1 1. Safety At A Glance Read these simple guidelines before using your phone. Failure to comply with these guidelines may be dangerous or illegal. Note: For more detailed safety information, “Important Safety Information” on page 1 04. Road Sa fety C omes Fir st Don’t use a hand-held phone while driving; park the vehicle fir st.
2 FCC/Indust ry Canada Noti ce Y our phone may cause TV or radio interference (for example, when using a telephone in close proximity to receiving equipment). The FCC/Industry Canada can require you to stop using your telephone if such interference cannot be eliminated.
3 2. Getting Connected This section will he lp you und erstand the in s and outs of charging and using y our battery. Attaching yo ur battery Simply pla ce the ba tter y in the grooves on t he back of your phone. Then slide t he batter y upwa rd until it click s.
4 If your phone displays Not charg ing , charging is suspended. Check that the battery is connecte d only to an approved charging device. If the battery is very hot or cold, wait for a while; ch arging will a utomatic ally resume after the battery is re stored to its n ormal opera ting tem perature.
5 Charging times depend o n the type of batte ry and charger u sed. For approximate c harging and operatin g times, see “Batteries” on page 97. Can you make calls while charging? Y e s, you can. But your ba ttery may not cha rge while a call is in progress (depending o n which ch arger you are using).
6 Important Batte ry Informatio n • The battery can be c harged and discharged hundre ds of times bu t it will eventually wear out. W hen th e operating time (talk tim e and standby time ) is noticeably s horter than norm al, it is time to buy a new battery.
7 • Leaving the battery in hot or co ld places, such a s in a clos ed car in summer or winter condi tions, will red uce the capacity and lifetime of the batte ry. Always try to keep th e bat tery betwe en 59º F and 77º F (15º C and 25º C). A phone wit h a hot or cold battery may temporarily not work, eve n when the battery is fully charged.
8 3. Using Y our Phone The first few days you have your phone , play with it to learn how th e men u an d su bme nu syst em work s. Th e more y ou le arn how t o access these menus and submenus, the more fu n you’ ll have with your phon e. This section describes the different meth ods of using your phone menus and submen us.
9 Scroll k ey Use the s croll key to navigate th rough your phone’s menus and submenus . Y ou can also use it to scro ll through names and numbers in your phon e book. Also, when editing names and numbers (for example, numbers in your phon e book), you ma y notice a cursor flashing with in the na me or numbe r .
10 Menu and submen u numbering When you scr o ll to a menu o r submenu, th e menu number and/or submenu numbe r appears on the display above the scroll bar . If you become fa miliar with the se numbers, you can us e them as shortcu ts for access ing different menus.

14 4. The Basics Y ou have purchased a powerful phone, with lots of features. Read thi s sect ion for s ome very basic informat ion on h ow to use your phon e. A more comprehe nsive description of you r phone is covered in “Your Phone A to Z” starting on page 18.

18 5. Y our Phone A to Z ABC/abc mode This allows you to ente r upper and lower case alphanume ric characters into y our phone. This is necessary for e ntering names and numbers into your phone book, as well as editing any exi sting alphanumeric charact ers.
19 2. Enter time you wish to set alarm (for example, ent er 0 7:00 to set th e alarm to 7:00; rememb er if you r clock is 24- hour or a m/pm). Exis ting digits w ill be replaced with the n ew alarm time. 3. Press OK . Note: Step 4 appears on ly if you have selected am /pm format.
20 All calls timer This feature keeps t rack of the approximate time you have spen t on all calls with your phon e. Note: See “Call timers” on page 26 . Anykey answer This feature a llows you to answer an incoming call by pressing any key except or .
21 Y ou r phone will redial the numbe r you’re trying to c all up to 3 times after y ou hear a quick, busy signal. Press Quit or to stop t he call attempts. Activati ng auto matic red ial Press Menu 4-1-2 ( Setting s - Call se ttings - Auto mati c redial ), the n scr ol l to On and press OK .
22 Calendar The calenda r helps y ou keep tra ck of appointments, birthdays or meeti ngs. I t can even sound an alarm when it’s time for you to make a ca ll or go to a m eeting.
23 Option 1: V iew day notes With this option, you c an view the notes of the da y currently on display . ( If there ar e no note s associate d with th e day, N o note s for se lect ed day appears.) Scroll throug h the no tes. Each note allows you to choose the followin g Options : Eras e cle ars the note from your ca lendar.
24 Option 5: Go to date Enter the date you wis h to go to. Opti on 6: Set the da te Enter the day and month (using two-digit fields) and year (using a four- digit field), then press OK . Note: This option is ne cessary only if n etwork date and time is not available.
25 Call forw ardin g optio ns Forwar d all calls forwards all inc oming calls . Forward if busy forwards calls only when you’re on the phone. Forward if not answered forwards calls if you do n’t answer . Forward if out of reach forwards calls if you are out of the ser ving wirele ss network.
26 Use number al lows you to view t he num ber stored i n the call log, save it in your phone book, or dial t he number by pressing . Save allows you t o save the number into your phone book.

29 Callin g card If you wish to use a callin g card for long distance calls, you must first store your calling card inform ation into your phone . Y our phone c an store up to four c alling cards. Storing a c alling card 1. Press Menu 4-1-3 ( Settings - Call settings - Calling card ).
30 6. Enter acce ss number w hen prompte d for the ca lling card’s acc ess nu mber (usual ly the 1-800 n umber listed on the back of t he calling card), p ress OK . Note: Y ou can also retrieve the acces s number from your phone book if it has already been s tored.
31 Change lock code This feature allows you to ch ange yo ur lock code. See “Changing your lock code” on page 46 . Change security code This feature allows you to ch ange your se curity code.
32 Clock Your phone c ontains a re al-time clock that can be set two different ways : the cloc k can use th e time and date information provided by the wireles s system, or it can be set manually . The clock will displ ay the curre nt time a nd date on the start screen.
33 Allowin g the netwo rk to set the clock 1. Press Menu 4-2-1 ( Set ting s - Phone set tin gs - Cl ock ). 2. Scroll to Time setti ngs , pres s Sele ct . 3. Observe the t ext: Set by network , press Select again. If yo u cho ose Set by network , y our phone will display Time is se t .
34 2. Once the third party answers, press to connect all three parties. 3. Press again if you wish to disconnect the third party . Press to drop both parties. Recalling a number from the phone book during a conference ca l l 1. During the cal l, pres s O ptions .
35 Custom Tone This feature a llows you to assign a special rin ging tone to an entry in you r phone book. Wh en that person calls y ou, you’ll be able to quickly identify the person based on the special tone you he ar . • In order to use this fe ature, Caller I D must be available and active in your phone.
36 Y our phone can func tion as a fax/modem when connect ed to your PC or laptop computer via the optio nal data cable. Y ou must also have the appropriate fax or data software installed and conf igured to s end and receive data or faxes. (See "Dat a and Fax C a lls" on page 9 3 for mo re inform ation).
37 4. To exit em ergency call mod e, at the start scr een, press Exit . When the question Restore no rmal ser vice? appears, press OK . IMPORTA NT! This phone, like any c ellular phone, operates u sing radio signals, cellu lar and lan dline netw orks, as we ll as user- programmed functions w hich cannot gu arantee connect ion in all conditions.
38 Activating E mergency key 9 Press Menu 4- 1-1 ( Setti ngs - Call settings - Eme rgenc y key 9 ), sc roll to On to activate or Off to cancel, then press OK . Entering text and numbers Note: If you’re able to send m obile messages from your phone, you can u se the predicti ve text input m ethod to write the message.
39 While you’re editing a name, moves the curso r to the left, and moves it to th e right. T o clear th e character to the left of the curs or , press Clear . T o clear all characte rs, press and hold Clear . To enter a spac e, press . ABC/abc mode (Changing letter case) Press the # key to switch between upper and lower case letters.
40 Specia l Char acters (for storing and cal ling numbers) The following special characte rs are he lpful when y ou store numbers to your phone book ( see page 58 ). Simply press th e key on ce or repeate dly , and the follo wing characters can be stored within the number seque nce.
41 Games Y ou have four exciting games to choose from in your phone. Press Men u 6 to choose one of the following games: Note: REMEMBER! Y our phone must be switched on to use this function. D o not switch on the phone when wireless phone use is prohibited or when it may cause interference or danger .

43 Inbo x When you receive a mobile message, it’s stored in the Inbox. Y our phone will display Message recei ved , along with the mobile mes sage icon, and you w ill hear a t one (unles s you are in a call ). Press the Read softke y to rea d messages.

45 Life ti mer The life tim er displays the approximate total ti me of all calls dialed and received with your phone (in h ours and minutes only) . The life time r cannot be reset and is us ed in conjunctio n with your phone ’s warranty . Press Menu 2-5-3 ( Call log - Call t imers - Life timer ) to view your phone’s life timer .
46 Lock code Y ou’ll n eed t he lo ck co de to acti vate and d eac tivate Phon e Lock ( see page 62 ), or to ch ange you r l ock c ode . The defau lt loc k cod e is 123 4 (or the la st fo ur digits of you r ph one number, depending on you r service provide r).
47 Memory status This feature allows you to see how many free and in-use memory location s are in you r directory . Note: Also, see “Phone book” on page 5 8. Press Names , scr ol l to Opti ons and press Select . Then scroll to Mem or y statu s and press Select again.
48 Microphone You ca n mute and unm ute you r phon e’s mic roph one while a call is in progress. During a call, your phone’s softkeys change fr om Menu and Nam es to Option s and Mute . Muting and unmuting your phone You can mut e the phone ’s mi crop hone d uri ng a c all; si mply press Mute .
49 After a certain period of inactivity , the Minibrow ser disconnects from the ne twork. For this reason, you may find that yo u are billed for s everal ne twork conne ctions within a single session . This is normal and is designed to minimize you r bill.
50 Mini br ow se r men u While in the Minibrowser , press and release (power key) to display the Minibro wser menu: Help - Show a help page for t he current site (a ccessible from some pages). Home - Return to the Home page. Boo kma rk pa ge - Set a book mark for the current page .
51 Go to the Hom e Page • Press r epeatedl y to move ba ck th rough previously viewed pages until the H ome P age appears. • OR, press and release to display the Min ibrowser menu, scroll to Home , then p ress OK .
52 Bookmarks Y ou can set a bookmark for a web page so that you can quickly go to that page late r . (Y ou may also be able to set bookmark s via a person al account at your servic e provider's web s ite.) Set a bookma rk 1. Go to the page for which you wan t to set a bookmark.
53 • On exit - Before exiting the Minibrowser session, your phone prompts you to confirm you r choice. • Both - Y our phone prompts you to confirm your choice before conne cting to the w eb and before exiting the Minibrowser session. • Never - Y our phon e never prompts you to confirm your cho ice.
54 When the Forward if not answered option in the Call Forwarding feature ( see page 24 ) is selected, your phone will not treat the forwarded calls as missed calls.
55 NAM upda te The Number Assignm ent Module (NAM) in y our phone contains your assigned phone nu mber(s) and other system informat ion that your s ervice provider e ntered during acti vation. T he NAM update fe ature allow s you to easily activate or reactivate your phone without having to go to your service provi der .

58 Calling a number using one-touch dialing Press and hold the key (2 through 8) for about two seconds to ca l l th e numb er in the corr espondi ng on e-to uch di al location . Y ou can also press th e key an d then if you prefer . Y ou r phone recalls the phone number from the memory , displays it briefly , then dia ls it.
59 of a name and phone num ber . Y ou can also associate an email ad dress wi th an en try , for use when addres sing a mobile message . Adding a n ent ry to the phone book Tip: To quic kly cre ate an entr y , simpl y ente r a ph one num ber at the start screen, press Save , then go to step 3 .

71 Changing your security code 1. Press Menu 4-3-2-4 ( Set ting s - Securi ty se ttings - Acce ss codes - Change security code ). 2. Enter security code and pres s OK . 3. Enter new se curity code at Enter new se cur ity code : , pres s OK (must be five dig its).

73 System select ion About se lecting a sy stem The Sy stem menu ( Menu 5) allo ws yo u to cu stomize the way your phone choose s a system in whic h to operate while you are “roaming ” (using your ph one outside of your primary or “home” system).
74 System c hoice s Note: If you have more than one phone number (NAM), your ch oice a ffect s only the curren tly se lected NAM. See ‘NAM selection ’ on page 54. Note: System choices may differ according to se rvice provider . • Home only - Y our phone cannot roam.
75 Touch tones Y ou r phone can gene rate various sounds, called t ouch tones, when the keys are pr essed . These are also known as D TMF tones. Touch to nes can be used for many auto mate d, over- the- phone servic es such as chec king bank balances, air line arriv al and departure time s, and using vo ice mailbox opti ons.
76 When you dial this number , your phone first dials th e phon e number , then wai ts (becau se of the “w” ch aracte r) for you to press Send . Y our p hone then send s yo ur password. If you include a “p” ch aracter instead of a “w”, your phone pauses for 2 .
77 Vibrating alert This is one of the settings in your phone’s profi les ( see page 63 ). Y our phone has an internal vibrating feature, so you can set y our phone to v ibrate when you receive a voice call. Activ ating vibrat ing ale rt 1. Press Menu 3 ( Pro files ).
78 Setting up your voice mailbox Befo re you can ret rieve any v oice messag es, you need to store your voice m ailbox number . Y our service provider usually gives this numbe r to you. When you’re ready to store your voice mailbox numbe r , press Men u 0-1-2-2 ( Messages - V oice me ssages - V oice m ailb ox number ).
79 • Urgen t voice m ail - The person w ho sends this kind of message is re questing an im mediate reply. This kind of message can be sent by an yone. • Emerg enc y voice mail - This kind of message can be sent only by a network operator or person in authority when life of property is threatened.
80 Earpiece volume While in a phone c all, you ca n adjus t the listen ing volum e for your ph one’s earpiece . The top scro ll key incre ases while the bott om one decreases the volum e.
81 3. Highlight Customize and press OK . Scroll t o Warning and game tone s , then press Select . 4. Scroll to On or Of f and press OK . Welco me note Y ou can program a we lcome note into your phone to display a message when you first turn it on (for example, hello, your name, a rem inder , etc.
82 6. Receiving mobile m e ssages Note : You can receiv e mobile mes sages if you have subscribed to the mobile messagin g service offered by your service provider and the netw ork in which you are using your phone supports m obile messaging.
83 message. The priority level assigned to the receive d message determ ines which m essage is de leted: • Normal (non-e mergen cy) mess ages - W hen a normal message is received, the oldest read message in t he Inbox is de leted.
84 • Save addr ess a llows you to s ave the s ender's email address into your phone book. • Use w eb link allows you to direct the Minibrowser to a web address (URL) that appe ars in the body of the message . (Availab ility of the Min ibrowser depends on your arrangement w ith your service provider .
85 7. Sending mobile messages Note : Y ou can se nd mobile ( text) messa ges if you have subscribed to the mobile messagin g service offered by your service provider and the netw ork in which you are using your phone supports m obile messaging.
86 Message priorit y levels Y ou can a ssign a n u rgent prior ity leve l to a m obile mes sage . An icon or message should then appear on th e recipient’s phone (o r other device) to indicate the high priority level of you r message .
87 • If the message is in the Saved folder , press Me nu 0-1-1-4 ( Messages - T ext messag es - Saved ). Scroll to the m essa ge. 2. Press Read . 3. Press Options , Reply (or Reply w/ copy if you wa nt your reply to include a copy o f the original me ssage followed by the text of your re ply).
88 When en tering a n address manually , you ca n quickly enter the @ symbol by pressing repeatedly until it appears. When addressing multiple recipients, separate each address with a com m a. I f yo u use t he Search feature, a comma i s automatically entered af ter each addre ss.
89 Activating p redic tive tex t input Before you ca n use the predictiv e text in put me thod, you must activate t he feature. W hile editing a messa ge, press Options , Dicti onary , then choos e any language. The predictive text input method is now available for use when edi ting.
90 Writing co mpound wor ds To quickly write a compound word (f or example, bluejay): 1. Write the first part ( blue ). 2. Press (do not en ter a space). Th e unde rline disappears from th e first part. 3. Write t he second pa rt ( ja y ). Deleti ng cha ract ers To d el et e one charac ter to th e left of the cursor , pres s Clear .

92 Brackets ( [ ] ) in a templa te represen t a value that you can specify. (The valu e is no t retain ed fo r futu re use; you ent er the value each time you use the template.) If you select a templ ate th at conta ins br ack ets, yo u’l l be pro mpted to enter a value.
93 8. Data and F ax Ca lls No te : This fea ture i s avail able only if yo ur serv ice provid er’s network supports data and fax calls. Data and fax calls may also require that you subscribe to these additional services. Please check with your service provider befo re sendi ng or rece iving da ta or fax ca lls.
