Connecting the Power Cord When c onnectin g the power supply , it is importan t to follo w the step s bel ow to ens ure the p ower co rd does n ot pull free from the comp uter. 1. Connect the round end of the po wer cord t o the p ower sup ply connec tor on the r ear of the compu ter (1).

Replacin g the Compu ter Acce ss Panel 1. Align the tabs on t he pane l with the slot s on the chassis then sl ide the p anel t owards th e front o f the chassi s until it stop s (1).

Remove a ll remov able med ia, such as com pact dis cs or USB flash d rives, fr om the co mputer. 3. Turn of f the com puter pr operly t hrough th e operati ng syst em, then turn off any external devices .

Removing a Be zel Blank On so me model s, there is a bez el blank covering the exte rnal drive bay that ne eds to be remove d before ins talli ng a drive.

Removing and I nstalli ng Memory The c omputer comes with double data rate 3 sync hronous dy namic r andom ac cess m emory (DDR 3- SDRAM) small outlin e dual inline mem ory modul es (SODIMMs ). SODIMMs The memo ry sockets on the sy stem boa rd can be populat ed with up to two industr y-stand ard SODIMM s.
Populating SODIMM Sockets There are two SODIMM so ckets on the sys tem boar d, with on e socke t per ch annel. The so ckets are labeled DIMM1 and DIMM2.
3. Turn of f the com puter pr operly t hrough th e operati ng syst em, then turn off any external devices . 4. Disconne ct the po wer cor d from th e power outlet and disconn ect any exter nal devi ces.
9. To insta ll a SO DIMM, sl ide the ne w SODIMM into the socket at app roximate ly a 30° angle ( 1) then pres s the SO DIMM down (2) so th at the latches lock it in place. Figu re 2- 10 Ins talling a SODIMM NOTE: A memory modul e can be installe d in only one way.
5. If the comp uter is on a stand, r emove th e computer from the stand an d lay the computer down. 6. Remove th e compute r access panel. 7. Disconne ct the ca ble on th e rear of the opti cal drive .
Preparing the New Optical D rive Before the new o ptical dr ive ca n be use d, the rel ease lat ch must be attache d. 1. Peel the backi ng off the adhesiv e on the relea se latch. 2. Without allo wing the re lease latch to touch the optical dr ive, caref ully align the holes on the release la tch with the pins on the si de of the optica l drive.
Installing the New Optical Drive NOT E: If you ar e insta lling an optic al drive i n a ba y that di d not p reviously have a drive i n it, yo u must r emove th e acces s panel and the be zel b lank co vering t he open ing of the bay before proce eding.
Replacing the Hard Drive NOT E: The Ultra- Slim D esktop s upports only 2.5-inch Serial ATA (SA TA) inter nal h ard drive s; parall el ATA ( PATA) i nternal har d drives a re not s upported. Before you remo ve the ol d hard d rive, be sure to ba ck up th e data from the old hard drive so that you can tr ansfer the d ata to the new ha rd driv e.

Figu re 2- 16 Re moving th e Guide Sc rews 11. Lift the ha rd drive up to th e top of t he car rier (1) a nd slide the d rive out of the car rier (2).
12. Position the hard dr ive so that the top of the hard dr ive is up again st the top of the carri er (1) so that the circuit boa rd on the bottom of the hard driv e does no t come in c ontact wi t the tabs on the bottom of the ca rrier, then slide the new hard driv e into the carrier (2).
14. To place t he hard d rive car rier back in the c hassis, align t he guide scre ws with th e slots on the drive b ay, drop the car rier stra ight do wn int o the dri ve bay (1), and press the handl e on th e carrie r all the way down (2) so that the dr ive is pr operly seated and loc ked in p lace.
Instal ling and Removing a Port Cover An opti onal rea r port cov er is available f or the computer . To inst all the port co ver: 1. Thread the cable s throug h the botto m hole o n the p ort cover (1) and connect the cables to the rear po rts on th e compute r.

B Battery Replacement The batter y that comes wit h the computer pr ovides powe r to the real-ti me clock. Wh en replaci ng the battery , use a battery e quivalen t to the battery origina lly instal led in the com puter. The computer comes with a 3- volt li thium coin ce ll bat tery.
NOTE: On so me compu ter model s, it may be neces sary to remove an inter nal comp onent t o gain access to the batt ery. 8. Depending on the type of b attery h older on the system board, c omplete the follow ing instr uctions to replace the batter y.
