to the image, and select Options > Edit . To add effects to your images, select Options > Add effect . You can crop and rotate the image; adjust the brightness, colour, contrast , and resolution; and add effects, text, clip art, or a frame to the image.
Image print You can print images from your device u sing a printer compatible with PictBridge . You can only print image s that are in the JPEG file format. To print images in Photos, c amera, or image viewer, mark the images, and select Options > Print .
Music Warning: Listen to music at a moderate level. Continuous exposure to hi gh volume may damage your hearing. Play a song or a podcast Select Menu > Music > Mus ic library . To play a song or a podcast: 1. Select categories to navigate to the song or podcasts you want to hear.
To return to the home sc reen and leave th e player playing in the background, press the en d key. To close the player, sele ct Options > Exit . Playlists Select Me nu > Music > Mu sic library and Playlists . To view details of the playlist, select Option s > Playlist detail s .
Transfer music from a computer You can use the follow ing methods to tran sfer music: ● To view your device on a computer as a mass memory device where you can transfer any data files, make the connec tion with a compatible USB data cable or Bluetooth conne ctivity.
The operatin g distance of the FM transm itter is up to a maximum of 2 metres (6.5 fe et). The transmission may be subject to interference due to obstructions, such as walls, other electronic devices, or from public radio stations. The FM transmitte r may cause interference to nearby FM rec eivers operat ing on the same frequency.
download podcasts over the air, and play, manage, and share audio and video podc asts with y our device. Podcasting settin gs To open Nokia Podcasting, select Men u > Application s > Podcasting . Before using Nokia Podcasti ng, define your connection and download settings.
To search for podcasts, select Menu > Appl ications > Podcasting and Search , and enter the desired keywords. Tip: The search service looks for podcast titles and keywords in descriptions, not specific episodes. General topics, such as football or hip- hop, usually give better results than a specific team or artist.
Downloads After you have subscribed t o a podcast, f rom directories, search, or by entering a web address, you can manage, download, and play episodes in Podcasts.
Some podcasts provid e the opportu nity to interact with the cre ators by commenting and votin g. To connect to the intern et to do this, select Op tions > View comments . FM radio Listen to the radio Select Me nu > Music > Rad io . The FM radio depends on an antenna other than the wireless device antenna.
Videos You can download and stream video clips over the air from compatible internet video services (network service) using a packet data or WLAN connection.

Transfer videos from your PC Transfer your own video clips from compat ible devices using a compatible USB data cable. Only video clips which are in a format supported by your device are shown. 1. To view your device on a PC as a mass memory device where you c an transfer any data files, connect using a USB data cable.
Personalise your device You can personalise your devi ce by changing the standby mode, main menu, tone s, themes, or font size. Most of the personalisation options, such as changing the font size, can be accessed throu gh the device settings. C h a n g e t h e l o o k o f y o u r d e v i c e Select Me nu > Settings and Persona l > Themes .
3-D tones Select Menu > Settings and Personal > Profiles . Go to a profile, and select Options > Personalise . With 3-D tones, you can enabl e three-dimensional sound effects for ringing tones.
Applications Calendar To open the calendar, se lect Menu > Calendar . Calendar views To switch between month, week, day, and to-do note view, select Options > Change view > Month view , Week , Day or To-do .
