Special keys F unction Searches applications and the W eb. Y ou also can use the Sear ch key t o enable the Caps L ock function by customizing it. When C aps Lock mode is enabled, the Caps L ock indicator is displayed on the screen. you can type all alphabetic char acters (A-Z) in upper case.

Chapter 3. Y ou and your computer This chapter provides information about accessibility, comfort, and tr aveling with your computer . Accessibility and comfort Good er gonomic pr actice is important to get the most fr om your personal computer and to avoid discomfort.
Head position : Keep your head and neck in a comfortable and neutr al (vertical, or upright) position. Chair : Use a chair that gives you good back support and seat height adjustment.
Assistive technologies Some accessibility t echnologies are available thr ough the Accessibility Options progr am. Depending on your oper ating system, the number of accessibility options available varies. In general, accessibility options enhance the way users with hearing, vision, or mobility limitations navigate and use their computer .

DANGER If the r echargeable battery pack is incorrectly replaced, ther e is danger of an e xplosion. The battery pack contains a small amount of harmful substances. T o avoid injury: • Replace only with a battery of the type recommended by L enovo. • Keep the battery pack away from re.
4. Insert a new battery until it clicks int o place 1 , and then slide the battery latch to the lock ed position 2 . 5. T urn the computer over again. Connect the ac power adapter and all cables. Replacing a PCI Express Mini Card for wir eless LAN connection Before you start, print these instructions.
4. Loosen the scr ews 1 , and then remove the cover 2 . 5. If a t ool for removing connectors is included in the package with the new card, use it t o disconnect the cables from the car d. If no such tool is included, disconnect the cables by picking up the connect ors with your ngers and gently unplugging them.
7. Align the contact edge of the new PCI Expr ess Mini C ard with the corresponding socket 1 . Pivot the card until you can snap it int o place. Secur e the car d with the scr ew 2 .

Replacing a memory module Before you start, print these instructions. Increasing memory capacity is an effective way to mak e pr ograms run fast er .
5. If two memory modules are already in the memory slots, press out on the latches on both edges of the socket at the same time 1 , and then r emove a memory module 2 to make room for the new one. Save the removed memory module for futur e use. 6. Find the notch on the contact edge side of the memory module you ar e installing.

4. Loosen the scr ews 1 , and then remove the cover 2 . 5. Remove the screws that secure the keyboar d. 6. T urn the computer over and open the display .
7. Push hard in the dir ection shown by the arrows 1 to unlatch the fr ont side of the keyboar d. The keyboard will be detached slightly 2 . 8. Remove the cables 2 and 4 by ipping the connect ors 1 and 3 upwards.
1. Attach the cables 1 and 3 by ipping the connectors 2 and 4 downward. 2. Insert the keyboard. Ensure that the r ear edge of the keyboard is under the fr ame.
3. Slide the keyboar d in the dir ection shown by the arrows, until the keyboar d is secur ed in place. 4. Reinstall the screws. 5. Attach the cover 1 and pivot it downwar d 2 .
6. Reinstall the batt er y . See “Replacing the batt ery” on page 27. 7. T urn the computer over again. Connect the ac power adapter and all cables.

Chapter 5. T roubleshooting computer problems When you e xperience a pr oblem, refer to the corr esponding sections in this topic t o try to solve the problem by yourself.
Carry your computer properly • Before moving your comput er , be sure t o r emove any media, turn off attached devices, and disconnect cords and cables. • When picking up your open computer , hold it by the bottom. Do not pick up or hold your computer by the display .
2. Wipe each key with the cloth. Wipe the keys one by one; if you wipe sever al k eys at a time, the cloth might hook onto an adjacent key and possibly damage it.
If the comput er still does not start up, call the Cust omer Support Center and a Cust omer Support Specialist will assist you. Spills on the k eyboard With a mobile computer , ther e ar e increased chances of spilling liquids on the keyboar d.
If you congured the adapter for full duplex, make sur e that the switch port also is congur ed for full duplex. Setting the wrong duple x mode can degr ade performance, cause data loss, or result in lost connections. – Y ou have installed all networking softwar e that is necessary for your network environment.
K eyboard problems • Problem : All or some keys on the keyboar d do not work. Solution : If an ext ernal numeric k eypad is connect ed: 1. T urn off the computer . 2. Remove the e xternal numeric k eypad. 3. T urn on the computer and try using the keyboar d again.
External monit or problems • Problem : The e xternal monitor is blank. Solution : T o solve the problem, do the following: 1. Connect the ext ernal monit or t o another comput er t o make sur e that it works. 2. Reconnect the ext ernal monitor to your computer .
• Problem : When you connect a headphone t o your comput er while playing sound, a speaker does not produce sound. Solution : Once the headphone is attached, the streaming is automatically redir ected to it. If you want t o listen t o sound from the speakers again, be sur e t o set those speakers as the default device.
If your comput er is getting no power at all, check the following items: 1. V erify the power butt on. Refer t o “Syst em status indicators” on page 5. The r ed dot in the ThinkP ad logo is lit whenever the comput er is on. 2. Check all power connections.
If the battery is charged and the temper ature is within range, have the computer serviced. • Problem : A critical low-batt ery err or occurs, and the computer immediately turns off.
