About your device The wireless device described in this guid e is approved for use on the GSM 850, 900, 1800, and 1900 MHz networks. Contact your service provider for more information about networks. Your device supports several connectivity methods and like computers may be exposed to viruses and oth er harmful content.
Note: The surface of this device does not contain nickel in the platings. The surface of this device contains sta inless steel. Network services To use the device you must have servic e from a wireless service provider.
1. Find help In-device help Your device contains instructions to help to use the applications in your devi ce. To open help texts from the main menu, select Menu > Help and the appli cation for which you want to read instructions. When an application is open , to access the help text for the current view, select Options > Help .
● Restore the original factory settings as explained in the user guide. Your documents and files are not deleted in the reset. If the issue remains unsolved, cont act Nokia for repair option s. See www.nokia.com/repair. B efore sending your device for repair, always back up the data in your device.
To download the available updates, select Opt ions > St art update . To unmark updates, select the updat es. To view information on an update, se lect Options > View details .
Prolong battery life Many features in your device increase th e demand on battery power and reduce the battery lifetime. To save batt ery power, note the following: ● Features that use Bluetooth coonectivit y, or allowing such features to run in the background while using other features, increase the demand on battery power.
Free memory To view how much space is availabl e for different data types, select Menu > Applications > File mgr. . Many features of the device use memory to store data. The device notifies you if the memory in different memory locati ons is low.
1. Open the cover of the SIM card slot. 2. Insert a SIM card in the SIM card slot. Ensure that the co ntact area o n the card is facing down and the bevelled corner is facing toward the device. Push the card in. 3. Close the cover of the SIM card slot.
1. Remove the back cover by lifting it from the top end of the device. 2. Insert the battery. 3. To replace the cover, direct the bottom locking catches toward their slots, and press down u ntil the cover locks into place. Insert the memory card Use only compatible microSD and microSDH C cards approved by Nokia for use with this device.
1. Open the cover of the memory card slot. 2. Insert a compatible memory card in the memory card slot. Ensu re that the contact area on the card is facing down. Push the card in. You can hear a click when the card locks into place. 3. Close the cover of the memory card slot.
3. When the device indicates a fu ll charge, disconnect the charger from the device, then from the w all outlet. You do not need to charge the battery for a specific length o f time, and you can use the device while it is chargi ng.

Stylus Some functions, such as handwriting recognition, are designed to be used with a stylus. The pen stylus is located in the back cover of the device. Important: Use only a stylus approved by Nokia for use with this device. Using a ny other stylus may invalidat e any warranty applying to the device a nd may damage t he touch screen.
The screen and keys may be locked auto matically after a period of inactivity. To change the setting s for automatic screen and key locking, select Menu > Settings and Phone > Phone mgmt.
Music keys When music or the radio is playing in th e background, music ke ys (play/pau se, skip backward, and skip forward) are displayed in the home screen. Access the menu To access the menu, press the menu key. To open an application o r fold er in the menu, double-tap it.
Drag To drag, place your finger or the stylus on the screen, and slide it across the screen. Example: T o s c r o l l u p o r d o w n o n a w e b p a g e , d r a g t h e p a g e w i t h y o u r f i n g e r or stylus. Swipe To swipe, slide your finger quic kly left or right on the screen.
Media key To open applications such as the music player or browser, select the medi a key ( ) to open the media bar, and select the application. Tip: Hold your finger or the stylus on the icon to see the name of the a pplication. To open the application, raise your finger or the stylus.
Nokia Care services If you need to contact Nokia Care services, check the list of local Nokia Care contact centres at www. nokia.com/customerservice . Maintenance For maintenance services, find your nea rest Nokia Care point at www. nokia.com/ repair.
If the other device cannot be switched on without a SI M card, you can insert your SIM card in it. When your de vice is switched on without a SIM card, the Offline profile is automatically activated, and transfer can be done. Transfer content for the first time 1.
There are messages waiting to be sent in the Outbox folder. You have missed calls. The ringing type is s et to Silent, and the messa ge and e-mail alert tones are turned off. A timed profile is active. The touch screen and keys are locked. A clock alarm is active.
A USB connection is active. Synchronisation is in progress. Contacts bar Start using the contacts bar To start using the contacts ba r and add your contacts to the home screen, select > Options > New cont act , and follow the instructions.
Offline profile To activate the Offline profile, pr ess the power key briefly, and select Offline . The Offline profile lets you use the de vice without connecting to the wireless network. When you activat e the Offline profile, the connection to the wireless network is turned off, as indicated by in the signal streng th indicator area.
To switch to another profile, press the po wer key briefly, and select another profile. The device re-enables wire less transmissions (providing th ere is sufficient sig nal strength). Shortcuts To switch between open applications, press and hold the menu key.
Sensor settings and display rotation When you activate the s ensors in your device, you can control certain functions by turning the device. Select Menu > Settings and Phone > Se nsor sett ings . Select from the following: ● Sensors — Activate the sen sors.
unit, connect the unit to the Nokia AV Co nnector in the device, then connect the headphones to the unit. Warning: When you use the h eadset, your ability to hear outside sounds may be affect ed. Do not use the he adset where it can endanger your safety.
3. Open the cover of the SIM card s lot. Place the ti p of the stylus in the openin g under the battery, and push the SIM c ard sideways t o slide it out o f the slot.
4. Make calls Proximity sensor Your device has a proximity sensor. To prevent accidental selections, the touch screen is disabled automatically du ring ca lls when you place the device next to your ear. Do not cover the proximity sensor, for ex ample, with protective film or tape.
To end the call, select . To switch between the acti ve and held calls, select Op tions > Swap . Tip: When you have only one act ive voice call, to put the call on hold, press the call key. To activate the held call, press the call key again. To send DTMF tone strings (for example, a password), select Options > Send DTMF .
You can send a text messag e without reje cting the call, info rming the caller that you cannot answer the call. To a ctivate the text message option and write a standard reply message, select Menu > Sett ings and Calling > Call > Reject call with messag e , and Message t ext .
Speed dial a phone number To activate speed dialling, select Menu > Settings and Calling > Call > Speed dialling . 1. To assign a phone number to one of the number keys, select Menu > Settings and Calling > Speed dialling . 2. Go to the key to which you want to assign the phone number, and select Options > Assign .
Make a call with a voice tag Note: Using voice tags may be difficult in a noisy envi ronment or during an emergency, so you should not rely solely upon voice dialling in all circumstances. When you use voice dialling, the loudspeaker is in use. Hold the devic e at a short distance away when you say the voice tag.
● Call — Call the desired contact. ● Create message — Send a message to the desired contact. ● Open Contacts — Open the contacts list. Select Options and from the following: ● Save to Contacts — Save the highlighted phone number from a recent call s list to your contacts.
Monitor all communication events Select Menu > Log . To open the general log where you can mo nitor all voice calls , text messages, or data and wireless LAN connections registered by the device, select the general log tab .
2. Tap a field to enter the information in the field. To close th e text input, select . Fill in the fields that you want, and select Done . To edit contacts , select a contact an d Option s > Edit . Contacts toolbar On the contacts list toolbar, select from the following: ● Call — Call the desired contact.
Ringing tones, images, and call text for co ntacts You can defin e a ringing tone fo r a contact or group, and an image and a call text for a contact. When the contact calls you, t he device plays the selected ringing tone and shows the call text or image (if the ca ller’s phone number is sent with the call and your device recognises it).
SIM contacts To set the na mes and number s stored on th e SI M card to be shown on the contacts list, select Options > Settings > Contacts to display > SIM memory . You can add and edit SIM contacts, or call th em. The numbers you save in the conta cts list may not be automatically saved to you r SIM card.
6. Write text You can enter letters, numbers, and special characters in several differ ent ways. The on-screen keyboards allow you to enter cha racters by tappin g them with your fingers or the stylus. Handwriting recognition allows you to write character s directly onto the screen using the stylus as a pen.
4 — Shift and caps lock - To enter an uppe rcase character when writing in lowerc ase, or vice versa, select the key before entering the character. To activate the cap s lock, select the key twice. A line under the key indicates that the caps lock is activated.
To enter letters and numbers (defa ult mo de), write words as you would normally. To select number mode, tap in the right pane of the inpu t area. To enter non- Latin characters, tap th e corresponding icon, if available. To write special characters, write them as you would normally.

8 — Star - Opens a special characters table. 9 — Shift - Changes the character cas e, turn s predictive text input modes on or off, and switches betw een the alphabet and number modes. Traditional text input Tap a number key (1-9) re peatedly until the de sired character appears.

Messaging main view Select Menu > Messag ing (network service). To create a new message, select New message . Tip: To avoid rewriting messages that you send often, use texts in th e Templates folder in My folders. You can also create and save your own templates.
The wireless net work may limit the size of MMS m essages. If th e inserted pictu re exceeds this limit, the device may make it smaller so that it can be sent by MMS. Only devices that have co mpatible features can rece ive and display multimedia messages.
Messaging inbox Receive messages Select Menu > Messag ing and Inbox . In the Inbox folder, indicates an unread text message, an unread multimedia message, an unread audio message, and data received through Bluetooth connectivity. When you receive a message, and 1 new message are displ ayed in the home screen.
To save the data from the messag e, select Options and the corresponding option. Web service messages are notifications (f or example, news headlines) and ma y contain a text messag e or a link. For availabili ty and subs cription, contact your service provider.
To connect to your mailbox and retrieve new e-mail headers or messages, select Yes . When you view messages online, you are continuously connected to a remote mailbox using a data connection. To view previously retrieved e- mail messages offline, select No .
Setting the device to ret rieve e-mail au tomatically may involve the transmission of large amounts of data throu gh your service provider's network. Contact your service provider for information abou t data transmission cha rges. Delete e-mail messages Select Menu > Messag ing and a mailbox.
Before starting to set up Mail for Exch ange, ens ure that yo u have the following: ● A corporate e-mail ID ● Your office network user nam e ● Your office network password ● Your network domai.
Service commands Select Menu > Messag ing and Options > Service commands . With service commands (network service) you can enter and send service r equests (also known as USSD comm ands), such as a ctivation commands for network services, to your service provider.
● Reply via same centre — Select whether you want the reply message to be sent using the sa me text message centre number (n etwork service). Multimedia message settings Select Menu > Messag ing and Options > Settings > Multimed ia messa ge .
● Message validity — Select for how long th e message centre resends your message if the first attempt fails ( netwo rk service). If the mes sage cannot be sent within this time pe riod, the message is deleted from the message centre. The device requires network support to indicate that a sent message has been received or read.
To change the theme that is used for all the applications in your device, select General . To preview a theme before activatin g it, scroll to the theme, and wait for a few seconds. To activate the theme, select Options > Set . The active theme is indicated by .
9. Music folder Music player Music player supports file formats such as AAC, AAC+, eAA C+, MP3, and WMA. Music player does not necessarily support all featur es of a file format or all the variations of file formats. You can also use Music player to listen to podcas ts.
To fast-forward or rewind, tap and hold or . To go to the next item, tap . To return to the beginni ng of the item, tap . To skip to the previous item, tap again within 2 seconds af ter a song or podcast h as started. To turn random play ( ) on or off, select Options > Shuffle play .
4. If you select Yes , select artists to fin d the songs you want to add to the playli st. Select Add to add items. To show the song list unde r an artist title , select Expand . To hide the song list, select Collapse . 5. When you have made your selections, select Done .

A compati ble memory card must be inserted in the device. ● To synchronise music with Windows Medi a P layer, connect a compat ible USB data cable, and select Media transfer as the connection mode.
Nokia Music Store settings The availability and app earance of the Nokia Music Store settin gs may vary. The settings may also be predefined and not ed itable. You may be asked to select the access point to use when connecting to the Nokia Music Store.
● Save to — Define the location where yo u want to save yo ur podcasts . ● Update inte rval — Define how often podcasts are updated. ● Next update date — Define the date of the next au tomatic up date. ● Next update time — Define the time of the next automatic update.
Radio Listen to the radio Select Menu > Music > Radio . The FM radio depends on an an tenna othe r than the wireless device antenna. A compatible headset or accessory n eeds to be attached to the dev ice for the FM radio to function properly.
To set the desired freq uency manually, select Optio ns > Tune stations > Options > Manual tuning . 10. Nokia Video Centre With Nokia Video Centre (network servic e), you can download and stream video clips over the air from compatible intern et video services using a packet data or WLAN connection.
Some video clips can be streamed over the air, but others must be first downloaded to your device. To download a video clip, select Opt ions > Download . Downloads continue in the backgrou nd if you exit the application. The downloaded video clips are saved in My videos.
● Manage account — Manage your account o ptions for a particular feed, if available. ● Move — Move video clips to a desired location. To view the videos available in a feed, select a feed from the list. My videos My videos is a storage place for all video clips in the Video centre ap plication.
3. Select the video clips you want to copy from your PC. 4. Transfer the video clips to E:My Videos in the memory card. The transferred video clips appear in the M y videos folder in Video centre. Video files in other folders of your device are not displayed.
Activate the camera To activate the camera, press t he capture key. Image capture On-screen controls and indica tors for still image capture The still image viewfinder displays the following: 1 — Capture mode indicator 2 — Zoom slider. To turn the zoom slider on and off, tap the screen.
The capture and recording se ttings view provides you with shortcuts to different items and settings before capturing an image or recording a video clip. The capture and recording sett ings return to the default sett ings after you close th e camera. Select from the following: — Select the scene.
If you select a new scene, the capture se ttings are replaced by the selected scene. You can chang e the capture settin gs after selecting a scene if needed. Saving the captured image may take long er if you change the zoom, lighting, or colour settings.
● — Send the image in a multimedia or e-mail message, or through connection methods such as Bluetooth conn ectivity. ● — Upload the image to a comp atible online album. ● Delete — Delete the image. To use the image as wallpaper in the home screen, select Options > Use image > Set as w allpaper .
To change the scene, select > Scene mod es and a scene. To make your own scene suitable for a certain environment, scroll to User defined , and select Change . In the user defined scene you can adjust different lighting and colour settings. To copy th e settings of anoth er scene, select Based on scene mode and the desired scene.
You in the image — self-timer Use the self-timer to delay the capture so tha t you can include yourself in the image. To set the self-timer delay, select > , and the delay needed before the image is captured. To activate the self-timer, select Activat e .
2. To start recording, press the capture key or tap . A red record icon is displayed, and a tone sou nds. 3. To pause recording at any time, select Pause . To resu me, select Co ntinue . If you pause recording and do not press any key within one minute, the recording stops.
9 — Available recording time. When you are recording, the current video length indicator also shows th e elapsed and remain ing time. 10 — The location to whi ch the video clip is sa ved.
You can browse, open, and cr eate folder s; and mark, copy, move, and add items to folders. Files stored on your compatible memory card (if inserted) are indicated with . To open a file, select a file from the li st. Video clips and file s with the .ram file extension open and play in Video centre, and music and so und clips in Music player.
● Edit — Edit the selected image or video clip. ● Delete — Delete the selected image or video clip. Organise images and videos Select Menu > Gallery and Image s & videos > Options and from the following: ● Folder opt ions — To move files to folders, select Move to folder .
1. To activate a service , open the Share on line application in your device, select a service and Options > Activate . 2. Allow the device to create a network connection. If you are prompted for an internet access point, se lect one from the list.
To set the level of privacy for a file, select Privacy: . To allow everyone to view your file, select Public . To restrict others from seeing your files, select Private . You can define the Default setting on the service provider's website. To send the post to the service, select Options > Upl oad .
Important: Only inst all and use ap plications and other so ftware from trusted sources, such as applications th at are Symbian Si gned or have passed the Ja va Verified™ testing. To browse a web page, in the bookmarks view, select a bookmark, or enter the address in the field ( ), and select Go to .
Browser toolbar The browser toolbar helps yo u select freq uently used functions of the browser. From the toolbar, sele ct from the following: ● Expand toolbar — Expand the toolb ar to a ccess more toolbar functions. ● Go to web address — Enter a new web address.
Web feeds and blogs Web feeds are XML files on web pages that ar e used to share, for example, the latest news headlines or blogs. Blogs or weblogs are web diaries. It is common to find web feeds on web, blog, and wiki pages. The web browser application automatically detects if a web page contains web feeds.
To search for text, phone numbers, or e-ma il ad dresses within the current web pa ge, select Options > Find keyword and the appropriate option. To go to the previous match, select Options > Find previou s . To go to the next match, select Options > Find next .
Bookmarks The bookmarks view opens wh en you open the Web applicatio n. You can select web addresses from a list or from a collection of bookmarks in the Recently v isited pages folder. The toolbar helps you select frequent ly used functions of the browser.
Connection security If the security indicator ( ) is displayed during a connection, the data transmission between the device and the internet ga teway or server is encrypted. The security i con does no t indicate that the data tr ansmissio n between the gatew ay and the content server (where the data is stored) is secure.
Your device does not have an inte rnal GPS antenna . To use applications t hat require a GPS connection, use a compatible GPS re ceiver (accessory sold separately). Use Bluetooth connectivity t o connect to the GPS receiver. You can also us e network-based po sitioning with yo ur device.
The trip meter has limited accuracy, and ro unding errors may o ccur. Accuracy can also be affected by availabili ty and quality of GPS signals. Different positioning methods can be enable d or disabled in positioning settings. Check the satellite signal stat us Your device does not have an inte rnal GPS antenna .
Position requests You may receive a request from a network service to receive your position information. Service providers may offer information about local topics, such as weather or traffic conditions, based on the location of your device. When you receive a position request, th e service that is making the request is displayed.
GPS data GPS data is designed to provide rout e guidance information to a selected destination, position information about your current location, and traveli ng information, such as the approximate distance to the destination and approxi mate duration of travel.
16. Connectivity Your device offers several options to connect to the internet or to another compatible device or PC. Data connections and access p oints Your device su pports pa cket data connec tions (network servi ce), such a s GPRS in the GSM network.
● Cell info display — Set the device to indicate when it is used in a cellular network based on microcellular network (MCN) technology and to activate cell info reception. Wireless LAN Your device can detect and connect to wi reless local area networks (WLAN).
WLAN connections To use a wireless LAN (WLAN) connecti on, you must create an internet access point (IAP) for WLAN. Use the acces s point for applications that need to connect to the internet. A WLAN connection is es tablished when you create a data connection using a WLAN internet access point.
WLAN internet access points Select Menu > Settings and Connecti vity > Wireless LAN > Options . Select from the following: ● Filter WLAN networks — Filter out wireless LANs (W LANs) from the list of found networks. The selected networks are not display ed the next time th e application searches for WLAN s.
every time, or to never perform th e connectivity test. If you select Run automatically or allow the test to be performed when the device asks for i t, and the connectivity test is performed successfully , the access point is saved to th e internet destinations.
Depending on the data con nection you select, only certain setting fields are available. Fill in all fields marked with Must be defined or with a red *.
Follow the instructions from your service provider. Select from the following: ● Access point name — You obtain the access poin t name from your service provider. ● User nam e — The user name may be needed to make a data connection, and is usually provided by your service provider.
To edit a wirele ss LAN (WLAN ) access point, open one of the a ccess point groups and select an access point m arked with . Follow the instructions from your WLAN service provider. ● WLAN network name — Select Ent er manually or Search for netwo rks .
● WPA/WPA2 — Se lect the means of authentication: EAP to use an extensible authentication protocol (EAP) plug-in, or Pr e-shared key to use a password. Complete the appropriate settings: ● EAP plug-in settings — Enter the settings according t o the instructions from your service provider.
Note: The actual invoice for calls and se rvices from your service provider may vary, depending on ne tw ork features, rounding off for billing, taxes, and so forth. To end a connection, select Option s > Disconnect . To end all open connections, select Optio ns > Disconnect all .
You can use the connection to send images , video clips, music and sound clips, and notes, transfer files from your compati bl e PC, and print im ages with a com patible printer . Since devices with B luetooth wireless te chnology communicate using radio wa ves, they do not need to be in direct line-o f-sight.
● Remote SI M mode — Enable or disable anothe r device, such as a compatible car kit accessory, to use the SIM card in your device to connect to the network.
4. If the other device requires pairing before data can be transmitted, a tone sounds, and you are asked to ente r a passcode. The sam e passcode must be entered in both devices. When the connection is established, Sending data is displayed. Tip: When searching for devices, some devices may show only the unique address (device address).
● Set as unauthorised — Co n n e c t i o n r e q u e s ts f r o m t h i s d e v i c e m u s t b e a c c e p t e d separately every time. To cancel a pairing with a device, select Option s > Delete . To cancel all pairings, select Options > Delete all .
To use the remote SIM mode wi th a compatib le car kit a ccessory, activate Bluetooth connectivity, and enable the use of the remote SIM mode with your device. Activat e the remote SIM mode from the other device. When the remote SIM mode is on in your device, Remote SIM mode is displayed in the home screen.
PC connections You can use your m obile device with a va riety of compatible PC connectivity and data communica tions applic ations. With Nokia Ovi Suite you can, for example, transfer files and images between your device and a compatib le comput er. To use Ovi Suite with USB connection mode, select PC Suit e mode .
Session Initiation Pr otocol (SIP) settings are needed for certain network services using SIP. You m ay receive the settings in a special text message from your service provider. You can view, delete, or create these setting profiles in SIP settings. Access point name control Select Menu > Settings and Connecti vity > Admin.
To search for web pages on the internet, select Search t he Internet , a search provider, and enter your search terms in th e search field. The search provider you selected is set as your default internet search provider.
To update the content in Download! manually, select Options > Refresh content . Purchase and download items To buy the selected item in the main view, a folder, or a catalogue, select Options > Buy . A submenu opens where you can select the version of the item and view price information.
To turn off the alarm when the alarm expires , select Stop . To snooze the alarm, select Snooze . If your device is switched off when an alarm expires, your device switches itself on a nd starts soun ding the alarm tone. To define the snooze time, select Options > Settings > Alarm snooze time .
