[ 1 ] For your safety 1. For your safety This section provides various safety guidelines. Read th is information before using your mobile phone (hereafter referred to as “phone”). Failure to comply with these guidelines co uld prove to be dan gerous or illegal.

[ 3 ] Welcome to Nokia 2. W elcome to Nokia Y our new Nokia 7 190 is more than a n exceptional mobile phone. Some people call the 7 190 a breakthrough in wireless technology . W e call it Command@Ha nd . Managing pe rsonal infor mation is easy wi th the built -in phone book, calendar , and to-do list.

[ 6 ] • C ontacting your service provider* Y ou may be able to contact your service provider by pressing and holding 1 . This is he lpful if you’re having trouble, such as when traveling outside your home area. If you have a p roblem that your service provider considers to be Nokia related, the service provider will let you know .
[ 7 ] Before you begin 3. Before you begin • Install the SIM card The slot for the SIM card is located on back of your phone, ben eath the battery . To install the SIM card, be sure that the phone is turned off , and perform the following steps: • If the battery is already attached, see “Remove the battery” on page 9.
[ 8 ] Install the battery 1 Align the battery with the s lots on back of the phone. 2 Gently slide the battery towar d the ante nna unti l you hear a click . Charge the b attery 1 Plug the lead from the charger into the circular jack on the end of your phone.
[ 9 ] Before you begin Remove the battery Note: Switch the phone off before removing the battery . 1 Press the release button on back of the battery . 2 Push the bat tery toward the bottom of the phone until it stops.
[ 1 0 ] Tip: A press of the roller at the Start screen displays the Names List from the Phone book. You can change this function so that a roller press displays other features.

[ 13 ] About your phone • Y our phone’s display Start screen The Start screen refers to the phone ’s initial display , no menus or s ubmenus are shown. Return to the Start screen from anywh ere by pressing . HOME Y our service provider’s name often appears here.

[ 15 ] About your phone Selection keys Two selection keys are located below the display screen. In this guide, each selection key is referre d to by the text above it, inside the screen (such as Menu or Names ). For example, pres sing Menu displays the first of many menus.
[ 16 ] 5. Make and answer calls Besides using your keypad, you can also make calls using your phone book, voice dial, or 1-touch dialing, once you’ve programmed these features. Tip: Use the index in back of this guide to locate these features quickly .

[ 18 ] • Earpiece vol ume While in a call, roll the roller . A bar graph appears on scr een. Roll the roller again to adjust the volume. The larger bars indicate higher earpiece volume .
[ 19 ] Menu navigation 6. Menu navigation Y o ur phone has 12 main men us. Ea ch main menu conta ins a numb er of submenus and lists. Yo u can navigate the men us using the roller and selection keys, or you can use a shortcut. • Important info about shortcuts Shortcuts are a quick and easy way to access features.

[ 29 ] Y our ph one’s keypad 7. Y our phone’s keypad • Enter characters and numbers Y ou can enter any combination of numbers and letters into text messages, phone book entries, or web addresses using the and modes. The phone’s current mode is indicated in the upper left corner of the screen.
[ 30 ] Switch between uppercase and lowercase Press to switch to and from u ppercase to lowercase characters while in mode or while entering special char acters. • Enter s pecial characters While in mode, press to display a list of special characters on the right of your screen.
[ 3 1 ] Phone book 8. Phone book Y ou can store up to 1 000 names, numbers, address es, and e- mail addresses in your Phone book. Numbers can be (up to) 32 digits long, while names can be u p to 50 characters long. • Open the Phone book 1 At the Start screen, press Names .
[ 32 ] 4 Enter the text with the keypad and press OK . 5 Press to return to the Start screen. Save a nu mber q uic kly 1 At the Start s creen, enter a number to save. 2 Press and hold Options . Saved to phone appears on screen. • Phone book options 1 At the Start screen, press Names .
[ 33 ] Phone book Specify a primary number If any names in your Phone book have multiple numbers, it’s a good idea to specify the number that you dial most often (for that name) as the primary number .
[ 34 ] 4 Press OK to accept your changes. The numb er edit screen appears. • Scroll with the roller to move the cu rsor betwe en numbers . •P r e s s Cle ar to backspace and delete. • Ente r number s using t he keypa d. • Press repeatedly to cycle through dialing codes.
[ 35 ] Phone book Erase all names and num bers 1 At the Start screen, press Names . 2 Scroll to Era se and press the roller . 3 Scroll to Era se all and press the roller . Y ou’re given the option to e rase all numbers from t he Phon e or the SIM card .
[ 36 ] • Y our phone’s memory Y our phone ha s two types of memory - Phone memory and SIM memory . Y ou can save names and numbers to either of these memory types, but there are advantag es specific to each type. Phone m emory is the default, but you can switch between SIM and Phone memory any time you like.
[ 37 ] Phone book Tip: If y ou want to save more than one number with a name or if you want to use Voice dialing, choose Phone memory . 5 Press to return to the Start screen. Copy (or move) nu mbers from the SIM card to the phone or vice versa Copy numb ers one by one 1 At the Start screen, press Names .
[ 38 ] If you are copying numbers from the phone to the SIM card, there is an additional option (Primary numbers ) which will copy on ly the primary numbers of the entries in your phone book to the SIM card. To learn more about primary n umbers, see “Specify a primary n umber” on page 33 of your User Guide.
[ 39 ] Call log* 9. Call log* Call log stores information about missed, dialed, or received calls. In order for Call log to work, all of the f ollowing must exist: • Y our clock must be set (see page 1 1). • Y our service provider must support caller ID, and it must be enabled.

Displays the da te and time of th e missed call. • Edit number . . . . . . . Allows you to edit the number and associate a name with the number when savin g to your phone book.

[ 43 ] Call log* • Clea r digital call timers . . . . . . . . . Clear s all the timers fr om memory . Note: Clear di gital c all t imers clears all timers for your phone and can’t be undone. If you use call timers to track the time you spend on your phone, do n ot use this fea ture.
[ 44 ] 1 0. V oice mail* V oice mail allows calle rs to leave a voice message, which can be retrieved at any time. However , voice mail is indepen dent of your phone’s software. T o use voice mail, your service provider mus t furnish a voice mail subscription and a voice mailbox number .
[ 45 ] V oice mail* • Call and setup your voice mailbox* Now that you’ve saved your voice mailbox n umber , you can call the number and customize your m ailbox. 1 Press and hold . 2 Once the pre-recorded greeting begins, press and follow the voice instructions.
[ 46 ] 1 1. Profiles With Pr ofiles you can pre-select how your phone behaves in dif ferent environmen ts. Normal is the default setting, but you can select an d customize each profile to suit your needs. • Select a profile 1 At the Start screen, press Menu .

[ 48 ] 12. Advanced features • Advanced dialing Some numbers (such as voice mail) require a pause or require a code at some point during the dialing process. You can save any number along with its s pecific pause or code for easy dialing in the future.
[ 49 ] Advanced features • In- call opti ons* Y ou have several options while in a call. However , many of these options are dependent upon your service provider . To arrive at any of the in-call op tions outlined in the followi ng paragraphs , press Optio ns and sc roll to any item u sing the roller .
[ 50 ] With on e call on hold w hile another is active Press Opti ons to display the following: • End act ive c all . . . . . Ends the active call on ly . • Conference call . . . . . Allows up to 6 people to take part in a call. • Tr a ns f e r c a ll s .
[ 5 1 ] Advanced features 2 Scroll to Hold and press the roller . On hold: Call 1 appears on screen . Return to a held call •P r e s s Unhold to return to the call. Call waiting* This service allows you to answer an incoming call even if you’re curr ently in a call ( if Call waiti ng has been activated).
[ 52 ] 3 After the second party answers, switch between the two calls by pressing Swap or . 4 To end the active call only , press . 5 To end both calls at the same time, press Options , scroll to En d all calls , and press OK . Conference a call* If supported by your service pr ovider , up to 6 people can take part in a call.
[ 53 ] Advanced features T ransfer a call* If you have one active call and another on hold, you can connect the two and at the same tim e remove yourself from the conve rsation. For quest ions about the availabi lity and cost of th is feature, c ontact your servi ce provider .
[ 54 ] 4 Press the roller to select you r choice. Acti vate is highlighted. 5 Press the roller , highlight To voice mailbox or To other number and press the roller again. 6 Enter the number to which your calls, data, or other information will be forwarded and press the roller .
[ 55 ] Advanced features • Calling cards Calling cards are useful if you’d like to use your phone for more than o ne account. For exam ple, if your phone’s for personal u se, but your employer would also like you to use your phone for business calls, you can charge all of your business calls to a calling card.
[ 56 ] Call using a calling card 1 At the Start scr een, enter the phone number you wish to call. 2 Press and hold until Card call appears. The number is dialed u sing the selected card. • V oice dialing Any 1 0 numbers in your phone book can be setup for voice dialing.
[ 57 ] Advanced features Notes about voice tags • V oice tags can be no lon ger than 2 seconds . • V oi ce tags replay immediately after th ey’re recorded. • Recording stops automatically . Pressing Stop aborts the recording. • For best results, choose a quiet location wh en creating a voice tag (avoid areas with background noise).
[ 58 ] 2 Pronounce the voice tag clearly into the microphone from a distance of 6-12 in ches. Note: If the voice tag is not a ccepted, or if you fail to pronounce the tag within 3 seconds, th e message No match found app ears and the display returns to the Start screen.
[ 59 ] Advanced features • 1-touch dialing After you’ve added a name to your Phone book, you can assign the name to any key from 2 through 9. Once you’ve done th is, and activated 1-touch dialing, the associated number is dialed when you press that key .
[ 60 ] Make a call using 1- touch dialin g Before you make a call u sing 1-touch dialing, make sure you’ve assigned a key to 1-touch dialing and that it is activated (see “Ass ign a key to 1- tou ch d ia lin g” earlier in this section). • Press and hold the key that you previously assigned to the phone number .

Customize your phone • Customize the roller Normally , when you’re at th e Start screen and you press the roller , you’re presented with a list of names and numbers saved to your phone book. Y ou can change this so that pressing the roller takes you to another feature.
[ 62 ] • Display cell inform ation In some networks, locali zed information such as weather alerts or event welcome messages are broadcast to th e public. Y ou can set your phone to display this information whenever it’s available. 1 At the Start screen, press Menu .
[ 63 ] Customize your phone •S I M s e r v i c e s If you have this feature e nabled, you can set the phone to display any confirmation messages within a SIM services session that are sen t between your phone and the service provider . Note: Y ou must direct any questions about this feature to the company that provided your SIM card.

Security Y ou can use keypad lock, restr ict incoming and outgoing calls, use s ecurity codes, and other methods to secure your phone against unauthorized u se. • Lock the keypad Y ou can lock your phone’s keypad to pr event accidental calls while carrying the phone in your pocket or purse.
[ 65 ] Security Answer a call wh ile Slide setting is on • Open the slide wh en you receive a call. End a call wh ile Slide sett ing is on • Close the slide when you want to end the call. Exit any menu and re turn to the Start scree n • Close the slide to return to th e Start screen.

[ 69 ] Security 7 Enter the number you wish to add to fixed dialing and pr ess OK . 8 Enter the name you wish to assign to the number and press OK . Saved to SI M card or S aved t o Phone appears on screen, depending on which memory you are u sing. 9 Press to return to the Start screen.
[ 7 0 ] PIN2 code The PIN2 code is required for some features that are supported by your SIM card. The PIN2 code is supplied with your SI M card if: • Y our serv ice provider supports these features.
[ 7 1 ] Security 5 Scroll until Change rest riction passw ord appears and press the roller . 6 Enter the cu rrent restriction password an d press OK . 7 Enter the new restriction password and press OK . 8 Re-enter the new r estriction password for verification and press OK .

[ 73 ] T ext messages* 15. T ext messages* Y our ph one can send and receive text messag es up to 160 chara cters in length . These messages, als o known as SMS (Sh ort Mes sage Serv ice) , are simi lar to e-mail becau se you can rea d, write, sen d, and store them in folders.

[ 78 ] • Special sending options Send multipl e copies Y ou can sen d the same message to multiple recipients using the multiple copies feature. Th is saves the time of having to rewrite the message for each recipient. 1 At the Start screen, press Menu .
[ 79 ] T ext messages* A list of messages appears on screen. 3 Scroll to the message you wish to read and press the roller . Tip: If y ou pres s Options w hile viewing the message, you can Reply , Forw ard , Move , Edit , Rename , Copy to calendar , and more.
[ 80 ] Archive folder and user-created folders To make sure that cert ain messa ges wo n’t be overwritten when memory becomes full, move some of your messages t o the Archiv e fol der . Y ou can also create new folders of your own an d save messages there.
[ 8 1 ] T ext messages* • Messa ge settings Y ou can control the format, method of de livery , and other properties of your messages with Messa ge settings . 1 At the Start screen, press Menu, and then press the roller . Te xt me s s a ge s app ears o n sc reen.
[ 82 ] Y ou can send a text message to a fax or to an e-mail address (if supported by your service provider) if you’ve defined a set with parame ters for fax or e-mail transmissions. This option is under Messages se nt as... • Predictive text input Predictive text input is an easier , faster way to write messages than the traditional method.
[ 83 ] T ext messages* If a question mark appears after the word, the word you intended to write is not in the dictionary . Y ou need to add the w ord to the dictionary (see next page).
[ 84 ] Tip: Press to switch between uppercase and lowercase characters, when they’re availa ble. Insert a name or n umber in to a me ssage To insert a stored name or number in to your message: 1 While writing a message, press Options . 2 Scroll to Insert num ber or I nsert name , and then press the roller .
[ 85 ] T ext messages* Clear the screen To clear any text or n umbers on sc reen, press and hold Clea r . Delete Information • To delete a character to the left of the cu rsor , press Cl ear . • To delete a highlighted word, press , and then press Clear .
[ 86 ] 16. Y o ur P ersonal Digital Assistant • Calendar The ca lendar ( Menu 8 ) keeps track of notes, calls, meetings, and birthdays. It can e ven sound an alarm when it’s time for you to make a call or go to a meeting. Y our phone must be switched on to use this function.

[ 88 ] Option 2: Vi ew by weeks Allows you to view the calendar in mo nthly increments with one week highlighted at a time. Option 3: Go to date Ta kes you directly to the specified date instead of scrolling. Enter a date in mm/dd/yyyy for mat, and then press OK .
[ 89 ] Y our P ersonal Digital Assistant • Alarm clock The alarm clock is based on your phone’s internal clock. It sounds an alert a ny time you specify and works even when the ph one is off. Set an alarm 1 At the Start screen, press Menu . 2 Scroll until Se tting s appears on screen and press the roller .
[ 90 ] With the ph one off The phone switches itself on and the alarm sounds. If you press Stop , the phone displays Swit ch the ph one on? . •P r e s s Ye s to keep the phone powere d on or press No to switch it off.
