Chapter 2. Safety information This chapter contains the safety information that you need to be familiar with before servicing a computer . General safety F ollow these rules to ensur e general safety: • Observe good housekeeping in the area of the machines during and after maintenance.

Chapter 5. Using the Setup Utility The Setup Utility pr ogram is used t o view and change the congur ation settings of your computer , regar dless of which operating system you are using. However , the oper ating-system settings might override any similar settings in the Setup Utility pr ogram.
Administrator P assword Setting an Administr ator Passwor d det ers unauthoriz ed persons fr om changing conguration settings. Y ou might want to set an Administrat or P assword if you are responsible for maintaining the settings of sever al computers.
T o set a Power -On P assword, do the following: 1. Start the L enovo BIOS Setup Utility pr ogram (See ”Starting the L enovo BIOS Setup Utility pr ogram” on page 13.) 2. F rom the Security menu, select Set Power -On P assword and pr ess the Enter key .

Replacing the keyboar d and mouse Note: Y our keyboard will be connected to a USB connect or at either front or at the rear of the comput er . T o r eplace the keyboard: Step 1. Remove any media (disks, CDs, or memory cards) from the drives, shut down the computer , and turn off all attached devices.
Step 5. Slide the computer cover out t o remove it. Step 6. T o r einstall the comput er cover: a. Line up the comput er cover with the chassis then slide it back. b. Secur e the comput er cover t o the chassis with the scr ews. Removing the front bez el Note: F or this procedure, it helps to lay the comput er at.
Step 2. Remove the fr ont bez el by r eleasing the three plastic tabs inside the chassis and sliding the be zel out as shown. Step 3. T o reattach the bez el, align the plastic tabs on the bott om of the be zel with the corresponding holes in the chassis, and then snap it int o position.
Step 4. P osition the new memory module over the memory connector . Make sure that the notch 1 on the memory module aligns corr ectly with the connector key 2 on the syst em board. P ush the memory module str aight down into the connector until the retaining clips close.
Step 4. Remove the hard disk drive from the plastic br acket as shown. Step 5. Line up the new har d disk drive with the plastic br acket and snap it int o position. Step 6. Slide the new hard disk drive into the drive bay and slide the drive bay into place.
