If you tr y to copy them, the Recorder display may sho w “COPY PRO TECT . ” • If the Recorder’ s display sho ws “NO SIGNAL, ” adjust the track- ing or play the videotape on the VCR/Camcorder/External VCR.
18 Initial Setup Initial Setup screens will a ppear the very first time you turn on the Recorder . These on-screen messages and men us will help you set up Recor der features quickly , including TV channels and language options. During Initial Setup , “IS TV ON? CO3” will appear on the Recorder’ s displa y panel.

20 Quick Videotape Playback Read and follow the steps belo w to pla y a videotape . 1 T urn on the TV . Set it to channel 3 or 4 or its AUDIO/VIDEO IN channel. This depends on how you connected the Recor der to a TV . See pages 10-14. 2 With the Recorder po wer off, insert a videotape in the cas- sette compartment of the Recorder .

22 Quick Disc Recor ding The Recorder can r ecord TV programming onto a D VD+R W or D VD+R. Befor e you begin, set up TV channels. See pages 18-19 and 28. Use an unpr o- tected, unfinalized, recordable D VD+R W/D VD+R. 1 Press D VD so the D VD light appears on the front of the Recorder .

28 TV Channel Pr ogr amming Although the Recorder selects a vailable TV channels during Initial Setup, y ou ma y want to repeat the pr ocess later if more channels become a vail- able in your ar ea. This will erase and replace all pr eviously stor ed channels.
VCR Plus+ ® Channels 29 If you intend to use the VCR Plus+ ® programming system, pr ogram the Recorder with y our local channel information. This will only tak e a few min- utes.
30 Clock Setting Time/Date Automatic The Recorder can set the time and date automatically b y referring to a PBS station. If the Recor der chooses an incorr ect PBS channel or sets the time/date incorr ectly , set the clock manually . See page 31. Befor e you begin, make sur e TV channels are set.

38 Zoom, Camera Angle Zoom Zooming lets you enlarge the video image during pla y and pan through the enlarged image. ● Befor e you begin, make sur e the Recorder is in D VD mode. F ollow the steps below to cop y a videotape to a D VD+R or D VD+R W . This will be possible only if the videotape is not cop y protected. ● Befor e you begin, turn on the TV and set it to channel 3 or its Video Input. 1 Put the videotape y ou want to copy in the cassette compartment.

46 VCR Plus+ ® Timer Recor ding (D VD mode only) A PlusCode ® n umber is a number of up to eight digits, printed in most TV guides next to the start time of a TV program. Y ou can schedule a timer r ecor ding quickly by entering the code for your TV program.

48 Err or Messages These messages ma y appear while or after you set a timer r ecording. Collision The timer recor ding overlaps with another timer r ecording. Timer r ecord- ings that ov erlap or conflict with another will appear in a r ed highlight in the Timer List.

Append Recor ding, Chapter Markers 51 Append recor ding To add a ne w video recor ding to a previously r ecorded Title , follo w these steps. This f eature is not a vailable on D VD+Rs, which alwa ys record at the end of the Disc. ● Befor e you begin, make sur e the Recorder is in D VD mode.

Editing: Disc Information Screen 53 Y ou can change Disc settings for a D VD+R W/D VD+R fr om the Disc Information Scr een. ● Befor e you begin, make sur e the Recorder is in D VD mode. Press D VD so the D VD light appears on the front of the Recor der .
54 Editing • The maximum number of Chapters per Title var ies. When you reach the maximum num- ber , “T oo many c hapters” may appear on the screen. Delete Chapters before making more. •Y ou cannot undo a Title division. The Index Picture Screen will show two Titles instead of one .
Finaliz e Disc 55 Y ou can recor d and finalize DVD+Rs one time. After you fill a D VD+R or complete all the recor dings you want on a single D VD+R, finalize it. Otherwise, the D VD+R will pla y only on this Recorder . T o pla y the Disc on other D VD Pla yers, y ou must finalize it first.
56 Auto Resume , Playback Control Auto Resume Auto resume aff ects the last 20 prer ecorded D VDs and Video CDs you pla yed. When Auto r esume is On, pla y resumes where y ou last stopped the Disc. If Auto resume is Off, pla y star ts at the beginning of the Disc.
Access Contr ol 57 Access Control limits vie wing of Discs that exceed the limits you set. This fea- ture will not limit vie wing if the Disc manufacturer did not code the Disc. Magna vox cannot guarantee the a vailability of Access Control with all Discs, and theref ore denies an y liability associated with unintended watching of Discs.

Access Contr ol (cont'd) 61 Change Country If a Disc has Parental Le vel coding, the codings are applicable onl y for the countr y specified on the Disc. The Disc man ufacturer sets these codings. F or example, a Disc ma y be coded at Level 3 for the United States.

•T he picture format you select f or TV Shape must be on the DV D. If not, the settings for TV Shape will not affect the pic- ture. • Some widescreen TVs may show only par t of the Recor der’ s menu. Adjust the screen mode on your TV . See your TV owner’ s manual for details.
64 Digital Output After connecting the Recorder to y our TV and other equipment, you ma y need to change the Recorder’ s Digital Output setting. Look to see which Recorder audio jacks y ou connected to your other equipment, then set Digital Output accordingly .
Analog Output 65 •Y ou also can set analog sound in the Menu Bar . See page 39. Helpful Hint If you connected the Recorder’ s white/red A UDIO OUT L/R jac ks to a Stereo or TV as shown on pag es 12-15, c hoose a setting for Analog Output. Check your Ster eo or TV and see if it is compatible with Dolby Surr ound.
66 Language Settings In the Language menu, select a differ ent language for the Audio soundtrack or Subtitles of a D VD . Or , change the language of the Recorder’ s System Menu. Y ou also can determine whether you r eceive TV channels in Stereo or a Second Audio Program language b y following these steps.

72 Rerecor ding (T ape Duplication) • If you use the AUDIO and VIDEO IN jacks on the bac k of Recor der 2, press CHANNEL +/- to select EXT2 at step 5. EXT2 will appear on the TV screen. • If you use the AUDIO and VIDEO In jacks on the front of Recorder 2, press CHANNEL +/- to select C AM1 at step 5.
F ollow the steps belo w to copy a D VD to a videotape. This will be possi- b le only if the D VD is not copy pr otected. Befor e you begin: ● Put a videotape in the cassette compartment. Make sur e the tape’ s r ecor d tab is intact and the tape is long enough to record the D VD .
74 T ape Counter • Y ou may only set the counter to zero at one location at a time. Setting the counter to zer o at a second location will erase the previous z ero setting. • If you remo ve the tape , the counter will reset to z ero at the point at which you last stopped playback whenever you reinser t the tape .
Time Search, Index Search 75 • Time Search and Index Searc h are not available during record- ing. • To cancel a searc h, pr ess STOP C . • Y ou can set up to 20 Index Marks. Helpful Hints Time Sear ch F ollow the steps belo w to search forward or backwar d on a tape a specific length of time.

A C-3 : Audio Coding 3, also known as Dolb y Digital; a multi-channel digital audio compr ession system from Dolb y Labs. Analog: Sound that has not been turned into numbers. Analog sound varies, while digital sound has spe- cific numerical values. Analog sound is a vailable when you use the r ed and white audio jacks on your equipment.
MPEG: Motion Picture Experts Group . A collection of compr ession systems for digital audio and video . O TR: One-T ouch Recording. Start a timed recor ding by pushing just one button; select the s witch-off time in inter vals of 30 min utes. P an & Scan: A TV aspect ratio setting (4:3).
