6 Preparation section Connecting the speakers When connecting the speakers, be sure to keep in mind the following points regarding speaker connection. ÷ Never short-circuit the “+” and “–” speaker cords.
Preparation section 7 System connection Speaker placement in a multichannel home theater setup Front speakers: Place to the front left and right of the listening position at equal distances from both the unit and the listening position. Front speakers are required for all surround modes.

Preparation section 17 Operation of the remote control unit Loading batteries 1 Remove the cover. 3 Close the cover. ÷ Insert two R6 (“AA”-size) batteries following the polarity indications. 2 Insert batteries. Operation Plug the power cord into the mains power outlet and press the POWER ( ) key of the remote control unit to turn the power ON.
18 Preparation section Operation of the MUL TI CONTROL setting mode The MULTI CONTROL keys make it possible to perform a number of functions in a simple procedure. When the MENU key is pressed, items appear in the display according to the MULTI CONTROL key operation, so you can select the desired mode more intuitively.
Preparation section 19 This unit incorporates a clock function. It is necessary to set the correct time before using the timer functions. The time can be display ed only while the pow er is in standby . 1 Select “Clock Options”. 2 Select “Adjust T ime”.

24 Basic section 1. Switching the power ON (OFF) Let’ s have sound ÷ The display shows a reference value. 2. Selecting the desired output When the power is ON, pressing the ON/STANDBY (POWER) key puts the unit in the standby mode and the STANDBY indicator lights up.
25 Basic section Muting the sound temporarily (Remote control unit only) When CD has been selected. ÷ Press again to resume the original volume. ÷ The sound muting is also canceled when the volume is controlled. Let's have sound Blinks ÷ Each press switches Exbass Mode on and off alternately.

30 Basic section A tip for the use of the tape counter The tape counter is set to “0000” when a cassette tape is loaded. In case you want to interrupt recording (playback) in the middle of the tape, the counter read- ing will be helpful as a reference for locating the same location when continuing the recording (playback) the next time.

34 Basic section 1. Load a cassette tape. 2. Select the tape transport direction. Let's record Recording onto a tape 1 Open the cassette holder. 2 Insert a tape top end first with the side you want to record on the top. 3 Close the holder. 1 Select the TAPE input by press- ing the TAPE key.
35 Basic section 4. Select the source to be recorded. (Except for T APE input) The input source component to be recorded should be displayed. ÷ If a disc has already been loaded when the CD input is selected, it starts to play automatically. In this case, press the 7 (stop) key to stop it.
36 Basic section Tips in CD recording When recording CD tracks onto a tape, if you leave the cassette deck in record-pause mode beforehand, the cassette deck recording can be started at the same time as the CD starts to be played (synchronous re- cording function).
Application section 37 Listening in the desired sequence (program playback) Special playback options for CD Any titles on the discs in the tray can be listened to in the desired sequence. (Max. 32 steps) Select the “CD” input. 1 Check that the CD player is in the stop mode.

Adjust so that the volume of the input source sounds at an equivalent level to the CD .
52 Application section Listening to music with the desired sound (NV -701 only) This unit is compatible with Dolby Digital and DTS digital audio formats. When playing back a source that is recorded in Dolby Digital, Dolby Pro Logic, or DTS, you can enjoy cinematic quality surround sound.
Application section 53 Front speaker Subwoofer Center speaker Dolby 3 Stereo Dolby 3 Stereo is available for systems that do not have surround speakers. When in the Dolby 3 Stereo mode, the surround information is redirected to the front left and right speakers.
