5 Basic Setup NOTE: This DVR fe atures unique mounting options and can be mounted t o back of LCD monitors with a VESA mount. For mounting instructions, see “Appendix E : Mounting the DVR to a VESA Mount” on page 113 . If you intend to mount the DVR, it is recommended to do so before completing setup.

ATTENTION : The instructions in this manual describe how to operate the DVR using a mouse (included). When using a touch screen monitor (not included), simpl y touch the on-scr een buttons when told t o click, swipe your finger horizontall y or verticall y to scr oll up / down, and touch to right-click and exit menus.

16 On-screen Display Using the On-Screen Keyboard An on-screen keyboard appears when entering certain menu options that require text input (for example, Email setup).
17 On-screen Display • 8-channel : Choose fr om quad (CH1~4, CH5~8) or 9-wa y split (the bottom-right squar e appears blacked out). • 16-channel : Choose from quad (CH1~4, CH5~8 , CH9-12, CH13~16), 9-way split (CH1~9, CH 10~2), or 16-way split (CH1~16).
18 On-screen Display To re-assign cam era positions using a touch screen monitor: 1 Pr ess and hold your finger on the channel you want to r e-assign. • A camera menu appears. NOTE: T apping on the screen may c ause the DVR t o switch to Singl e-Channel / Full-Scr een mode.
19 Setting the Date and Time It is highly recommended to immediately set the date and time when first setting up your DVR. Inaccur ate time stamps may r ender your foot age unusable as co ur t ev id en ce . To set the date and time: 1 Click to open the Main Menu.
20 Recording By default, the system is set to immediately record video from all connected cameras in Continuous Record Mode. You can set the system to stop recording once the hard drive is full, or to continually record by overwriting previously recorded data.
21 Event List Event List The system features an Event List to organize and search for recorded video on the system. Events in the Event List are marked with Smart Search icons, which allows you to search for recorded data on your syst em quickly and easily.

24 Playback Playback Playback mode allows you to view video reco rdings saved on your DVR. You can playback video from a single channel in Single-Channel / Full-Screen mode or from multiple channels in Split-Screen view.

26 Taking Screenshots Taking Screenshots ATTENTION : Video footage i s preferable to scre enshots when submi tting surveillance evidence in court. For instructions on how to backup or extract video footage fr om your DVR, see “Backup” on page 43.

28 Managing Passwords Managing Passwords ATTENTION : By default, passwords are disabled on the system, which allows anyone to access the menus and change DVR settings. It is recommended to enable passw ords. See “Enabling and Disabling Passwords” on page 29.

33 Using the Main Menu Setup The Setup Menu allows you to configure system settings including, the date / time, language, video settings, passwords, and the internal fan speed. You can also view system information or reset the DVR to factory settings Setup Menu .

Click HDMI Screen Size and scroll up / down to adjust the screen size NOTE: Adjusting the HDMI Scr een Size setting has no eff ect if the monitor is connect ed with a VGA cable.
35 Using the Main Menu Record The Record Menu allows you to configure video recording parameters, including recording mode, schedule and camera vid eo settings. Camera video settings include the video frame rate, image quality, resolution, and audio settings.
36 Using the Main Menu Reading the Storage Calculator A storage calculator shows the approximate maximum continuous recording time available on the hard drive based on your settings.
37 Using the Main Menu The HDD Information menu shows the following information about your hard drives: • Rec o rd Mode: C u rre n t re co rd i n g mo d e sel ected. • HDD Mode: Curr ent external har d drive mode sel ected. • Ve n d o r : V endor information about your har d drives.
38 Using the Main Menu NOTE: The DVR supports a single ext ernal hard driv e up t o a maximum size of 2TB. The ext ernal har d drive must be self-power ed to work with the system; it cannot r eceive power fr om the DVR’ s USB port. NOTE: F ootage on the e xternal hard driv e can onl y be acc essed using the DVR or a Windows PC.
39 Using the Main Menu Configuring your External Hard Drive for HDD Mirroring or Extension You can connect a single self-powered external hard drive (not included) to the USB port on the rear panel of the DVR for HDD Mirroring or Extension ( see “External Hard Drive Mirroring or Extension” on page 37 for details).
40 Using the Main Menu Alarm The Alarm Menu allows you to configure settings for alarms and motion detection. It also allows you to enable and disable the system buzzers.
