20. When using iFIT.com CDs and videos, an electronic “chirping” sound will alert you when the speed and/or incline of the treadmill is about to change. Always listen for the “chirp” and be prepared for speed and/or in- cline changes. In some instances, the speed and/or incline may change before the per- sonal trainer describes the change.

ASSEMBL Y Assembly requires two persons. Set the treadmill in a cleared area and remove all packing materials. Do not dispos e of the pa cking m aterial s until assembly is co mplet ed. Note: The underside of the treadmill walking belt is coated with high-performance lubricant.

9 10. Make sure that all parts are properly tightened before you use the treadmill. Note: Extra hardware may be included. Keep the included allen wrenches in a secure place. The large allen wrench is used to adjust the walking belt (see page 27). To protect the floor or carpet, place a mat under the treadmill.
10 THE PERFORMANT LUBE TM WALKING BELT Your treadmill features a walking belt coated with PERFORMANT LUBE TM , a high-performance lubricant. IMPORTANT: Never apply silicone spray or other substances to the walking belt or the walking plat- form. Such substances will deteriorate the walking belt and cause excessive wear.
1 1 FEATURES OF THE CONSOLE The treadmill console offers an im pressiv e array of featu res that help you get the m ost from your wor kouts. When the manual mode of the console is selected, the speed and incline of the treadmill can be changed with the touch of a button.
HOW TO TURN ON THE POWER Plu g in t he power cord (see page 10). Loc ate the reset/off circuit break er near the power cord. Make sure that the circuit bre aker is in the reset pos ition.
13 Note: The console can display speed and dis- tance in either miles or kilome t e r s . To find which unit of measure- ment is selected, press the Stop button while inserting the key int o t he console. An “E” for English miles o r an “M” for met- ric k ilome ters will ap pear in the displa y.
14 HOW TO USE PRESET PROGRAMS Insert the key fully into the cons ole. See HOW TO TURN ON THE POWER on page 12. Select one of the preset programs. When the key is in- serted, the manual mode will be s e l e c t e d . To select a preset pro- gram, press the Program Select button repeatedly until one of the six preset program indi- cators lights.
15 To stop the program at any time, press the Stop button. The Time/Pace display will begin to f l a s h . To res tart t he progr am, press the S tar t button or the Speed increase button.
16 HOW TO USE HEART RATE PROGRAMS Put on the optional ch est pul se sensor. You must wear t he opti onal chest pulse sensor (se e page 23) to u se a heart rate progra m. S e e the i nst ructions inc luded with the ches t pulse s e n s o r . Insert the key fully into the cons ole.
17 Press t he Start button or the Speed increas e button to start the program. A moment after the button is pressed, the tread- mill will automatically adjust to the first speed and inc line s ettings of the pro gram. Hold the hand rails and begin walking .
18 HOW TO CONNECT THE TREADMILL TO YOUR CD PLAYER, VCR, OR COMPUTER To use iFIT.com CDs , the treadm ill must be connected to y our port able CD player , portable stereo, home stere o, or comput er with C D player. See pages 18 and 19 fo r connecting instruct ions.
19 HOW TO CONNECT YOUR HOME STEREO Note: If your stereo has an unused LINE OUT jack, see instruction A below. If the LINE OUT jack is being used, see instruction B. A. Plug one end of the audio cable into the jack on the front of the treadmill near the power cord.
20 HOW TO CONNECT YOUR VCR Note: If your VCR has an unused AUDIO OUT jack, see instruction A below. If the AUDIO OUT jack is being used, see instruction B. If you have a TV with a built-in VCR, see instruction B. If your VCR is connected to your home stereo, see HOW TO CONNECT YOUR HOME STEREO on page 19.
21 If the speed or incline settings are too high or too low, you can manually override the settings at any time by pressing the Speed or Incline buttons on the console. However, when the next “chirp” is heard, the speed and/or incline will change t o the next set tings of the CD o r video program .
22 HOW TO USE PROGRAMS DIRECTLY FROM OUR WEB SITE To use programs from our Web site, the treadmill must be connected to your home computer. See HOW TO CONNECT YOUR COMPUTER on page 19. In addi- tion, you must have an internet connection and an in- ternet service provider.
23 THE I NFORMATION M ODE/DEMO MODE The console features an information mode that keeps track of total number of miles that the walking belt has moved and the total number of hours that the treadmill has been used. The information mode also allows you to switch the console from miles to kilometers.
24 HOW T O FOLD AND MOVE THE TREADMILL HOW TO FOLD THE TREADMILL FOR STORAGE Before folding the treadmill, adjust the incline to the lowest position. If this is not done, the treadmill may be permanently damaged. Next, unplug the power cord. CAUTION: You must be able to safely lift 45 pounds (20 kg) to raise, lower, or move the treadmill.
25 HOW TO LOWER THE TREADMILL FOR USE 1. Hold the treadmill frame firmly with your left hand. Pull the latch kno b to the right. Piv ot the treadm ill dow n unt il the pin on the latc h knob is below the h andgr ip. Slow ly re- leas e the latch k n o b .
26 PROBLEM: The power does not turn on SOLUTION: a. Make sure that the power cord is plugged into a surge suppressor, and that the surge suppressor is plugged into a properly grounded outlet (see page 10). Us e only a sing le-o utlet surge suppres - sor that meet s all of t he spe cificat ions d escrib ed on page 1 0.
Locate the Reed Switch (24) and the Magnet (18) on the left side of the Pulley (120). Turn the Pulley until the Magnet is aligned with the Reed Switch. Make sure that the gap between the Magnet and the Reed Switch is about 1/8”. If necessary, loosen the Screw (25) and move the Reed Switch slightly.
28 The following guidelines will help you to plan your ex- ercise program. For more detailed exercise informa- tion, obtain a reputable book or consult your physician. EXERCISE INTENSITY Whether your goal is to burn fat or to strengthen your cardiovascular system, the key to achieving the desired results is to exercise with the proper intensity.
29 SUGGESTED STRETCHES The correct form for several basic stretches is shown at the right. Move slowly as you stretch—never bounce. 1. Toe Touch Stretch Stand with your knees bent slightly and slowly bend forward from your hips. Allow your back and shoulders to relax as you reach down toward your toes as far as possible.
